Concerned in Ohio, I still want to know how McCain has more money than someone who took in 3/4 billion dollars and still asking for donations?

Awww… sorry he’s dissing the press. But I’m certain he’ll honor any campaign promises that don’t interfere with whatever ideals he fancies. Thanks for getting him elected, though – way to press early on and let America know what values the guy actually represents. Maybe you can get us in another quagmire in Iraq with all of that deep investigative PC journalism.

Jake, thanks for at least asking questions more interesting than “how will you handle all the expectations that you are the messiah?”
Good luck getting an answer…

Concerned in OH: We are concerned in Wyoming too but when you are the object of a cult following nothing you say will dissuade your fanatic following. I have always been suspicious of anyone who depicts himself or allows himself to be depicted as a messiah. Jim Jones, Marshall Applewaite,
David Koresh and Charles Manson come to mind.

Seriously, where’s the questions being yelled at McCain?
It’s not like any of the candidates are holding press conferences right now, it seems a bit odd to single one candidate out for it at this point.
And over the course of the various campaigning, some have been worse than others. Palin’s never had a single formal news conference or appeared on the Sunday news shows, has she?

In Obama’s own words – he will bankrupt the American coal industry !!!!!
It’s from an interview Obama gave to the San Francisco Chronicle in which he speaks of his approach to global warming and cap-and-trade systems. It’s an approach I’m not sure the bitter gun clingers of Pennsylvania would appreciate

Bev: “Obama threw reputably newspapers off his airplane to make room for Ebony & Jet magazines.”
This is a lie. Ebony and Jet have been on the plane for a while. “Reputable newspapers” were thrown off to make room for other “reputable newspapers,” the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times.

FoxNews and the Wall Street Journal have safe seats. I don’t think he’s in any danger of getting tossed by offending the campaign (as John McCain has done).

Audio: Obama Tells SF Chronicle He Will Bankrupt Coal Industry. SF Chronicle never mentioned this in their newspaper in their recap of the interview.
Everybody in PA/Ohio and all the other major coal states needs to hear this! Anybody living in coal producing states, get the below out to anybody who has not voted! Just another Obama lie uncovered!

Concerned in OH:
I see misintrepreting a comment Obama made about coal fired power plants is today’s Republican talking point. Since you guys are astroturfing all the threads, yes I’m cutting and pasting my reply (I wrote originally a little while ago in a different thread).
Do you honestly interpret this comment, in regards to a carbon cap and trade policy (that McCain also supports):
“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted…if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.”
As being the same as saying: “he would bankrupt the coal industry.”
Really? You see those two are the exact same thing? I have been trying hard to believe Republican voters were simply not informed, but it is getting difficult to not start to believe they honestly lack the ability to analyze data and think for themselves. McCain agrees with Obama that carbon dioxide emissions must be controlled, but I guess Obama is condemned because he is speaking about the specific realities and policy implications of what that means.
McCain, as is his tendency this election, simply refuses to give any sort of policy details – certainly not to the depths of the hundreds of pages of white papers on Obama’s site. And the Republican base thinks Obama is an “empty suit”?

Jake, you seem to be the only one willing to equally confront both sides and play devil’s advocate, as it should be for all in the press, right or left leaning. Keep up the good work, the rest can take a cue from your example.

You know, I’ve been around several decades now, and the two important political lessons I’ve learned during those years regarding the division of the two major political parties are:
1) Liberal vs. conservative – in observing the behaviors between the two philosophies, “liberal” represents tolerance and acceptance, and “conservative” represents intolerance and narrow-mindedness. My wise old grandma, rest her soul, raised me to be a compassionate, tolerant person. I wear the label “LIBERAL” like a badge of honor. And I personally believe GOD is a Liberal also. The Creator is much more accepting than so many of his “flock”.
2) Democrats represent ALL of the Americans, and Republicans represent Corporate America. They want to make sure the money stays in their pockets. Trickle down economics?? Give me a break! Is that why almost all of our goods made by American Corporations are made outside of our country? Who’s profiting from that? Who’s benefiting from that? The disproportionate distribution of wealth in this country is a blatant crime, and Republican Americans are satisfied to risk four more years of the daily screw job???
Sorry, but I can’t wait for President Obama to take office and turn this country around and give it back to the people, not the corporations. I truly believe that he will bring this Nation together if its citizens are willing to work together as one. John Lennon said it so well 30-some years ago:
“Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one”
Long live liberal tolerance and acceptance. Peace y’all!

Ah, Jake, why didn’t you start doing this weeks ago? I’m not sure press attempts to show the real Obama at this late date will have time to sink in for folks. How annoying is this guy? Pretty darn annoying. He dodges and dissembles and runs out the clock. And the press, by and large, lets him get away with it. He continues to claim that McCain is all negativity and attacks on him, when I can see from the speeches I witness for myself on television today that McCain is talking, as he has all along, about his own plans, his own credentials, and his own solutions to our problems. Yes, he also points out Obama’s weaknesses– that’s what a campaign is about. Obama makes claims about the McCain proposals as well, as he should. Yet we still read post after post decrying the McCain negativity and praising Obama’s alleged higher plane. Poppycock.
Oh, and “Concerned in Ohio,” I’m your biggest fan. Keep up the good work.

jhw539, yes, I do consider Obama an empty suit. And there is no other way to spin Obama’s statements on “bankrupting” anyone foolish enough to build a coal plant but as direct contradictions to his statements in coal-producing states like Pennsylvania that he is all for clean coal. That’s not what he says in his interview with a California newspaper. That does not surprise me at all. I just wish it had been reported on responsibly all along so people could make up their minds based on his statements, in all their contradictory glory, rather than on their perceptions of his charisma.

PaizPlease:
Imagine no possessions? You can’t honestly believe that Obama envisions such a policy. If he does, well, he is more of a leftist than we ever knew.
Hopefully he won’t enforce the “live as one” mandate encouraged by the lovely, yet subtly terrifying “Imagine.”

maybe you can help America understand better Obama Vows To Create ‘Civilian National Security Force’… BEFORE THIS ELECTION IS OVER

PazPlez, I’ve been around more than a few election cycles myself and the lessons I have learned are different from those you absorbed. For one thing, I think liberal and conservative are overused terms. But, since they are in common use and are associated with different political parties, what can I do? I see conservatives as less anxious to change for the sake of change and more interested in small government, simple old-fashion values, and a forward-leaning foreign policy (of course, that last one is a more recent development, which I consider a post 9/11 attitude). They prioritize national security, a strong military, reduced government involvement in the economy, and low taxes. I see liberals as less interested in maintaining the status quo. They are more interested in government social programs, progressive values, and a collaborative foreign policy. They want to increase government involvement in the economy and prefer higher taxes and reduced military spending in order to finance expanded government social programs. I do not see either position as inherently superior.
I consider myself a moderate Republican and I also consider myself tolerant and compassionate. I would never presume to say that God holds any particular political view, including my own. Then again, I thought those “Jesus was a community organizer, Pilate was a governor” t-shirts not only anachronistic but also sophomoric. Is it really tolerant to declare, “God is on my side”?
So you were a Lennon fan? I always preferred McCartney, myself. A more pragmatic guy, better businessman, but still quite the musician. Lennon always seemed lost in the clouds and not terribly tied to reality.

Congratulations on coming up with a question that can only do two things.
1. Get a bland and general non-offensive response.
2. Make the candidate say something stupid.
Bravo. Journalistic genius. Next time: boxers or briefs?
