Biden: U.S. Economy in Danger of ‘Absolutely Tanking’

Would someone please put a muzzle on our new VP Biden? He just has a habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Yes, I am a Republican and did not vote for Senator Obama, but the new President Elect is attempting to be “positive” and then you have his running mate doing just the opposite.

What a statement for the next VP of this country to make. Is he trying to make sure the economy tanks? What an idiot.

Joe Biden isn’t breaking any news. President Elect Obama’s response to this crisis will be a major factor defining his time in office. I’m just glad an intellectual will be at the helm soon.

Why do you think Bush and company are willing to spend $700 billion to save finance institutions and the auto industry, because the US economy is in danger of “tanking”. Do you really think neo-cons would be undertaking the drastic actions they are if the situation wasn’t worse than they’ve been telling us? Biden is simply speaking the truth, plain and simple, unvarnished truth.

We don’t think Biden tells the truth enough! We feel sure that things are a lot worse than ‘they’ are telling us and Joe is not telling it close enough to the truth! How long are we fooling ourselves (they/them) about bailing ourselves out of all of these messes? There is no such thing as ‘absolutely tanking”…we are either tanked or not tanked already! And obviously, we are ‘tanked’. Joe Biden knows more about this country and other countries than the young Polo model wanna-be can begin to know. Plagiarist-Joe’s brain aneurysm must be working overtime, again. He’s probably just trying to set-up the massive tax increases the d-crats have planned, since, as he said, “RAISING TAXES IS PATRIOTIC”.
But there are some very disturbing issues associated with the current, horribly wrong course of Washington in address the economy.
In reality, the Washington actions have set up the economy for continuing disastrous results for a long, long time. Bailout Bernanke and the feckless Fed now have accumulated over $2.2 TRILLION in debts to bailout everybody but my grandmother (her check is, apparently, in the mail) – but they REFUSE to say where the money went. (Bloomberg and other organizations have filed FOIA requests for this info- all have been turned down.)
The $700 Billion TARP has been a total failure – the money has gone principally to Wall Street pals of Paulson (who couldn’t have seen that coming?) And the marxist drug-addict plans to waste another TRILLION on “public works” – most likely monuments to himself on every street corner. And, if you can’t figure out who will actually pay for all this, your head must also be up bailout fantasy land.
What is the “bailout exit strategy”?

When President Clinton left Office in 2000, our country is in surplus. Today, out economy will become worse than we think and imagine. The wrongdoers seem to hesterically trying to solve the economy debacle; BUT DID ANYONE QUESTION WHERE DO ALL THOSE MONEY GO? American people have the right to know and should follow the money trails to find out the truth and lies of the century. This is not only a criminal case of humanity, but also a treason to our beloved country.

Whats wrong with Biden? First he expects some serious disaster in 6 months of Obama taking office and now he is pessimistic about the economy. If the government cuts all spending by 50% that would include the VP’s salary and salaries of all in congress and US government and use that to pay the deficit off and to give tax breaks and credit vouchers to the middle class and to all the new businesses, I don’t think the economy will tank. The problem right now is big government spending, rewarding mismanaged companies with bail outs, the made off with billions having free reign, poor regulation of the monies being spent and the loss of confidence in Washington, Sacramento, Springfield, IL and New York’s wall street.

I am afraid this country has become a Dr. Phil nation. Make money at any cost even if it degrades and destroys the reputation or semblance of self-esteem or pride of any kind. This systemic immoral conduct can be seen everywhere. Whether it’s Blago, our economy, or Iraq, or…..

Biden is a fool and a disgrace to our country. He is saying this so he will look like a hero when everything turns positive. They are sitting around praying that we ahve zero positive announcements until they get in and save us all.

Here’s an idea, instead of creating new jobs, why don’t we stop issuing HB1 visas and retrain Americans to do the jobs that thousands of foreign workers do every year in this country. We could also continue cracking down on employers who hire illegal workers and crack down on the networks that supply illegal workers with stolen social security numbers (which makes it possible for them to get a job). There’s lots we can do without having to create new jobs.

What Kind of Plagiarist Is Joe Biden?
The unusually creepy kind.

Joe Biden’s return as a vice-presidential candidate signals forgiveness—at least from Barack Obama—for having plagiarized a leading British politician during Biden’s campaign for the Democratic Party’s 1988 presidential nomination.
The Biden episode merits revisiting because as acts of plagiarism go, it was spectacular, and because it points to other dicey chapters in his life. To know Biden in full, you must appreciate his parts.
Biden’s puttering campaign for president effectively died on Sept. 13, 1987, when the New York Times’ Maureen Dowd reported that he had pinched major elements of a recent and celebrated speech by Labor Party leader Neil Kinnock. That speech, included in this May 1987 Labor Party broadcast, begins at the 7:23 mark.
But Biden didn’t merely borrow words and phrasings from Kinnock, which is a time-honored practice of candidates and their speechwriters and is almost never regarded as plagiarism. He became Kinnock, as David Greenberg writes today, claiming things about himself and his family that were untrue and that he knew to be untrue.
In his closing remarks at an Aug. 23, 1987, debate at the Iowa State Fair*, Biden said:
I started thinking as I was coming over here, why is it that Joe Biden is the first in his family ever to go to a university?
Biden then gestured to his wife and continued:
Why is it that my wife who is sitting out there in the audience is the first in her family to ever go to college? Is it because our fathers and mothers were not bright? Is it because I’m the first Biden in a thousand generations to get a college and a graduate degree that I was smarter than the rest?
Kinnock had said:
Why am I the first Kinnock in a thousand generations to be able to get to university?
Pointing to his wife, Kinnock said:
Why is Glenys the first woman in her family in a thousand generations to be able to get to university? Was it because all our predecessors were thick?
And so on and so on.
Biden quit the campaign before the month was over, erecting the strangest defense as he went out. Most plagiarists claim victimhood: The purloined material accidentally slipped into their notes or personal and professional pressure distracted them. But Biden knew from the beginning that the material and anecdotes were not his.
In a Sept. 23, 1987, MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour appearance, Biden adviser John Marttila defended his candidate by stating that Biden “must have spoken about Kinnock in the past month and a half—I don’t know, 25, 30 times. And he failed to attribute it on two or three occasions. Most regrettably, it was that Iowa television.”
Reporters confirmed that Biden had repeatedly cited Kinnock as the source before abducting the Kinnock persona at the state fair. That didn’t make the abduction any less egregious, though. Or any less weird. For instance, Biden wasn’t the first in his family to attend college, as he claimed, conceding to E.J. Dionne Jr. in the Sept. 18, 1987, Times that ”there are Finnegans, my mother’s family, that went to college.”
Biden had similarly echoed Kinnock by saying that his “ancestors … worked the coal mines of Northeast Pennsylvania and would come up after 12 hours and play football for four hours.” He could produce no such ancestors upon request. The Times’ Dowd also found Biden lifting Kinnock’s “gestures and lyrical Welsh syntax intact,” proof of his intimacy with the source material.
The only practical explanation for Biden’s plagiarism is he guessed that being Kinnock on the stump would be more compelling for his audience than merely citing him. And he was probably right. Anecdotes about how a British politician made a success of himself thanks to Labor Party policies would hardly encourage an American voter to pull the lever for Joe Biden. Biden plagiarized because, like most plagiarists, he was unsatisfied with his own, honest material and decided that the payoff was worth the risk.
Another time-honored defense of plagiarists is that the incident was a one-off. But in Biden’s case, we know that’s not true. As E.J. Dionne Jr. reported in the previously mentioned Times article, he “plagiarized a law review article for a paper he wrote in his first year at law school” at the Syracuse University College of Law. According to a Dec. 1, 1965, report by the law school, five pages of Biden’s 15-page paper were copied without quotation or attribution.
Biden’s defense? He told Dionne—and his professors at Syracuse at the time—that he misunderstood citation and footnoting rules. The Dionne piece is especially rich with other Bidenisms. The candidate accuses other presidential campaigns of digging up the Syracuse law school story, but he does not specify which campaigns engineered this smear.
If you give Biden the benefit of the doubt—and I don’t—you’d expect that such a calamitous “mistake” from his youth would have seared into his mind the importance of keeping his mitts off of other people’s words. That it didn’t speaks terabytes about his character.
We all lie to ourselves about who we are. In my head, I replaced Al Kaline in right field, Jonas Salk in the laboratory, and Keith Richards on guitar. But most of us over the age of 12 keep an editor in our minds to prevent us from speaking those lies. If Biden lies with fluidity about the fundamentals of his life, other discoveries must await. But all will not be lost if the Obama-Biden ticket is victorious: Every administration needs a few good liars.

Obama is out there trying to get things rolling before he is even in office. I feel this man is going to do alot for the common man and I am very glad he is in office. So far the dude looks like Superman.

Joe Biden and the Lies About his Dead Wife
The Delaware News-Journal has published a story about the lies of one of the Vice Presidential candidates in this election season, and it isn’t Governor Sarah Palin. No, these lies are spilling forth from that toxic waste dump known as Joe “the bigot” Biden. These lies are particularly disgusting because this sow’s ass is using the death of his wife and daughter to advance his political career. The article, 1972 Crash Still Haunts Driver’s Family, begins this way:
Since his vice presidential nomination, Joe Biden’s 2007 statement that a “guy who allegedly … drank his lunch” and drove the truck that struck and killed his first wife and daughter has gained national media traction.
Alcohol didn’t play a role in the 1972 crash, investigators found. But as recently as last week, the syndicated TV show Inside Edition aired a clip from 2001 of Biden describing the accident to an audience at the University of Delaware and saying the truck driver “stopped to drink instead of drive.”
The senator’s statements don’t jibe with news and law enforcement reports from the time, which cleared driver Curtis C. Dunn, who died in 1999, of wrongdoing.
What an opportunistic pig! Not only is he lying about the circumstances that led to the end of the lives of his wife and daughter, he is trashing the good name of the poor driver, whose family is still alive and has to hear his name being maligned:
“To see it coming from [Biden's] mouth, I just burst into tears,” Dunn’s daughter, Glasgow resident Pamela Hamill, 44, said Wednesday. “My dad was always there for us. Now we feel like we should be there for him because he’s not here to defend himself.”
Biden spokesman David Wade said Wednesday that the senator “fully accepts the Dunn family’s word that these rumors were false.”
It’s unclear who first suggested alcohol was a factor in the crash, but since Barack Obama tapped Biden to be his running mate on Aug. 23, The New York Times, National Public Radio and The Economist have run stories that characterized Dunn as a drunken driver.
Such a pig! What does his spokesman mean by they fully accept that family’s word? Biden, that bigot, knows what really happened. He thought, “I’m a big time United States senator. Who’s going to stop me if I exaggerate a bit here and there?” The article further reads:
Even before Obama asked Biden to join his campaign, political observers said the senator’s gaffes could be a liability in a contest where every word will be scrutinized. Biden’s first presidential campaign 20 years ago was undone by charges he plagiarized parts of a speech by British Labor Party leader Neil Kinnock.
Asked about Biden’s accounts of the accident, Wade warned against writing anything that would “infer, paraphrase, or be anything less than precise on such a personal and tragic subject.”
After the 1972 accident, Biden never sought any records from the time of the crash, nor did he seek any further investigation, Wade said.
Even if Biden had “never sought any records from the time of the crash”, unless officers or hell, somebody, told him that the crash was caused by a drunken driver he should have never started to tell the story in such a way in the first place. Bottom line? He intended to fudge the story for his own benefit and for that, he is a scumbag

With economy in shambles, Congress gets a raise

A crumbling economy, more than 2 million constituents who have lost their jobs this year, and congressional demands of CEOs to work for free did not convince lawmakers to freeze their own pay.
Instead, they will get a $4,700 pay increase, amounting to an additional $2.5 million that taxpayers will spend on congressional salaries, and watchdog groups are not happy about it.
“As lawmakers make a big show of forcing auto executives to accept just $1 a year in salary, they are quietly raiding the vault for their own personal gain,” said Daniel O’Connell, chairman of The Senior Citizens League (TSCL), a non-partisan group. “This money would be much better spent helping the millions of seniors who are living below the poverty line and struggling to keep their heat on this winter.”
However, at 2.8 percent, the automatic raise that lawmakers receive is only half as large as the 2009 cost of living adjustment of Social Security recipients.
Still, Steve Ellis, vice president of the budget watchdog Taxpayers for Common Sense, said Congress should have taken the rare step of freezing its pay, as lawmakers did in 2000.
“Look at the way the economy is and how most people aren’t counting on a holiday bonus or a pay raise — they’re just happy to have gainful employment,” said Ellis. “But you have the lawmakers who are set up and ready to get their next installment of a pay raise and go happily along their way.”
Member raises are often characterized as examples of wasteful spending, especially when many constituents and businesses in members’ districts are in financial despair.
Rep. Harry Mitchell, a first-term Democrat from Arizona, sponsored legislation earlier this year that would have prevented the automatic pay adjustments from kicking in for members next year. But the bill, which attracted 34 cosponsors, failed to make it out of committee.
“They don’t even go through the front door. They have it set up so that it’s wired so that you actually have to undo the pay raise rather than vote for a pay raise,” Ellis said.
Freezing congressional salaries is hardly a new idea on Capitol Hill.
Lawmakers have floated similar proposals in every year dating back to 1995, and long before that. Though the concept of forgoing a raise has attracted some support from more senior members, it is most popular with freshman lawmakers, who are often most vulnerable.
In 2006, after the Republican-led Senate rejected an increase to the minimum wage, Democrats, who had just come to power in the House with a slew of freshmen, vowed to block their own pay raise until the wage increase was passed. The minimum wage was eventually increased and lawmakers received their automatic pay hike.
In the beginning days of 1789, Congress was paid only $6 a day, which would be about $75 daily by modern standards. But by 1965 members were receiving $30,000 a year, which is the modern equivalent of about $195,000.
Currently the average lawmaker makes $169,300 a year, with leadership making slightly more. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) makes $217,400, while the minority and majority leaders in the House and Senate make $188,100.
Ellis said that while freezing the pay increase would be a step in the right direction, it would be better to have it set up so that members would have to take action, and vote, for a pay raise and deal with the consequences, rather than get one automatically.
“It is probably never going to be politically popular to raise Congress’s salary,” he said. “I don’t think you’re going to find taxpayers saying, ‘Yeah I think I should pay my congressman more’.”

It’s at times like this that all I can say is I voted for Sarah Palin. Those of you who voted for Obama/Biden got what you wanted, likely what you deserve, but you harmed everyone in doing so, not just yourselves. So what have you done to us? Just ask Biden. I’m sure he’ll have a unique and interesting answer.

Wealth, which most politicians and friends possess, is now out of your reach. The plan is to eliminate the lower class by way of lowering the middle class to its same ranks and then redefining it. It’s the new democratic way. Haven’t you noticed that everytime there is something inheritly wrong with something, whether it be crimes or patriotism, the Dems don’t fix it? They instead redefine it so that it is no longer considered wrong. This eliminates their guilt. It is one big continuous lie they tell you, so that you will submit and weaken your position. While all the time, they teach and tell their own children otherwise. It doesn’t matter ~ it’s too late anyway. You have no options.

Lenders made loans they should not have, Credit-rating agencies gave AAA ratings to nasty mortgages and then sold them, Clinton and a Republican dominated congress in 1999 repealed the depression era Glass-Steagall Act, which deregulated the markets, making all kinds of chicanery possible, Democrats Dodd and Frank pushed for bad home loans, Greenspan didn’t bother to advocate greater regulation of derivatives, SEC regulators didn’t regulate…. my guess is some at the top knew the house of cards was collapsing, and decided to fatten up by hook or crook to insulate themselves doing the upcoming lean times they knew were coming and didn’t bother to inform the rest of us.

For several months I have been advocating a massive DEBT restructuring that would include the entire world. I simplified how to do this in three steps. First just make a list to include the debtor, debt-holder and a bank to administer it. The second step would be to just create enough FIAT money to pay all the debt and third authorizing the Central Banks of the entire world to make an accounting adjustment crediting the debtor and paying the debt-holder.

If done worldwide the currency values among the various currencies would adjust too different
values for inflation, I suspect America has the largest total debt of any country in the world so the dollar might weaken in value the most. If the US Dollar does devalue then we would be much more able to compete with the rest of the world.
To restate what I am REALLY ADVOCATING I am advocating the Federal Reserve be told to create NEW FIAT MONEY in an amount equal to ALL debt now held in America and using it to zero out ALL the debt. If this occurred, the US dollar would be revalued downward closer to the real value of our labor etc. compared with the rest of the world. If this was done all the SO-CALLED BAILOUTS going on would be unnecessary because no debt would exist.

I know it’s scary when people are losing their jobs, but the unemployment rate right now is only 6.7 percent – that’s still lower then it was in 1993 (6.9) or 1992 (7.5) or 1982 (9.2). For several years, until recently, we were blessed with low unemployment, and the job market will rebound again if politicians stop telling us the sky is falling. For the job market to rebound we need to strengthen business – not scare people.

Maybe people should think about this, the bailout is a total scam! Ask yourselves why is it a scam and why was it started.

The economy is based on the cash flow of the consumer. If the consumer has no cash flow, they will not be able to spend. The easy access to credit caused consumers to fall into debt. Their income is used to repay this debt leaving little left for spending. The solution is massive consolidation loans. All mortgages refinanced for 30 years fixed at 4 percent. Credit card debt and personal loans consolidated into a single loan with an interest rate about 5 percent. This will relieve the financial burden on the consumer. Financial institutions, the government, or both, need to do this. Also, any consumer acquiring such a loan will need to be prevented from obtaining any new credit for a period of five years, allowing for them to become financially stable. Such a program will allow consumers to start spending again, but without the use of credit. Think about it.

This is simple: To have a growing economy that is based on consumption mainly; you need citizens to have the following:
DISPENSIBLE CASH FLOW INCOME
Without this people are just stuck paying so much on mortgages and credit cards that won’t be paid off any time soon. A stimulus package doesen’t even make a dent on the long-term debt that hinders people from not having this disposable income needed. So in short, nothing is going to fix this problem until the following is done:
- People refinance homes at 4.5% even if the home is upside down ; this means that banks will need to do short-sales to the same owner of an appraised price if the loan is upside down to refinance.
- People need to start paying off credit cards. This means no or little christmas shopping, no new car, no frivilous spending at the grocery store
It will take 2-3 years for most Americans to pay off their credit card debt and start saving again and start having possibly 2-5% of their income being disposable (movies, products, new car, etc)

Since Obama seems to be following the F.D.R. modle of leadership, here are some things you can expect to see in the near future: an economic depression, higher taxes, hyper- inflation, a military draft (men and women), and finally another world war to end the depression. Can someone explain to me how money taken in the form of taxes on productivity will now be parceled out in the form of a “stimulus” (giving back what was taken) to create jobs? How about solar arrays and wind farms in pristine desert areas? Tell Robert Redford that while he’s protesting oil drilling in Utah, there’s thousands of times more acres in other pristine areas that will desecrated to produce unreliable and expensive power. Joe Biden’s stupid remarks are just one of many illustrations of why Congress’ approval ratings are much lower than President Bush’s. And we’re stuck with these clowns after President Bush is gone.

To all the people thinking Biden made a mistake here – he didn’t. They’re setting expectations. When they make bold moves and major changes, they don’t want anyone saying “things aren’t so bad that we need that.” They want to set the expectation that things still are that bad, so they can drum up the political capital they need to make the changes they wayt.

Interesting, isn’t it, how Obama is now going to give us back billions of dollars (that belong to us anyway) after “promising” to tax big business and wealthy Americans in order to make everything alright. I see Nick is as stupid as most democrats in thinking we had a surplus when Clinton left office. When Clinton left office we were in a recession. We had a 250 billion dollar deficit.There is not much surplus in a recession. One note. The last time the budget was balanced was when Richard Nixon was president.

Why isn’t the administration lying to us and telling us everything is just fine and we only need to go shopping? Why are we being told bad things? Aren’t the foundations of the economy strong? Why are we being asked to think and help out? Shouldn’t we just be taken care of?

This is painful, but when you live within your means, have savings, things are stable. The same goes for the economy, if people buy goods and pay for them, there can be no borrowing crisis. This is just common sense. That is why Obama’s plan to create huge new debt is just nutty. He is doing nothing but kicking the can down the street. Everybody needs to stop borrowing money, or using credit cards. We need to stop governments at al level from spending beyond their means. We must stop Obama from borrowing yet more money.

First of all, where that first stimulus package went in the finance sector, no one knows for sure (except for those that got it)- and it’s being kept confidential “for our own good”. Right! No – but there’s a hell of a list of what they’ve done wrong. Bush and the Republicans had control of the government from 2001-2006, yet some yayhoos ask stupid questions like, “What has our Liberal house and senate done during the last two years to improve our economy.”
What the Republicans did to our economy is like being attacked at Pearl Harbor and it being an inside job – the Republicans and George W. Bush have done more to bring America to her knees than all her enemies, including Osama bin Laden.
Democratic leaders are good leaders – but they are not miracle workers and it’s going to take time and more of a majority than 2 seats in the Senate – good news is it looks like Franken’s going to make it 59. George W. Bush and the Republicans make Jimmy Carter seem competent. Carter should send Bush a Hallmark card every week for making him the SECOND worst president in American history.

A good number of posters are defending Biden’s goofiness by saying, “He’s just telling the truth!” That may be. However, just because something is true doesn’t mean it’s a terrific idea for a leader of the country to be spouting it to the media.
Do you really believe that Bambi and his boys were pleased when they first heard this statement? They’re going to have to figure out where to lock him up or how to shut him up. How long before he goes out and says somebody is going to try to assassinate Bambi? That’s probably true, too. At least JFK (whom the Bots love to compare Bambi to) had the sense to pick a REAL American politician in LBJ. He was a fool in a lot of ways, but running his mouth off about national issues (security and economic so far in Biden’s case) wasn’t an issue with LBJ. I couldn’t stand LBJ politically, but I had no trouble respecting him and trusting him as my president. There are no American Dems any more apparently. (Hey. Don’t yell at me. Tanking? It’s already tanked. It tanked in 1993 when Congress and the President passed legislation requiring mortgage companies to make loans to people who couldn’t repay them. As for the person who said we had a surplus when Clinton left office … the national debt was $5 trillion at the end of 2000. He only balanced the budget after the Republican Congress passed the balanced budget amendment in 1995.

What’s the fuss about? He is saying only what most of us know anyway. We are a step ahead of another “Great Depression.” Both parties bought and promoted the global economy and promoted trade with China as something that would open Chinese markets to American business and industry. Europe bought it too. We are living with the results. We handed over our economy to Asia. The future is not with the West.

The democrates and the Black Caucus pushed the economy into this situation by forcing the banks and other lenders into making mortgage money available to people that had little chance of ever being able to repay their debts. Want to put the finger on the economic slowdown try Barney Frank and the other liberal democrates who were taking money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Biden is a loser before being sworn in as VP.

1) Wall street will collapse so there is no way to value companies, their work and products.

3) The insurance industry will collapse: there won’t be a way to protect your self against risk.
If this happens the economy will collapse.

Both Biden and Obama seem to be missing the idea that the present crisis may indeed be something new, a real game-changer marking the collapse of the current fractional reserve banking system.
A number of observers note that our present money and banking system is ultimately unsustainable, because it requires ever-rising total debt. They say that fractional reserve banking is in fact a 300-hundred year old Ponzi scheme, with bankers, like licensed counterfeiters, creating money (as debt) at the expense of almost everyone else.
They claim that the current financial crisis marks nothing less than the inevitable final collapse of fractional reserve banking, which is at last being crushed under the impossible levels of debt we have had to incur to keep it going till now.
They add that no amount of increased regulation or debt-based “economic stimulus” can save our present money and banking system. Instead, a disarmingly simple solution is available: claw back money-creation power from private banks to the US Treasury where the Constitution says it belongs; print fiat money to retire the national debt, and at the same time increase required banking reserves from 10% to 100%.
After one or two years, no national debt, no inflation, a sustainable banking system, and an end to the credit crunch now destroying the economy.
It’s time for this proposal to be discussed. How about a HuffPo contribution from Stephen Zarlenga or Ellen Brown?

As someone that did not support Obama, I am supposed to be a just a dumb redneck. BUT, I have a feeling that Democrats planned to help a down slide in the economy by not voting for the changes to FannieMae and FreddieMac. I trust that everyone recognizes that an economic down turn just before an election is good for the party that does not have the White House, and wants it back. This time however the down slide turned into a landslide, and got completely out of control. After all Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid were at the helm, and with their incompetence things just went too far.
For you Bush bashers that can not wait to say how bad things have been for 8 years… Please rip up that DNC script! For most of those 8 years we had record unemployment, record high stock markets, we were not attacked at home after 9/11/01, and the economy grew! Those are facts, not a DNC or RNC script line. That is not to say that both parties do not share the blame. But it was not simply Bush’s fault that things went south in 2007-08.
As a reward for their incompetence Congress has voted itself a healthy raise this past week. Let me ask anyone out there that works for a living… if you had an approval rating of less than 10%, for more tha a year, would you be getting a raise, or would you have been fired??!! Especially, when there was a severe financial crisis, and a VP is telling everyone that things were about to tank!

Perhaps a fix to the situation could be derived from the tax-code. As a homeowner, I can deduct the interest expense of my mortgage, which helps make the high fees palatable. Suppose that Congress offered residential “mortgage backed” securities, and “mortgagees” a Tax Free status similar to Municipal Bonds. Then the holders could afford to lower the interest rates (drastically) to provide the same or similar after-tax return, and immediate relief to the borrowers. This program could almost be revenue neutral, homeowners would have less interest to deduct (i.e. pay more taxes). Or, if not neutral and it costs the government tax revenues, it would cost much less than an outright bailout and the lost tax revenues on the write-offs of the capital. This could be an “emergency program” and slated to taper off and finally end over the course of a decade, providing relief now, stability for the future, and perhaps a new way to encourage home-ownership for our children. This is most simplistic, but perhaps within this concept is an actionable direction.
Try this, begin 1/1/09 all interest income would have a tax free status, including secured loans from banks and credit cards…. now everyone, including non-homeowners would get both relief and encouragement to move forward. Homeowners that have small or “mature” mortgages would also get the benefits. Imagine if the interest tally were cut by 30%. the economy would get back on track. Imagine if SAVINGS interest was no longer taxed, …..now people would be wise to put money into savings (i.e. increasing liquidity at the banks). It seems to me that the tax drain on interest earned is the cruelest tax of all and is currently causing much of the misery. There is certainly precedence for this kind of tax-code manipulation of economic behaviors, remember the 10% Tax Credits for new energy systems/investments? or the accelerated depreciation of apartments to spur housing growth? There is no magic to the prescription, and in proper doses will cure this disease. Thank you for your attention, and may God Bless America.

Interesting about Joe. Seems Clinton ran on the “middle class” tax cut then we all got a big tax increase after he “say the numbers”. Although the economic experts are unsure of the solution, may I present a thought that may be helpful. The key to a solution relates to the small business community that effects 70 million people. The main concern among experts is the upcoming wave of foreclosures due to ALT-A and TOXIC Mortgages that are expected to begin in 2009 and extend through 2012.
The 2nd Wave of Foreclosures has finally made it to the mainstream Media. CBS’s 60 Minutes had a segment on 12/14/08, but they missed a very important point. Here is a post which may have merit for your blog…….
I would like to bring a very important bit of information to your attention that relates to this economic crisis that was overlooked until now.
On Sunday, 12/14/08, CBS 60 Minutes aired a segment “The Mortgage Meltdown”.
Scott Pelley’s piece on the 2nd Wave of Foreclosures overlooked a critical fact.
The segment missed the fact that this next wave of Foreclosures in 2009 Will Take Self-Employed and Smaller Businesses who have these TOXIC mortgages. In fact, ALT-A, Option ARMS, Interest-Only, the TOXIC Mortgages that are considered the “Troubled” assets in TARP were specifically marketed to the self-employed who fell prey to them.
The upcoming defaults on these risky “Toxic Mortgages” will result in an increase in foreclosures. But worse, once these small businesses fail, the resulting loss of jobs will cause millions to add to the ranks of the unemployed. Note that self-employed business owners (16.2 million according to the SBA) employ between 1-10 employees.
An NASE survey at http://www.nase.org , was the first to provide compelling evidence of small business involvement in the upcoming toxic mortgage crisis. The survey was created by Prof. Samuel D. Bornstein and Jung I. Song, CPA of BornsteinSong Consultants in Oakhurst,NJ,and was conducted by the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) which issued a Press Release on November 21, 2008.
According to this survey, it is estimated that 3,709,800 small business owners hold Alt-A and other toxic mortgages, and 1,279,800 are already delinquent as they have missed one to three or more monthly mortgage payments at mid-November, before the expected Resets that are scheduled to begin in 4th Quarter 2008 through 2012.
These small business owners will be at-risk of payment shock and default as their monthly mortgage payments skyrocket. Small business owners were especially targeted for these Alt-A loans which required little or no documentation of income which appealed to many small business owners who previously were unable to qualify.
The resulting defaults will be the cause of the upcoming second tsunami wave of foreclosures that will dwarf the subprime crisis and will take many homeowners, small business owners, and their employees at this critical time when our economy can ill afford it.

Perhaps you have lost your memory of those Thursday afternoon Treasury Bond sales that were occurring in regular fashion up until ther point that George Bush took office in January of 2000.
For those of us who are regular followers of the stock exchanges, my well remember that such a change in the U.S. monetary policy at the time would have the direct effect of drying up or shrinking capital. January of 2000, was not a good time to be setting such a course.

Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work,they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don’t have to pass a urine test.
Shouldn’t one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping some-one sitting on their ass, doing drugs, while I work.
Can you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Yeah- Biden needs to stay out of Obama’s way – so Obama can spread the wealth and get us all out of this mess. The rich corporations and the rich people all have lots of extra money that we all really need right now. It isn’t that big of a problem if the rich will have to lay off workers because their money for payrolls is a little less. Rich people can stop buying so many things because they will finally have to pay more than half of their money to the rest of us, which might make the rich companies have to lay off more workers because they sell less of their products. But they would sell more of them anyway because Obama is going to use 600 or 700 BILLION dollars to buy stuff from everyone. Its not that big of a deal if nobody will want to go to school for lots of years after high school to be a doctor or some other really smart professional because they would just end up having to spread their wealth to the rest of us. They don’t need to be so greedy anyway. I’ve been pretty healthy, and I would rather have wealth spread to me than to have a really good heart doctor around when my heart fails–there’s probably some really good nurses that could work on it–and I can eat a lot of good bacon from the good wealth that gets spread. In the future, it will be better for us anyway if we can all just get out of school before we’re 20, and then we can just have fun from all the spread wealth while we’re young, and the rich corporations can pay us. And besides there’s lots of smart people in other countries that can do the hard jobs that the rich corporations need done – like those really smart engineers from other countries. Obama will never run out of wealth. And if he does, he is intellectual and will be able to find other wealth to spread to us. He would be able to fix it again if it runs out– I know he could. Biden just needs to get out of Obama’s way.

The government got involved with the economy by passing the CRA Act and allowing Acorn to sue a bank for not lending to people who were not qualified. The government started a snowball and this is the results of government intervention at its best. They do not know what is best for the people, private companies or foriegn governments and can not keep themselves back and out of the way. Congress has their chests pushed out like little banty roosters right now and they think they are in charge and they have to do something for the economy. OH My! I expected the brilliant mind of BHO to make a better selection than J. Biden. Joe is not bad if you consider whose pocket he is in…look at all that legislation he pushed for the credit card companies regarding interest rates, bankruptcy, etc. Not only did he ‘stick it to the people’ now we are stuck with him. Maybe you get what you deserve when you put people like Joe in office.

At the University of Connecticut, we are conducting a research study
to understand what people think of the election. More specifically, we
are interested in what people think of the new president, whether they
support a variety of social policies, and what factors influence these
judgments.

If you agree to participate in the study, you will be asked to read an
article that was written after the election. You will then be asked a
series of questions. These questions will ask you about your thoughts
and opinions of the new president, your support for different social
policies, as well as your general views of the world. The study should
take 15-20 minutes of your time. All information that you provide will
be strictly anonymous.

I am opposed to government bailouts of ANY kind and guess what all you folks in your 20′s, 30′s and 40′s….YOU are going to be paying for all this mess for decades to come. Just keep putting liberals who like big government programs in office and you will get even more of the same. I am in my 50′s and am very worried about my kids’ and future grandkids standard of living in years to come…..it AIN’T going to be what you are used to now. What is all this bailout nonsense going to accomplish besides more debt. Get ready… Social Security and Medicare are next. Sooner or later we’ll have to pay the piper. Good luck in letting the government solve all your problems. We will live to regret these days.

Obama is quickly filling up his foreign policy team so he can check it off his list and stay out of it. His real agenda is to get his meat hooks into the domestic side of things with the biggest government this country has ever seen.
I was at a pro basketball game last night and couldnt believe the conversations going on around me. How Obama was going to “take care of me, get me a mortgage, get me out of debt, find me a job, finally make things equal, make the rich people finally pay up, send my kid to college for free”.
Wow is all I can say.

Thanks for the news flash Joe. As for people being upset about his comments, it really doesn’t matter what this guy says. He’s a politician. We are waiting for politicians to get us out of this mess and thats the wrong thing to do. We need free market and a severe recession. This is a consequence of overspending, inflated bubbles, and artificially low interest rates. You don’t get out of this by spending more money. We need to swallow our medicine and deal with the recession and move on. Central government planning does not work! How much more evidence do we need of this. How did we get to this point.

Ch, good post. When are we going to learn from Europe, Japan, our own history, and the history of states like Michigan, California and New York..the more “govt” spending, the more regulations, the lower the economy.
If everyone who paid taxes had to write out a check every month for what they send to the government, there would be an uprising.
Why does anyone want MORE GOVT control of ANYTHING? Have more faith in yourselves America, each of us is smarter than any govt official and collectively we make better decisions.
