Bushes Planning a Move to Dallas

ABC News Ann Compton Reports: President and Laura Bush are moving to Dallas once they leave the White House, the First Lady said on Wednesday.

Laura Bush confirmed that she and the President are buying a house in Dallas, about two hours from his beloved Prairie Chapel Ranch in Crawford, Texas.

She broke the news while unveiling the White House’s patriotic Christmas décor this morning, explaining that her family will be "very careful" with spending this holiday to save up for their real estate purchase.

“We will be moving to Dallas in January and there might be a new house coming along. So I think that’s where we’ll spend our Christmas money," she added.

Though it sounds as though they’ve picked out a new house, the First Lady’s spokeswoman Sally McDonough said Mrs. Bush and her husband do "not have occupancy yet" of a home. A real estate agent working with Mrs. Bush told the Dallas Morning News that they have looked at properties. Rumors of a purchase had swirled through Dallas social circles for a year, but until now, Mrs. Bush firmly denied that her husband had purchased any Dallas land for post-presidency residence.

The couple is said to be looking in the upscale Highland Park area around Southern Methodist University, where Mrs. Bush attended college, and where the president intends to build his library and a policy institute.

The theme of the White House Christmas this year: patriotism.

“That’s the theme. It’s a red, white and blue holiday,” the First Lady said. “And it’s just — since it’s our last Christmas here, we wanted to do a patriotic theme. And it’s an election year, so it’s perfect to do a patriotic theme.”

Laura Bush called her last Christmas in the White House “bittersweet.”

In an interview with Charles Gibson aired earlier this week, president Bush said he’d “like to live life without the limelight for a while.”

Laura Bush added jokingly that she is thinking of becoming a cook again.

“I’ll miss living at the White House, of course, and all the people that are there that we’re with every single day,” she told Gibson. “It’s the people we’ll miss the most.”

The haters should leave this country of ours now. Iran, Venezuela, North Korea will welcome these haters. Eight years of safety, that’s the real legacy for W. We will find out how well the Messiah and his Queen (one who needs a rock to affirm her status and inner beauty – unlike the current occupany with class and grace) keep us from harm in the next 4 yrs.

Welcome to Dallas, President Bush. Thanks for your service. I didn’t always agree with you. But, on most issues you always had America first, even in the face of some of the harshest criticism any president has had to face. Hope to see you both around town!

I was a strong supporter of Bush until he opened our borders and wanted amnesty for 12 million illegals. I only hope that he pardons the two border patrol agents, Ramos and Compean, who are locked up because Johnny Sutton, admist allegations of wrongful prosecution, let the bad guy walk and put the good guys in prison. I wish George well, but I hope he just fades into the past.

Do Bush supporters think his presidency has been a success?
What if Bush had promised…
the 9/11 attacks
the Iraq War
oil prices
Katrina
the stock market
trashing the economy
Would he have been elected?
Also, if this was a successful presidency, what would an unsuccessful presidency have looked like?
And if Bush’s presidency was successful, how would you describe Clinton’s?

“THANK GOD our national nightmare is over and we finally have a President to respect!” EXACTLY! The thing I respect most about Obama is his ability to get things done. Like trading $15,000,000 of Illinois taxpayer money for $300,000 of Rezko’s.. straight to his pocket.

The public and Dems in congress were overwhelmingly supportive of the Iraq war. Blame them too?
Oil prices were Bush’s fault… how?
Nagin & Landeau were FAR more culpable than Bush for devastation in New Orleans, but I’ll agree he could have done much better.
Economic collapse is fault of dems demanding FMae & FMac give away the store. Bush tried to stop them.
If you’re going to lay anything at Bush’s feet, try these: he listened to the wrong experts for three years on Iraq; he trusted Putin; and he refused to veto a disgraceful binge-spending GOP congress.
But looking back to 9/12/2001, I never imagined we’d have it as good as we have these last seven years. The notion that Bush is the “worst POTUS in history/this century/whatever” is a media myth.

Hey Buzzsaw:
1. We have not had a domestic Muslim terrorist attack post 9/11.
2. We are winning the Iraq War
3. Oil prices have declined steeply – does Bush get blame for a price rise but no credit for a price decline?
4. Sorry to inform you that Bush does not cause hurricanes nor is he responsible for the negligence responses of the Mayor of New Orleans and the governor of Louisiana.
Bush is open to criticism but let’s stick to facts.

So GWB is an idiot, a simple man who knows nothing, a fool, and a drunk. The incoming guy is another idiot with a nice smile, a wife with greviances, a bunch of kids with expensive piano lessons, the incoming guy also has questionable past including being pals of bombers and copkillers. He’s also a hard drug user, just that we don’t know if he was a drug dealer himself. How about that. Poisons flow in both directions and there are bucket loads of them for both sides of the spectrum.

As a proud Texan I am happy to welcome President and Mrs. Bush back to the Lone Star state. He has sheparded this nation through dangerous times and led the fight for liberty in a part of the world desperately in need of being brought into the 21st Century. History will vindicate him and establish his role as a truly transformational figure, much as Harry Truman has been vindicated by history. It will be fun to watch those who have posted hateful and mean remarks to this article moan when The One disillusions them and recevies a healthy dose of what they have heaped upon the Commander in Chief and a good man.

ghost>> I propose that stupid people must leave this country.
No; I’d be so lonely… ;o)
Seriously, it’s true that Bush was Pres on 9/11/01. But take the longer view: how many presidents participated in establishing the environment in which that horrible event took place (including my beloved Reagan, who first ill-advisedly sent troops into Lebanon, then removed them in a way that signaled weakness to our enemies).
9/11 was a whole new page in our history. If you will blame 9/11 on Bush, you must blame Ft. Sumter on Lincoln, and Pearl Harbor on Roosevelt. These unprecedented events may seem obvious to the Monday morning quarterback, but on the ground, as the game is playing out, I don’t believe they are nearly so easy to see.
Far more telling — or certainly AS telling — is what has happened since. The Iraq war is, from all accounts, won and waiting patiently to be proclaimed so. There has not been another successful terror attack on American soil since 9/11 — a statement no one believed seven years ago we’d be able to make today.
Bush was not a perfect President. In many ways I don’t think he was a very good one (he certainly taught me that an ability to communicate VERY WELL *IS* a job requirement for President). But he has been, I believe, an honorable man who has put his country first at every turn, and has kept it safe. For this, if nothing else, I respect him.
Bush haters rant on; I’ve heard it all.

Free speech is gauranteed by the Constitution. Information put about on airwaves, wires, and other public access forms of communication cannot be unless you hang the wires yourself. I sure wouldn’t say anything I might be ashamed of later on a radio wave .
The Constitution protects my privacy rights, in private. I wonder how many terrorists have been caught on the airwaves anyway.I know I havn’t been attacked since 9-11.

History will judge Bush’s performance as a president. I doubt he will make a comeback as Truman has. Two reasons: The first is that his administration achieved no major legislation that truly improved our lives. Second is the fact that already some 90% of historians have determined that he is the worst president ever. I can add a third reason – numerous people from his administration who have been indicted, plead guilty or are being investigated.

The Democrats and their Liberal Supporters are so bitter of losing the 2000 and 2004 Elections that’s why they never stopped putting Bush down by every means. The collapse of the economy should be blamed on the Democrat Congress for the mishandling of the Fannie Mae & FredMac. I hate it when people are stupid.
Look, the subprime mortages wouldn’t have been a problem except for a couple of things: 1. They would have been
contained in the banks, which would have prevented them from getting too lax or too numerous. However, the Republicans destroyed the regulations which
prevented those mortgages from being seperated from Wall Street. These high risk mortgages were sold off as pieces and bundles of investments and the risk
was passed down the line because the line drawn between your average small bank and the large investment firms was destroyed. Because the risk was passed
down, lending to anyone became easy. The new surge in loans created an influx of home buyers which drove up the price. Completely seperate from the subprime
mortgages (and your association with Clinton by the way) was 2nd mortgages/home equity lines. This had nothing to do with the subprimes, except that the
subprimes caused the initial hype in home values which fueled the home equity lines. Republicans had all the warning signs. They didn’t act. Didn’t take a
genious to figure out the bottom would drop. And it did. Back in 06 BEFORE the Dems got into Congress.

The Republicans eliminated most regulations that would have prevented this economic collapse in other words.
More examples of this: S&L crisis in the 80′s during Republican rule. McLame was involved in the Keating 5 by the way, in case you forgot.
Free market principles without oversight would allow a thousand Enrons to be in business. Republicans are extremely ignorant when it comes to putting their full faith in free markets.
There is a REASON why businesses are REQUIRED now to hire outside auditors. If you put complete failth in the businesses to regulate themselves then you must
expect them to behave like bad children. They will try to get away with whatever they can until they get caught or cause their own demise. Unfortunately, the
world economy is so intertwined, that then a company behaves badly and cuts corners it affects EVERYONE.

Among intelligent, thinking people, there is no debate about whether Bush was the worst president in history. Just today the president allowed the EPA to gut mining rules in the Appalacians that protect headwaters of streams. There is really no end to the damage this adminstration has caused throughout the government and our country. It will take years to recover from our country electing a man on the basis of how he held a Bible instead of how he could lead, govern, and protect our Constitution.
My prayers are that the citizens who have experienced or understand the level of this damage, will speak out so that the current craze of revisionist history among hard rightwingers does not ever successfully convince another human being that George Bush was anything less than the worst president our country has ever had.
One would think that Bush would remember that in politics, like gymnastics, everyone remembers the landing. But, no, recent signings are just additional proof that the man has no love for the planet much less anyone who is not a bank executive.

ff—-when the US was attacked i didn’t blame President Bush. if after 911 if another attack had happened i would not have blamed President Bush. terrorist attacks are sometimes unpreventable in some cases. that you are ready to blame the President-Elect and “Democrats” if something happens is hypocricy at its highest. i never voted for President Bush and never would. but i wouldn’t blame him for terrorist attacks. it’s sad that you would blame the new president.

I love Dubya! He single handedly pulled the veil off of conservatism and showed it to be the “for the rich, lack of compassion, lack of morality, self centered,” policy that it truly is.
Americans have seen that aspect of it, with Chimpy shinning the light on it with his smirking pearly whites.
I hope he is the face of the Repugs for generations to come.
God love him…….

I did not vote for President Bush nor do I think history will be kind to him. However, in all fairness, our economic problems began decades ago. Our foreign policy has also been horrible for years. President elect Obama will be a better President but don’t expect the economy to improve any time soon. That will take a miracle.
Just as a side note, it is amusing when people say haters can go to Iran and Russia. What this genius fails to list are the countries whose standard of living is better than ours, say, most of Europe, Australia and Canada.

Bush should find a nice little hacienda for himself in Mexico where he is beloved. He has served that country and its people well.

President Bush had his hands full with Democrats who do not read the congressional record. He kept us safe after the Dems left us vulnurable.

Uneducated = republican
educated = democrat
“the biggest predictor of party affiliation may be education, argues Alan Wolfe in an opinion piece in The New Republic.
As evidence, Mr. Wolfe points to a new poll by Washington Post/ABC News that found that white people without a college degree favor John McCain, the Republican candidate, by 17 percentage points, while those with a college degree prefer Barack Obama, the Democratic candidate, by 9 percentage points.”

Texas, please just leave the union. This time we won’t care and we won’t send in Grant’s Army. You did so well as your country. If you were your own country again (or even better if you rejoined Mexico) the rest of us would be guaranteed never to have another bad president. LBJ and GW were two of the worst.

So I’m not labeled a complete ‘hater’, I’ll first take the time to wish the Bush’s well in their transition. Say what you want about George, but Laura is a classy lady (he sure married over his head). George may be a great drinking buddy, but as a President he was among the worst (see the ‘worst president in 50 years’ story). However, I still find it grating that those simpletons who voted for him twice think we’re somehow ‘safer’ now because he was in office, saying “well, we haven’t been attacked in 7 years!” Give me a break. This is equivalent to jumping off a cliff, and halfway through your fall thinking to yourself “Well, I ain’t dead yet, so this is gonna turn out okay!” while completely ignoring the fact that you’re about to splatter all over the ground.

Welcome to Dallas! I think it is a huge honor to have him and Mrs. Bush here. I am sure they will receive a very warm welcome.

It’s because of Bush that Dallas has become a “blue” county. I don’t think he’ll find this city as welcoming as he hopes to.

I bet Laura divorces him within 5 years.

Policy Institute? With all the horrible policies the Bush administration has made; as well as getting us into 2 wars, hurting our image around the world, and a terrible recession – which Bush denied was happening… who in their right mind, no matter from what party, would ever take policy from George W. Bush?
The only good policies Bush ever did in his 8 years was giving Aide to Africa for Aids and “The No Call List” protecting us from telemarketers. Ever thing else failed or isn’t as good as it could have been.

We should build a memorial for America’s who died in Iraq … on Bush’s ranch.

Yup, it’s kind of like a kid coming to run the country; one who had ADHD; a short memory and no regard for the job he was about to take on…mucking around with our country as though it were a toy for his pleasure! “My administration; I, me,me,mine was his theme and that doesn’t work! I think his record speaks for itself. Are you better off today than you were in 2000? I doubt it…unless you are one of the families (1% of the population) for whom the tax cuts were designed!!
Anyone who can support Bush after the mess he’s brought us is not to be believed!! Someone said to the effect that if this was success, he’d hate to see failure! Amen!

We do not want him in Florence Colorado either. Even if he is locked up. How about the Hague? Try him for war crimes.

I find it hard to believe that people are so uninformed regarding the actual causes of our financial problems. Perhaps if they understood the ramifications of the Gramm Leach Bliley act of 1999 (which Clinton signed into law, passed by a Republican majority in the Senate) that allowed Mortgage and Investment companies to become involved in the Banking industry, or the Commodity Exchange Act (Gramm authored, Bush signed) that opened the gates for Mortgage originators to sell bundled Mortgages to institutions for collection. So, the originators of these bad loans passed them on to investment companies, who were looking to make a buck on collection. In addition, the late night SEC meeting in 2004, with the banking lobby, that gave them the ability to outspend their collateral in buying loans. It is a very complex trail of bad law, no oversight, and greed that have produced our financial crisis. Blaming it on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is a complete lack of knowledge as to what has actually occurred.
Does anyone realize the ONE thing that occurred after President Bush received the brief titled “Bin Laden determined to attack inside the US”? Members of the Cabinet were told it was no longer safe to fly commercial!!! And what was done to protect commercial airlines. NOTHING.
Let add it up:
1) Bush inherits a surplus from Clinton, Bush leaves office with the country in recession and a record deficit.
2) Bush claims that Saddam did not allow UN inspectors to inspect suspect sites of WMD, to the contrary, Saddam ALLOWED unfettered access to EVERY site the UN requested to visit. Bush was actually the person who kicked out UN inspectors on the eve of the Iraqi war.
3) Bush installed partisan hacks in key positions (“Great job Brownie”) who were not qualified and as a result we still have our citizens in coastal Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana living in third world conditions.
The list goes on and on…
Good riddance to the worst President ever. I feel sorry for Dallas, other than the toll roads, the heat and humidity, it is a nice city.

Time to cover the Bush white house.
Cover the present.
If you want to cover the future we can talk about what will happen in 2065

Buying a house? Why in hell isn’t this criminal in prison??

Posted by: David | December 4, 2008, 9:47 pm 9:47 pm

i can’t believe it. The bushes will be 4 doors down from me and I will have to put up with this idiot and all the secret service cops patrolling the streets. I won’t be able to go out and see the dancers, my stripper friends, and I won’t be able to bring them home or invite them over. My personal life is now ruined.

Good luck and god bless President Bush and His wife. he has lead the country with dignity and class. Laura was so classy and full of grace, she will be hard to follow. I do not think Michelle has the class to pull it off.
