Harsh Reviews for Caroline Kennedy, You Know?
In the New York Daily News, Michael Goodwin writes: "Kennedy is not ready for the job and doesn’t deserve it. Somebody who loves her should tell her. Her quest is becoming a cringe-inducing experience, as painful to watch as it must be to endure. Because she is the only survivor of that dreamy time nearly 50 years ago, she remains an iconic figure. But in the last few days, her mini-campaign has proved she has little to offer New Yorkers except her name."
The New York Times transcript of its interview with Kennedy reveals her using the verbal tic "you know" 142 times, as first counted by an abacus-wielding Ben Smith.

Caroline Kennedy is just a warmed over Sarah Palin…YOU KNOW

If using the “you know” tic was a qualification meter, wouldn’t that mean most people of my kind, at least most of the ones on TV, would not pass the political exam? I saw a bit of the interview and thought this was going to be noticed.
I guess it’s okay for athletes to using it as opposed to politicians, or white politicians for that matter? I may disagree with the criticism but if you’re going to rake Caroline Kennedy over the coal for this, please have some guts and explain why this is a problem.

I must say I am not impressed with Caroline. We all know she is smart and capable and a great person. These are not necessairly qualities that make a good Senator though. She has spent 50 years running away/being shielded from the press and has been woefully inept (teetering on Palinesque)in her abilities to deal with them. Any poliotician knows that the press in your friend if you know how to manipulate them just right. Caroline does not have this skill. Caroline is not entitled to this seat just because a Kennedy once held it.

Having just read the transcript of this interview just confirms what I said before. Caroline cannot handle the press. She cannot pick and choose which questions to answer and which ones not to. She has clearly uncomfoprtable anywhere near a reporter which is understandable haveing been taught from day one that they are the enemy and are to be feared. She definately needs to move on.

By itself, repeating “you know” in virtually every sentence may not be a big deal.
But it was significant as part of a series of thoroughly underwhelming interviews by Ms. Kennedy.
When a “candidate” with no experience in office and no record on most major issues is introducing herself to the public, she needs to make a good impression. Instead, Caroline Kennedy was inarticulate, and unpersuasive as to why she should be our next Senator.
I dislike Hillary Clinton and voted against her, but she was far more articulate and prepared. Even Schumer is better spoken than Ms. Kennedy.

Her storied reputation was used to help get Obama elected. What she’ll get in return, rather than the Senate seat she expected, is a loss in reputation.
But.
Obama did get to use her for his own good.

And one cannot help but note that there were no Bush doctrine questions, nor were there any questions about Supreme Court decisions.

Caroline’s life is filled with great happiness, great wealth, and profound tragedy. I don’t know if I could be as positive a person as she is given the personal family losses she has sustained over the years. However, that doesn’t give her a free pass to the U.S. Senate. The “you know” gaffes in the short excerpt I saw of her interview were painful to watch. What kind of education did she get at Radcliffe and Columbia? Caroline — please let it go, and let others more qualified step in.

Sarah Palin was/is not inept and those of you comparing Palin to Caroline Kennedy.
Wait, did Caroline Kennedy EVER govern a large state? Been a mayor? Cooked food for her family with her own hands? How does she compare with Palin again?
Meanwhile, Obama, the guy who gave a speech, is holding onto W’s war team.
I believe it’s more class than sex prejudice here. CK’s resume is far thinner even than Obama’s – and that’s no mean feat. Palin was a ‘commoner” as even some RW pundits were proclaiming. CK, like Obama – is born into the ruling class.
I dunno how John jr would have compared. I am hardly a fan of the family – any family – but he seemed to show an actual interest for the public life – I mean his own, not his uncle’s.

CK should join Toastmasters to root out the “you know,” “ahs” & “ums.” I’ve read CK’s books. She doesn’t talk at all like she writes. Obama doesn’t speak like the “Dreams of my Father” because William Ayers wrote it. Compared to “Fugitive Days” same dumb nautical references, NYC East River metaphors, images of boys riding the back of water buffalo, same cooking metaphors, same dumb triple dependent clauses style, same green-eyed blonde girlfriend whose father owns a country estate with a lake in the back yard, where they paddle a small boat. William Ayers speaks just like he writes. If he wants a thinker, Gov. Patterson should appoint William Ayers to the US Senate seat.

I tell you, US goverment officials really do need to begin pretending that they are in office to serve the people and not themselves because taking office for the express purpose of serving themselves is showing bright and clear. How could the govenor deny qualified candidates for the likes of Caroline Kennedy? These types of antics are more than I can bare. I’m getting sick and tired of government officials who think that they are untouchable and that they can ram anything down the throat of the American people. If they don’t start working smarter at doing a better job of serving us, we should start working harder to get rid of them and elect people who really care and will work for us as a way of earning their keep. Because as it stands, the current crop of officials are getting paid to do nothing except rip us off. And now they are bringing in Carolinge to join the circus.

Its not really a campaign only Paterson can decide who can help New York as Senator.
Harsh reviews from New York Republicans are no surprise. Some New York Democrats may have already been committed to anther Democrat before Caroline threw her hat into the ring.
She can campaign as seen by her appearance at the LA Get Out the Vote rally for Obama back in February 2008. She has been on the campaign trail all year for the Obama/Biden ticket. Thats a preview of what she could bring to the New York 2010 and 2012 elections.

This is about a Senate seat in New York.
The people want her! We want her because she is not self-serving and has aa willingness and eagerness to work for the best interest of the people.
Many of us don’t care about her name or her ‘verbal tic’. We care about what she can offer the people and the state of New York!

CK’s relentless “you knowing” and utter unarticulateness is a problem because she now wants to be a United States senator, not a running back for the Bears.
We still have SOME standards for people who want ( or who, in her case, “decided”), that they want to hold one of the most covered, powerful positions in the world.
On the other hand, no one cares, much less expects, an athlete to even be literate.
CK is a moron. All you people who say how intelligent she is, need to look up the words, “legacy” and “ghost writer”.

let me just say that I don’t know CK all that well but I heard she was working for her state at $1 a year at some point. I really don’t think a person would bother getting out of bed in the morning to earn $1 a year if they didn’t care about what they were doing. I do think her interest is genuine and that she would really work hard for the state. Having said that, I do think this entitlement politics is a bit worrying. It sort of ruins my understanding that you should earn what you get and not necessarily get it because it has been yours for the taking all along and you just decided to claim it at this instance.

A majority of Americans believe that Caroline Kennedy is qualified to be a US senator, according to a new poll out today.
In the CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey, 52 percent said the daughter of President John F. Kennedy is qualified to serve, while 42 percent said she is not qualified.
Posted by: Ruth | December 29, 2008, 1:26 pm 1:26 pm
Caroline and Obama a lot in common.
Neither of them have worked hard for anything they’ve achieved in life and both have a sense of entitlement that they should be placed at the head of the line because both think they are better than anybody else.
The only difference is that people are pointing these things out about Caroline but the same people didn’t hold BO to this same standard when he decided he was qualified to be president.
I don’t believe Caroline is qualified for the U.S. Senate and doesn’t deserve the honor of being appointed. Far more women in New York who have worked hard and built a political foundation deserve the seat. Alternatively, I also didn’t believe BO was qualified to be a U.S. Senator either, much less President, but nobody in the press were being as diligent in pointing out the obvious with him as they are now doing with Caroline.
Sadly, as much as many hate to admit it, Caroline is being held to a higher standard than BO was/is.

That anyone even considers Caroline Schlossberg (She is still married to Edwin, right?) a viable candidate shows how messed up our current political system is… and it shows the hypocricy of those who very recently mercilessly criticized a woman who rose to the highest office in her state on her own hard work and accomplishments.
Posted by: MaryJo | December 29, 2008, 1:41 pm 1:41 pm
MaryJo, I agree with you. We have to give Sarah Palin credit for making it on her own. I do think she shouldn’t have made it but the fact is she still made it and that deserves a whole lot of credit. So we should indeed question why Caroline Kennedy would be appointed for that post. Is it only because of her name? if it is, then its troublesome. If its because of something else that she offers (even if its her name to the 2010 election), then she has a right to be considered. She does have a right to use her name if its something usable; after all, only her actions would have kept her name intact and still valuable today. However, I do think she should wait until 2010 and run for election then so that she can demonstrate to the people of NY her ideas and her commitment. If she is elected, then she would have earned her post because thats how the America democracy has been set up.
Jenny — In the United States of America (the country you live in), elections are the ONLY way that a person can earn their post. Bush earned it and now Obama has earned it. If you don’t agree, take up the issue with the [nearly] 67 million people who hired him for the job. No point in regurgitating the ‘media’ topic once people have voted.

The reaction to Caroline Kennedy is entirely different than it would have been to any man in exactly the same situation. What is hilarious is that the media is trying to present this as a feminist/sexism/misogyny issue. Suddenly, the Obot media is sensitive to this?
So like I said. i don’t see any Caroline Kennedy is a C*** tee shirts.
The question that keeps bugging me is why didn’t the “smell of reality” set in regarding Obama?

To criticize Caroline Kennedy’s lack of qualifications is not, in itself, sexist or partisan.
Caroline Kennedy is not qualified for the Senate. She has never held or run for any public office. The woman hasn’t even bothered to vote in very many elections. And now she expects to be appointed to the Senate because of her last name. I would criticize a man or a Republican for the same clueless presumption.
I criticized Sarah Palin for being under-qualified for the vice-presidency. I would have criticized a man or a Democrat in the same circumstances.
But I’ll say this in Gov. Palin’s favor: She ran for and held lower public office before joining the GOP ticket — ran on her own record, and did not expect to be appointed because of who her Daddy was.
Posted by: Alex | December 29, 2008, 2:52 pm 2:52 pm
John Kennedy Jr. decided he wanted to start his own magazine, George, with ZERO experience in the publishing field. An investor stepped forward and gave him $22 million, and he had unlimited free PR.
Caroline has no idea what regular life is for people. To be a Senator is just a family job for her–she’s been surrounded by them all her life. It doesn’t occur to her how much detailed work will be involved, how much tedious hand-shaking and fund-raising, and policy research (ie: if you want to be any good at it). She just wants to be part of the new, kewl Obamalot.
I don’t dislike her however, her perspective is wildly distorted, and it shows. Obama has that for a different reason–he just reeks of arrogance, feeling like he is “special.”
Posted by: Jenny | December 29, 2008, 2:58 pm 2:58 pm
Jenny: Kennedy is NOT being treated any differently than an equally unqualified man would be treated if he expected to be appointed to the Senate because of his last name.
Obama’s case is entirely different.
Obama served in the Illinois legislature before running for the U.S. Senate. The voters of Illinois had the opportunity to decide if he was qualified. Obama served in the U.S. Senate before running for the presidency. Voters nationwide had the opportunity to decide whether he was sufficiently qualified.
Kennedy has never run for public office before, often doesn’t even vote, and her involvement in public affairs isn’t any greater than that of many other rich matrons. And now she expects to be appointed to the U.S. Senate because she is a Kennedy. Voters don’t get to decide.
When women are criticized, it isn’t always because they are women. Sometimes they simply deserve the criticism. Kennedy’s foolish expectation of being appointed to the Senate is one of those cases.

Caroline Kennedy thinks she would bring federal money to New York based on the fact she supported Obama for president.
Wow, if that’s how Caroline expects Obama to dole out the federal dollars — and our tax money will go only to states where the senators supported him — it says something really awful about what Ms. Kennedy thinks being a president is all about.
Imagine if FDR — during The Great Depression of the 1930s — had doled out federal money and jobs only to the states where the senators had supported him. Holy cow.
That is an alarming and horrifying view of the presidency — and that view alone should DISQUALIFY Caroline from being appointed to the senate.
She needs to take a few minutes (or years) out to re-evaluate the role of an American president.
In the meantime, let one of New York’s current House members have the U.S. senate seat, and then Caroline can COMPETE for the vacated House seat.

Given the former “Democrats”‘ long and mostly silent collusion with the worst excesses of the Bush coup, maybe another Democratic celebrity Senator whose virtual inability to speak rivals that of PEBO could turn out to be a GOOD thing: if, as it seems, Mrs. Schlossberg has braces on her brain (as Patrick Dennis wrote of a character in Auntie Mame), she could just parade her wraithy DNA and NOT talk, you know.’
That not VOTING thing’s a little weird for somebody who wants to get her political start as a US Senator, but, hey!, NOT voting worked for her idol Obama in the state AND the US Senate.

At one time, I considered myself a “liberal” when it came to social issues, in particular.
However, after what I witnessed in the primary as a DNC delegate when the so-called liberals tried to destroy one of their own to protect The One–King Obama, I washed my hands of accepting any label for myself every again.
Hillary proved herself to be the most qualified, as well as the right person, at the right time, to be president.
Instead, the power elite(predominantly white men) decided that no woman would be allowed to achieve the highest power position in the world. Instead, they “gave” it to the least qualified male, whom they could count on to do as he was told.
After all, much like Caroline is regarding the Senate position, Obama never really wanted to “do” anything as president more than he just wanted to “be” president. God knows he didn’t “do anything as Illinois senator.
It’s hard not to be saddened over what we lost as a country, when the DNC/Soros did everything they could to stop Hillary from being president.
I will never “get over it.”

Caroline even has Drudge on the front page saying “You know” for the last 24 hours :-D
Unless Patterson is already committed to Andrew Cuomo, then Caroline is still in the running.
New York is going to need all the help it can get and Caroline has shown that she can You know get the media attention even when this isn’t a campaign. Where Caroline Kennedy stands on the issues that matter to New York compared to a Republican rival like Peter King might be helpful to the voters?
The last impression many voters had of Caroline was when she was campaigning for Obama. She did great.

Caroline Kennedy is just a warmed over Sarah Palin…YOU KNOW
__
Really? I haven’t heard Kennedy tell whoppers like she was against the bridge to nowhere and didn’t accept the federal funding for it even though she wasn’t and she did.
I haven’t heard Kennedy quote an anti-semite like Westbrook Pegler, as Palin did in her convention speech.
So obviously YOU DON’T KNOW.

What is most disturbing thing about the AP article is it has been clean-up. If YOU-TUBE had not put the video up we would never know. Shame on the AP.

“The last impression many voters had of Caroline was when she was campaigning for Obama. She did great.”
“Great”? She was a simpering shill, you know, doing a celebrity endorsement, and didn’t actually, you know, SAY anything.
And don’t forget that she couldn’t even bestir herself to, you know, VOTE in the system at the top of which she now, you know, wants to start being “political”, after a life of disdaining politics.

The more Caroline Kennedy opens her mouth, the more convinced I am that if we didn’t permit trusts to exist in America the present day Kennedys would all be broke.
There would be a helluva lot of rich bartenders and hookers up and down the East Coast.
And Caroline would be behind the counter at a Madison Avenue boutique, and not a customer.
Any comparisons between Sarah Palin and Caroline Kennedy are totally out of line.
Palin has actually run for office (and won) a bunch of times. She has successfully run both a city and a State government. And she is wholly self-made.
Kennedy on the other hand is a typical member of this generation of her family– great educational resume (although I think we all know how they got into those schools), light on brains (remember her brother took a few times to pass the bar), heavy on press-fed mystique, and carrying a huge load of entitlement.
Someone once called the Royal Family of Britain England’s most famous welfare family. Except that it’s Joe’s bootleg money, and not taxpayer’s funds, the Kennedy’s are our’s.
People are sniping at Gov. Paterson for failing to appoint her quickly, to end these attacks on her. Our Governor-by-hooker is showing himself to be a pretty adept politician. He is simply waiting, letting this incompetent dilettante burn herself out in the press, then he can pick whom he chooses.
Smart Governor.
Typical Kennedy.

Caroline Kennedy will be perfect for that seat. She won’t vote any different than Clinton or Monahan. And in a northeast blue state like NY she can rein until she can run for president. Those voters will rubber stamp her in that office for the next 30 years.

During the VP debate, Sarah Palin said “also” 48 times, “again” 23 times, and “too” 14 times.
Caroline’s verbal TICitude beats Sarah’s by a long shot.

Why didn’t someone count how many times Obama said Uh or you know during the campaign? That was every bit as irritating,

Mrs. Sclossberg may not have what it
takes to be the senator from N.Y…..
but she’s so damned beautiful, let’s
just GIVE it to her. At least she wears
a dress….unlike her predecessor, and
as far as we know, is not married to
a skirt-chaser…..as far as we know.
Besides, she earned her fortune the old
way…by being born, NOT from her
husband’s dealings with mid-east potentates and enemies of our country.

Despite her fancy Ivy League education the fact remains that Caroline Kennedy is an intellectual midget. It is no great accomplishment to get into Harvard when your name is Kennedy. It is also ironic that the same people who trumpet her Ivy League education as evidence of her intellectual capacity are the same people who overlooked Predisent Bush’s Yale education when labeling him a moron. She wrote books with the help of a research team and a writing coach. She is another in the long line of the Kennedy family members who uses her last name to feed at the trough of public service.

Where was all the criticism of Hillary Clinton who can’t get through 2 sentences during an interview without saying “you know.” Seriously. Give a listen to any of her primary interviews.
Comparisons to Sarah Palin are absurd because Palin’s biggest problem was that she was stupid. She couldn’t string a coherent sentence together. There is nothing stupid about Caroline. Palin was also extremely devisive. She’s George Bush in a dress.

I don’t think Caroline Kennedy is very accomplished. People have complained before about Bush being born on third base and thinking he hit a home run when he got to fourth base. It is no different here.

So, uh Jake, ummm, just, you know, wondering, why you, uh, haven’t, you know, painstakingly transcribed? ummm, exerpts from Caroline’s interviews, like you know, like you did Sarah Palin’s?
