More Rendell Hot Mic Comments!!! Palin ‘Not A Genius’ But Has ‘Very Good Political Instincts’

Further examination of the videotape reveals that Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell’s comments about Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano’s not having a life (and thus being the perfect nominee to be PEBO’s Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security) weren’t the only ones he made on the hot mic in Philly.

The stocky Democrat and chair of the National Governors Association also weighed in on another colleague — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Parts of the comments are inaudible, but here’s what you can hear:

"Look, she has a right to be here," Rendell said. "I think she has great instincts. She’s not a genius, but she has very good political instincts."

Rendell, the former mayor of Philadelphia, went on about the former mayor of Wasilla: "I think what she’s going to say is we need to give the new administration a chance and we’re going to cooperate where we can because that’s what the American people want to hear. They don’t want to hear any bulls**t."

In Palin’s remarks, she did not use the word bulls**t.

Hey Jake, and you keep referring to Governor Palin as the former “Major of Wasilla.” Don’t forget that she is the current Governor of Alaska.
Geez, anyone can see how biased you are!
Go Sarah!

Two paragraphs above that statement he says she’s the Governor of Alaska.

Rendell is a nice guy but he like Biden like to talk and talk and sometimes they put the foot in their mouth!

Posted by: Karen, PA | December 4, 2008, 6:17 pm 6:17 pm

I believe the original story was “it wasn’t clear what Rendel said”….another “manufactured” story from the MSM. They just won’t give up.

Posted by: carol | December 4, 2008, 6:18 pm 6:18 pm

MSNBC? who Olbermann or Rachel? He is a punk and she is weird!!
They have not credibility at all. They are not journalist, they are just well paid pundits.

Posted by: Tom | December 4, 2008, 6:23 pm 6:23 pm

Uh…do you people actually read the article before commenting on it?
He was making a reference to the fact that Rendell was a former mayor of Philadelphia and in turn made same reference of former mayor status to Palin. Above that he only referred to Palin as Governor.

Posted by: Tom | December 4, 2008, 6:24 pm 6:24 pm

Geez, Mary,
That same paragraph also refers to Gov. Rendell as former “Mayor of Philadelphia”.
So….they both are identified in the story as current Governors, and also as former Mayors.
Stop whining (and yes, I voted for McCain/Palin, AND I’m female, so don’t even try to pull the “biased” labeling with me)

“not a genius”
Now THERE’s an understatement !!!!

I’m biased. I like intelligence. Kind of partial to it.
“Not a genius” is a kind phrase. A very kind phrase.

Isn’t there better news out there besides speculations about Sarah Palin’s IQ?

Posted by: kat | December 4, 2008, 6:56 pm 6:56 pm

I wonder if Palin heard those open-mike remarks from her seat in the last row, in the back of the room…
Nevermind, she knows about them now.

Posted by: Karen | December 4, 2008, 7:12 pm 7:12 pm

Is there any TRUTH that could be told about Sarah Palin that wouldn’t make one seem biased?

Posted by: chipo1965 | December 4, 2008, 7:24 pm 7:24 pm

Heh – good political instincts is right, she gave Saxby Chambliss a 10-point boost at the polls in Georgia last Monday, just by showing up and endorsing him in front of thousands of people who came to see her.
Oh, and you do know that Elaine Lafferty, the former editor of Ms. magazine (and a Democrat) has said that Palin is a brainiac with a photographic memory? And that Camille Paglia has said similar things?
The “Sarah Palin is stupid” meme is laughable. Stupid people don’t rise from nothing to become Governor of their state, with no support from the political establishment. I remember the “Reagan is stupid” campaign by the press, too.

Posted by: Jim62sch | December 4, 2008, 7:24 pm 7:24 pm

Rendell is governor of which one of the 57 states again?

Posted by: Joe | December 4, 2008, 7:25 pm 7:25 pm

I believe her IQ is a fabrication by the MSM, and it worked.
MSM did a really good job destroying Sarah Palin – I am sure they will be greatly rewarded by Obama.
I still cannot watch CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, or CNN. I deploy their unethical behaviors during the election. Until Katie Couric, Charles Gibson, and Brian Williams are replaced I will not be watching any evening news. I will get all of my news online.

The lack of respect many of you have shown Gov. Palin sickens me. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves for your vindictive attitudes towards a great leader who has much to contribute in the National dialogue

Posted by: Chris | December 4, 2008, 7:27 pm 7:27 pm

The lack of respect was the one shown to the American people by nominating this woman to the VPOTUS

Posted by: chipo1965 | December 4, 2008, 7:30 pm 7:30 pm

“Not a genius” covers quite a lot. Gov. Palin was smart enough to take on a lot of entrenched corruption in Alaska and send many of the people responsible packing. She was smart enough to drive through a new natural gas pipeline deal that the oil industry hated.
Do I think she’s up on the nuances of foreign policy? No. That’s not been her job in the past. I think President-Elect Obama has a small advantage there because he’s been running for President the last 3 years.
Do I think she’s an economic whiz kid? No. There aren’t many of those and the current crop seems a bit stumped. However, she has run a business, a city, and now a state. She’s got good instincts that keeping taxes low and encouraging private industry is helpful.
Let’s see what she accomplishes over the next few years in Alaska. If she decides to run for higher office again, we can take another look at her qualifications as they stand then. I was surprised to see a man with a very skimpy resume get elected this year so from the new standards, Gov. Palin is at least eligible for the job.

Posted by: Jill | December 4, 2008, 7:34 pm 7:34 pm

The forthcoming apology should be funny. Didn’t he have to apologize to Napolitano already? Now he’ll be forced to say “Of course Governor Palin is an intelligent woman – I am the one who is ‘not a genius’.”
And then the Palin supporters will always be able to say “Even Democratic Governor Ed Rendell thinks Palin is smart!” LOL – I love it!

Posted by: Bob2799 | December 4, 2008, 7:37 pm 7:37 pm

I think Rendell wanted the job of homeland security thats why he made the statement in jelousy And also him wanting to freeze the pay raises for state employees I mean mangament and supervisors is stupid why doesnt he take half of his pay and get rid of his big bus and limos to save money

Posted by: Bruce | December 4, 2008, 7:41 pm 7:41 pm

Another Pennsylvania Politician putting his foot in it. Remember Murtha and his redneck comments. Sounds to me like Rendell is no genius himself.

Posted by: cardoug | December 4, 2008, 7:43 pm 7:43 pm

Posted by: Mike | December 4, 2008, 7:47 pm 7:47 pm

I like Ed Rendell just fine, he did not say anything too awful. I remember how helpful he was campaigning with Hillary, she grew so much as a candidate during the run up to the Pennsylvania primary. Gov. Rendell is terrific as is Gov. Palin. Can we ignore some of this minor bs?

Texas – don’t try to kick us out because of our idiotic Governor, otherwise known as “Fast Eddie”. The only reason he got elected is because the people in Phila. & Pittsburgh figured he’d favor the cities… which he has. He doesn’t have a clue what suburban and rural PA need. I was kind of hoping he’d get a job in Washington, so we could get rid of him.

People, you have to remember that Alaska is famous for electing stupid, corrupt politicians, look at Steven’s and Young. Alaska is clueless when it comes to vetting anyone who runs for political office or for understanding a word they’re saying during their campaigns and the results are astounding! These aren’t smart politicians Alaska has, just stupid people electing them to office.

Posted by: LJ | December 4, 2008, 8:21 pm 8:21 pm

Actually, if you listem to the comments the part you report as “not a genius” is inaudible.
CNN has confirmed that in their report.

Gotta love how threatened Dems are by Sarah Palin, as shown by both Rendell and some of the commenters below.
Smart Dems know Sarah is a threat, and smear her with lies by calling her dumb. Stupid Dems believe the lies.

Posted by: Bob2799 | December 4, 2008, 9:20 pm 9:20 pm

I’m not sure who or if anyone was jailed, but Palin busted both the state Republican Party’s chairman, Randy Ruedrich, one of her fellow Oil & Gas commissioners and the former Alaska Attorney General Gregg Renkes, who both resigned; Ruedrich paid a record $12,000 fine. Then she beat Frank Murkowski in the Governor’s race. Those three from the good old boys club were in on some backroom deals with oil companies. Palin managed the pipeline deal Murkowski was working on. The contract is signed on that deal now.

Posted by: Barracuda Fan | December 4, 2008, 9:34 pm 9:34 pm

Why do people cluelessly make comments about Sarah’s intelligence? Do you actually know ANYTHING about how smart she is?
She gracefully handled Charlie Gibson’s dowdification of something she had said. Obama terminated relations with one news organization over lesser things.
Diplomacy take a rare combination of brains and patience. Sarah has more of both than you know-nothings realize.

At what point are people going to get sick of hot mike stories, or things like Obama’s private prayer getting taken out of the Wailing Wall?

Funny. Ed Rendell talking smack about one of the nation’s Governors that is not asking for federal bailout. Rendell being one of the 38 Governor’s begging for a federal bailout talking smack about one of the 12 Governor’s who have their budget under control and not asking for federal money. Maybe Palin and the other 11 should be giving classes on fiscal responsibility at this Governor’s Conference.

If instincts were all it took, we wouldn’t need to go to college and we’d all be employed without that requirement. Why do republicans think that failed politicians should be given more breaks on their education when it comes to qualifying for a job than the average ‘Joe the plumber’?

Posted by: Common Sense | December 4, 2008, 10:10 pm 10:10 pm

Frederick Michael,
Smart? Please. This woman says at the interview how Israel and America are the good guys, while lumping all the Palestinians and Arabs as bad guys! What was scary was the overly-religious overtones she appeared to view the conflict as!
Hello, with all the garbage and lies Fox news had been spewing about Obama, I shouldn’t be surprised. But in the end, Obama did 5 interviews with Fox news, you know. He also went on O’Reilly.
What brains does she has, brains that think she can question a fellow American’s patriotism and play on fears and Islamophobia because he had a Muslim father and his middle name is of Arabic origins? At the VP debate all she did was restate her talking points. She clearly could memorize, but obviously did not understand what she was talking about. She is also intellectually incurious, she couldn’t even name a single newspaper/magazine she read. Surely she read her daily newspaper in Wasilla, even if she did not read TIME or Newsweek?
Diplomacy? Don’t make me laugh. This woman will FAIL at diplomacy. Look how she lumps people as good or bad guys. She talks about Russia as though we are in the Cold War. Russia certainly isn’t on its best behaviour lately, but neither do you try to bring us back to the Cold War period with all that saber-rattling. She believes we should not second guess Israel- even if they carry out questionable airstrikes- because she assumes the Israelis are 100% good and the Palestinians are bad.
She thinks she can let the government decide for me what I do with my body.
RIGHT.
She’s definitely not a genius. She had a worse school record then McCain- and her behaviour as we saw during the election doesn’t seem to show that she has changed or improved.

I honestly never thought I’d live to see the day that democrats and progressives actually are proud of how sexist they are. In order for sexist liberals to view a woman as qualified for president she must be a genius, but if a man can believe the U.S. has 57 states and his running mate can claim FDR was president at the onset of the Depression and gave kindly speeches of gentle reassurance on the TV.
Thanks, democrats. I appreciate you exposing yourself has utterly full of garbage.

Posted by: w3bgrrl | December 5, 2008, 12:25 am 12:25 am

Thank you, grey matter. Not only are you going on at the keyboard about how Sarah Palin isn’t a genius and if a woman wants to have the hubris, the unmitigated gall to dare to be president when there are idiotic men like Barak Obama spouting off about 57 states and ventilators for asthmatic children and paying college students $40/hour for volunteer work (now THAT is Orwellian) then the little lady needs to step aside. Step aside, I say, until all the idiotic men have had their chance.
We don’t need you little ladies with your silly ideas about energy independence and cutting taxes and getting government out of the way. After all, where will we get the money to run these 57 states if we don’t tax the rich and give college students $40/hour for volunteer work?
Obama. The moron democrats deserve.

Posted by: w3bgrrl | December 5, 2008, 12:31 am 12:31 am

w3bgrrl,
No one said she has to be a genius. I’d like any woman running to at least not be an utter moron.
Hello, Obama made a mistake- he meant the caucus races. Biden just make a gaffe. But when you listen to them talk, they can disseminate the situations and give very intelligent argument.
Palin? She doesn’t know what she’s talking about and only knows how to spew talking points.
Newsflash, you don’t fight sexism by blaming every little thing on it!
We “Sexist” Democrats believe a woman should be allowed to choose what she should do with her body, sorry, unlike the GOP and Palin!

Posted by: Grey Matter | December 5, 2008, 12:32 am 12:32 am

“How many brains she has?” There is such a sense of snobbery among intelligentsia. These nitwits that couldn’t survive outside of the university environment all sit back and tut-tut anybody that can. Perhaps this is why I burnt my leather elbow patches in my twenties.

Posted by: Billy | December 5, 2008, 12:35 am 12:35 am

w3bgrrl,
If you insist on seizing on that, how about Palin not knowing that Africa was a continent, not a country?
Please, a woman like Hillary is far more qualified then Palin. Someone like Kay Bailey Hutchison, or Olympia Snowe- they may be GOP, but they ARE certainly far more qualified.
Yeah, a person who went to the Ivy League is an idiot and somebody who had to go to five universities to finally get a jounalism degree is somehow smarter.
And how is it Orwellian to pay college students for volunteer work? Have you been reading the news? Do you know how many people cannot afford to go to college? Why not volunteer work in exchange for college subsidies?

Well, Palin isn’t a genius according to IQ testing sites on the web. Some put her at 118, the same for OJ, but 2 points lower than Paris Hilton at 120. Since IQ tests lean heavily on the verbal, 118 looks pretty inflated.

Posted by: kat | December 5, 2008, 12:49 am 12:49 am

Well Kat. She is a very popular governor. I’m sure her “internet iq score” much higher than yours, Olbermans, and Matthews combined.

Sarah Palin will hold her own. I’m a proud member of Team Sarah and we will continue to grow and make our voices heard.
I have 2 degrees from an Ivy League School and believe me – the majority of students are over-educated idiots that I wouldn’t hire.
Keep under estimating Sarah Palin – it will make our future Victory that much more satisfying.
And Ed Rendell should talk – actually he talks all the time. He shows up at every free dinner anywhere – any time – he’s packing on pounds. And while he did a good job as Mayor of Philly, it’s still up in the air as to his success as GOV of PA and his public speaking is pretty darn rough.
Go SARAH.

Posted by: ILonaE | December 5, 2008, 1:55 am 1:55 am

Jim62sch – I hadn’t heard that Elaine Lafferty or Camille Paglia had commented on Sarah Palin’s memory or intellect. I have no idea how either of these women would know these things. Sarah Palin has said and done things that make me believe they are wrong, but maybe one can have a photographic memory, be a politician, and still not understand the constitution. Or maybe she is a genius but chose to “dumb down” because a sizable minority of the voting population of the U.S. distrusts and would not vote for a politician with an impressive intellect. However, if she said the things she said intentionally to look as ill-informed as she looked to appeal to anti-intellectual voters, I’d have even less respect for her than I do now. And, yes, she does worry me…after all, approximately 50% of voters in this country voted for W, twice.

Posted by: K | December 5, 2008, 1:59 am 1:59 am

Billy -Her popularity in Alaska has dropped precipitously. Maybe that’s because of factors like Troopergate, the incendiary manner of her campaigning for MCcain, and other factors which have brought down her popularity in the lower 48. Besides that, popularity or charisma and IQ scores aren’t correlated. I’d recommend that you try to sharpen your debate skills with the factual, rather than going off on angry tangents in an ideologue fashion.

Posted by: kat | December 5, 2008, 2:04 am 2:04 am

If Sarah would lose her anti-intellectualism and poseur-ish “folksiness antics” it would be better. I saw her gubernatorial debate. All those doggonits and betchas? She doesn’t even ACTUALLY talk like that.
And if she were to read more and stop labelling people good or bad- or the “real” and fake parts of America, and end the culture war, and stop playing on the whole “he’s not like us” and “Us vs Them” thing, this country would be an even better place.
Otherwise, as far as I’m concerned, I don’t want to see her anywhere near D.C.

Posted by: Grey Matter | December 5, 2008, 2:12 am 2:12 am

Grey Matter- I cold swear the anti-intellectualism is as authentic as her ruthlessness. No, I don’t want her anywhere near DC either, though I actually don’t find her formidable. If you take away the celebrity enhancement, she’s smaller than life. Her scariness lies in the societal forces she harnesses.

What is Rendell’s IQ?

Posted by: Gary Rosen | December 5, 2008, 3:06 am 3:06 am

kat,
I agree, she is an anti-intellectual. It’s just that she actually isn’t all that “folksy”, as how she tried to portray with her “doggonits” and “betchas” and winks. She didn’t know Africa was a continent. JOY.
Yes, she can play on people’s fears and the whole “real” America crap, and you know, the POTUS is Barack HUSSEIN(!) Obama. Whatever. Millions of people of Arab descent have the name Hussein, it’s just that one of them happened to become a vicious dictator.
Enough. Somebody needs to tell Sarah that she lost. Alaskans are getting annoyed- she has yet to step back in her office and go back to her job instead of parading around the lower 48.

It’s amazing how the Palin haters show up at every mention of her name.
Obsession is the word.
People are absolutely obsessed with her.
Sheesh…get a life.
I’m in Alaska now and I can tell you that even after all the bad press she would be easily elected to any office she chose to run for, and every politician here knows it.

Posted by: palmeranian | December 5, 2008, 3:23 am 3:23 am

Why is the left sooo frightened of lil’ old Sara? Perhaps they have seen the energy she beings as she works the large crowds that come to see her speak? I can assure you that she is well aware of all things Africa.
Biden is a total dunce. The Obama campaign stuffed him into a bunker for part of September and all of October in fear that he would have opened his mouth for more than one syllable. Personally, I would like to see him debate Cheney. If you want to talk debating skills, remember how our current Vice President handed the little John Edwards his hat in 04. Even Edwards could dance circles around that dunce Biden.
You all know that if it hadn’t been for Sara, McCain would have only gotten 40%. What kind of budget had “the former mayor’ successfully managed compared to our president elect? Get ready pseudo intellectuals. The actual smart folk are gonna come after you hard. With Nancy ‘Private Jet’ Pelosi and Harry “Don’t Like the Smell of the Common Folk” Reid to run against in 2010, you know where it will go. 2012 will be a cakewalk.

Sarah is hot, smart, sexy, and has had a remarkable career on her own merits and talent without riding on the coattails of her husband (unlike you know who).
She also has a successful marriage and a beautiful family. Small wonder she is hated by the whiners, losers, and double digit IQ types who parrot the smears about her intelligence.
Here’s hoping that Sarah gets a big bucks book deal and comes back in ’12 to send BO, the commie, back to “Stinkytown” aka Chicago where he belongs.

Posted by: jose goldfinger | December 5, 2008, 6:56 am 6:56 am

Grey Matter,
In reference to your use of the word, “disseminate,” you disseminate lies about Sarah Palin when you repeat the myth that she was not aware Africa is a continent.
Sarah Palin is not an utter moron.
What is true here is that in order to diminish her, you lie about her and call her a moron and ridicule her. But you excuse utterly moronic statements by Biden which demonstrate him to be a greasy salesman who says anything just to appear like he knows something. The FDR statement is one example. His bloviating on the middle east in the VP debates are another. His words to supporters about the world testing Obama within 6 months is another. The list goes on and on. The man is not only ill-informed, he can’t keep his mouth shut.
As Mark Twain said, “It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”
You and Joe Biden and even Obama with his Orwellian definition of volunteerism could meditate on the meaning of that awhile.

Posted by: w3bgrrl | December 5, 2008, 7:49 am 7:49 am

Billy, I agree utterly. Sara superficially hangs on the countenance of her energy of being without deliberate delegation of menial profundities. Once the pulchritude of monarchical plagiarisms suffices, the final collapse of the laity commences. Sara positively transforms her corporeal position to and fro repetitively.
Sarah, on the other hand, possesses also a fundament besieged by earth-toned proboscides following the laissez-faire false-folksiness plundered by the vacuous platitudes expounded by the epitome of the neo-illiterati never before witnessed by the body politic. The orbital occlusions as a result of voluntary spasmodic contractions peppering the offal also spewed forth brought projectile regurgitations of intellection. Also plaguing the seraph (Sarahph) of false piety is the want of neural wirings necessary for even moderately medial mental modulations. Hexagonal collegiate endeavors in a plethora of pentagonally matriculated timelines never impeded the elite, i.e. her betters. Unknowingly praised contumely by the basest of the base, Sarah’s pseudo-English rumblings were succored by the entirety of the multitudes entranced by her coat of arms procured at Bloomingdales. Thanks but no thanks my fundus.

Posted by: Norm Crosby | December 5, 2008, 7:53 am 7:53 am

Grey,
Your question answers itself if you understand the meaning of words. “How is it Orwellian to pay college students for volunteer work.”
Well, gee, because “volunteer work” is uncompensated.
So if you pay someone to do work it is not longer “volunteer work.” It is employment. And what will happen to all the work that needs to be done which does not compensate at a ridiculously over-inflated level of $40/hour? Do you think a college student is going to take a $12-15/hour job working around campus if he can work 100 hours at ACORN and earn $4,000?
Grey, since you value intelligence perhaps you should start taking a critical look at some of the policies Obama supports without being so emotional. When you support policies like paying $40/hour to college students for political action with arguments like, “do you know how many people can’t afford college????????” you are removing the intellect and inserting emotional propaganda into the debate.
I’m not sure if you realize how ironic you’re being by stating that you oppose someone because you believe her to be a moron and yet you argue in support of Obama’s $40/hour plan using pure emotion.
Funny, but sad at the same time.

Why are so many people intimidated by Sarah Palin including a lot of the posters here and Ed Rendell? The people of Alaska CHOSE her to be their governor and she has returned a rebate to each of them. Has any other governor sent rebates or has the approval rate that she has? Now to Mr. Rendell…she IS a govenor and this was a meeting of the governors of the USA, right? Duh?

Because she’s about an inch deep. She may have done fine in Alaska, but America needs some intelligent, thoughtful leadership for a change and Sarah doesn’t meet either of those requirements any more than my teenager would.
In case you hadn’t noticed what a disaster Bush has been, the last thing we need is another 5-watt bulb in Washington. Please run her for the GOP nomination in 2012, though!!

Geesh, these Democrats are getting as paranoid over Gov. Palin, as they were over GWB!
The Democrats should start investigating Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, as well as Schumer….leave Sarah alone, she has not harmed our economy like the above have!

Posted by: Bobc | December 5, 2008, 9:16 am 9:16 am

‘Libs are afraid of Sarah because she’s only an inch deep’.
Didn’t ya’ll just elect Barack Obama, 1st-Term US Senator, as President? Tell me his policy on… ANYTHING. And I can show you at least twice when he’s ‘nuanced’ it to suit a different audience.
And they talk about the incredible speeches Big-O gives. Or rather, reads. Yes, he’s got a great voice, but the contents of most of his speeches are pretty shallow. 2 parts change + 1 part hope + 1 part whatever the current audience wants to hear.

Sarah has qualities that can not be learned at Harvard. Liberals are both concerned about her and hopeful for her to be the GOP nominee in 2012. Concerned because she excites the people they hate. Hopeful because they see an easy target for demonization and mockery. She will get you my pretty.

Posted by: Anton | December 5, 2008, 9:29 am 9:29 am

Sarah Palin is so much more than the press and libs see through their biased political smokescreen. I’m middle of the road but try to see both sides so I can form an honest opinion for myself. The libs I love and have worked with for the most part live by their preconceived ideas of liberal bias. They watch the same tv, listen to the same politicians, read the same newspapers and usually don’t step out of their comfort zone to try to understand “the other side.” I honestly think the rest of us out there who are politically aware, do try to see both sides. Wish there were more of us.
Sarah Palin has potential, we’ll see how far she goes with it over time. But she is NOT stupid.

No one knows Obamas College, Law school grades, his SATs, etc. But everyone assumes he’s soooo intelligent because he reads a teleprompter well and spews warmed over Marxism

Posted by: JamesJ | December 5, 2008, 9:53 am 9:53 am

Palin will be a political leader in the national scene, and she has shown to be a smart and likable popular leader rather than a fraud like BHO. Media knows it and that is why they are after her.

Yeah James, Obama only graduated from Harvard magna cum laude. If he were truly intelligent he would have graduated summa cum laude. What a dope.

The MSM destroyed Palin???? I think she did a great job on her own. Just listen to her answers to questions like the ALaska budget. It was nothing more then sound bites. Not details, specifics, anything. I have never heard a answer from her that was anything but soundbites.
Now, listen to any of Obama’s answers over the last few weeks. Thoughtful, detailed, substanitive.
It is not even close or fair to compare the two. I thank Great God above for not allowing her to govern. I know by 2012, she will have failed her state badly because she is overmatched.

Posted by: Paul | December 5, 2008, 10:33 am 10:33 am

Other than a vague apprehension that we’ll look up and see her aiming at us from a helicoptor, I don’t know of any Liberals who are “afraid” of Sarah Palin.
What election results have you folks been looking at? She was so polarizing and inept that she scared the bejesus out of Independents and Moderate Republicans and helped Obama carry the suburbs.
Liberals would love to see Sarah Palin be the 2012 nominee.

Posted by: Brooklyn Democrat | December 5, 2008, 10:54 am 10:54 am

Sara Palin is only a failure in the minds of those silly liberals who fear a strong woman. It has nothing to do with her politics, except that it isn’t their failed politics.

Posted by: Banchee | December 5, 2008, 1:40 pm 1:40 pm

The more extreme conservatives like to lay the hyperbole thick on Sarah Palin because she validates the vision of their own power structure. Being an ideologue for an extremist agenda doesn’t make a strong woman, but a token one. Palin, as a woman empowered by regressive forces, reminds me of the character,Serena Joy, from the Handmaid’s Tale.

Matt Dooley writes, “Didn’t ya’ll just elect Barack Obama, 1st-Term US Senator, as President?”
================================
It’s this kind of silly rationale that led to Republican defeat and will ultimately lead to another one in four years. You have to be pretty dense to NOT KNOW about Obama’s tenure as a State Legistlator prior to becoming a United States Senator. You would have to be pretty ignorant to ignore his academic achievements and intelligence. Until Republicans can come up with someone to MATCH his intellect, they have ZERO chance of motivating Independents.

To Rendell spouting off into a hot mic: way to go, genius!

Posted by: Jean O'Neal | December 5, 2008, 3:16 pm 3:16 pm

Rendell is absolutely right. Sarah Palin is no genius. Just look at how she repeatedly mangles the pronunciation of English words:
PUN-dint = Pundit
NOO-kyoo-ler = Nuclear
VURB-ij = Verbiage
HEE-nee-us = Heinous
She incorrectly and repeatedly uses the word “progress” as a transitive verb:
“…take that in order to progress the message.”
“…we were the true change that would progress this nation.”
“…all of us are doing all that we can to progress this nation.”
“…move forward together, start progressing America.”
“…work in bipartisan manners in order to progress this nation.”
She strings words and phrases together into nonsensensical mish-mash:
“And I speak for other Republicans, other Republican governors also, they being willing also to, again, seize this opportunity that we have to progress this nation together, a united front.”
“Any of the chants of ‘Sarah’ or anything that maybe would look like maybe anything was Sarah-centric, is, on my part, I know that it is not me personally, that the cheers were for. It’s for, ‘Cool, we’ve got a woman on the ticket, we’ve got this manifestation of progress and change in America.’… But not me, personally, were those cheers for, but it was just for the representation of a woman on the ticket, a mom, somebody who loves this country so much, somebody very, very committed to policies that, I believe, will progress this country in the right direction.”
How can anyone possibly fault Rendell for saying Sarah Palin is no genius?

Posted by: WWW | December 5, 2008, 6:09 pm 6:09 pm

WWW- I can fault him, because he’s no genius either.
(And just because she doesn’t pronounce certain words the way you would, doesn’t make her stupid – it’s a regional thing).

Posted by: ellsbells930 | December 5, 2008, 8:35 pm 8:35 pm

I am so tired of hearing the phrase “liberals who dislike Palin are afraid of strong women”! Look, I’m an independent progressive who favors Democratic candidates. I suppose by those criteria I qualify as a liberal. Whatever. I was raised by a very strong woman who also happens to be both an attorney AND a conservative Republican. She dislikes Sarah Palin even more than I do. For those conservatives who think Sarah Palin is a “shoe-in” for 2012, you’d better think again. It just ain’t gonna happen. You’d be better off moving up to Alaska and hailing her as your governor (but that probably won’t be the case after 2010 – she’s no longer “America’s popular governor” and has a lot of Alaskans ready to impeach/recall . . . ).

ellsbells930 wrote, “And just because she doesn’t pronounce certain words the way you would, doesn’t make her stupid – it’s a regional thing”
Dropping G’s and saying “you betcha” could be considered a regional thing, but the only region in which you would hear “pundint” and “heeneeus” is in Stupidville. Stop making excuses for Sarah Palin’s unadulterated ignorance of her native tongue.

Posted by: WWW | December 5, 2008, 11:48 pm 11:48 pm

Whomever keeps saying “just because she doesn’t pronounce things just the way you do… it’s a regional thing.” Excuse me?
I went to school in Alaska AND I’ve lived in Idaho. I have NEVER heard a native Idahoan nor an Alaskan speak with an accent like hers.
Poor grammar is poor grammar. A college education is supposed to overcome some bad habits of “regional mistakes.”
A college grad with a degree in journalism should have a better grasp on proper pronunciation and grammar than Palin exhibits, regardless of where she is from.
I don’t think she is stupid; I think she’s bright. But regardless of all that is reported by her supporters and childhood buddies, she shows signs of being intellectually lazy… and thus what we see is not stupidity, but acquired ignorance.
Not keeping up on world events isn’t a sin. But what is truly horrifying in her case isn’t just that she doesn’t know things. It’s that a) she does not appear to know she doesn’t know these things, and b) she’s bellicose that she does know everything about the things that, in reality, she doesn’t know much beyond pageant answers for.
Her ignorance is not simply a cute regional dialect.

WWW – I suppose you have NEVER mis-pronounced any word in your entire life? It must be nice to be perfect. But I still say that mispronouncing words is not a sign of how intelligent people are. So a person who has a lisp is stupid? Or stutters? Or has problems with certain letters? My daughter can’t pronounce words correctly that have both an ‘r’ and and ‘s’ in them because of the shape of palate- but she is VERY smart. I’m just sick of the arrogance of people who act like they are so perfect & that any little error by someone they have decided not to like is caused by stupidity. Mr. Obama has his share of speech issues too. I’ve noticed he has a habit of dropping the ends off of words too. But it IS a habit, not a sign of his intelligence or lack thereof.

Posted by: ellsbells930 | December 6, 2008, 8:00 am 8:00 am

Isn’t part of the attraction that Sarah Palin is “just like us”? Palin is normal, average – she’s the extraordinary girl next door. Palin has never pretended to be an intellectual heavyweight.
The intelligence comments are not about Palin’s accent – they are about Palin’s ability to think — Her ability to understand the problems, to invent the solutions, and to debate the theories.
Some people are a lot smarter than other people. But so what? Why is everybody so angry about that? Did you really not know that your doctor and your lawyer and your philosophy teacher were smarter than you?
I heard someone say that Americans are not angry when someone has more money, but they get very angry when someone has more intelligence. I was really mad at that guy, but you people have proved him right.

ellsbells930,
Now you dare to compare people with lisps, stutters and physical impairments to a woman who mispronounces her words out of sheer ignorance.
These are not “little errors” that Sarah Palin makes. A high-level politician needs superior communication skills. Imagine a foreign leader trying to sift through this pile of Palinese slop:
“Any of the chants of ‘Sarah’ or anything that maybe would look like maybe anything was Sarah-centric, is, on my part, I know that it is not me personally, that the cheers were for. It’s for, ‘Cool, we’ve got a woman on the ticket, we’ve got this manifestation of progress and change in America.’… But not me, personally, were those cheers for, but it was just for the representation of a woman on the ticket, a mom, somebody who loves this country so much, somebody very, very committed to policies that, I believe, will progress this country in the right direction.”

I beg to differ..Sarah palin IS a moron. To say she is no genius is an understatement. Most, and I mean MOSt Americans think shes an idiot, and no matter how much Republicans and conservatives try to pretty it up, she keeps proving it day after day (Gobble Gobble, kill the turkeys while I give an interview). In fact, most Americans DONT want someone just like us, we want smarter, and shes not it. I am amazed that anyone with a serious mind even gives her a second thought. Make Sarah Palin the Republican standard bearer, and Republicans will be out of power for a generation or more. We picked one stupid Republican, and wont be fooled again. the point is, saying its so, and it being so, are no longer the same. We wont be putting lipstick on this pig

There’s no need to tear Sarah Palin down. She falls to pieces all by herself just by opening her mouth.

Posted by: Rudy | December 7, 2008, 2:38 pm 2:38 pm

More of Sarah Palin’s high fashion campaign bills are coming to light. The total is now up to $338,000. That’s $173,000 for clothes and accessories and $165,000 for the three stylists who pomped and circumstanced her. (I can “progress” the English language too.)
Palin, who once denied the $150,000 figure now says she “had no idea taxpayer money was being spent in this way.” Whadda genius.

Posted by: WWW | December 7, 2008, 5:40 pm 5:40 pm

It took Sarah Palin less than 3 seconds to come from a curtain to a podium. 3 seconds for people to yell, scream for joy and cry, as though she was moses coming out of the mount with the tabloids. For a total of 5 minutes the roar and applause was so loud all she could do was wave and say “thankyou” As a women and a career executive for 36 years at a telecom fortune 500 company I was offended that people could make their mind up in 3 seconds, with out hearing anything else but “thankyou”

I am a moderate whom basically votes democrat. I don’t fear Sarah Palin or any candidate. bush finally woke up the population to this I’m not very intelligent but we could share a beer together & ignore reality type. Face it, Sarah’s no braniac. She charms people & has the salesmanship to sell ice to Eskimos (no offense Eskimos). It’s gotten her a long way but leading the USA & representing us to the world is a bad movie we’ve all just watched. If the hard right want her to represent them & believe she’s their most qualified candidate, then I say “Go For It”. Also, if you want to compare gaffes or embarrasing moments. Lets bring up Sarahs’ interviews, her expense sheet, her scandals, McCains’ senior slips, THEIR pastors, & don’t get me started on bush, etc. etc. etc. Dwelling on the 57 state slip is very desperate. Graduated from Harvard (with honors) ends any doubt about Obamas’ record or intelligence level. Weigh out the pros & cons & that’s why she’s back in Wasilla. Oh & to maybe work on the values, in her own home, that she would like to impose on everybody else, whether she lives by them or not.
