NBC News Chief: Matthews Not Running (I Don’t Think)

ABC News’ Rick Klein Reports: A denial — through less than a rock-solid one — from NBC News President Steve Capus, on whether Chris Matthews is running for the Senate. The "Hardball" host has been widely rumored to be mulling a 2010 run for the Democratic Senate nomination in his native Pennsylvania. This from an interview Capus gave to Broadcasting & Cable (where he goes along with a joke about adding Iraqi journalist/shoe-thrower Muntadar al-Zaidi to the payroll, suggesting that "Hardball" could be a broadcasting home for him). Q: "Right, Mr. Zaidi could take over for Chris when Chris goes off to run for office." A: "[Chris Matthews] is not running for office." Q: "He’s not?" A: "I don’t think so. Well, look, if he were running for office, he wouldn’t be on TV." (h/t Josh Kraushaar of Politico)

FM: The public would gain more if NBC fired him. He has a big mouth and a small head. He is the worst of the lot. He belittled Hillary and McCain and gave all the attention to Obama. He doesn’t belong on the network. I stopped watching MSNBC because of him and his bad attitude. Lonnette is right. I would love to see him lose also. What would it gain us? A celebration and a big one.

Please don’t wish for him to run & lose…. that means that if he runs, he would have the opportunity to win and then, we in PA would be stuck with him.
