Obama Daughters Say Goodbye to Their Chicago School
EmailABC NEWS’ SUNLEN MILLER REPORTS:
In what is the first of many goodbyes for the Obamas in Chicago, the future first family this morning attended a party in their daughters’ honor on their last day of school in Chicago.
Today was the last day of school at the University of Chicago Laboratory School before the students are released for the holidays. But for two students, Malia Obama, 10, and Sasha, 7, their impending move to Washington DC means today was their last day at that school permanently.
The Obama’s spent about 90 minutes inside the school for what a transition aide described as a “party for the Obama girls to celebrate their last day at the school.”
Malia and Sasha are set to start school at Sidwell Friends in Washington, DC on January 5th of the new year.

C’mon even you die hard O and O fans have to admit something seems to be rotten in Denmark (as they say) first we have the rumors of the tiff between Michelle and Oprah, then Oprah being kept away from O, then Oprah says she has been depressed (and she has WHAT to be depressed about)and fell off the health bandwagon and has been eating like a horse and now weighs 200 lbs, now she is buying a home in DC…..either she is delusional (which is possible) or something is going on.

Why? It’s a K-12 school, isn’t it? Maybe the older one will be done with high school IF Obama is in for eight years, but otherwise, they’ll both still qualify for that school when the Family returns to Chicago, as he’s said he would.

The girls should have gone to a public school rather than the elitist academy Obama is sending them to. If Obama really is the man of the people he claims to be, a public school for his children would have been a good way of proving it. I’m disliking Obama more and more each day that passes. I’m regretting that I voted for him. He’s Bush Lite if you ask me.

One more reason Obama should NOT have run for President this year, his young daughters. They need their father. Obama, being raised without a father himself, should have raised his children BEFORE running for President. Bush, for all the things he got wrong, did time his run for Presidency perfectly, just as his daughters were going off to college.
Obama is wrong to choose Rick Warren.
Warren is a nut. Obama made a poor choice. Choosing Rick Warren is a direct stick in the eye to major groups of his voting block, gays, lesbians and ALL women. It’s insulting to say the least.
There is no defense for the indefensible.
Obama should apologize, yank the Warren choice and choose from the thousands of OTHER pastors & priests available who would NOT insult the nation.

Women should comprise the majority of cabinet appointments to reflect the face of the nation.

Why is everyone judging Obama before he even starts his job? I’m sure we all know that he consults/vets with this people before confirming their appointments. Obama is the leader, sets the vision and the cabinet has to uphold and if not they are out or if thats not what they stand for they will say no. So, all you judges and haters, hold on your horses. See how this intelligent son of Africa shows you how to run the show. America is going back to her ideal, giving everyone opportunities. That’s the America we know. However, its not gonna be easy for him to balance the scale but he will get there. This is why you do not see a lot of Africa Americans bracing his cabinet, he understands that ruling by appeasement is not the way. Give a vision and then sit back to oversee the deployment of that vision. That will be his main task. We know his vision and we voted for it. So come Jan 20, everyone will get to work.

Buzzie, there is no way those girls should attend public school, their safety is at stake, and they have always attended private schools. They are going through enough upheval why push more upon them just to make a political point? I am not at big Obama supporter I voted for Hillary in the primaries and reluctantly for Obama in the general, but I do not fault him one bit for sending his kids to a private school. Sending his kids to a private school does not mean he doesn t want to fix public schools. These kids need to be around people who live the same life they are.

Hello GMA,
Thanks for such excellent coverage of stories. I watch you mostly every morning and enjoy all of the fun and serious stories shared on this airway. However, this past Friday, I was not so happy after hearing the report that President Bush and his family will occupy Blair house, and the Obama’s may not move in until after January 15, 2008!
It seems the Bush’s schedule of events at the Blair house is a “covert” way of stating “we” will hold on until the last possible moment when we must vacate and leave! Can their parties and events be so much more important than two little girls getting settled in and beginning their new lives at a new school, new friends, and new environment. Maybe President Bush is entitled to the use of Blair house until January 15th! Well, how about out of courtesy, he and Laura leave or considered leaving before January 5 when the girls will be staring school, and to let the Obama’s take their rightful place at this residence for the girls’ sake, and out of courtesy?

YOULANDER…alot of parents have the same thing happen to them everyday.Most of them are in the service to our country.The parent gets orders to another base and rather than pull the kids out of school in mid season they opt to let them finish the year out. If you had your way you’d have the Bushs’ out of the White House last month. Obama will get his turn at President on Jan. 20th and they don’t deserve any special treatment just because you say so. Whats wrong with the apartment Barry has in DC? Cant they hang for 5 days till they recieve all the entitlements of office? Of course it will need dusting because it hasnt been used by Barry in 2+ years. Don’t you just love professional politicans? You may….I don’t!!

It really is sad at some of the negative posts on here by both the right wingers & the Hillary supporters – aren’t you dems too by the way?
Anyway, the Obama’s asked about the availability of Blair house because of the early registration of the girls. I am just saddened at the negative remarks regarding the children when it will be so nice to have kids in the White House again.
Also, regarding Sidwell – Obama will not be the first President to send his child / children there so zip it. There are security factors for a President’s kids that must be factored. Grow up folks. Have a great day :).

I don’t understand why everyone is so upset about the Obama’s not being able to stay at the Blair house. First of all the place was previously reserved for someon else. Wouldn’t that be rude to push THOSE people our?? I am not saying they asked for that, what I have read did not lead me to think that. They just asked and it was taken, no big deal. Secondly, this family can afford a suite at the Hilton or Ritz Carlton. Much better digs than most of us live in on a daily basis. They will also be provided with transportation so that will not put anyone out as far as parking or paying to park. So what is the big deal. I think the public and reporters are making a bigger issue out of this than the Obama’s or the Bushe’s.

As I read over some of these comments I realized that ignorance is alive and well. President Elect Obama acted on behalf of the safety of his children by enrolling them in a private school. This man has received hundreds of death threats by people who hate him simply because of his color. Do you think these racists would try to harm him or his children ? Of course they would!!
