Obama Team Hawks Obama-Themed Stocking Stuffers, Health Care Conversation

Last week the Obama Transition Team’s Health Policy Team solicited ideas from voters on revamping the health care industry.

In this video to supporters released this afternoon, Health Policy Team members Lauren Aronson and Tom Daschle — President-elect Obama’s nominee to be Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services — thank the 3,500 participants and discuss some of their ideas, including creating a "Health Corps," like the Peace Corps except for health professionals, and a push towards a "paradigm shift" that emphasizes preventative care. The Obama campaign, meanwhile, is simultaneously hocking an Obama Holiday Fleece to benefit the DNC. Orders by December 15 are guaranteed to arrive before Xmas! And yes, in the name of party unity, it does come in a Woman’s XXL. — jpt

Don’t you mean Hawking?

“…in the name of party unity, it does come in a Woman’s XXL.”
What in the name of anything ANYONE ever considered holy is that supposed to mean?? Are they SERIOUSLY saying that NO female Obama-follower is that large?!
I wouldn’t take one of those portable billboards if they gave them away. And this is one health professional of 25 years that will NOT be part of Der Corps. I’ll shred my license if they force it. And I believe he’ll try.
…Just when I was putting away all my soap-boxes, he had to go do this. XXL as an anomaly indeed. I suppose his Size Medium for women is a 2.

Awww see in a few years they won’t need that woman’s XXL, because preventive health will cure obesity!

“paradigm shift to preventive care”…. isn’t that what HMO’s were supposed to do? The government needs to get out of the healthcare business. We are in the mess we are today, because the government created Medicare.

AND why are these two saying that they were JUST NOW getting a suggestion about “forming a Health Corps”? (Forced myself to watch this rah rah drivel). The plan for that was ALL OVER Obama’s website during the campaign! People apparently have very short memories, especially the veiled inference that “volunteering” was expected. And his later announcement that a list/registration of health care professionals was being drawn up for a “call-up” (conscription) at “need.” Is it supposed to be more palatable to be “volunteered” for this if it came from “one of us”?
I really wish I hadn’t watched that video…very poor acting in being delighted and surprised by the wonderful suggestions that Obama already had laid out a looooong time ago.

Cynic,
and what is it that made you believe that an ex-Senator would take time to “act” for you? Thank you for taking time to make me laugh. If you find the videos so unpleasant, you can make a point of not watching them in the future. Whether I like the ideas they are discussing or not, I like the fact that they are sharing something, anything with us about their work. They are certainly not obligated to do so.
About the jackets, I am tired of That One always trying to take my money. To think he was ever accused of communism. But no, Obama, you will not be getting a cent out of me so you might as well stop those emails, although I do applaud his [team's] business sense.

maybe we should take some pointers from other SOCIALIST countries on what works and what dosent. giving the federal government control of our health care. think about that for a second.. the same government that has lost and continues to lose TRILLIONS of dollars on welfare, medicaid and medicare. hmmm, social security… should i keep going? put partisan politics aside, no democrat no republican. DOES THIS REALLY SOUND LIKE A GOOD IDEA? what program has the government ever run that works nd makes sense? AMERICA IS DOOMED.

Question,
You’re quite welcome. And that was the one and only Obamavideo I’ve watched, because it affects me. I’m selfish that way. He wasn’t acting for me, he was acting for the “supporters” mentioned. And Senators should be waaaaay better at acting than that. Maybe that’s why he’s an ex? I don’t know, I don’t even know who he is. Don’t care, either.
And those plans were already laid out, nothing new to share.

The fleece jacket comes in a XXXL for men, but is limited to XXL for women. I’d call that a disparity, rather than a parity.

A bunch of inept corrupt bureaucrats handling the nations health care system. The same bunch who haven’t managed ANYTHING SUCCESSFULLY what a joke.

Our food is nutrient-free, genetically-modified, color-filled, pesticide-laden, processed to the hilt junk. In addition the massive consumption of soft drinks is one of the main drivers of obesity. All of this garbage makes us sick, but the drug companies love it because they get to push their products. It has occurred to me that there really is no point fixing the health care system. By 2030 the massive entitlement tsunami that is social security, medicare and medicaid will swamp us. You think we are broke now! I think it is pretty much to late to fix this problem in light of the stupidity of the masses. Ron Paul in 2012!

Maybe we need to move out some of the lawyers in DC and replace them with doctors, engineers, and scientists. Maybe some good non-corrupted ideas would take root.

Preventive care? What a novel concept. It’s practically obscene that it hasn’t been the focus of the health care system ab initio. Actually it was, but then moneyed interests interceded.

Health of the nation can be restored by spending minimally and on the sick and mostly to keep people healthy. The Obama administration should spend more keeping people healthy by supporting certain childhood vaccines and certain adult vaccines. Not covering sexually transmitted diseases as a deterrent to motivate people to modify sexual behavior and take protective measures. Promote weight control and stop smoking and drug and alcohol abuse. Emphasis should be on translating the findings of science to prevent both communicable and non communicable diseases. Like regular insurance there should be limits of available health care, placed on how much is provided per patient. A person with several conditions receives the same level of medical care as a person trying to stay healthy. Patients not adhering to certain healthy living guidelines to be developed by the DHHS should be penalized. The budget for healthcare cannot be bottomless.

gjkotw01, “Patients not adhering to certain healthy living guidelines to be developed by the DHHS should be penalized.”
Developed by whom? Bureaucrats? Following the latest fads?
Must be nice to be one of the perfect.
Don’t worry, that’s exactly what Obama’s planning. Perfect people in perfect lockstep.
And exposing imperfects…not talking about public exposure, either. Slippery slope ahead.

Hey laughing cynic, I am not perfect and don’t have perfect genes, but I am doing everything scientifically possible not to get sick and I have given up a lot to stay healthy and stay fit and I don’t think that is too much to expect from every citizen who should ask not what the country can do for their health but ask what they can do for themselves to stay healthy and incur less healthcare cost and save the tax payers from the sky rocketing health care costs.

…cannot resist….
These fleeces ARE made in the USA, right?

Posted by: Laughing Cynic | December 2, 2008, 9:43 pm 9:43 pm

gjkotw01, I work every day with people who didn’t take care of themselves, and people who got a bad roll of the genes die. Take away or limit health care to someone who smoked twenty years ago and has diabetes that’s poorly controlled, and it’s really easy to move on to take away health care from someone whose bones are crumbling inside them, in constant pain, but going to probably live another 20 years — as an active member of his/her community, not an invalid, IF pain is controlled and support is there.
Take away treatment for someone with lung cancer, and it’s not so hard to limit care to a pediatric leukemia patient.
The sick and weak weeded out. Something a lot of people “joke about,” or are serious about, but not a society I want to live in.
Who will make the decisions?
That’s why I get nuts. So, you honestly do have my apologies, I targeted you directly. Good for you in keeping your health. But a lot of it is out of our control.
We are a pendulum country, swinging wildly from one extreme to its opposite. Start this and it will not end well. And I do not want some committee telling me how to live.

It’s “hawking,” not “hocking.” The former is the word for selling something and the latter is the word for pawning something.

Paradigm shift from capitalism to massive state sponsored social programs… Socialism is coming to American under the guise of removing an imperialistic leader/regime. Simply precious.
If everyone buys a jacket, will we have the domestic army uniform? I guess there is more than one way to fleece Americans.

Roxie- I’ve never seen a fleece jacket the object of such imaginatively expressed fears.

LOL….ok, ABC…Let me see if I can word it more to your satisfaction….
After all the money Mr Obama raised, NOW he thinks the people of this country should open up their wallets more to give to the DNC??????
A lot of nerve…Remember that little issue called the “Current Economic Crisis”
Chalk this one right up there with the Big # auto makers showing up in those private jets!!!!

Funny thing: when the stock market went UP, following Obama’s appointment of Geithner, it was big “news”. When the OPPOSITE happened after the announcement of Tom Daschle, it wasn’t “news.”
When the whole economy crashed, about two minutes after the announcement of Obama’s official embrace of Robert Gates et al. as his “security team” … it’s not “news”. Go figure.
If The One doesn’t announce National Health the minute after he’s sworn in, might as well go for a General Strike.

SURELY what is meant is “hawking”, as in Jeremy Scahill’s piece from yesterday or so, “Barack Obama’s Kettle of Hawks”.
“Hocking” suggests selling something that can be bought BACK. Would that the Democratic nomination, and the “election”, could be bought back from the right-lite.
Black-and-blue FLEECE is particularly appropriate for bait-and-switch Obama.
