Presenting Himself as the Anti-Blagojevich, PEBO Repeats Call for Governor to Resign, Says More Information to Come
President-elect Obama today reiterated his call for disgraced Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich to resign, and said he would soon inform the public of information about contacts between his office and that of the governor, who was allegedly caught on FBI surveillance discussing his efforts to sell Mr. Obama’s Senate seat to the highest bidder.
Mr. Obama did not rule out that officials on his Transition Team had held discussions with the governor’s office about the matter, nor did he deny that any of them knew about the governor’s attempted deal-making, though he said he was "confident" no one on his team would have ever agreed to such a proposition.
The president-elect also did not rule out that federal officials had spoken with any member of his team about the matter.
"I was as appalled as anyone by the revelations earlier this week," said the President-elect in a morning press conference. "I have never spoken with the Governor on this subject. And I am quite confident that no representatives of mine would have had any part in any deals related to this seat."
The language the President-elect used was careful. He didn’t say there had been no contacts or that no one on his staff was aware that Blagojevich was allegedly trying to make an exchange where Blagojevich secured a lucrative job for himself or his wife in exchange for his appointing Mr. Obama’s preferred candidate, friend and adviser Valerie Jarrett, to take his place in the U.S. Senate.
Rather, Mr. Obama said no one would have had any part of a deal. More information would follow, he said.
"I have asked my team to gather the facts of any contacts with the Governor’s staff about this vacancy so we can share them with you," Mr. Obama said. "And we will do that in the next few days."
The president-elect had called the press conference to introduce his nominee to be Secretary of Health and Human Services, former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-SD, who will also serve as director of the White House Office of Health Reform. University of Texas professor Dr. Jeanne Lambrew will serve as his White House deputy.
Following brief remarks by Mr. Daschle, Mr. Obama took some questions, all but one of which were about Blagojevich.
Asked why he didn’t repeat in person the call for Mr. Blagojevich to resign — a call that his spokesman, incoming White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, made on his behalf in a paper statement yesterday — the President-elect did so.
"Let me be absolutely clear: I do not think that the governor at this point can effectively serve the people of Illinois," Mr. Obama said. "I hope that the governor himself comes to the conclusion that he can no longer effectively serve and that he does resign."
Mr. Obama framed that call within the context of how Illinois is home to politicians who are in it for both the wrong and the right reasons, underlining that he belongs to the latter group.
The Land of Lincoln has "a tradition of public service, where people are getting in it for the right reasons and to serve, but there’s also a tradition where people view politics as a business," Mr. Obama said. "And part of the reason that I got into politics, ran for the State Senate, ran for the United States Senate, and ultimately ran for the presidency is because we have to reclaim a tradition of public service that is about people and their lives, and their hopes, and their dreams. And it isn’t about ‘what’s in it for me?’"
Pressed again for information about contacts between his team and Blagojevich’s, Mr. Obama stated once again that he "had no contact with the governor’s office. I did not speak to the governor about these issues. That I know for certain."
What he was less certain about, he seemed to imply, was the role possibly played by others in discussions with the governor’s office. Mr. Obama reiterated that he would "gather all the facts about any staff contacts that..may have taken place between the transition office and the governor’s office. And we’ll have those in the next few days, and we’ll present them. But what I’m absolutely certain about is that our office had no involvement in any deal-making around my Senate seat. That I’m absolutely certain of….That would be a violation of everything that this campaign has been about. And that’s not how we do business."
Asked if he or his staff had been contacted by law enforcement, the President-elect said, "I have not been contacted by any federal officials. And we have not been interviewed by them. As is reflected in the U.S. Attorney’s report, we were not, I think, perceived by the governor’s office as amenable to any deal-making….Beyond that, I’m not really certain where the investigation is going forward. I’ll leave Mr. Fitzgerald to address those issues," he said, referring to U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald.
But when the President-elect was asked why Blagojevich would perceive his team as not amenable, he avoided addressing whether anyone on his staff had rejected Blagojevich’s proposals outright.
"I can’t presume to know what was in the mind of the governor during this process, so I won’t even speculate on that," he said. "All I can do is read what was in the transcripts, like the rest of you have read it, and shake my head."
Referring to the governor’s many epithets about him — which included a coarse Oedipal term — Mr. Obama joked, "I won’t quote back some of the things that were said about me….This is a family program, I know."
Mr. Obama presented himself as the anti-Blagojevich, heralding the state’s "extraordinary traditions of public service" which he said co-existed with "habits and a culture that thinks of politics as a means of self-aggrandizement. That’s exactly what has to change."
The charges against Blagojevich represent "the far end of the spectrum of that business mentality of politics, but there are more subtle examples of it…within the lines of legality but still don’t fulfill the spirit of service." Mr. Obama cited the "disproportionate influence" of Washington, D.C., lobbyists and other politicians "in state houses and city councils all across America" who aren’t focused on "what’s best for the public good but rather (are) making narrow political calculations."
"Our whole campaign was about changing that view of politics," Mr. Obama said. "It turns out that the American people are hungry for that. And you can get elected by playing it straight. You can get elected by doing the right thing. That’s what I hope we have modeled in this campaign. And that’s what I intend to model in my administration."

How much of this crap does the “Obama” organization think is gonna wash, even within the wholly-owned MSM, which seems at last to be waxing curious?
“Doing it right”? Doing it right WING, maybe. BO oughtta give the nomination BACK, and have new elections, with paper ballots, all around.

People bought Obama with their small money, not the other way around. Obama is not nearly rich enough for that.
Jake,

Concerned in OH – where was your concern when Tom DeLay was accused of ethics violations and money laundering, and then was indicted on charges of conspiring to commit campaign finance fraud and consequently resigned from Congress in disgrace, and President Bush publicly denounced and rejected DeLay — a fellow Texan. Oh wait. President Bush didn’t denounce DeLay at all. In fact…Bush Expressed a Belief in DeLay’s Innocence, Bush Said DeLay Is Not Guilty of Money Laundering,
Bush Declared DeLay Innocent, and, of all things, Bush Gave DeLay a Lift in Air Force One to Show Support. Read that again. Not only did Bush not denounce and reject the corrupt Republican leader, but DeLay was literally rewarded with a free ride aboard Air Force One — both men wantonly tainting each other aboard the presidential aircraft. Contrastingly, Obama can’t even live in the same state as Blagojevich without having to repeatedly denounce the governor’s crimes and stupidity. And even when he denounces and rejects Blagojevich, he’s still defined as tainted. Oh, and Jake, you’re a part of this smear — shame on you.

If the Governor and his wife decide to sing for Fitzpatrick Obama could be finally included in this web of corruption……

I understand it very well. Obama preferred that the Gov. to pick a certain person. The Gov. said, “what are you willing to give?”. Obama said, “Appreciation”. Hence, your quoted statement. The Gov. was pissed he did not get anything.
NO, I doubt Obama was stupid enough to participate. But, he sure as hell DID NOT come out and say anything or try to stop it.

That is assumption that Blag specifically ask for a proposition….. Electorally, the “Obama” machine KNOWS how to buy/bamboozle a candidate into something as simple, compared to the presidency, as a Senate seat.
More importantly, if B’vich could be hustled off the stage as a crazed criminal in need of rehab, he could be isolated, the thinking probably goes, from any opportunities to rat out the “Obama” organization.

I’m not sayingObama bears any guilt in this pay to play matter. I will say Obama has lied to the American public unless news reporters in Chicago lied on Sept. 9, ’08. It was reported in the AM news that Obama was meeting with Gov B that day to discuss his soon to be vacant senate set. The PM news confirmed they had met that day for that purpose. How can Obama now say he’s never discussed the matter with Gov B?

To my fellow pragmatic Americans, don’t fret over these few neo-con republicans who will stop at nothing short of shouting “bloody murder” to bring down PEBO. They are a dying breed and are just as irrelevant as Palin or Bachmann – no one from the strong majority listens to the talking points they learned from Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage, etc. At this point, it’s pure entertainment listening to their delusional rants, which only fires up other people who share their views.
And keep in mind that NOT all Republicans out there think the way they do (ie, “Blago lives in the same state? Call for Obama’s resignation now!!”) so don’t generalize the whole party from the minority of divisive, birth-certificate-obsessed, Bush lovin, WMD searchin, myopic tools. They are a lot of us republicans who engage in spirited debates with respect for ALL Americans and our divergent views. So far, Obama has exceeded my expectations (who would’ve thought Gates would be kept on!) and I for one think linking him to Blago is just as feeble as the ones made of him with Ayers during the election. Get over it already.

Obama talks about service and sacrifice. Did he sacrifice his career to fight all the corruption in Chicago. Corruption has been going on for decades here in Chicago and Obama did what? He cuddled up to Emil Jones and Blago and everyone he could find to move up. Honor? Sacrifice? Service? What a serious joke.

@MM,
As stated above in this article:
“Mr. Obama did not rule out that officials on his Transition Team had held discussions with the governor’s office about the matter, nor did he deny that any of them knew about the governor’s attempted deal-making, though he said he was “confident” no one on his team would have ever agreed to such a proposition.”
IF PEBO or any of his TEAM knew of this “attempted deal-making” and DID NOTHING, then they are just as guilty.
I am sorry, I got a feeling they did know.

It would be ludicrous to think that the selection of Obama’s senatorial replacement would not be of some interest to Obama and his team.
For heaven’s sake – stop making this sound suspect.
Rather focus on the Governor who given his illusions of grandeur makes him seem very, very unstable.
He should resign and be prosecuted if he has broken any laws.
End of story – more important issues facing our nation – wars, poverty, unemployment, etc.
The media needs to get a grip. They are like hyperactive children – flitting from one place to the next. With 24/7 news there is too much time and space to fill.
This is an important story – for the Govenor not for Obama.

I agree with the basic Chicagoan philosophy, that there is nothing wrong with “a little influence peddling, rewarding of political friends and co-opting of political foes”, that’s politics and practiced universally.
But Gov. Rod Blagojevich has taken this practice to a whole new level; it reminds me of the “Wall Street Hedge fund” brokers – “welcome to the world of greed, deception, power, influence over others and envy, the world of “total disregard for morality and humility.”
“I’m sure that he (Blagojevich) was filled with hateful envy as well, envy that former U.S. Senator Barack from his State was elected as President, “as if Barack Obama personally owed him a stake in his success?”, “Blago, was probably thinking damn, I should be able to do the same in 2016…!” I heard his explicit wire-taped comments on ABC’s Nightline last night and I’m utterly outraged.
Blagojevich’s recent actions are comparable to that of a “hood-gangster” off the streets, he will do anything to achieve his own political and financial success, willing to “steam role” anyone who may get in his way!
Personally, I always have admired straightforwardness and truthfulness, but come on, in the world of politics this may be asking for a bit too much, don’t you think?
Gov. Blagojevich, should welcome the opportunity to resign, it’s either resigning voluntarily or “impeachment.” Several weeks ago we had the Sen. Ted Stevens’ financial scandal and payoffs, all for wanting personal financial gain – this is what I call sheer greed and I would suspect that Gov. Sarah Palin was just drooling for an opportunity with that open Senate seat in Alaska? Now today, we have the Gov. Blagojevich used car salesman style, attempting to sell the “golden” Senate seat to the highest bidder…!?
What will we have next week?
Is this a sign of the financial austere times we live in?

Wow, the right-wing is sure spewing here.
The fact that Obama’s people offered only appreciation if Blago put their senatorial choice forward, didn’t mean they were aware Blago wanted money. Sheesh, haven’t any of you watched criminals in the movies? They don’t actually ask outright, they very vaguely hint, so they won’t get in trouble if the other party is honest and/or taping the conversation. Apparently Blago blabbed when he was confident about the people he was talking to and those people weren’t Obama’s people. Thank goodness this crooked politician will be in court soon.
And to all those Obama bashers, can you possibly hold off your unwarranted criticism, until Obama has actually been sworn in. It makes you look more than a little bit silly. In the meantime take a good hard look at the guy in charge right now, Bush.

Don’t be surprised if it was Obama’s people that reported this scheme to the Senate leaders or the Justice Department. Give it time and see where it all leads. Obama’s people obviously would not make any deals (the transcripts prove that). So, if they knew of the sale then they knew their candidate didn’t stand a chance. So, their recourse would have been to notify the proper authorities, thus giving their person a shot at the seat.

There might be simply the corruption of others and digital artistry afoot.

It is a tasteless class act for a leader of the free World to say anything at all about it yet.

MM, Some might agree with your characterization of Obama’s strong-arm legal tactics as ok, others might question whether it was ethical or in the public’s best interests. Nobody has condoned anything the Governor is alleged to have done, but he should be treated like other folks. Obama seems to have a double-standard in calling for his resignation. When Mayor Kilpatrick was accused of a crime, Obama campaigned in his city and publically called him a ‘great mayor’ and did not insist that Kwame resign. Every American has the constitutional right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, no matter what evidence was supposedly leaked and published.

Think about this logically. At what point was Blago in a position to name a Senator? After Nov. 4 when Obama was elected. The Feds have been recording Blago since October. They bugged his house, his office, and tapped his phone. So since before Blago even had an opportunity to name a Senator, they have been recording him. Yet Pat Fitzgerald says there is NOTHING connecting Obama to this. Couple this with the fact that Blago and Obama despise each other. They are allied with different factions of the Dem party in Illinois. Blago had no role at the convention. He was snubbed at Dem. Day at the State Fair when no other Dems. showed up for him. Blago has been under suspicion for years. His approval rating has been 13% even before all this came out. They have openly talked of impeachment, even before all this. Lisa Madigan, Atty. Genl., openly talked of opposing Blago in the next primary, even before all this. So, WHY, WHY, WHY IN THE HELL WOULD OBAMA BE DUMB ENOUGH TO RISK HIS PRESIDENCY BY TRYING TO NEGOTIATE A QUID PRO QUO FOR HIS SENATE SEAT??????

I don’t see ACORN reporting THESE registrants…and, by the way, registering really DOES lead to voting. This means that we have one person, 70 votes for Obama. The LAW says one person, ONE vote.

I liked Obama’s point that it isn’t just the sensationist scandals that are the problem, its the the subtle contamination of government by the influence of lobbyists. Obama is the smartest, deepest President we have had in my lifetime. More important to me than the Blogo scandal, which the political reporters are obviously delighted with, is what Obama is going to do about fixing our health care system. Too bad Jake Tapper doesn’t understand the changes to our health care system Daschel is talking about. It’s coming folks.

women citizen, please, just take 10 minutes and Google the “presumption of innocence” before giving us your shallow views on the topic. The presumption of innocence is a constitutional right that exists under the law, before the court. The presumption of innocence means that the prosecution must prove beyond a reasonable doubt with evidence lawfully obtained that the accused is guilty of the crime for which he is charged. The accused’s employer may conclude that the arrest affects the accused ability to perform his job and fire him. His friends may refuse to associate with him. Business associates may stop doing business with him. These may be prudent decisions. Would you hire Michael Jackson to babysit your kids? No? But he is presumed innocent! Was Nancy Pelosi correct in removing William Jefferson from the House Ways and Means Committee after he was arrested with $90,000 of payola in his freezer? But, under the law, he is presumed innocent. The presumption of innocence will keep Jefferson out of prison until the prosecutor proves his case beyond a reasonable doubt. If Jefferson is able to suppress evidence on technical fourth amemdment grounds and is able to beat the case, does it mean that he is innocent of the crime. Under the law, yes! In the mind of the public?

The language the President-elect used was careful???????
Since when did accusations become revelations?
That is “some kind” of scary talk, in a flawed World.
At least W. didn’t call the bad intel he was getting revelations.Maybe if he had we would have stepped farther back and looked twice.
Obama is calling these accusations revelations, which gives them more credibility than they have prior to any trial.
He seems releaved to have this evidence in, and seems to want us all to accept it as facts from above.
WHY?
To delete this Governor’s Constitutional rights?
GOOD HEAVENS!!! Was this written in the Blarney Stone, or is it on the rock bearing the golden sword waiting for Merlin’s friend to pull it out?

Paul Wall, don’t say Obama wasn’t running against anyone… just google it – when Obama ran for State Senate, he had all his opponents removed from the ballot and won by default. Sen. Alice Palmer, who was the incumbent, and two other candidates were removed per Obama’s challenges.

some of you who are very unfairly attacking Obama, it’s too bad you didn’t talk like this when Bush and Cheney were sending thousands of our troops to a war that should never have been and when they were ignoring the economy for 8 years with a republican congress for 6. Your key words here are “HEARD & HEARING”. Most of the things you are hearing are voices you should ignore. I bet you would change your tune if someone knocked on your door and cuffed you up for nothing tonight. When Press blows the story into a huge bubble, with you in the middle AmericanHeretic, you would want people with doubt and calmer viewpoints seeing you as innocent until evidence is presented against you.
All persons in this case say they never heard such talk from the Governor….are you saying they are liars and Obama and his staff are liars too?
What if everyone is telling the truth and the Gov. is innocent?
AmericanHeretic…..
You would not want me to pick up the torch and pitchfork and chase you about in the madding crowd speaking of revelations about you.
Obama could have releations about anyone at any time, and throw Momma from the train, and the press from the plane, if he is not called on such behavior.
The man is innocent, regardless of your own egoed postion as judge and jury, until the due process is over in this Country.

Hmm this was one of my arguements with the Republicans to begin with, they seems to twist and change the story to benefit them, so all you republicans out there, if the Republican Party should not be guilty based on Bush’s performance, then how the hell can you blame Obama for the actions of the Ill Governor, wake up, and get a clue please

I am an independent voter but democrats always make more sense than Republicans..I normally do not respond to Republicans because they don’t have a clue and the average Republican would look you in the eye and try to justify why its more important to spend 10 billion dollars a month to support a baseless, unjust war in Iraq than to invest that same money in Education, healthcare and in growing the economy..God bless Barack Obama and his cabinet and God bless America! I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
I find it utterly astonishing, to see how devoted and empassioned that Obama-devotees are, to absolutely refuse to believe that their precious Obama can be capable of the slightest wrong, that he is so utterly pure in soul and intent, that a light comes shining from him everywhere he walks.
Are you at all living in reality? Do you know what “fanatical” means?
Obama and Blago had the EXACT same associates: Rezko, Levine, Ata, Daley, Jones. All of these are known corrupt politicians, and some of them have been charged for it. And you think that Obama, who has worked with them, somehow manages to be completely and utterly pure, angelic, so God-like…i am just taken aback by how completely in denial you all are.
You are correct: Obama has not been charged….YET. Fitz is a hero: you know he has only revealed a few minutes of 300 hours of recording? And you also know well by now that Rezko, Blago, and Harris are all vindictive rich guys, who will do ANYTHING to stay out of jail. Obama has already thrown them all under the bus. Do you really think they will protect Obama?
Secrets. Somewhere, somehow,….all secrets will come out at some time.
What will you do, when your messiah is revealed to be a corrupt piece of trash? That you have invested so much of your passion in? Will your world come crashing down?
the perfect day: Obama, Axelrod, and Michelle, being led away in handcuffs, heads down, as America turns their backs on them.

WHY WOULD OBAMA RISK HIS PRESIDENCY BY TRYING TO NEGOTIATE A QUID PRO QUO FOR HIS SENATE SEAT??????…exactly, since the electoral college is soon, many are wondering the same thing, because it doesn’t add up…specifically how did Michelle’s former boss, Valerie Jarrett get her name on the short list for Obama’s seat over JesseJacksonJR, when Jarrett had less experience. Why would CNN report Jarrett was the leading candidate preferred by Obama, and the CNN report was posted on her wiki site until recently. Why would Axelrod, who is in the inner Obama circle, make a media statement that Obama was in touch with Blago about the vacated position and possible candidates, which he now retracts. There will probably be an investigation which will resolve all the questions. Until then, we should presume Blago, Obama and his team are innocent.

women citizen, you are confusing what is ideal with what is required under the law. Of course, if I am arrested for a crime, I would want to be considered innocent. But, the law only requires that I be presumed innocent before the court. Did the 88 Duke professors or the NAACP or the NYT consider the three Duke Lacrosse students innocent when they were accused of rape by a vile lying hooker? Was it required under the law? Of course, a person may be held liable in civil court for slander or libel. Thus, in the aftermath, Duke University, was forced to settle with the three students. The cause of action, however, had nothing to do with the presumption of innocence.
In answer to your other question about the pitchfork, only a moron would bring a farm implement to a gunfight.

It does make you wonder why Obama is so set on hanging out the Governor too quickly.
If a Tricky Dickey game is afoot, I have to agree that Nixon would have sought to move quickly on any Governor’s seat that had some sort of goods on him.
It might also be that Kenyan birth certificate thing, or the AKA left blank on B.O.’s Illinois bar application, but there might be much more.
The Country was pounding at the gate on Obama about his MIA birth certificate, and he may hope to divert the eye of the beholders with this accusation turned revelation
….maybe it will lead to nothing more than incrimination by Obama for rushing to get a judgement.
Everyone, even Oprah is hoofing it out of the place, along with hoards of others suddenly abandoning poor Chicago like the place with a plague.

Does that mean they are corrupt? not necessarily but it does give one pause. Yahoo just posted the most politically corrupt state in the Union – South Dakota – the home state of the new Secretary of Health and Human Welfare, Tom Daschle – how ironic.

It appears to me that the Obama defenders havent even read the complaint and are just parroting talking points that have no validity.

You said it yourself….
” only a moron would bring a farm implement to a gunfight”
What if this guy goes through due process, (which he is entitled to today since we are not yet Obamanation), and is found to be innocent of all charges and that the taped stuff was really planted gizmo stuff.
Why would the new President go so hard after any Governor?
We haven’t seen the likes of this since Fife Symington signed the “Arizona Safeplan Protocal Manual” for action to be taken against public officials into law. His signing the document gave consensus of States in numbers to open VAWA into resolution.
One man, among many persons who abused their positions of power over gender, certainly wanted to quash that VAWA puppy outright.
That decent act got AZ’s Gov. set up, and chased around, and prosecuted.
Yet, in the long and short of his prosecution the “sham in real estate for investors” was really not one, and still, even now, is a productive location and investment today.
The same President that would have been prosecuted if VAWA would have passed (over Monica), then pardoned his prey later.
It was later considered a decent act by Clinton to grant Presidential Pardon to Fife Symington , because the conviction was a ruse. No invester had lost a dime.
It did keep the Wild Willy out of jail to send out the vultures to set up and chase around that poor Governor though didn’t it?
The women may never get any justice for crimes they suffered by officials in that day.
But hey, women are not yet deserving of fair and equal treatment or considerations in power for having better resume’s, under the American Constitution yet, are they?

take heart Allen, I am a life long democrat and I think Obama has stunk with the rank smell of pay to play for as long as he has been in politics.
Rezko bought a “separate lot next door” when Obama bought his house, but the problem is that the separate lot was not legally eligible to be a separate lot by Chicago law because it was developed (it was the side yard and drive way with fence and lawn and everything), but guess who say on the zoning board which made that exception? Yup, it was Michelle Obama.
Please, these people have always been tied up together.

afbrat59,
I defer any direct comment you bring towards me regarding the numerous cases filed with the Supreme Court from December 8 2008, that will usher the Obama document question to public viewing by those sworn to uphold the US Constitution.
No valid legal venue has revued the evidence both pro or con,to my knowledge.
The cases being brought to demand to see it were in part being rendered through findings from some high level forensic investigators.
The Obama birth certificate and birth place is a growing snowball.
Where did you decide that it is over?

If the MSM had done its job over the last 18 months, many of the questions about PEBO would have been resolved by now and there would not be so many lingering doubts.
In addition, Obama himself does not help the situation. He says that he is going to create a much more open presidency. Yet, one of the first road blocks he created was to refuse to provide his records from Columbia and Harvard Law School, two of the most prestigious schools in America.
I have degrees from one university and two law schools. I have always been proud to open my school records to any prospective employer who has asked. Why on God’s earth would Obama want to keep his academic records secret? Can anyone provide a justifiable reason for such secrecy? Is this our new era of openess? One of the reasons that I wanted to see the country-of-birth question litigated is that the plaintiff may have been able to subpoena PEBO’s school records.
This is akin to John Kerry refusing to release his military records. His relunctance to be forthright was probably more damaging than anything that existed in the records themselvs, but we will never know. The same may be true for PEBO.

AmericanHeretic,
Consensus among the coffe shop crowds seems to be that Obama will not produce his information from the schools because he lists on his applications his citizenship for special funding.
Since most average all American smart kids are on the back burner in this Country and not accepted over “Foreign students” at many colleges, many beleive he has it on record with his own signature where he is from.
I never heard the thought mentioned that he has lied about his accolades of accomplishment and achievement regarding school.
I only heard that he lied about accomplishing anything of merit for the community he was the activist for.
That wasonly because of a documentary called “Hype The Obama Effect” which got no traction with the Press back in the day, and therefore remained virtually unknown.
The references to REVELATIONS out of accusations is kind of telling about his intellect.
Only a really dumb guy, or a scared guy with a lot to lose, would involve himself in chasing tither and yon a Governor in any State, just to disempower him from his elected seat granted him by the people, by BULLYING him into a resignation.
If the people of Illinois don’t want their Gov. in that seat of power, they will handle it.
They don’t need B.O. telling anyone what to do.
It looks like a lot of the people believe their Governor is innocent, and so are the people indicated, doesn’t it?

“Sufferin’ Succotash”, I thought Obama was going to unite all Americans.
After the treatment of Bush by the left how could anybody unite anyone…?
“What goes around, comes around”. That is most unfortunate because it always easier to tear down, than to build up… So, now Mr. Obama’s job is very difficult. And so many people expect so much from him, that he cannot possibly meet their expectations.
“Unite” means different things to different pople… Let us not forget tthat dictators unite the people by making it very rough on those that don’t agree with him. In the end everyone is united!…
Another piece of wisdom from G.K. Chesterton
“Never tear down a fence until you know why it was put up”. Many people are convinced that destruction of the past, and destruction of traditions is “Progress”…

All persons who care about this country, whether they supported Barack Obama for president or not (and I did not), should realize that the only “hope” of success for the treacherous trek out of the current morass—including two wars, security concerns, a financial crises, an auto industry crisis, a domestic, consumer driven recession, and a global slow-down—is for the entire country, including the president-elect, the congress, the press, and the voters, to focus exclusively on developing the required bi-partisan policy solutions.
The last thing this country needs right now is another “Whitewater” style investigation of our new president as a result of the situation in Chicago, distracting the attention of the congress and the president. The issues and problems we have right now do not allow for any such partisan foolishness.
Whatever minor bit role any future West Wing inhabitants may have had in this sordid affair, it is all a side show.
It is the last thing in the world right now that the country needs to be focusing on. We literally cannot afford another 3 to 4 years of “what did President Obama know and when did he know it.”
Any Americans (including members of congress) who truly care about this country and its citizens, of voting age or not, will eschew the Blagojevich debacle as a means of gaining GOP political power at the expense of the president-elect, and patriotically aid the president-elect and the incoming congress in fashioning solutions to the desperate economic and international crisis in which we find ourselves in.
Any Americans who are members of the 4th Estate should likewise balance the need to find solutions against the temptation to sell news.
Our circumstances as Americans outweigh partisan politics at this point, and any of our elected representatives who nevertheless chose to put party and self-interest over country need to be turned out at the earliest opportunity to do so.

Never ever apply for a job requiring certain information if you are unwilling to have it seen.
The job requires the dude planning to uphold the US Constitution be of the caliber to do the deed.
If he is not a “natural Born” citizen as the job requires , he cannot keep it.
Sooner or later Corporate always finds out you lied on the application, and deletes you in that function.
Many times they sue or prosecute for your having lied, speaking to moral turpitude, and seek large compensation or jail time.
In the event the job applicant for the office to uphold the Constitution is really not qualified, what is that considered?
An Act of treason (and do we still put them before a firing squad)?
If he is not even a naturalized citizen, as many coffee drinkers seem to believe in Hawaii. What then?
This whole era will be remembered as Historic.
This is a matter where the race card cannot get you hired.
Many contend that they want the documentation out as any citizen would want to do, and should be proud and happy to do in his historic shoes.
If he is a sham, everyone I know would be proud we rooted him out and got a real deal in the door.

That “revelation” is the act that is bringing attention to B.O.’s lack of decorum regarding the right to a trial and innocence.

In the Summer of 2006, then-U.S. Sen. Obama backed Blagojevich even though there were serious questions at the time about Blago’s hiring practices.
At the time, numerous state agencies had had records subpoenaed, with U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald telling authorities he was looking into “very serious allegations of endemic hiring fraud” with a “number of credible witnesses.”
In an interview with the Chicago Daily Herald in July 2006, then-Sen. Obama said, “I have not followed closely enough what’s been taking place in these investigations to comment on them. Obviously I’m concerned about reports that hiring practices at the state weren’t, at times, following appropriate procedures. How high up that went, the degree at which the governor was involved, is not something I’m going to speculate on.
“If I received information that made me believe that any Democrat had not been acting in the public interest, I’d be concerned,” Obama said.
That said, Mr. Obama said, “If the governor asks me to work on his behalf, I’ll be happy to do it.”
Apparently the governor did. At the Illinois State Fair in August 2006, Obama spoke on Blagojevich’s behalf.
“We’ve got a governor in Rod Blagojevich who has delivered consistently on behalf of the people of Illinois,” Obama told the crowd.
In January 2007, Blagojevich’s office reserved the Old State Capitol for Mr. Obama’s presidential announcement at Obama’s request.

As a loyal Democrat for 36 years, I am ashamed to say I voted for Obama for Senator from Illinois. After the farce of the Democratic primaries, I resigned from the Democratic party and became unaffiliated. I did not vote for Senator Obama in the GE. I know it is on life support, but this country still operates under our Constitution. This provides for “innocent until proven guilty”. I find the comments calling for the Governor’s resignation by the President Elect to be highly prejudicial and inappropriate. Also Fitzgerald’s reciting quotes from the wire taps. Almost guarantees a fair trial to be impossible. As regards the supposed “transparancy” of the PE, I find it difficult to believe when considering the secrecy that has shrouded his birth records, school records, and his travels in the 1980′s. Add to that the many dubious associations, the initial denials, the constant explanation of “this is not the person I knew” followed by the repudiation of the individual in question. This is not the description of an honorable man.

This is the problem with democrats, worse yet, liberal democrats. They promise to take more of our $$$ and spread it around to help people. They tell everyone how to live, while they live like royalty.
They always use the we are the “messiahs of the poor” approach, which allows them to make gov’t bigger and more powerful. When in fact, giving the gov’t more $$$ just means making the window bigger for corruption to take place within it.
Of course there is corruption on the side of republicans (just look at the Alaskan senator). However, the conservative platform- smaller gov’t, smaller taxes FOR EVERYONE, more citizen self-reliance- simply allows for more “policing of the gov’t” and not the other way around.

I did not vote for Obama but I do not hate him like the left hate Bush. I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this issue (that he did not know about any deals being made on the IL US Senate seat). Having said that, Obama supporters (and the press) have to really ask themselves that for all this man’s supposed gifted talents (smart, honest, decisive, etc) that the press love to laud he really has no ability to judge the character of those he is closest with. How do you explain his 20+ year association with Rev Wright despite his racist and hateful remarks (but he claims he never heard them and was surprised. How do you explain his association with Ayers a former doemstic terrorist now the toast of the press? How do you explain his association with Gov Blago (a man whose campaign Obama advised in 2002 and who he endorsed again in 06). And his association with Rezko? If you think I am making a big deal of it, ask yourself, how many friends or associates do you know who bombed the US Capitol or are sitting in jail or are indicted by the feds? Not many I would assume. Again, I wish Obama success, but even the most ardent supporter has to wonder, “Where is this man’s judgement?”

Stop2Think writes, “Having said that, Obama supporters (and the press) have to really ask themselves that for all this man’s supposed gifted talents (smart, honest, decisive, etc) that the press love to laud he really has no ability to judge the character of those he is closest with. How do you explain his 20+ year association with Rev Wright despite his racist and hateful remarks (but he claims he never heard them and was surprised.”

In your infinite LACK of wisdom, you take a sound-byte from ONE sermon and label a church attended by Blacks and Whites as racist. How stupid is that? If that isn’t enough, you FAIL to do the math and factor in REALITY. The sermons have been taped for well over a decade. There have been over 1,040 Sunday sermons. Are you so dense that you DON’T think both the Clintons and Republicans had scores of individuals VIEWING those tapes? What did they find after viewing THOUSANDS of sermons? Nothing. Yet you STILL believe what you believe. Amazing.

“obama is disappointing more and more.”
You ain’t seen nothing yet: his vile appointment of Daschle has crashed the stock market. (It ain’t the boo-boo on the bailout, perhaps: one way or another, they’ll GET their money, everybody knows THAT … )
If anybody should resign, it’s Obama/Axelrod.

Right, because the stock market has been so stable lately and the Secretary of Health and Human Services plays such a large role in financial matters.

Dems
You could have a video tape of every sunday I have ever sat in in my LIFE, and not once would you hear ANY of the vile, racist, anti-American, anti-Semetic things coming out of my pastors’ mouths.
Sorry to disappoint you.
And if they ever did say that crap, myself and my children would never have gont to another sermon there again!

So what? Are you suggesting Obama’s a racist? That he’s anti-American? Anti-Semetic? Don’t be ridiculous. You all need to get over the Wright stuff. It’s irrelevant. There are very important things in front of us. That is not one of them.

After voting for Obama I felt relief and now I don’t feel that way anymore . He seems to be just another politician.

“the stock market has been so stable lately and the Secretary of Health and Human Services plays such a large role in financial matters.”
The Daschles never stray far from financial matters. When Obama announced he INTENDED to appoint Daschle, the stock market crashed. Now that he’s actually DONE it, it’s crashed again.
When golden boy appointed the insider Geithner, and the stock market went UP, the news jumped on it as a causation. When everything ELSE Obama does has the opposite effect, it’s not “news”.
We need a revolution, apparently, in order to get National Health for the displaced citizenry at large, while the preening Obamas make common cause with every tired hack in D.C.
The times they ARE a-changin’. You wait and see. It’s gonna look like Greece here any day.

Seriously, you all with your sky is falling nonsense are quite a sight. And the day that a nomination for Secretery for Health and Human Services causing the market to crash, I’ll eat my hat. The only stocks that would even marginally be effected would be pharmaceutical stocks. Unless you have numbers for them, you’re being silly.

“After voting for Obama I felt relief and now I don’t feel that way anymore . He seems to be just another politician.”
Just another mob-friendly Chicago politician, who bought his present position for $750 million bucks. All that’s different about Obama is the neo-con script and the stutter.
Blagojevich’s a piker by comparison, but his departure may decrease the former “Democrats”‘ power even more, giving Barky more excuses for doing nothing but blather about what’s “appropriate” and not …
Having seen Obama’s vote for the bailout, his flight from the Senate, his bait-and-switch appointments and backtracking, many who DID vote for him — not only after his wholly-baloney primmary performances, but in the General Election, now wouldn’t.
With any luck, the Chicago business will unravel just in time to prevent his taking office. Re-running the 2008 election, with PAPER ballots and equal air time, might be an idea whose time has come: we’ve just come through 8 years of a president who came to power through misrepresentation and deep pockets, and it didn’t work out well.
Aside from the birthday suit factor, Obama’s shaping up quite Bush-like.

“You can get elected by doing the right thing. That’s what I hope we have modeled in this campaign. And that’s what I intend to model in my administration.”
What’s The One gonna say when Rahm Emanuel, or whoever, at last throws HIM under the bus, on the Senate seat for sale?

PEBO’s gotta chill. The
governor’s harmless antics
are just that.
If Illinois is a well-run
state, there is no need for
Blago to resign.
His imitation of a
crime-syndicate boss on the
tapes is pretty good.
H
was pretty good.

Yes Obama came from a politically tough town and we all know it. Thats why saying that we supporters think he is some kind of messiah is so silly. We know his faults yet still feel that he is trustworthy. What is laughable is that any of this even remotely compares to the deeds of the last gang of Republican corporate stooges that we just booted out of Washington. Starting a war and then giving no-bid contracts for billions of dollars to your corporate buddies for instance. While the crimes comitted by the governor may be serious we don’t hold Obama responsible at all. Its the hysterical Republicans who are blowing the smoke to cover their tracks leading to much greater misdeeds.

just in: Rahm’s on the tapes multiple times. And he is a cabinet member. this is on fox chicago and confirmed by abc.

Dreamers, nothing but dreamers. So you are willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt? I wonder how many people gave Bush the Benefit of the doubt? For years I voted for who I thought was the lesser of two evils, and one day I woke up and realized that both were so evil that there was no lesser of two evils. So I stopped and decided to let all of you make the mistakes instead. Isnt it disgusting to wake up one day and realize that when we were small we were told to respect our elders and now we find that the elders are nothing more than infants grown up into greedy and arrogant crooks who are making the laws of the land, collecting the money’s of the land and filling their won pockets with breibes and payoff’s. These are the elders of today and yesterday. They make jokes about being corrupt and taking bribes. This may be the result of Federal Education. I dont know. I went to a one room school so far out of town we could only visit once or twice a month. We were educated according to the selections of the Pennsylvania Department of Education which was far superior to the selections of the Federal Department of Education. We also graduated real engineers then, real scientists then. We even had one nation indivisible and not one nation under God My how times change.

Most gave Bush the benefit of the doubt, and he burned us. Big time. THEY FREAKING LIED TO OUR FACES ABOUT IRAQ. Period. End of story.
“just in: Rahm’s on the tapes multiple times. And he is a cabinet member. this is on fox chicago and confirmed by abc.”
Rahm is not a cabinet member and the word is that he’s on tape giving Blago “a list of acceptable candidates.” There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, in fact, that’s what they SHOULD be doing.

The question that has not been answered is what did Barack know and when did he know it? Was the “nothing but appreciation” response given, and if so, by whom? Was this “business as usual” in Illinois politics? I have to say that this smacks of “going along to get along”.

“Our whole campaign was about changing that view of politics,” Mr. Obama said.
that is straight from obama’s mouth and i am holding him to that.if he keeps rahm as chief of staff ,i guess all he said during election is nothing but words to get elected!he is no different with the others in capitol.a liar, corrupt and no good politician!
