President-elect Obama to Make Energy/Environment Announcements Next Week

ABC News has learned that in a press conference next week, President-elect Obama will announce that Carol Browner will likely serve as the White House energy "czar," Nobel Laureate Steven Chu will be his nominee for Secretary of the Department of Energy, and Lisa Jackson will likely serve as the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Tomorrow in Chicago, the President-elect will announce that former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle will serve as his Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Browner worked in both terms of former President Bill Clinton’s White House as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. She has worked for Senator Lawton Chiles,.D-Fla., and then-Senator Al Gore, D-Tenn. Before being tapped for Obama’s administration, Brower was a principal of the Albright Group.

Chu does not have appear to have any particular governmental or political experience, outside of his current job as director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, a federal lab operated by the University of California. There, he has worked to find scientific solutions to issues of climate change. Prior to running the Berkeley Lab, Chu was on the faculty at Stanford University and worked AT&T’s Bell Labs. He won the Nobel prize for physics in 1997 for developing methods to trap and cool atoms using laser light.

Daschle is a former Senate Majority Leader, serving in the U.S. Senate for South Dakota from 1987-2005. He previously served in the House of Representatives for eight years. Daschle was a frequent companion on the campaign trail with then-Sen. Obama during the primary campaign. His wife Linda Hall Daschle has for years been a powerful lobbyist, though she recently announced she’s leaving her lobbying firm to start her own, which will not accept clients related to health care policy.

Jackson has served for only a few weeks as chief of staff to New Jersey’s Democratic Governor Jon Corzine. The governor announced her appointment at the end of October, and she took over on Dec. 1. Previously, Jackson was the head of New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection, where she enforced environmental laws and regulations throughout the state, and stepped up outreach to New Jersey citizens to involve them in environmental protection. Jackson served as the co-chair of Mr. Obama’s transition team on energy and natural resources.

Yes, just as about 650 experts have come out saying global warming is a leftwing scam!
Love it.
The globe is cooling, not warming.

Yay to Chu. I came across his name a bit as I was doing my research last year. Its nice to see technical people getting a say in a technical issue.
and Jo, glad to hear that. It really is wonderful news that we can look forward to the ice age and now worry about sinking, coz you KNOW we can survive the ice age. You deliver good news.
Karen, lol.

… ‘not worry about sinking’, i meant. I am just worried about sinking presently so ‘now’ crept up.

The first environmental hysteric as POTUS, that should produce some good times.
Who can’t see through the scam — Pay more in taxes to the gubbermint so gubbermint scientists can pretend to control the weather. So how is this tax scam supposed to reduce the Earth’s temperature?

“Yes, just as about 650 experts have come out saying global warming is a leftwing scam!”
“Experts” = scientists bought and paid for by the oil companies.
“The globe is cooling, not warming.”
Global temperatures have increased by 0.75 °C (1.35 °F) relative to the period 1860–1900, according to the instrumental temperature record.

Gotta tell you, here in Illinois, we don’t care about that! We just want to know how crooked JJ Jr. is, and when Obama’s people knew Blago was selling the seat! Because they had to know something was up.

When will America wake up? The Dem’s this year are a bunch of crooks. My goodness we look like the laughing stock of the world. Thank Goodness I crossed party lines and voted for McCain. Someone needs to clean house bad as the people are under a cult movement.

Finally, an actual scientist appointed to make decisions about energy!
If you fools seriously don’t believe in science, then stop going to the doctor, stop using technology….. go back to the woods and live like your ancestors did….. But don’t you dare try to say something is wrong just because you don’t understand it.

If it weren’t for inventors, scientists, and teachers, farmers, and healers we would still be living in huts and dieing young.
Think about all you have and all you do… we got all of the advances from many people collectively a little at a time.
We can only hope that Mr Obama chose the correct Cabinate. Our lives depend on it.

“Yes, just as about 650 experts have come out saying global warming is a leftwing scam!”
That reminds me of something- the acronym of Pebo being linked to the teletubby, Tinky Winky.

“PEBHO is just trying to distract from the mounting pressure for him to resign.”
Mounting pressure = an Ashley Todd fan calling for such on the blog.

PEBHO is just trying to distract from the mounting pressure for him to resign.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Now if only CIOH can respond to the mounting pressure for CIOH to resign from these boards so that we don’t overdose on the comic relief CIOH’s comments provide. You know too much laughter is a sin.

Question,
This Concerned in Ohio was the one who went all “oh HOW horrible!” because Obama said that his grandmother lived to two World Wars (actually that would be his grandfather), instead of one.
What mounting pressure? From the Freepers? Concerned in Ohio, the latest polls show that Obama has a job approval of over 70%, and that Republicans and conservative voters have warmed up to him too. Same can’t be said for the Shrub, who is languishing in the twenties, though, so sorry.

- real scientists working on science without biblical or political interference, well, that certainly is change from ‘W’ and the creationist/intelligent design cults of the last 8 years..

Posted by: Blue | December 11, 2008, 12:08 am 12:08 am

to put a finer point on the difference:
” outgoing EPA chief Stephen L. Johnson.
Nonsense……..
Johnson majored in biology. At Taylor, that includes discussion of creationism. Taylor biology professor Timothy Burkholder, who was Johnson’s adviser, said, “We would adhere to the view that God is the creator of all things and in charge of our lives, and I think Steve recognizes that and did from the beginning.”
Asked about this, Johnson declined to express his views on the evolution-creation question.
“It’s not a clean-cut division,” the career EPA scientist said. “If you have studied at all creationism vs. evolution, there’s theistic or God-controlled evolution and there’s variations on all those themes.”

Jo,
The prosecutor stressed Obama was not implicated in anything.
Yeah, please go and tell that the Earth is cooling to the UNIPCC panel and the over 5,000 scientists.
Please tell that to the people who got hit by four category five hurricanes in 2005, which was a record season of all time- till they ran out of names for the storms.

Sorry, I meant investigator, not prosecutor.

author:”Chu does not have appear to have any particular governmental or political experience, outside of his current job as director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory”, true. but this assignment of this Nobel prize winner in science to the cabinet member, the first in US history, only mean the internal promotion of the administrator of one of the key national laboratories under DOE, which consist of Sandia, Argon, Brookhaven, Lawrence Livermore, Lawrence berkeley etc. In particular, Chu should be very familiar with the so called renewable energy source with solar and bio-fuel in particular. Chu should also know that these renewable energy can never be able to replace the conventional electric power generation during his life time.

Concerned in Ohio: Notice, I am from Ohio and have not heard where the pressures are on Obama to resign (except from you). Please get with reality.

I am not a big fan of EPA. We are going to laugh at the EPA. They will not get the job done.
