There’s No One as Irish as Barack O’Bama?
From the Irish town of Moneygall — from whence President-elect Obama says his great great great grandfather hailed — comes a song: "There’s no one as Irish as Barack Obama."
The Corrigan Brothers’ new anthem features the chorus “O’Leary, O’Reilly, O’Hare and O’Hara — there’s no one as Irish as Barack Obama." And, ABC News’ Miguel Marquez reports, they have apparently been invited to play at the inauguration.
The Corrigan Brothers first came to note as Hardy Drew and the Nancy Boys and had an Irish rap called Cúpla Focal.– jpt

Good grief! Can we get a BREAK from Obama’s DNA delusions, already — given that in what passes for reality, The One’s pretty hazy even on the history of his mother, and of his supposed progenitor …
Promoting this pathetic personality cult at the coronation is a stupid embarrassment, right up there with mega-church man.
If The CHANGEling and the Kennedys have the right of return, maybe they should go back to Iresland NOW, before people get any MORE sick of their burgeoning baloney, er, blarney.

To be sure Obama has a token gay cousin he can flaunt to appease all of the homosexuals angered by choosing Rick Warren.
By the way–I am gay and not upset at the choice of Warren.
I never trusted Obama from the beginning and was completely turned off by his constant pandering.
Obama’s views on gay rights are the same as Hillary, Warren, Palin, Bush.
But too many gays were drunk on BO kool-aid to see the truth.
But back to the subject…Obama has Irish blood. Why am I not surprised?

There’s also French ancestry for Obama . So maybe someone can do a Zydeco song for him. Incidentally, both him and Cheney have a common French ancestor from the 1600′s who was a Hugenot.

Thanks. The censors disappeared most of it. Silencing criticism of The CHANGEling’s no-there-there “change” MAY get him to the mega-church circus on time, but THEN what?
One thing Blagojevich, Emanuel, and The One have in common is … David Axelrod, former media man who went from reporting fact to creating lifelike political fiction.
A crock of crooks, all of them extremely well turned out. Meanwhile, in California, dozens of masked citizens trashed a shopping mall … apparently just for the hell of it: irrationality above begets irrationality on the streets.

Meanwhile, The One’s not so much like a king. Instead, he evokes … one of the ugly stepsisters, enhanced with a face transplant, playing out the wish to play the Princess.

I have to say… yeah I am on the Belle Starr bandwagon…whodda thunk.
I do think the Rick Warren thing is a sign that Obama is not the man he pretended to be and got a lot fo good people to vote for him…
I wonder how he would feel if we grabbed one of those preachers from the 50′s and 60′s who were saying the same thing…you know comparisons to bestiality, and pedophilia…and unnatural…and threat to civilized society…
oh but they were talking about interracial relationships…
you know the ones who had “progeny that would weaken the gene pool” is them having sex was allowed to be legal.
yeah right now I care less about the Irish thing.
I guess he doesn’t realize that Presidents that came before him actually didn’t “reach out” to bigotry and honor them.
so right now… I say Belle Starr is right.
It wasn’t Obama’s Irish side that I had to defend in really shady backwoods New Hampshire towns…people who would no sooner talk to a gay person than have a black president…
He is half Irish and half hypocrite.
I am so glad he is returning the favor.

Town? There are a few houses at the side of the road and also a few chancers “on the make”. The long-gone ancestor was a shoemaker (cobbler) called Falmouth Kearney. This is and was an unusual first name in Ireland as it’s the name of a town in Devon (England). Devon is particularly associated with Sir Francis Drake so before long we’ll probably hear that Barack is a relation of Queen Elizabeth 1 or, barring that, her most famous buccaneer who defeated the Spanish Armada. Fill in the blanks, as you wish, and remember that the singers and the song are absolute rubbish but, hey, if they can make some money from human gullibility in these hard times, good luck to them.

I remember a couple of times people seeing me…thinking I was just a good ol Irish/Scottish American…
as I got by the pit bulls or the fences down those long dirt drives in backwoods New Hampshire debating with them because they made it entirely clear they were offended by or not comfortable with the thought of an African American president…and thought they could open up to an Irish American looking guy…I probably could of used the half Irish argument as they started to realize something about me…and that look…
you know the look…when they realized
“This guy might be a fa&&ot”
and there was no doubt in my mind or theirs that if they could have gotten away with it…they would have loved to take a shotgun to the back of my head and bury me somewhere in those woods…if they knew they could get away with it.
seems Irish /American didn’t help me either while I was fighting for Obama.
seems like my fighting for Obama in those backwoods didn’t help me get thrown under his bus either.

sounds like he is Irish as long as it helps HIM.
and jake…for me to say that …you know… that is a big jump.
wonder if her Irish would have helped his Mom in the 50′s and 60′s if a President elect then gave one of those preachers creedence who was actively and nationally pushing that bigoted belief that interracial relations were on par with bestiality and unnaturalness.?
you know how do you think Barack felt about those preachers if his Mom had to live in neighborhoods who bought into that belief…you know when she had to walk on those streets…home daily…at night.
and how do you think he would have felt if the President he worked his a$$ off for two years to get elected risking…more than that president would know… actually went and picked the most visible of those preachers preaching about the sins of inter racial relations and the weakening gene pool for what may be the most honored religious and moral choice he can make for what may be the most watched event in human history…to stand by him.
he probably would be angry and scared enough to ignore talk about that half Irish president’s rock song.
whose angry? lol
sorry had to spew…

Obama represents a bit of everyone – so many people can identify with this incredible leader. The choice of Warren shows that Obama understands the way to real solutions is finding something positive in everyone and using that positive commonality to build bridges. Great choice! If he invited someone who represented all of his views, it’s a wasted opportunity, a bridge not built. I think Obama will be a huge supportive voice for the GLBT community. And for once, we seem to have someone who actually has the vision to solve problems instead of simply talk about them. This’s not a Clinton, this’s REAL greatness! Give him a chance. -Delta

Who the blazes is Miguel Marquez? Don’t tell me! He’s Irish too but is better known as Mickey Finn. Ronald Reagan was just as Irish as the Kennedys but he kept quiet about it as he got a rough ride in Dublin when he came to visit way back in the 80s. His policy on Central America was none too popular and Ollie North didn’t really strike a chord. The only genuine Irish-American I know was born in August 2007 and lives in Darien, Connecticut. His mother is my cousin – born, brought up and educated in Ireland. His dad is American and the marriage took place in Co. Kerry, Ireland, almost exactly seven years ago. The young lad was also baptized in Ireland and will have a real Irish-American sibling next June. Give up your oul’ nonsense as we can tell the authentic from the fake. Barack Obama hasn’t even been inaugurated yet and, in general, the world doesn’t give a fiddler’s curse about his ancestry. He had nothing to do with it. It’s how he shapes up as President that will matter.

dl: honest curiosity, why would you go to someone’s home and debate when they’ve made their decisions (based on whatever values they hold)? I only put it that way because you use the word “debate.” I’d get a little cranky if someone came to my home to tell me I’m wrong about my choices.

anybody who went door to door here will probably tell you
“debate” usually was because someone asked me questions…
I was pretty good at the soft sell…
and really nice…
but especially people with strong opinions almost always…either shut the door immediately or…
they try to do the hard sell back…to try and show you you are wrong…
I never turned away from someone inviting me to a debate when it was on their terms at their home…
they really couldn’t win after I had done it at my 200 or 300th house for Barack…

Would you say the same if he invited the head of the KU Klux Klan to give the prayer…
he also has a large constituency and that would be reaching out?
or maybe just a minister who says women should be subservient to men because the Bible says that too in many interpretations…
would that be okay? if a popular minister who actively preaches that women need to bow down to men was chosen
I think you all need to realize Barack made a mistake…he did not think this through …he is giving a man who is horrible …not just slightly horrible …but actively hoorible to a huge population that fervently fought for him
he owes them nothing…but hypocrisy is something they don’t deserve.

This is cute – I always liked the Irish sound.
It’s nice to have some good news; I am tired of hearing the whining from disgruntled people over a preacher saying a 2 minute prayer at the inaguration. And for the record, gays are NOT the only ones who voted for Obama – they are a minority in numbers compared to others. No one likes anyones feelings to be hurt over this, but in all fairness – Obama is President to ALL mMericans now, not just those who supported him.

I agree Obama is President to all Americans
and again he owes the gay community that fought tooth and nail for him…against bigotry that he himself even faced…
nothing. sincerely
but he they don’t deserve this level of hypocrisy.
again…would he be okay if the same references (as they were popular to use the same pedophile and bestiality and unnatural references) against inter racial relationships then…
would that be okay …there are large population that are still racist… should he have and would he have been okay had a President reached out to one of them?
how would he feel if someone appointed a leading vocal advocate against interracial marriage back when his mother had to walk home at night in neighborhoods that could have bought into that?
yes
he owes the gay community nothing…
he owes the African American community nothing
he owes Republicans nothing
He owes women nothing
he owes supporters of Israel nothing
He owes anti Bush people nothing
etc etc
but none of them deserve hypocrisy.

He’s never taken a principled, controversial stand. Sure, he likes to talk big about his “controversial” stand against the Iraq War. Newsflash: his stand wasn’t controversial in the most liberal district in Illinois, which he represented.
All that said, I hope he does well. He’ll be the most inexperienced man to ever be inaugurated POTUS. He has no executive experience whatsoever. I just hope he proves to be more than just a first-rate snake oil salesman.

Experience when it come to THAT position is ALL RELATIVE.
You can keep your mediocre candidate with the executive experience, In that position ITS ALL ABOUT JUDGEMENT.
And when you are WICKED smart like Barack, Those mediocre Candidates you speak of with executive experience GETS LEFT IN THE DUST.
In the primaries they were some with this so call executive experience and HE CRUSH them, They were simply not up for the TASK; Which leave questions if they would be ever up for the JOB.

So far, he’s all fluff. He hasn’t taken brave stands, his first election he ran unopposed after having his opponents disqualified on technicalities. He’s a political coward posing as a leader for a brave new world.

I am pro-gay marriage and still I congratulate Barack Obama for having chosen an anti-gay priest to his ceremony.
The only way to unite is by uniting. If gays and lesbians are ever going to win something socially, who they truly deserve, it will be through B.O.
The only way to do good things is by bringing the opposites together. There is no other way.
If gays and lesbians want to be accepted, the only way is through people like this priest to be shut up. And the only way to shut people like that is by trade.
Wait and see…Obama knows what he is doing. He also needs to counter all the crazy right wing fundamentalist Christians who say he isn’t Christian. He needs to shut those up first, if he is govern.
Wait and see. B.O. is on the side of equality for all.

Obama’s hipocrisy is not about Irish
It’s about a man who ignores his mother’s fight in the 50′s and 60′s against bigots who often called in their bigoted conservative way…her relationship that he was born out of…on par with the “unnatural” “bestiality” “pedophilia” “weakening the gene pool” “the end of civilization”"a threat against civilization” “incest” “unholy” “sin”
all things bigots said then about interracial relationships…
all things they could try and back up with 8000 years of civilized institutionalized slavery …and interpretation of the Bible supporting that idea.
and Now he tells a community that is actually larger than that of those who are had inter racial relationships …that his appointment and recognition of a man who says that about them…
is “what we have to do to reach out”
If a president said that like JFK or Robert Kennedy said that in some of those historic speeches …or did that instead of those speeches… giving the bigot who believed Obama’s mother was “unnatural” or on par with “pedophilia and bestiality” (which was a belief at that time held by as many conservatives as do about the gay community now)
There is a chance Obama would not be accepting the Presidency right now.
THAT is the hypocrisy…
and yes…THAT IS hypocrisy.
unquestionably.
should the Kennedy brothers have “reached out and appointed some KKK representative or racist preacher to lead the nation in prayer… lets say that preacher at the time was leading a feed the hungry initiative.
yes hypocrisy…
and I say this as someone who fought daily tooth and nail to get this man elected in places I should not have been.
yes hypocrisy.
Posted by: dl | December 22, 2008, 8:39 am 8:39 am
and no the only way to unite
is not to give a place of honor to someone who denegrates good Americans…millions of good Americans.
Uniting is about talking to each other without comparisons of completely destructive indferences of “pedophilia and bestiality and incest”…
it is not about honoring those who use those terms in a way to empower their own beliefs.
He owes the gay community
women
Republican
any individual community nothing but honesty and character…and being the man he said he was…
would the African American community…
or Republicans say it was reachign out if he gave a place of honor to a racist who had a heart of gold…but who actively compared them to less than whites.
or a sexist who continuously said women were not as intelligent as men…because the Bible infers that
There are very few things I do not think we can unite on…equality for all is not one of them.
It is about character and hypocrisy.
and yes people are getting angrier as they realize that is exactly what he is doing…
it is not about marriage (I personally care less about that) …it is about bigotry.

Would JFK or Johnson have honored George Wallace at their inaugurations. What about the KKK. They would have marched beautifully. Yea, bringing people of different philosophies together will mend all fences. Get real. Obama invited this guy because he feels the same and besides, those evangeical votes will come in handy in 2012. He began his campaign with The Gospel Tour, conducted the Faith Tour, courted the religious zealots. Maybe he believes in it, maybe he’s just a politician that has assumed you’ll fall for anything. Lots of you already did. Has everyone gotten their Montel Williams Coin Sets? Better hurry, they are minting a limited collection. Only 20 million or so. They’ll be worth as much as $25.00 in 50 years. Maybe $5.
