Was there an option not to pay?..

When Republicans break the law they leave public office in disgrace, but that is because they have standards. When a Democrat breaks the law, they stay and the media protects them. We have a so-called stimulus bill that has pork in it that includes snowmaking equipment for Minnesota, money for a skateboard park(infrastructure), money for Planned Parenthood, money for windmills that don’t work, money for a group that registers illegal aliens to vote, and a list that goes on and on. We now have a President who said today that NOW isn’t the time for companies to make profits — I thought that was what the goal of the stimulus bill was. We have a President who keeps saying that this is the worst economy since the Great Depression –Wasn’t he alive during the late 1970′s and early 1980′s when inflation was rampant, unemployment was about what it is now, the GDP was shrinking faster than it is now, etc.? What joke our country has become, thanks mainly to the Democrat party, most of the news media, John McCain, Barack Obama, and ill-informed voters.

So, when Obama promised “hope” and “change” he meant he was hoping we wouldnt notice how much change his cabinet owes in taxes??

Let’s assume Geithner and Daschale are not stupid. Let us also assume their omission was not deliberate. The only conclusion is that the tax code is so complicated that even the “best and the brightest” have problems with it. May be it is time for simplification. Flat tax any one.

as a small business owner i was just sent a notice that i was .05 short for the quarter on my federal unemployment tax. It cost the IRS .42 to send the notice not to mention the printing costs. But the best part is now I owe 398.07 in penalties and interest. What a country!!!

Tom Daschel woke up a little bit ago and said to himself, “I’d better check my taxes and see if I should be declaring the use of that limo service on my taxes”. Then sure enough he found out that he should and he went and told his accountant to pay the IRS the back taxes with interest. What a great guy he is and a smart one at that. It only took him a couple of years to realize this. He also has a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you too.

So Obama knew about this in early December 2008 and we find out about it on Jan. 30, 2009 late on a Friday evening. Obama, you’re transparency is as big lie, just like your “NO lobbyist will serve in my Whitehouse”. It’s seems that being a tax cheet is a prerequiste for a spot on Obama’s cabinet.

If you or I missed anything on our income tax statement, the IRS would go full force after us to get the taxes and penalties…down to the last dime, even if it meant losing our homes. If you enter politics, political capital is gained when you can call someone on something. That is the ONLY reason Daschle has paid these taxes – someone knows.
Think about your own little acts of greed. Your own little “white lies” on your tax forms.
What about the good in this new administration:
Think about the fact that we have all of this out in the open and debated.
Think about the fact we will have online reporting of government spending.
Think about the fact that Obama has prevented lobbyists from bringing their interests into government and vice versa.

WE will never have perfect representatives. They represent us and are us with all of their good and bad qualities.

I can see that Friday evening is going to be the only time for real news in the next 4 years and the only time to catch even a hint about the corrupt happenings in this administration. In a week and a half Obama has had more real(non-manufactured) scandals with his administration than Bush did in all 8 years.

My favorite part of all of this is that with all of these tax cheats and crooks being put up for appointment is that the White House keeps issuing statements that these are honest mistakes that shouldn’t hold up the nominations for the because these are the right people for the job. Thw White House should be barred from issuing any statement or influence until the process is over. Daschle is obviously lying when he says he discussed this situation and they realized there was a problem that they would “fix” when they make their April, 2009 filing for the 2008 tax year.
How about a little truth here:
Delinquent taxes accrue interest and penalties monthly. There is no appropriate reason to delay the filing of an amended return……..but for delaying this until April 15, 2009 would provide at least one year of expiration of the “statute of limitations” namely an expiration of the statute on the 2005 tax year.
This is patently a lie, spin, obstructification of the truth. He was trying to avoid yet another year, which tells me he really wasn’t going to do this at all until the nomination came up. He asked the question in the Summer of 2008 to his accountant because he already knew the answer and he saw by then that Obama would very possibly be elected and he would need to clean up his resume.
Just more of the Culture of Corruption by those holier than thou Democrats who want to tax everyone with some change while exempting themselves.

I am amazed are these not the same individuals that say the rich are not paying their fair share of taxes. It is called an error in news reports, but maybe just maybe it is intentional. Because it appears the laws to pay taxes always apply to the one who makes more than the politician (recently all Democrat) who have lied on their taxes or employed illegal aliens. I thought there was to be a new standard a new paradigm established in Washington with the coming of our Messiah. In reality it is more of the same crap. Have you ever thought why a person who wants to be a politician, it cannot be the $165,000 they earn because surely with their talent they have earned more than that in private industry. Think about it for a minute, these people like Mr. Daschle have a sense of entitlement that they are better than you and I, and their ideas are better than yours and mine, let alone the narcissism and megalomania. It has been said it is not how much money you have but how much you control. Now think about it for a moment 535 senators and representatives control the entire budget of the US about $3.1 TRILLION and 300 million Americans. Control the money your control the people. That is what it is about, controlling our lives, to have us become dependent upon them financially so we have to vote for the likes of Daschel so we can keep receiving from the Government. I bet you think this guy is cynical, you are damn right. How many of you when you are in debt over your head can go out and borrow an excessive amount of money and honestly believe that borrowing the money will take care of the problems?

The culture of corruption in the Democratic party is unmatched in modern history. Not only do they pay-to-play, and cheat the American tax payer but when they are about to get vetted for a position that requires integrity, they come clean, fully expecting they will get a pass. And they will get a pass because those that sit in judgment are thinking to themselves, “for the same price, that could be me and party before righteousness”

Hawaii did not affirm that nothing fishy was going on, so you have misstated the facts. By law, Hawaii cannot reveal anything more than that it has the document. He is spending lots of money in court trying to prevent having to show his birth certificate to anybody. What he posted was a summary document called a “Certification of Live Birth.” It is not a birth certificate. And Hawaii issued such certifcation documents to parents of children born outside of the United States.
We will find out whether he’s a fraud or not, and he will suffer the consequences if he is a fraud. If he does the right thing, he may not spend the rest of his life in prison (or worse).- I mean, my God, all the man has to do is release his birth certificate, but he won’t do it. Normal people have a typical reaction to that fact.

I think we’ve now found a way to avoid pumping tax dollars that we can’t afford into a flailing economy. We can capture many millions of dollars if Obama will just go one by one to each of the Senators and Congressmen and tell them he’s considering them for some appointed position. Even after leaving the Senate this guy continued his dis-regard of paying his share of taxes. Talk about pulling the wool over our eyes by saying he made some mistakes. Being he was formerly a Lawmaker in the US Senate I cannot believe the “Errors” were only honest mistakes. Wonder if he knows someone on the inside of the IRS as they to failed to catch the errors. We have FBI Agents in all US States and perhaps they need to do some more investigating to catch the rest of all those culprits.

Timothy Geithner was confirmed as Obama’s Treasury Secretary after it was disclosed that he was a serial tax evader and had a “nannygate” problem. Now it is discovered that Tom Daschle is also a tax evader but he’ll be confirmed and join Obama’s administration too.
Linda Chavez might have been confirmed if she was a tax evader as well as having a “nannygate” problem.. But maybe not considering Wesley Snipes was jailed for tax evasion.
It looks like there are higher standards for Black men and Hispanic women than for rich White men.

This just blows my mind. Yet one more Democrat has been found with some sort of fraud in his past. Isn’t it time that the American people woke up and realize the Democratic party has put all morals and integrity by the wayside. They are in it for themselves and themselves alone. When I sent in my tax return a day late the IRS sent me a notice to pay penalities. Did these guys pay penalties? If yes, why is it not reported? If no, why not?

Imagine the decisions that will be made then on who does & does not receive care…..ask the UK & Canada how that works. If we get upset over Daschle’s tax cheatin’, wait till you are told you do not need that new heart because you are a 68 year old white man and you will probably die by 74…..just not a good “investment”.

When you working folks are doing your income taxes this year, keep in mind how high-paid, do-nothing democrats handle their own taxes.
If the IRS comes calling to question your return, offer to pay the taxes.
But refuse to pay any penalties. After all – equal protection under the law is in the US Constitution. You should be treated no differently that Daschle or Geithner.

I find interesting Sen Ted Stevens gets convicted for basically the same thing. He gets ousted from the Senate and Daschle a democrat gets to become HHS secretary. Then there is Blago why did the prosecuter pull the plug so early. He should have waited until a crime had been committed, but He didnt want the web to ensnarl the Pres. and that wonderful caring human being Rahm Emanuel. If there was any sense of ethics and morality Obama should dismiss Dascle and Emanuel, “just for the appearance of inpropiety” Remember that one.

Confiscating small portions of money (45%) from the rich and returning it to the People who are the money’s rightful owners is just and equitable. In the future there will be no taxes as there will be nothing to collect. Obama will be the People’s only employer and will keep all their earnings. Instead of salaries, the State will distribute goods and services based on one’s good conduct.

Unlike Geithner, this may have been a mistake rather than the deliberate fraud that Geithner did. I use Turbo-tax, and I know the only way to avoid the automatic payroll tax calculations is to enter false data. You can’t just make a mistake and forget. Cantor had it right, it is easy to advocate higher taxes, when one doesn’t pay them. Perhaps V.P. I am FURIOUS.The politicans decide to suddenly amend their taxes because they’ve become high profile in a political campaign. Big deal he asked about it in June. HE KNEW about otherwise why ask the tax guy to begin with? We are sitting here struggling to pay an IRS bill every month because of having to use our 401K due to disability. We should have ignored filing taxes and paying taxes like so many democrats do. Why don’t these guys get caught? To “Just Facts.” You say you pay all that you legally owe. This inherently means that you know and understand all of the tax code which I doubt…. If you are talking as a person who receives a W-2 from your employer and that is every dime of income you enjoy then it is simple to declare your income. But if you are a person who would file a long form with any number of supplemental forms then I would bet you are quite naive about tax law as there are volumes of information that change annually. What I have seen during the Bush Administration is a vast movement toward a difference in telling a lie and getting caught. We are not even a month into the new administration and republicans are trying every dirty trick to thwart Obama from doing his job.

As a former Senate staffer (Wilson CA). I have found the vast majority of members, of both parties, over time become out of touch with reality. Senator Daschle is no exception.

President George W. Bush showed nothing but class throughout his presidency and restored class to the presidency and showed respect for the White House and the Oval Office. Tom Daschle seems to be a felony pick-pocket Per this ABCNews article Daschle apparently knew for “five months” he owed taxes for failing to report limo services as income (for three tax years) BUT (which means Behold the Underlying Truth) the tax cheat did not actually pay any back taxes and submit amended returns until “during” the vetting process. In other words he kept silent and did nothing until he stood to get caught when trying to enrich himself with a senior White House appointment.
At a minimum Daschle actions are a civil violation of the US Tax Law and possibly criminal.
A fine example of leadership for the proposed Secretary of Health and Human Services. When will Daschle start his seminars to prospective public assistance recipients on how to hide income from the government to gain bigger welfare checks, food stamps, abortions, birth control, medical care, and housing – and of course pay less taxes?
The Senate now has a responsibility to find out what Daschle knew of his limo tax issues, when he knew it, and when he paid the taxes. For example, was Daschle sent 1099s for the limo services and shouldn’t InterMedia Advisors be fined if it did not send 1099s? If in fact Daschle did not immediately report and pay the taxes when he had knowledge of the tax law requirements, then he should be rejected from any public appointment.
Rob Blagojevich was unanimously tossed out of an elected office without any civil or criminal trial and he didn’t actually steal money from taxpayers. Obama and the Senate should not condone and reward alleged felony tax cheats by putting such persons into White House leadership roles. If they do not drop Daschle, then the Obama administration earns the insult of having ethics standards lower than infamous Illinois. If Daschle is confirmed, apparently change came to Washington – thug sizzle worse than Illinois politics.

IT IS NOT TAX EVASION when the tax error is presented by the taxpayer (and/or their tax preparer) TO the IRS.
The matter is satisfied when the tax is paid with penalties and interest
Take a few minutes to become informed before you rant on and on… you are on the internet, this isn’t difficult to research.

How would you define it when someone admits that he would not have paid the taxes, he knew he owed, if he had not been nominated? Also, why was the new Secretary of the Treasury allowed to pay just the taxes, without interest or penalties?

I travel to NYC on a regular basis, and I understand that it can be expensive to get around, but what exactly is the do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do party trying to sell us now? I may be a bit cynical, but I suspect that there is quite a bit more to this story than has been told (admitted to?) so far.

The government wants us to car-pool to save congestion and gas, but then wants to tax the free ride as income.

Which political party is more despicable? The Democrats, who preach Marxism, but whose leaders live like royalty, or the Republicans, who preach free markets, but operate by privatized profits and socialized losses? They are both owned by Wall Street, and both depend on a brainwashed citizenry who thinks Government is our Almighty Savior.

The “real” question is – if Daschle had not been considered for this cabnet post, do you think he would have revised his tax records and paid the tax plus penalties? I don’t think.

If Geithner and Daschle can’t figure out how to pay their taxes, how can the average citizen be expected to get it right or go to jail.

It is time to simplify the tax code and to hold politicians to the same standard as the average citizen.

This is just one example of how ignorant people and media run over things, I don’t think having a driver is such a big deal, but the whole relation with fundraiser who help funding politicians then hire them when retired, and offered a free car!

Georges Marciano who has been begging the IRS to audit him for over three years states that he owes IRS in the millions …..yes I said millions. I have emailed the IRS, we have sent letters. He has received a refund check from them and at the same time they sent him a letter stating he never filed? Georges has sent all the documents to the IRS, FBI, Los Angeles Sherriffs department, Beverly Hills police department and yet nothing….they have not even assigned anyone to the case….

Daschle made hundreds of thousands of dollars, perhaps millions, from advising the healthcare industry over the last few years. So now Obama has now appointed him to direct the government’s healthcare program. Sounds like the fox is guarding the hen house. Does Obama even have a clue?

So, we have a lying financial swindler, a CEO who presided over the complete destruction of CitiBank, an incompetent who wrecked our intelligence community and took unwarranted bonuses from the lying financial swindler, an Assistant AG who pardoned an international criminal and a group of Puerto Rican terrorists, a tax cheat, and another even bigger tax cheat who unbelievably is supposed to be in charge of the treasury. Saturday Night Live couldn’t come up with this rogue’s gallery in the worst of their parodies. Yes, it’s against the law to cheat on taxes, but regardless of which candidates cheated on their taxes, they didn’t misguide us into a war that cost our country a trillion dollars.
Why does that excuse Rove, Libby, Cheney and Bush? Seems like this is slightly more serious than not paying taxes? Our country would be thriving if the Republicans had done their jobs for the last 8 years. The Deomocrats always take the blunt of mistakes made by the Republican party and have to clean up their messes. President Obama will lead us out of the deep recession that we are in, and once again, the Democrats will help the middle-class and lower-class families.

Oh no more bad news for Obama. Key indicators are looking better, especially in the housing market. Even with Obama bad mouthing the economy day in and day out, it is improving. Maybe we don’t need to blow trillions on Democrat garbage.

That is one of the dumbest things anyone has ever said and it is precisely and exactly backwards. When George Bush entered office, Mohamed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi and Hani Hanjour were all here in the United States and had completed their flight training by the end of 2000. Their visas had already expired and no one knew where they were on the day that Bush was inaugurated. The economy was in a recession following the massive corporate fraud that occurred during the stock market bubble. Now, the sub-prime mortgage binge that was at the core of the housing bubble has blown up in our face. Those idiotic policies were the primary (not exclusive) cause of the economic meltdown we are experiencing now. If Barney Frank and the other Democrat idiots in congress hadn’t run interference for Fannie and Freddie, maybe this wouldn’t have happened. There’s a lot more but obviously liberals couldn’t care less about the facts.
From the very beginning, Bush was cleaning up the mess that Clinton left for him. Reagan had to clean up the mess that Carter left for him. In contrast, Clinton inherited an economy that had grown by over 4% for the full year before he entered office and he was free of the cold war that Republicans had won for us all. Obama is merely dealing with the results of the idiotic policies that Clinton, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelick and the rest of the crooks in the Democrat party started. Now Obama wants to take the crisis that the Democrats caused and use it to expand size and power of the government.
