How Caroline Kennedy Ended Her Bid
Here’s what we know: Caroline Kennedy’s advisers and friends believed she would be appointed to Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat later this week, and were working with New York Gov. Paterson’s intermediaries on the roll out.
They fully expected it to come.
But then sometime early yesterday evening, around the time Clinton resigned her Senate seat, Kennedy called New York Gov. Paterson and said she was withdrawing for personal reasons.
Now, that set off another flurry of activity where it appears that some on Paterson’s team tried to convince her not to withdraw.
The Associated Press then reported Kennedy was not withdrawing. But then there was another conference call just around midnight, and Kennedy finally, finally withdrew.
Her team put out a statement saying … it was over, she is out, it is done.
All we know from her camp is that the reasons for her dropping out are "personal."
–George Stephanopoulos
UPDATE 2:25pm: A source insists that the "private matter" that caused Caroline Kennedy to withdraw from Senate consideration is NOT related to her uncle, Sen. Ted Kennedy’s health.
It is a "very private family matter" that came to light this week, after Sunday, a source tells me.
Caroline felt that New York Gov. Paterson was prepared to offer her the Senate seat, but this family matter made it clear to her that she had to "be at home, instead of in the Senate."
Caroline called the Governor late yesterday afternoon to withdraw. He asked her to reconsider. After more thought last night, she decided to "put family first."

You beltway, east coast elites are so out of touch. Whether a Kennedy or a Cuomo or a Clinton, just move aside and let somebody else in. Can’t we move power away from these perennial elites?
Bushes are just as bad. Move aside people. Let others, more qualified serve. Period.

I would love to find out the behind the scenes details of why she was even considered.
Throw in how Geithner could be considered for Treasury even after his tax evasion was known to the Transition Team and I guarantee buying the book.

Reports are coming out now that she was told by Paterson on Tuesday that she would not be picked. That’s why she was so withdrawn at the Inauguration.
Given that every single poll showed that most New Yorkers wanted Cuomo, and with her numbers tanking every day, she must have been delusional to think it was in the bag for her.
My bet is that it’s Kirsten Gillibrand.

Good! The process reeked of nepotism from the very beginning. While I do not know Ms. Kennedy, I find it appalling that she almost became a U.S. Senator not because of her qualifications (which she did not have) but because of her last name. Welcome to America the thrid world country.

The last thing we needed was another flaming elite liberal stuffed into our already worthless 111th Do Nothing Democrat Congress that’s been running our economy into the ground since taking responsibility for it over two years ago.
We need competent people in Washington DC.
My beef is less with Obama and more with Nancy and Harry running the economy. I don’t think either one of them even knows the ABC’s without singing them………….sad

Oh sure. “Personal” reasons. Her rollout was a fiasco and Paterson would have looked like a fool if he had given her the job. Go back to having teas Caroline. You are better suited for that.

As I understood it more people wanted Cuomo rather than Kennedy, but the number was not a majority of New Yorkers. Nonetheless I am glad that Caroline withdrew, she has no background, and she is probably the only public figure who gives W a run for his money in “speechifying.”

Hey guys, she probably has a home in Hyannis Port Mass. I imagine that that would meet those residency requirements. Then Uncle Teddy can retire and the Kennedy seat would go to Caroline Uh you know Kennedy Schlossberg. Anyone notice how quickly she cut her husbands name out of hers when all this started. I guess Kennedy has more political clout than Schlossberg.

how can people say she had no qualifications? just being a lawyer is the basis upon which most young senators (including a former one by the name of Obama) run! i heard RFK Jr. on ‘morning joe’ today, and he said he thought “someone in her immediate family might have been reluctant.” tortured phrasing to be sure, but it sounds like her fam was upset by the whole process, so she pulled out.
i think she had ample qualifications, and i think she could have grown into a strong, capable senate leader. all the other lawyers in the running, who have similar qualifications, could do likewise. but none of them are any better than her. so quit being so petty about what the kennedys have that you don’t. it shows, and it makes you look ridiculous.

I’m commenting on Partricks comment (pasted below) I’m curious about Partrick referring to the criminal statues in the grand commonwealth of Massachusetts! Are these statues made of bronze or granite? Where are they located? It might be fun to take a field trip (weather permitting)to view these criminal statues! Which criminal in Massachusetts is honored with the largest statue? Are they located in the capitol? Oh alright……back to the subject! Caroline Kennedy is, at the very least, smart enough to realize she had to withdraw…what was she thinking in the first place ??

Caroline Kennedy is in `name’ only. She has no talent, somewhat ignorant, communicates as though she’s 15 and has accumulated enormous wealth through daddy, grandparents, uncles, aunts and other relationships. So for the most part, she’s a ZERO.
The real reason why she withdrew from consideration is because she couldn’t tolerate getting up at 5:00am and actually going to work! I heard that she asked, “what’s a W-4 and an exemption”?

Caroline really wasted a lot of people’s time and energy that could have been productively used to look at other pressing concerns of the public. It is so startling and sad, really sad, that someone like her, with all that money and relatives who are fairly articulate, doesn’t even have people who love her enough to have told her she had a serious problem with the English language like an adult. A family intervention should have occurred rather than this sideshow we’ve just seen.

At least the one advantage Caroline had over Hillary is that she ACTUALLY lived in NY for some of here life. The carpetbagging Ms. Clinton found that NY has such lax candidacy laws that she had to ‘reside’ her for 30 days! only to be eligable. She had no connection to NY, had never even been to most of Upstate NY (which is btw, the largest portion, much bigger than NYC really) EVER. She could not have possibly known any of the issues about NY whose constituency she represented, and was largely just trying to keep her name in the paper so that she could run for a bigger public office later. Oh yes, she did get that even if she failed at a presidential bid, well I guess it worked either way for her this election cycle.

czervik: I don’t hate anyone. I was responding to someone who had to bring up Ted and Mary Jo, as though that has anything to do with Caroline Kennedy and her bid for the senate seat. Although I think Kennedy should have spent time in the slammer over Mary Jo Kopechne, why is he the “bad guy” and Bush can have 4,000 killed in Iraq over a pack of lies and he’s not the bad guy. And YES I make the same argument about Vietnam — I was in the Army at the time too.

Gee Kimster, being a lawyer makes you qualified to be a national leader? You can thank lawyers for the high cost of doing business in the US. You can thank lawyers for the high cost of health care in the US. Most Senators and Representatives are indeed lawyers and we have almost 11 trillion in national debt. Being a lawyer in my opinion should disqualify you from being a senator. The lawyers have destroyed the nation. Start electing common sense business leaders and managers and we may have a chance to make things better. Electing lawyers like Obama and Kennedy is a sure recipe for more disaster. The dumbest things I have ever heard from so called leaders were spoken by Harvard educated lawyers. These are not smart people. The average high school dropout janitor is smarter than many of these people.

Kristen Gillibrand – she’s my congresswoman and is just beginning her second 2-year term in the House. She has no experience to be Senator. Her grandmother (it is rumored) was the long time squeeze of Mayor Erastus Corning of Albany and that’s how she got this job in the first place. And Randi Weingarten – loud mouthed rabble rouser from NYC – no. Gov Patterson is proving he is not only blind but dumb. Upstate New Yorker.

I’m betting the “personal reasons” were twofold: 1) She doesn’t want to get hammered, and 2) there was no way around the financial disclosure business, which she was unwilling to do.
Posted by: Steve | January 22, 2009, 9:27 am 9:27 am
Maybe Caroline realized that she was not cut out for the job. She is a smart lady with years of philienthropic (sp) experience. That does not mean she has what it takes to be a politician. She cannot handle the pressure of the press. This does not mean she is stupid. The President (a former Constitutional law professor) and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court two men who should know the Constitution messed up on Tuesday. They are not stupid. They were nervous. Caroline has spent her whole life hating the press and hiding from them. She cannot make friends with them over night.

Isn’t it ironic that the commitment and wisdom she exercised in withdrawing her name for the NY Senate position are the very attributes we seek of our political leaders! She showed them, didn’t she!
Posted by: lstaud | January 22, 2009, 9:29 am 9:29 am
Caroline is a very nice lady, and seems to be likeable, but that appointment would have been wrong. It`s difficult to see how her living standards and wealth could instruct her in the needs and wishes of the average constituent. It mightn`t be so bad to give it to an upstate politician, just to give those people a direct input into the U.S Senate deliberative process.

when you’re insulated you begin to believe your own press–or the press about your family.
The truth is, today most people don’t care about/aren’t awed by the kennedy name and many people, especially young, don’t really know or care about the Kennedys.
What’s more, with Ted ill–and he being the last Kennedy with any clout–modern politicians (such as Patterson) have no fear of retribution/cannot be threatened into complying with ridiculous ideas of naming a Kennedy to the senate simply because she’s a Kennedy
It’s over….thank God

Kitty,
An individual is always blinded by the kind of hatred you exhibit. That measure of hatred always “blinds” its owner. You accuse others of unfairly dragging Teddy and Mary Jo (you are justified in being angry about that) into the equation of Caroline’s bid for that Senate seat….but take a look at how you do the same thing with the Bushes with your prior comment…and I quote from you ” It is scary though that the next generation of Bushes might somehow qualify for political office ” Ya see, Kitty…….you will always accuse others of what you do yourself. You might want to re-visit your statement of not “hating” anyone. Put some thought into it……think about it.

When the founding fathers established the republic I believe the intent was that political positions were to be a patriotic duty. What Washington has become is a cash cow for an elitist group of people. America needs unbiased oversight, term limits and strict prosecution for these “representatives of the people” for the crimes they have committed. The American people need to hold all of them accountable for their misdeeds. We need tort reform and some common sense put back in our court rooms before it is too late. Ever wonder why nearly all politicians are lawyers?

I forgot about the 50 million people liberated by George Bush (thank you Mr Bush!). I forgot about the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed by Saddam Hussein, and the hundreds of thousands who now will not die under his murderous regime. I forgot about how Hussein fired on US and Coalition aircraft every day for eight years during Clinton’s do-nothing presidency. I forgot about the close realtionship between Hussein and bin Laden’s deputies and Hussein’s harnoring terrorists.
I promise to lose my Bush Derangement Syndrome and engage in rational logical thought supported by facts. I realize that my hatred for Pres. Bush is no different than and just as irrational as the hate the Islamofascists have for the Joooos.

How about picking some poor taxpayer with an AGI of under 100k, with only a public school education (College is OK if it was a CCNY night school or a community college), with a family of at least two kids. For one six year term, at which time, the clock will strike 12, the carriage turns back into a pumpkin, and that person — man or woman — returns to private life. I think NY, the country, and the world would be well represented.
Never happen, but an interesting thought experiment!

With Obama leading the USA to socialism, increased class envy/class warfare, fewer individual freedoms, less incentive to achieve, more ‘victimization,’ increased government, increased taxing and spending, closing Gitmo, and no new coal or nuclear plants allowed to be built, this decision is probably the most intelligent one that has been made so far! God help us, because the Democrats sure won’t.

Finally, one of these inbred, degenerate elitists that believes they are entitled to rule has been sent packing. If she is a product of the best education, best teachers, best advantages available, then how did she end up sounding like the cross between a valley girl and a gang member? It’s time to focus on people that are qualified or at least those that can string a sentence together without a “you know” every 9th word. Again we quote Bill Clinton’s mentor, “The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to doctrinaire and academic thinkers. Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can “throw the rascals out” at any election without leading to any profound or extensive shifts in policy.”

Dear Queen Caroline:
As I genuflect before your blessed iconic picture, allow me to humbly apologize on behalf of the ignorant unwashed masses. The average American is too stupid to know what they are missing in keeping the incredible power of your awesome intellect out of the Senate. Let’s speak Truth to Power: you are too smart and too qualified to be in the Senate. You’d make all the other Senators and even Obama look bad. You’d expose what unqualified mental lightweights they are.
Yet the unfairness remains: You are entitled, you are the sacred Chosen One, no matter what Obama calls himself. You should NEVER be denied anything you want. The US, nay the entire universe, exists only to gratify your every whim without a second of delay. The horror of even the possibility that you might be denied a wish is almost too much to bear. Do I want to live in a world so cruel?
Perhaps, in your infinite graciousness, there might be comnpromise. Would it please your Highness if we rewrote the Constitution to require your permission for every act performed by everyone on Earth and other inhabited planets? It would be fitting: 7 billion humans and countless other alien creatures begging prostrate at the feet of your Highness, as it should be. Would such homage be sufficient for you?

Justice served for the good people of NY. Why would a socialite-philanthropist be deemed fit to serve as one of 50 U.S. Senators — especially in these tough times? If she wants to be a U.S. Senator, she needs to earn it like everyone else. She can run in NY in 2012. Novelty and patrimony are not qualifications for high office.

My take on it is that neither she or the Kennedy family wanted to be obligated to support Paterson for election in two years. Reports that Paterson would have the full support of the Kennedy family, including resources and political organization, should Caroline get the seat were probably the deal breaker. The Kennedy’s would never give that comittment, they would, however, expect it from someone else.

I have a feeling she was probably told that she wasn’t going to be picked. Since she was a KENNEDY they probably told her she could withdraw her name to make it seem as if it was her choice and even probably started rumors that she was the one who would have been senator. Please don’t compare her to Hillary Clinton. Hillary has been involved in politics for years and was aware of what was going on. Caroline Kennedy didn’t even vote in certain elections, didn’t know what was going on in New York and Obama was the first person she ever endorsed for president. You can’t take a job on name only – she was way inexperienced.

Kennedy has done nothing but move money around. Sharp as a tack? The only intelligent Kennedy is already dead. The ones that are with us now are nothing but a collection of buffoons and idiots, including Princess Caroline. Even JFK would have went down as a mediocre president at best had it not been for the assasination. He was however, much more intelligent than the remaining Kennedys. The dumbest words spoken have been uttered by Harvard and Yale graduates. These are ivy league schools. That does not mean that intelligence abounds there. It means that rich daddy sends his kids there and every now and then, out of fairness, they extend a token acceptance to a minority like Obama. Not everybody that attends Harvard is dumb, but if they are intelligent, they were so before they attended Harvard. “Ask not what your country can do for you” is one of the best and smartest quotes ever. Too bad todays democrats including Kennedy’s family do not still believe in that ideal. Unfortunately, neither do todays republicans in power. Wake up America!!

How do we know Obama has a brilliant mind? He won’t release any college transcripts, he was a US Senator for about 15 minutes with no accomplishments there, as an Illinois Senator he voted “present” 134 times. How is saying you’re for “change” brilliant? He’s appointed more Clintonites than Clinton did, he picked a tax cheat for treasurer. I’m failing to see brilliant or change. Please explain.
Posted by: Anon | January 22, 2009, 11:00 am 11:00 am
Just how brilliant is Obama when he doesn’t notice all of the corrupt people he was working with?
I for one don’t like working with corrupt brilliant people. Maybe you do.
I want to work with virtuous people who I can trust.

There was reportedly something in the background check that Governor Patterson didn’t like. No word on what that was.
It must be a jolt for Caroline to realize that the people of New York did not fall at her feet and beg her to take the seat.

“DelegateMath,

The original question was astute because it makes no sense to write a list of qualifications for some one to be a US senator. If you really want one, I’ll just give you that one again. Passing a simple math test given by a reporter is no guarantee that you are going to be a good senator. But if she fails this one like G. W. Bush, she is surely incompetent and should not even be considered.

I can’t believe how mean and self-satisfied we are. As if we know who Caroline really is beyond the Camelot fairytale we’ve created for her. And how dare her step out of that story we love to recite. Caroline’s talents will still be used to benefit many without her subjecting herself to all this public scrutiny. And many of these people who criticize her will be served by those talents. I’m glad she made it out of the lion’s den of public scrutiny before she was dismembered.

I’m glad CK withdrew herself from consideration for the senate. From what I’ve been reading about Gillibrande (sp?) she seems pretty solid. She’s a Democrat from a very Republican district and keeps winning her seat. Seems like a fair compromise, although nothing short of a wingnut will ever satisfy a wingnut.

Good! The process reeked of nepotism from the very beginning. While I do not know Ms. Kennedy, I find it appalling that she almost became a U.S. Senator not because of her qualifications (which she did not have) but because of her last name. Welcome to America the Third world country.

Stu – I agree with you completely, but then you ruined it by calling America a Third World Country.
Have you ever travelled outside of America?
Do you really no know how good we have it here?
Do you take for granted that woman are allowed to go to school past elementary school?
Do you take for granted how many people own their homes (and were smart enough to only buy a home they could afford)?
Do you take for granted that we just smoothly elected a new leader for this country?
Do you take for granted that we have the capability to even have trillions of dollars of debt?
Give me a break. People need to stop complaining and make something of their life. The only thing that is Third World here some peoples mentality!

The public did not warmly embrace her as NY Senator, nor did the media. She was harshly criticised on several fronts, something she is unused to having happen. She would have to open her personal life (marriage is shaky) and financials (including settlement with her brother’s fiance’s family) to the public…..she had never been in a kitchen, and did not realize how uncomfortably hot it got in there.

BTW, I agree with those who suggest that Ted Kennedy’s health may have played a role in this decision. But if Princess Caroline moves to Massachusetts to take Uncle Teddy’s seat when he passes away, that will be just about the lowest the Kennedy family has ever stooped to.
As for intelligence and New England universities, its long been my experience that people go to Harvard and Yale because they were too dumb to get into MIT.

Is this the first time any of you have watched liberals and their politics?
This is some of the many reasons they are referred to as left wing loonies.
They have a thought, they act on it, they have another thought that contradicts the first thought, they know they are always right, and so they act on it. They then have another conflicting thought. By now they have another “cause” to crusade for so they need to appoint a committee to investigate it as they have no time to waste on that.
Hence the word “loonies” has become one of the more civilized phrases used to describe them.

My guess for the reason she dropped out: This is the first time, as a Kennedy/Camelot scion, that she’s actually faced harsh criticism. She’s never had to work a day in her life; could pick and choose which charities and causes she’d donate to (and receive gratitude and worship) and support; and now, facing the REAL public instead of her hand-picked fellow elites, the harsh glare of reality finally hit her square in the face. What average, everyday people face every minute of their lives, she couldn’t take anymore.

She probably realized that she really did not have the stomach for politics. She also likely saw the writing on the wall that her appointment was not going to be readily accepted by the people of New York, who wanted Cuomo over her.
She seems like a decent, albeit pampered person who had no background in politics and did not have the motivation to work for it.

I think George Stephanopoulos – who is usually quite reliable – seems to be sort of mia on this one – he keeps referring to “Kennedy’s advisors” as saying she was on track to get it – well, what else would her advisors say? Others, more attune to NY politics, seem to be indicating Patterson had decided to give it to someone else, and that’s why she backed out; that certainly seems a good deal more plausible. This is one case where reporters with more of an ear to NY than Washington may have the real scoop. One can only say that either way, to have thrown her hat in the ring, and then at the last second to have removed it, is only an indication that Ms. Kennedy was not ready for this. I still think she can make a great contribution, as she has, and will.

actually, what you are all upset about is that any governor is, ever, empowered to make such an imperial appointment of a U.S. Senator. that’s a legit beef, but it’s a beef with state laws in general.
CK was as qualified as anyone, has written books on American History and the Constitution, has run foundations and raised a ton of money, and could easily have excelled in this job. it just is not, at the moment, an elected office. it is an appointment, and it will be an appointment, whether Paterson appoints your paperboy or my mailman to fill the spot. a ridiculous controversy about nothing.

Why is it “hating women” just because many of us felt Caroline Kennedy was unqualified for the job?
Just because I am vocal in my opinion that Roland Burris was unqualified to receive his appointment (albeit, I do think he was more qualified than Ms. Kennedy), does this mean that I also “hate blacks”?
Evidently, to read some of these comments, it does.
What is wrong with wanting the simple demand that people who hold public office be actually qualified for the job, instead of placed out of some sense of political priviledge or entitlement? ESPECIALLY when the job is appointed, and not decided upon by the voters?

It simply amazes me that somehow all you people find Caroline Kennedy objectionable because she stumbled in one interview by over using the phrase “you know”. Take a good hard look at the complete idiot “you people” elected to two terms as our president. George Bush was unable to string two complete grammatically correct sentences together for eight years. He was an embarrasment to our country and the world community. Please tell me that Georgie actually earned those degrees at Harvard and Yale. After watching him over the last eight years, there is no way he learned anything in college. He can’t even speak the english language.

Silky: ‘As for Obama not having experience…well, many of us value a brilliant mind at work over “experience.”‘
I have an IQ of 159 (which is probably higher than Obama), but I have no medical experience whatsoever. Let me know if you have any surgical needs, I’m sure I can bid less than the “experienced” surgeons.
By your argument results won’t matter. All that will matter in the long run is whether or not people “felt good” about him. How can he possibly fail with everyone fainting at his majestic image? Our country, on the other hand, certainly will. Obama has no management experience at all. He hasn’t even been a manager at WalMart, and now he’s the Chief Executive of the entire country. How much sense does that make?
If he’s so “brilliant”, and that’s all that matters, why doesn’t he fly Air Force One all by himself?
Face it, you wouldn’t trust a doctor, pilot, plumber, or carpenter who didn’t have experience. Yet you’ll put someone into the office of President of the United states just because he’s 1) Black [let's be honest here], 2) Has a pleasant smile, and 3) Is capable of making a good speech [according to some at least]. That alone qualifies someone, at least in your mind, to make decisions for the entire country.
I think a lot of people think like you do. That is why, as far as the country goes, the patient is near death and the plane is spinning out of the sky. Our country is in serious, serious trouble because we’ve entrusted it to the people with the biggest advertising budget. And that goes for BOTH parties.
We deserve every bit of what is on the horizon right now.

“His dad is from Africa and didn’t have US citizenship, his mom is white, how come he becomes African-American?”
In this country, if you LOOK like an African-American you’re considering African-American. If you have any African blood and look African-American, you are absolutely considered African-American. Stop playing dumb, people.

I think she did the right thing.
A person with that much money can do just about anything she wants. She probably didn’t relish the prospect of schmoozing, bickering, cajoling, and sitting through a few thousand mind-numbing committee meetings. She’s still plenty young enough—and plenty wealthy enough–to enjoy life.
For a person with a strong desire to serve the public, a senate appointment may have made sense. But lacking that, she could well have turned out like her uncle— squatting on a senate seat for decades only to push others around, satisfy his ego, and perpetuate his family’s “contribution” to the political landscape. Instead, she graciously declined for her benefit as well as ours. That, my friends, is class.

“I have an IQ of 159 (which is probably higher than Obama), but I have no medical experience whatsoever. Let me know if you have any surgical needs, I’m sure I can bid less than the “experienced” surgeons.”
Because the office of the President covers a MUCH broader range of issues. It’s a lot of prioritizing and delegating, appointing good decision-makers, etc. Nobody in Washington, short of people with experience as Senior White House Staff have much in the way of relevant experience for the office of the Presidency. The surgeon and pilot analogies are bad. And a 159 IQ? What are you doing here?

JFK’s “CAMELOT” — A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE –
Both Edward Moore “Ted” – hiccups — Kennedy and now Hardball” host Chris Matthews, on October 4, 2000, the ten-year anniversary of “Hardball, have said they’re glad Cheney and George Bush weren’t in office during the 1962, Cuban Missile Crisis…
Linking JFK with Camelot, Jackie Kennedy remarked that “There’ll be great presidents again… but there’ll never be another Camelot.”
Don’t let it be forgot
That once there was a spot
for one brief, shining moment that
was known as Camelot.
I don’t remember it that way!
Looking back on the Cuban Missile Crisis, October 14 – 29, 1962, I remember President John F. Kennedy bringing America to the Brink of a Thermonuclear War, 90 miles off the Coast of Florida. The Russians had delivered nuclear Tipped Missiles to Cuba, and the BLOCKADE was almost too late!
On Monday, October 22, 1962, the Democratic controlled Senate leaders called for air strikes, against the SAM (Surface to Air Missiles) sites in Cuba.
In October 1962, High Schools throughout the United States participated in nuclear attack “drills”, having students get underneath classroom desks…lol…. We “feared” an attack was imminent!
Just how was it that Russia already had Missiles in Cuba before John F. Kennedy knew about them?
How was it that John F. Kennedy’s Presidency allowed the Cuban Missile Crisis to occur in the first place?
JFK had threatened Russia with Nuclear War if they didn’t get them out!
The United States and Russia was on the Brink of Thermo-Annihilation under John F. Kennedy’s Presidency, and if Russia hadn’t blinked, the world would look differently today.
And yet, Ted Kennedy and his fellow radical left-wing–liberal Democrats call John F. Kennedy’s Presidency, “CAMELOT.”
I think NOT!

Let’s give Sarah Palin an anal exam but give Kennedy a pass. How stupid the American public must be not to see past this obvious liberal slanted view. Caroline Kennedy couldn’t carry Sarah’s

dangerous path paved with liberal social

It’s laughable the way the media has willfully participated in this cynical public relations charade.
Caroline “withdrew” only because it was made clear to her that she was not going to get the nomination, and some Kennedy “face” needed to be saved.
Patterson originally viewed Caroline as his ticket to a second term, but massively negative public sentiment quickly persuaded him that she would instead guarantee his defeat. Plain and simple.
I expect nothing less from Georgie and the rest of the left wing “how can we fool them today” media, but I’m astonished at the number of people who are readily drinking the koolaid. But then, nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.

The qualifications to be a Senator:
(drum roll, please…)
Clause 3: No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years, and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States, and who shall not, when elected, be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.
Anything else that you put in there as a qualification, such as IQ, race, sex, family name, position on choice, guns, gay marriage, whether they like real butter or butter flavored substitute on their popcorn on thursday, is immaterial.
As long as Gov. Peterson adheres to the Constitution of the United States of America and the laws of New York for choosing a replacement to Sen. (now Sec. of State) Clinton, he is well within his rights. Just ask Gov. Blagojavich. (I buthchered his name, please forgive me.)

Hey, Julie: there’s more vitriole, hate and meanness coming from the left than from Rush.
Haven’t you been hearing what’s being said about the Bushes? They presided over the most magnanimous, gracious, smooth transition in history, dealing with (while probably hiding quiet grins about the unbelievably pompous bozo coming in behind them) a clown who won’t prove he’s not a fraud, who developed a fairy-tale(you called that right, bubba) Office of the Pres-Elect, complete with seal, podium and set in order to help everyone start believing he’s for real.
Mrs. Bush dressed appropriately for the Inaugurobamination but got chastised for what she wore – she’s so decent and gracious, chose something that didn’t draw attention to her, graciously allowing michelle obama to shine (in baby poo green, no less) and she gets clobbered. People who have no class don’t understand and can’t appreciate what the Bushes did for the Fraud who’s now turning our country into United Socialist States of America.
Rush Limbaugh calls it what it is – reality, not meanness. Reid, Pelosi and all of the leftist comrades have been unbelievably mean and disrespectful over the years. The Hollywood empty heads have also been unkind.

Kennedy does not have the personality required to compete in the political arena. She has led a private life that is appropriate for her reserved personality. When the camera panned to her and her husband at the inauguration she stared expressionless into the camera. No smile, no friendly wave to the media and the viewing public. It seemed to me then that either she had decided she was no longer interested in being a politician or that she didn’t know how to be a politician. In either case, I’m glad she figured out what she wants or who she is before accepting the gift of a Senate seat that she would probably have lost to a Republican in 2010.

It’s not a law. In the US, you are by and large refered to as what you look like. And in this particular case…Obama…to suggest that he doesn’t qualify as an African-American in the context of him being the first African-American President is asinine.

Boy you figured that out all by your little self George? Congrats!
The best thing about this whole fiasco was that it highlighted the complete hypocrisy of liberals in this country…
They spent months tearing down and slinging mud at Sarah Palin, a self-made woman and with infinitely more class than 99.9% of the politicians in this country and saying that SHE had a lack of experience (after being a mayor and then Governor)… and yet they were ready to bestow a seat in the United States Senate to a woman who was born into wealth and a powerful political family, has NO experience whatsoever, and whose only claim to fame on the national stage is her last name and the fact that her daddy got shot!
That in a nutshell is conservative ideals vs. liberal ideals, and now we get to watch at least 4 more years of liberal ideals unfold. Yay!

Caroline, you know, is not a terribly, you know, person. She has, you know, wealth and everything. She feels a, you know, right to governance. See, you know, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg is, you know, brilliant because she descended from the, you know, Kennedy name.
George W. Bush, on the other hand, you know, had his degree from Yale and Harvard bought by his father.
Caroline, you know, is totally different.
If this woman was not so pathetic, it would be, you know, funny!

“I agree with the assessment that she’s waiting for the Massachusetts seat!”
I doubt it seriously.
And no, I haven’t heard the press conference and was simply playing off of what you were saying. That he needed to refer to the lawyers concerning details of one or more executive orders. He’s made at least three and I imagine he’s had other things going on as well. Just a hunch. But I look forward to finding out what these points that he was soo clueless about are. Are you suggesting that he didn’t author the point, or even read and signed off on them?

Could it be she is ending her bid because she has nanny problems, an affair with the publisher of the NY Times (who endorsed her!!!), and a little problem with tax havens?

“George W. Bush, on the other hand, you know, had his degree from Yale and Harvard bought by his father.”
Not before being rejected from the University of Texas School of Law.

No that’s not what I’m saying, because I know the POTUS authors the Executive Orders, hence the name. So I was shocked when, as the press was asking him questions, he didn’t know the answers. You have to hear it for yourself. Then you’ll see what I mean.
Now don’t get me wrong. I know he has a lot going on, but these were questions he should have known.

the skeltons in the closet that she does not want exposed could well involve family finances, but word on the street in Greenwich Village is that a “very close” family member (hubby?) has a fondness for young men…which would be quite an embarrassment for Kamelot!

Wow! The liberal media is covering up the truth for the Kennedys once again. Governor Paterson told Caroline she was not going to be the choice. She was told to withdraw to save the face of the Kennedy family. The truth is she did not give any money to the NY Democratic Party.
Hey George, let’s face and report the facts.

Thank you for standin’up for me also, SilkPony. After all, I’m just a poor, victimized woman who needs all the help I can get. That’s why Todd is a fixture in the governor’s office also, God bless him. And yes, I am an elected public official also. I was mayor of a town of 6,000 and am currently governor also of the 4th least populous state; less than half the size of the Bronx. And the media’s treatment of me has been hee-nee-us-ly brutal also; it’s costin’ me my stellar approval rating. The people of Alaska used to love me but now they prefer Murkowski 57% to my 33%. And I’m actually very intelligent also. I went to 3 community colleges and 1 university also –twice even – and progressed my education so that I got my bachelors in journalism after only 6 years. Not bad for someone who doesn’t read newspapers or magazines also! I know I can also count on your vote in 2012. Thank you very much, SilkPony. –wink-

Wow. Can you say “vitriol”? To what nether-region has sanity fled? Caroline was smart to take a pass on the job. Although I’m particularly un-fond of the Kennedys in general, she has done nothing to deserve the venom directed at her in this forum. On the contrary, her gracious generosity is enjoyed by many, quite apart from the “Kennedy Center” tributes.
Shame on both sides for the hateful rants displayed here.
That said, next time we have the opportunity, let’s turn all the rascals out and start with a clean slate. Vote every incumbent out. It has to be a better choice than to keep so many corrupt lifetime politicians at the public trough.

Silky????
Do you have a job? If you aren’t gainfully employed, then there are various volunteer organizations that you could be giving your time to. It is very unhealthy for you to be sitting this long at the computer! You should consider setting a timer to remind yourself to take a break (every half hour is good)and stop regaling us with your searing “wisdom” Remember?….Obama told us to be ready to offer up ourselves to service for the ‘greater good’.

SILKY-I train men who eat breakfast 400 yards away from snipers trained to kill them. If any of them are crying I will order a CODE RED! Excuse me. I’ve just recieved orders from the PRESIDENT. It says all Male Marines can now paint their toe nails. ALL YOU PEOPLE DID TODAY IS WEAKEN A NATION!!

“Silky????
Do you have a job?”
Not that it’s any of your business, yes, but I’ve spent the vast majority of the day on conference calls. I don’t sit in front of a computer in my free time. And, in my adult life, when not working for Easter Seals and American Cancer, I have volunteered plenty of my time. But thanks for the thoughts.
Yeah, Col…people need to me more like Marines. That’s it.

Silky!
My last post was 9:42am. (Except for the one I sent to you this pm) I went to work and got home about an hour ago. So, yes I have job.
Conference calls ?? Ummmmmm…ok but when did you have the time for that or even to fix yourself a lunch ? (unless someone else fixes your lunch) You have 35 postings on this site starting at 10:25am I still suggest volunteering for you…….all that sitting is bad for circulation ! I probably won’t be able to respond to any more posts because I am off again to help with a Red Cross blood drive.

Silky,
I don’t mean to be unkind, but I think you must have absolutely no grasp of reality. I can see you sitting at a desk, your hair pulled back in a bun, little tiny black-rimmed glasses, no lipstick..
I sense a lack of understanding of what most people experience in their lives. Have you ever had to make a payroll? Have you ever had to justify capital purchases based on ROI? Have you ever had to sweat your car payment? Do you have to work or do you work for something to do?
The biggest problem we have now in government is elected officals who have less interest in serving their constituents than in getting re-elected every cycle. Even if they cared about their constituents they don’t bother to know enough about our daily lives to really help.
What they really know is how to pad their own pockets and keep themselves comfy and safe. To heck with the rest of us. And I think I sense the same attitude from you.
So stop being so snooty and self-important.

As a resident of the Empire State, I cannot express how thrilled I am that our national senate post will not be squandered on a totally unqualified daughter of privilege. This woman has expressed sincere shame over her OWN voting record, has never served in any civil capacity, and wields probably the emptiest resume of any office holder in our time.
Beyond her connections to Obama, she’s a woman without. I can’t believe she was our shoe-in.

Maybe she has that “Kennedy” thing. The one that makes it so hard for them to be faithful to their wives/husbands.
The problem that afflicted her father, John, Uncle Bobby, and even Uncle Ted “Chappaquiddick” Kennedy.

“I sense a lack of understanding of what most people experience in their lives. Have you ever had to make a payroll? Have you ever had to justify capital purchases based on ROI?”
Not with my own money, no. But I had a job during college when I did the payroll for an internet startup, so I do know how that goes. And you actually think “most people” have ever had to make payroll or had to justify capital purchases based on ROI? Talk about detachment from reality.
And I am not a woman. I am a well-hung man of youth, virility and thick sausage. I am Silky Johnson to your Buck Nasty. Most of you all are sexually-repressed Matt Drudge/Rush Limbaugh slurping dooshbags, who have never had an original thought in your lives.

Talk about pathetic…you went back and counted my posts? And I walk the perimeter of the property twice a day and work out at lunch three times a week. I’m 6′, 190. Pretty much a model of fitness. Well, aside from the 5 gallons of Guinness I drink a week. But that’s on doctors orders. How about you, beth?

Anyway, the subject of our lengthy thread here has been replaced by someone who has absolutely no national name recognition. I’m bored, so bye now.
Oh, and Silky, a mind is a terrible thing to waste… better slow down on that Guinness.

Carolyn is a lawyer, written books, and worked on NY educational system. If she has to come back, she needs to organize an election campaign, extensively debate on issues, give speeches, and prove to the bloggers such as here her worth. I am sure she wants to follow on her father’s path, and there is no better way of doing it than to work hard on this path.
