In the wake of what Vice President-elect Biden today acknowledged was a political "mistake" — not calling the incoming and outgoing chairs of the Senate Intelligence Committees before the media started reporting the President-elect’s nominee to head the CIA – - President-elect Obama today called both incoming chair Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and outgoing chair Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-WV, to chat about the pick, former Rep. Leon Panetta, D-Calif.

On Monday both Feinstein and Rockefeller expressed concern about the selection of Panetta since the former White House Chief of Staff isn’t an intelligence professional; Feinstein furthermore expressed shock that she had not been consulted.

A Transition source tells ABC News that the President-elect had "very good conversations" with both senators.

"They shared views about the future direction of intelligence and their desire to consult closely on these issues," the source says.
