Madam Secretary
ABC News’ Z. Byron Wolf reports: It’s official. Hillary Rodham Clinton is President Barack Obama’s Secretary of State.
The Senate voted 94-2 to confirm Clinton — a day later than Obama had hoped, but a lopsided vote nonetheless.
The only opposition came from Republican senators who expressed concern about Bill Clinton’s Foundation fundraising efforts from foreign sources, given Clinton’s role as the nation’s chief diplomat.
This creates the Senate vacancy that Gov. David Paterson, D-N.Y., has already been mulling over for weeks — with Caroline Kennedy and Andrew Cuomo among those thought to be leading contenders.

Congrats Hillary! It was two jacka$$es, one who is up for re-election in LA.(Vitter) and I forget the other ones name, but I think he is Republican too.

This is awesome. Now we need to get our AG confirm and looks like Republicans are delaying the confirmation again just like they did with SOS. Everyone we need to let those REPUBLICANS know that what they are doing is “CHILDISH” and they the republicans need to stop and GROW UP. Our new president – President OBAMA going to need ALL our help to get this country going …

“Vitter’s lone vote against Senator Clinton is nothing more than a cheap political stunt intended to deflect attention away from his prostitution scandal,” continues Whittington. “But Louisiana voters won’t forget this vote against Clinton, and they won’t forget Vitter’s hypocrisy and continued refusal to answer questions about his involvement with a Washington, D.C. escort service.”

looks like Vitter won’t get votes he needs to stay in office. what a shame. i guess he doesn’t listen to the majority either.go Hillary!!!

She has best position and with her fame it’s as if she is world leader. Obama will be busy with domestic issues and I’m so happy to see her in world leader role. can’t think of anyone better than her for this possition, other than Obama himself, but he can’t do it all alone. Great choice and congratulations Mrs. Clinton.

Hey Las Vegas I got a news flash for you the Democrats are the exact same way when it’s not to their benefit! This political grandstanding is as old as politics itself.

Congratulations to Hillary. I wish you would publish the two brain dead senators who had to be different. I would bet one, at least, came from Ca. where all the weird ideas come from. They will go down in history as either the smartest, or the dumbest, and I would wager on the latter if they are even around come re-election time, when they will get their reward for bi-partisan work when we need it the most. Instead of worrying about Bill raising money, we should create a new position for him, since the efforts of morons like the two dissenters have certainly left us short of too many dollars, Bill could do it, maybe not a bad idea. I am afraid you may see a compounding of such Republican “help” as the new admistration tries to straighten out the mess Obama has been left with, but just maybe the voters will have enough memory, and sense, to get rid of the excess baggage that has put too much politics that bogs down our progress, at least I hope so. Go Obama, choke them on heel dust.73toms

Hello “LasVegas” – That is a moronic post you made. Dems are far worse about blocking Republican appointees. Go back and look at the record on how Dems have voted against every Rep. appointee. Especially Obama’s record, he never worked with the conservitive (right) wing. Every bird has a left and a right wing to fly. The left wing is flapping so hard now, it appears this country may go in circles.

Vitter (R-Lousiana) and DeMint (R-South Carolina) were the two “nay” votes. Senator Ted Kennedy was not there for the vote, and of course, Sen. Clinton did not vote.

Those two repugs are such hypocrits. Didn’t see either of them beefing about Bush getting donations to his library while he was still in office. Isn’t that a bigger conflict of interest than someone’s spouse? Guess they think influence on a public official is OK so long as it’s done directly.

Clinton will be an excellent Secretary of State – the only downside is that Secretary of States never run for president. Sadly, I don’t think she’ll ever run for president again.

Heartening for Obama to see the vast bipartisan support for Hillary and the end to GOP obstructionism – at least for this day. Getting Geithner and Holder in the cabinet is the new priority, and don;’t be surprised if the White House is open to compromise in exchange for quick confirmations.

I wonder why anybody won’t support Senator Hillary Clinton to be our secretary of state. She is fully experience for the job. What is the problem? Former president clinton’s role in the world is the help people with Aids, and Hiv. He is not putting the fundraising money in his pocket. Those dumbest, need to grow up.This is too pity. Please, let work together and create peace here at home and in the world. Our demacracy is poor at home and in the world. We have smart people in this adminstration to make things work for us and other people in the world.

What a joke confirming Hil as Sec. of State! I loathe her and Bill as much as they loathed the military when they were in office. Now she is buddy, buddy with Obama, and in August Bill and her was spewing garbage out of her mouth about him. Demon-crats is what they all are! Republicans not much better. Communism is already here. My family has fought for this country from my Dad, Air Force in Korea, husband Vietnam, my son a Marine in Iraq, and son-in-law Army in Iraq. Now Obama wants to close Gitmo. The terrorist are not ones that will conform. They will let them out, and do not be surprised America when they come again!

Please talk with the women of Gaza to learn what they have been going through. The fact that the US supports Israel no matter what they do has turned most of the world against us. Most folks know that the weapons used by the Israelis are paid for by US tax payers. Surely this money can be better used here during our financial crisis.

Hillary Clinton is such a strong, capable and forceful leader — picking her as Secretary of State was the best idea. She’s tough, tenacious, determined, and powerful. Admittedly, Hillary is a very ruthless and cold person, but sometimes that’s what it takes to get the job done. I just wish she was President instead.

A true story that starts in the emergency room in Virginia. My defibrillator went off in my chest and gave me a shock (“like being kicked in the chest by a horse”). It went off in a 24 hour period over 20 times. I spent approx. 24 hours in the ICU in an induced coma. One of the times that the nurse asked me where I was I answered, “Israel”. . Several times with my Hebrew name, “Gediah Morca”. I said, ”tephillin, tephillin, tephillin” . My wife asked me if I wanted my tefillan which I used to use when I was a boy. I said, “no”. She asked me who this lady was (my mother, usually called Mitzi). I said, “Mirrell”. (Brina Mirrell happens to be her Hebrew name.) It was fortunate that my wife, son and mother were there or the nurse would have thought I was very confused. Since I have forgotten most of what happened to me from the time I was in the ER until I went from the ICU to intermediate care, my wife told me this interesting response. I broke out in tears. Here I am a reform Jew that only goes to service 3 times a year. I don’t practice and my Hebrew is rusty. I come out saying these words when in the hospital, I believe that I was touched by God.
The next day a Pakistani man and his wife became my new neighbors. The man was there for his heart as well. That night he went to the bathroom and woke me up. He came back to his bed. The time was around 1:30 am. I introduced myself and he did the same. I asked him where he came from, he said his family is from Pakistan, but he’s been in this country for over 30 years. He said that this was an amazing country, freedom of religion, speech, education, and opportunity. Of course, I agreed with him. We talked about government, freedoms of other countries, and news. Then religion came up. I ask him if he was Hindi and he said that he was a Muslim. Of course, I replied that I was a Jew. We began talking about our beliefs and how much our beliefs were connected. I said we were close enough to be brothers of the same God and believe in most of the same prophets. To my surprise, out of my mouth came, “If only the Jews would recognized Mohammad as a prophet. Maybe it would end the conflict between the two religions.” I believed that I was given a sign to speak about what happened to me and the vision of Mohammad. Since then my life has turned around. I’m not prejudiced like I was before. I’m going back to school to learn Hebrew again, do volunteer work, I pray 2-3 times a day, go to temple twice a month, and tell this story to anyone who will listen to me.
