Why don’t the republicans just tell the truth, they don’t want the president to succeed. Watching rep. Boehner and the rest of those bold face liars pretend as if they plan to work with the president is a joke. Also why get advice from the party that has brought the country to it’s knees with it’s inept, dishonest and incompetent leadership.

It’s not a matter of wishing anyone will fail. I know for my part, it’s a matter of knowing that the federal government is unwilling and unable to present a clean (no pork) bill that has a sole purpose of creating jobs and stimulating the economy. It’s not only the Republican party that is guilty here. Pelosi in her infinate wisdom was bragging about condoms and birth control being part of the stimulus. I just don’t know how many people exactly Trojan and Nuvo-Ring have working for them that could benefit from all that money. No political party is working in the interest of the taxpayer and it’s sad to see people who are either so Obama fanatical, or Anti-Bush, or even Republican partisan that they cannot get with other regular Americans and call ALL politicians out on this sorry bill.
Hope the Republicans will vote against the bill. Obama will fail during his Presidency because he didn’t keep promise to his voters what he stand for.
The voters are already mad about the Gitmo. Glad I didn’t vote for him. His rating is down about 56%. I am guessing former Pres. Bush’s rating is about 73%. Bush has done such a good job for the last eight years. Bush cut our taxes and has kept our country safe.

“WOW guess if you asked for tax cuts for big companies or the rich they would vote for it in a heart beat”
Does a rich man or corporation supply your paycheck? Just a simple question. Do you think a raise is in your future if he gets his knees cut out from under him by the government? Chances are you’ll find yourself out of a job before that happens. Go on, attack the hand that feeds you. Then complain about it.

Wow
We just had an administration that DOUBLED the national debt by OVER 5 T- YES T – RILLION DOLLARS
hmmmm
Where was all the outrage and opposition then.
Now I am hearing mind numming rhetoric about how our “kids and grandkids” will have to be “burdened” with this debt.
this is an unprecedented situation and therefore we have no reference to look to. Just maybe the Bush botched yet another crisis by not putting enough resources into it.
So cry me a river all you economists who all of a sudden crawled out of the woodwork to provide you “expertise”.
NEWS FLASH – YOU ARE ABOUT EIGHT YEARS LATE.

Japan responded to a 1990 recession by passing 10 “stimulus” bills over 8 years (building the largest national debt in the industrialized world). Their economy remained stagnant and their per capita income went from the second highest in the world to the tenth highest.

In $20 bills, a trillion dollar stack would be 3150 miles high. That’s about the distance between DC and Trujillo, Peru.
President Obama has said that his proposed stimulus legislation will create or save 3 million jobs. This means that this legislation will spend about $275,000 per job. The average household income in the U.S. is $42,000 a year.
Although this legislation has been billed and described as a transportation and infrastructure investment package, but only three percent ($30 billion) of this package is for road and highway spending.

Agreed. The arrogance of the GOP should be controlled. I fail to see how Obama is working counter to the Cicero example, but then given the machinations of some around here, his quotes could be distorted into the frenzied cry of “SOCIALISM!!”

“The arrogance of the GOP should be controlled. I fail to see how Obama is working counter to the Cicero example”
800 billion in new spending isn’t really following the Cicero example. Also, the GOP isn’t in control of the Congress, Democrats are and have been for over 2 years. Spending has to be cut. Every household will have to pay the government 6,700 this year just to pay for this bill.

By Contrast, the stimulus Bill Clinton put forward in 1993 was 16 Billion. This 800 Billion stimulus borders gross negligence.

Clinton didn’t have such an extreme economic mess on his hands that Obama does, for one. The clear negligence was with the Paulson/Bush bailout with half of the 800 billion largely unaccounted for. The stimulus plan is as costly as the bailout plan forced upon the tax payers last year, but instead of monies going indiscriminately to banks and financial institutions who self-destructed, it’s going into tax breaks and work. Let’s add another striking contrast of many- it’s transparency. The bill itself is one line and the amounts of stimulus going to specific areas has been given.

” extreme economic mess on his hands that Obama does, for one.”
You should go back and read the press from that time. The same doom and gloom economy dominated the press then as it did today. “Its the economy stupid” ring a bell?
“was with the Paulson/Bush bailout with half of the 800 billion largely unaccounted for.”
Again, Democratic congress. I thought they were the champions of oversight? If there is blame for that mess, it isn’t sitting on anyone one party’s shoulders. The only accolades anyone can get for that mess are the ones who were against it (besides Dems wanting to make it even bigger)… and those were GOP members. I guess you agreed with them? I certainly thought the bailout was a bad idea personally, no matter the politics.
800 Billion in new spending. I’m sorry that is just way too high and the vast majority of it, 75% won’t even be seen for 2-3 years. Why does this make sense to anyone? Can’t we pair it down to just what they want to spend this year, and look at it again in a year? If the economy bounces back, great we can stop the spending, if it doesn’t then pass another stim bill? This is essentially giving the government an 800 billion dollar check for the next 4 years. That seems reasonable to you?

Finger-pointing will not help cure the economic dilemmas we have found ourselves in; and besides, even if any one position is right, what does it do towards creating a solution to the problem? I have found the economic problems stated in “The Economic Consequences of the Peace” not dissimilar to the current state of affairs. Go figure….
Republicans and dems are both being ignorant right now and we are suffering from it. Obama said change and i guess that means spending bigger change. Republicans are complaining when they got us here in the first place. Barack obama claiming equalism but is quick to tell repubs why he was elected in after a discussion occurs. Repubs dont know and cant figure out how or where their stimulus went(corp partys). My job is threatning with lay-offs hurry already democrarepubs.
