Palin to attend Alfalfa Club Dinner (President Obama Will Be There Too)

Washington DC’s elite Alfalfa Club has only 200 or so members, mostly drawn from the worlds of business and politics (and specifically not from journalism).

Since 1913, the club has feted various leaders and jokingly nominated its own presidential candidates in an annual booze-and-giggles off-the-record black-tie dinner.

President George W. Bush attended the Alfalfa Club dinner every year of his presidency. And President Obama will be there Saturday night.

One other guest? Yesterday in Juneau, Alaska, Gov. Sarah Palin told reporters should would be there. Strictly as an advocate for Alaska, of course.

“The Alfalfa dinner, yes, in fact that’s because President Obama is scheduled to be there," Palin said. "And how often will I have an opportunity to have dinner with the president? I will take up that offer to do so."

(I hope none of the "terrorists" whom Palin during the campaign repeatedly accused the President of "palling around with" will be there. Could be a security issue.)

Incidentally, this week Palin launched her own Political Action Committee.

“I hope none of the “terrorists” whom Palin during the campaign repeatedly accused the President of “palling around with” will be there. You remember him, the guy who wanted Alaska to succeed from the rest of the USA.

Hey Jake — Did Obama tell any whoppers during the campaign? I think he told several. Maybe you could put in a snide remark about those, too. You know — just to be impartial

She caused death threats against Obama to increase after each of her “paling around with terrorists” themed rallies and now she wants to have dinner with him. Lowest of the low.

I am so sick of Sarah Palin!!!
This woman really wants to be somebody important!
During these next few years she had better get an understanding of the world and it pluses and minuses!
She lacks knowledge!

“Washington DC’s elite Alfalfa Club has only 200 or so members, mostly drawn from the worlds of business and politics (and specifically not from journalism).”
Well it is an elite club. Cant stay elite if you let in ink stained meal grubbers (no offense).
Besides Obama accused McCain of being a senile cripple and they were able to party it up.

Posted by: kathy | January 29, 2009, 9:36 am 9:36 am

The hatred shown to Governor Palin is in direct proportion to her goodness and potential. The vitriol spewed from the left shows the degree of fear they still have for her.
Yes, she is an American success story. No one paved the way for her. She became governor based on her ability to accomplish what the voters wanted her to at the local and regional levels. She remains a shining star in politics.
Those who hate should really try to get to the root of their unhappiness.

I wonder if Palin will be flying in with convicted felon, Senator Ted Stevens, who was a past elected President of this arcane institution. I do hope her PAC is picking up her travel expenses.

Palin said. “And how often will I have an opportunity to have dinner with the president? I will take up that offer to do so.”

I love Sarah Palin and think all of you haters (especially women) are jealous of her strenght and her smarts. The biggest racist terrorist there will be “our” President. I’m sure he will be handing out the same kool-aid that he has been feeding everyone else. Americans are so weak that they let People magazine pick the President this time!

Posted by: Tracy | January 29, 2009, 9:44 am 9:44 am

Sarah Palin may be one tough cookie, and that trait certainly has its place. But, she simply does not have the education or intellectual acumen to be anywhere near the Oval Office. If Republicans want to run her in 2012, it would appear that they are as firm in their way of thinking as George W. Bush – stubbornly, tragically, and dangerously wrong.

Geez… what if she gets drunk and flirts with Fred too much and Marlene takes her out in the parking lot to rub her nose in the asphalt?
Oh well ~ Sarah will throw them under the bus when she’s done with them, anyway.

Nice to see that Republicans can change, such as the ability to now accept unwed teenage sexual activity and pregnancy, whcih Sarah Palin’s daughter is the poster child for.
Let this woman fade into obscurity, so that she can spend more time with her family – its obvious that she needs to, unless she really wants more grandchildren out of wedlock.

Jake – That was a cheap shot…
Isn’t Gov. Palin’s statement that Obama was “palling around with terrorists” true? And that Obama has a propensity for hanging around people who are “proud to be Americans”?
I still believe Gov. Palin is more qualified than Obama to be President, mainly due to (a.) apparent lack of holding down a full-time job since graduation from high school, and (b.) a very thin resume that features very few accomplishments. But, as Obama gets more OJT, he’ll get on-par with Gov. Palin from an experience standpoint.
Let the shrieking and teeth-gnashing begin…Unleash the hounds!

Good for you Tracy. You must be one of those “real Americans” Sarah P referred to. I tend to agree with Vicki though. Stubborness and a refusal to listen to others is not a strength. I am sure that the factions in the Middle East were so confused by Obama’s willingness to listen they probably did not know what to do. By the way the baby is named Trig, not Piper. Lets leave the kids alone folks they did not ask for the attention.

This woman hasn’t accomplished nothing, being governor of open lands and moose/mooseheads is not a great accomplishment. She just happened to be the better looking moose. I don’t understand why Obama would want to attend a dinner that’s held in honor of the birthday of the Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Makes no sense to me. If he was really interested in taking on the entrenched Washington establishment, he would boycott this dinner.

The Republicans are getting together with other 2012 Hopefuls and guess who they Extend an invitation…
Sarah Palin is Not Invited.
No mention of [Louisiana Governor, PiYush "Bobby" Jindal]
If I were Jindal, I would not be at this [Republican Get Together] to Appease Fat Boy, Limbaugh
If you noticed, since the Failed Election, Limbaugh, Hannity and other Republicans have Nothing to say about [Sarah Palin]
—————
On a broader level, the Limbaugh tirades reflect the sort of soul-searching journey on which the GOP has embarked.
While Senate Republicans seem poised to work with Democrats on a stimulus package, the House side has resolutely toed a partisan line.
Earlier in the day, both Pence and Minority Leader John Boehner said they were spending no time whipping votes against to the House stimulus package — resistance came that easily.
But how sincerely the party wants to embrace the Limbaugh base is a trickier debate.
The GOP is holding a retreat this week to plot out its future and the issues it will pursue.
Note: Among the headlining guests will be former Gov. Mitt Romney, Gov. Tim Pawlenty, and Gov. Mitch Daniels, said Pence.
Asked if Limbaugh was on the invite list, he replied:
“Rush Limbaugh would be welcomed at the Republican retreat.”

“Could be a security issue”
Not really. Bill Ayers was refused entry to Canada last week, presumably on the grounds that he is/was on some terrorist watch list. This of course was palin’s reference — you don’t deny that Obama palled around with Ayers and his delightful wife, Bernadine Dohrn, do you Jake?
I assume the security at the Alfalfa Club will be at least as good as thatof ourneighbor to the North, so the charming couple will not be admitted.
So no problem.

“Palin also initiated bigger and better green initiatives for Alaska. Her agenda is more aggressive than California’s.”
It won quick praise from environmental groups for its call for shifting from fossil fuels to renewable sources, such as wind, hydro, tidal and geothermal, but Palin and energy advisor Steven Haagenson also revealed that the plan isn’t actually a plan for action. Instead, it is a list of resources on which local communities may use to develop their own solutions.
To call this plan more aggressive than CA is a bit hyperbolic.
Its a very good first step though.

The funny thing about that “palin’ around with terrorists” comment that few in the media even reported was that Bill Ayers, the one Palin was referring to (who described Obama as a family friend) recently tried to go to Canada to give a speech. He was denied entry into Canada … can you guess why?? He’s on their terrorist watch list, a reminder of his days planning bombings of government buildings. In this country we may call him a respected educator who did some foolish things in his youth. In Canada, they use a different word to describe him – oddly, it’s the same word Palin used to describe him.

Jenner – I have heard her speak in public, but my comments were not about her, they were about the fact that there was a huge outcry against Palin when she referred to Bill Ayers as a terrorist. Where was the outcry when Canada called him a terrorist (last month) and denied him entry into their country?
I know many people do foolish things in their youth and go onto become respected citizens. Maybe he personally didn’t hurt anyone, but his group did. Anyway, that’s not relevant to the conversation. People were outraged when Palin called him a terrorist, but not when Canada did. Why is that?

Have you watched Sarah’s recent State of the State address? Or seen her recent interviews? She is very professional, very educated about Alaska and her job, very sincere and kind – in spite of how half the country treats her with hatred. The rest of us non-haters LOVE SARAH!!

Palin actually gave a really great interview with Glenn Beck a few weeks ago. She has offered her support to Obama and has not said a negative word about him since the campaign ended.
The media criticizes her relentlessly, only reporting on her in a negative manner, and completely overlooks the good that she has done and is doing.
Obama would be wise to listen to Palin when it comes to energy independence.

Posted by: Doin' Fine | January 30, 2009, 12:37 pm 12:37 pm

Gov.Palin said several times ,that she will support Obama and pray he will succeed.
That is the greatness of Sarah Palin.
She is a integer and sincere person and is very professional (election is over and it is time to move on) ; contrary to many lib who are doing childish name-calling and gossip and are fully hateful toward Sarah Palin and her family.
Hey Sust… Did Palin’s PAC people send you a nice check for that ringing endorsement? God, I’ve never read so much cough syrup in my life. “Greatness” and Sarah Palin do NOT belong in the same sentence. Oh yeah, she’s about as professional as a “pig on a lipstick”….LOL

Posted by: Jenner | January 30, 2009, 12:39 pm 12:39 pm

Jenner – have you ever actually listened to Ayers speak? He admits his wrongdoing. He was arrested and charged, but police botched the investigation and he was released on a technicality – which in turn gave him the freedom to be open about his past activities without any fear of prosecution. Pick up one of his books or listen to a few of his interviews.

Posted by: Doin' Fine | January 30, 2009, 12:40 pm 12:40 pm

Jenner, Sarah’s PAC has little to do with her and more to do with supporting other candidates. It will also be used to fund her speaking engagements as offers continue to pour in for her to speak at events. I know you’d rather that she not accept any of those speaking engagements, but that’s not your decision to make – it’s between Palin and the organization requesting that she speak at their event.
Why would you find fault with that??

Sheesh!

WWW: The point of the Wendy’s question was, “When was the last time you as a politician did something REAL that everyday Americans do?” Most politicians have no idea about ordering fast food, etc. The Washington crowd lives in a bubble, trying to control our lives but knowing nothing about reality. It’s a good reminder for all politicians (Beck said that he plans to ask all politicians the same question in future interviews).

The election is over – time to let bygones be bygones and look forward. There was no animosity or bitterness in the interview – just her talking about her desire to see the country and the president succeed.
Take a hint from the new president – let go of the past and look to the future.

Sarah’s answer to the Wendy’s question showed (again) that she is a real person who lives in the real world like the majority of Americans. That is a huge reason why Sarah is so well liked – she is one of us! She understands! She speaks for us! She cares about us and our concerns! What other politician can you say that about? Again, your argument regarding Palin and McCain’s association with Ayers is demeaning and absolutely faulty. McCain and Palin had no problem ringing Ayers name up every time they connected with the ultra conservative (out of touch) redneck groups in the back woods of America for which, Palin noted that these were the “True Americans” that represented these here US of A. Jack…. oh god Jack… Yes, you are right, Palin works (the crowds) and she is one helluva an Integer (A BIG FAT ZERO, LOL)… She doesn’t portray elitism but she doesn’t deny porkism when it comes to funding her little “bridges to nowhere” programs. She doesn’t have much ‘common sense’ because if she did, she wouldn’t have paraded her pregnant 17 yr old across the political stage to garner the empathies (and their votes) of the staunchly conservative circles of the backwoods of America. I wouldn’t say she’s ‘bitter’ but I would say that she’s a power hungry country lump-log preparing for another run in 2012. LOL

According to Wikipedia, Sarah is on the membership list, but I don’t know how reliable Wiki is (my kids are not allowed to use it for school papers). I can’t find any other source listing Sarah as a member. If she is a member, it is because she is the governor of a state. It is not because of her financial status (she is not wealthy).

FYI… I’m not denying that what he did was a radical youth was intolerable, I was merely playing devils advocate in requisitioning the legality of the incident. Although I have to say that I applaud his efforts for battling the powers at be in subjecting the US into a ridiculously long and un-win-able war but I do NOT advocate violence as means to achieving these goals. Having said All that, Ayers is a respected educator and professor and should not be subjected to the ills of his youth. He has made amends to that fact. “Oil of coal, of course, is a fungible commodity and they don’t flag, ya know, the molecules where, where it’s going to, where it’s not, but and in the, in the sense of the Congress today they know our very, very hungry domestic markets that need that oil first. So I believe that what Congress is going to do also is not to allow the export bans to such a degree that it’s Americans who get stuck holding the bag without the energy source that is produced here, pumped here; it’s gotta flow into our domestic markets first.”

I was using the analogy of her basketball skills (not good, mind you) and her political career (short sighted, ill conceived and replete with any real practicality) as a means to digest her applicable political clout and from what I’ve seen and heard (unfortunately) she has about the same chance as becoming President of the US as Blagojevich is becoming governor of Alaska !!

During the campaign she was touting her ‘experience’ yet she dodged reputable programs such as meet the press and the Bill O’Reilly show who promised to go easy on her lol. She whined about the gotcha media. Obama on the other, went on tough shows such as the morning show with Bob Shieffer, Meet the press and even the dreaded fox news channel with Bill O’Reilly even though they ran stories about him that appeared to be (and I am being nice) racially divisive. She is a whiner! Worse yet, every time some news commentator would ask her question she would avoid it all together or come up with a incoherent answer! Is this someone who you would trust the country economy to? She is just Bush in drag !

We DO NOT need to be a lawyer to be a ‘knowledgable’ politican! Palin is just a common woman who is smart enough to kick her own party’s corruption in Alaska, and run a business before! She may not be portraited as ‘smart’ by the main stream media because she didn’t go to Ivy League school, but just a simple undergraduate degree in Journalism. I found that she knows alot more about our life than those high ranken Washington politican (lawyer type)! If you think that she is just a beauty queen, think twice! That’s exactly what the media wants you to think. Palin is too powerful, she represents common people’s struggle and life. Her family income yearly is less than 200K! She is not a millionaire like all other presidential candidates last year! Please don’t ridicule her as much as what the main stream media has done! IF you look down on her, you also look down on millions of women out there who got a degree and leading a simple life and raise a family! Let’s take a deep breath, and think about whether Saturday night life will do such thing for Obama or Biden as what Tina did to Palin?! Come on… ladies and gentlemen! If I want to poke fun for anyone, I am sure I can find something to ridicule about! Palin was a target because she is too REAL! The main stream media really afraid of her power and her influence! That’s all!
