President Obama Heads to the Pentagon Tomorrow

ABC News’ Victor Ratner and Sunlen Miller reports:

President Obama will visit the Pentagon tomorrow to meet with Defense Secretary Robert Gates and the Service Chiefs.

White House aides say this is the next in a series of meetings designed to get a comprehensive view of the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan – and the impact on American forces in the region.

While appearing before Senate Armed Service Committee this morning, Secretary Gates confirmed tomorrow’s visit.

This will mark Obama’s first visit to the Pentagon as President.

On his first day in office last week President Obama met with Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Secretary of Defense Gates, and head of US Central Command Gen. David Petraeus. Tomorrow’s meeting will include the service chiefs who run the four military services.

When does Obama start pressing Gates and the military to agree to a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq? Is it tomorrow?

It’s great to see the president in charge for a change, instead of the vice president with all his neocon agenda, instead of the the major oil companies, instead of an intelligence system overrun by spooks, etc.

Since most of what I’m submitting isn’t making it past moderation, I shall bid you adieu.

Matt: He has already given the joint chiefs a directive to begin drawing up a withdrawal plan. He did that on his first or second day.

I voted for Obama, but I appreciate and applaud his leaving Bob Gates in place. Gates is a true soldier and an asset to this administration.

There has been one for over a year. Maybe you guys should get your news elsewhere. General Petraeus has already started the phased withdrawl. The once deadly Anbar province is no longer under US control. Do you guys actually follow the war or just spat off political one liners as facts?

Consistent or disturbing… maybe both.
