hey eyeonyour, do you remember Ted FRICKIN’ Kennedy writing the education bill so many years ago? HELLO! Bush tried that whole “new tone” thing on everything but the war and security. That got us the bad housing legislation that put us in this mess.

Bush TRIED to deal with T Kennedy, Kerry, Pelosi, etc etc. when he assumed office in 2001 and 2002. However, he soon learned that the socialist party bites the hand that pets.

George Bush let Ted Kennedy write his education proposal, and these types of “reaching across the aisle” were what brought down the Bush administration. The Democrats are eating their young right now, and stabbing each other in the back. Obama knows that with his power hungry party primed to screw him at the first turn, he needs the republicans to help build some type of majority in congress. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will push him down to get in front of the camera.

The majority (either party) always excludes and attempts to minimize the power of the minority. Their excuse is that the minority uses technicalities to hold up legislation and abuses their powers. (Which they usually do) This of course just reinforces the very behavior on both sides in an attempt to mitigate the other’s power. In “bipartisan” hearings, each side will lie and pretend to be cooperative, but secretly try any trick to get the bill more in their direction. Then each side takes credit for any and all good things to come out of the bill and blames all the bad things on the other side. This reinforces mistrust and ensures the same process continues for each and every bill.
Conclusion – Politicians are worthless and more interested in playing to their zombie base then actually helping the country.

Let’s remember, the Democrats are the one’s who have been for all the bailouts and spending (along with Bush). I hope conservatives stand tall so the lines can be unblurred as to the philosophical difference of the parties.

As a former republican, i can attest to the fact that i am far from rich. I didn’t leave the republican party because they support “the rich”, as you put it. I don’t believe that at all. I left the republican party because they started acting like democrats and spent the crap out of my tax money, while simultaneously increased the size of our already bloated government.
Private companies shouldn’t get public money, nor should private citizens. I am prepared for things to get bad, and i’m not crying to the government with my hand out, waiting for the pellet to drop and feed me. YOU, and people like you, are part of the problem- When times get tough, you complain and look to the government for help. The government only does one thing well – NOTHING. I am old enough to remember the Democrats calling Reagan “evil” for his $200 Billion deficit – said it would ruin the economy, even if it could be contrued as a stimulus for a recession.

In response to all you ‘rich’ Republicans who are the only ones working… I don’t complain when I have to pay taxes based on a higher income, and I tell my daughter and her husband – we are blessed to have good paying jobs, so we pay higher taxes but we are blessed. And FDR and Obama are “like Hitler” IN THE SAME SENSE THAT Hitler’s politics were SOCIALISM for Germany as FDR and Obama are for state owned (“Socialist control”) of what has been up to now free enterprise in the U.S. FDR created the problems that we today are burdened with and unable to solve: how to survive his massive, federally-controlled social programs. It also took years for our nation to educate people out of being “state workers” or cogs in a Socialist-government-employee mind think (FDR’s creation for the masses he did not consider himself a part of) (neither does Obama) (nor did Hitler).
These are SOCIALISTS to a point of “total control” of what ought to be (in a democracy) private property. FDR overrode the concept, HItler certainly did and Obama certainly is.
Referring to Hitler in POLITICAL terms is not the same as discussing him in terms of his mental illness. His POLITICS were “absolute” Socialism, the government elevated to ruler or supreme status with citizens subservient to the state. These are beliefs (which Obama holds, by the way) that are contrary to democracy.
Hitler opposed communism but he and communists were just two ranges of the same politic, which Obama is also characterised by. It’s just a case of to what extremes a disturbed personality runs a disturbed politic (Socialism in all degrees) over democracy, to destroy free markets.

In case you don’t know how the government works, the President can only make proposals to the house – they write the bills and pass them, and the President signs them. Everything he did was passed first by the DEMOCRATIC majority house. Of course, he has veto power, which he didn’t use often enough, in my opinion. Bush turned into a Democrat – that’s why even most Republicans don’t care too much for him anymore, and the same reason we were none too happy with McCain, who was always reminding us that he votes against the Republicans!

Bush governed like a lib and Barry is going to govern like a commie.

The only reason that hey want Republicrat support, is so that they can absolve themselves of any responsibility when it does not work, and when billions of dollars have been wasted. They have a solid majority everywhere… Not to mention that awesome approval rating!

When will we learn we can’t spend our way out of this? The best thing to do is…nothing. Let the economy reach its bottom point and then it will rebound…Spending, stimulus, tax breaks, etc will not have an impact. The last stimulus proved the economy is going down no matter what we try. Why waste more resources and do more damage to the dollar by trying to delay the inevitable?

Oops — they only want $825M – my mistake, but then again, I’m already numb from all this crazy spending. Still – it’s UGLY and must STOP.

I voted for Obama and I’m pretty inspired right now. At least he realizes our ‘fundamentals’ aren’t strong. At least he put forward an agenda and is pushing congress to pass some legislation. I don’t believe in psychics. Who knows what is going to actually work? But at least he’s willing to get some intelligent people in a room and try to find solutions. That’s a big enough change for me.

Marxism has declared that it’s enemy is Capitalism. Marxism is Socialism. Obama’s a Marxist (so are most Democrats in today’s Congress). The U.S. is a Capitalist economy. Ergo, Democrats 9and Obama) are enemies of the U.S. if one connects the dots. Their methods of waging a war as an enemy is to seize power and control and work their campaigns from there. Some of the doom and gloom prophets who expected a Depression pre-2000, predicted the over the top behavior fom our congress and President. Now it’s happening in front of my eyes. Eventually, they predicted, the excessive spending, would ignite hyper-inflation when there was no one willing to buy our debt. We’re heading down that path as fast as we can go. Yeah, I had problems with Bush’s spending, but compared to what’s going on now, it was (pun intended), Bush-league! This is really scarey stuff happening! Just remember events like some years back when several third world countries had 30-50% inflation (and sometimes more!) and you’ll understand the potential horror. Our currency could completely collapse! All it would take is for the Chinese to stop buying our debt and our paper money won’t be worth the ink and paper used to create it! Neither of these parties nor Mr. Obama has one solution to any of these problems America faces. I created a plan where not one cent would be borrowed or spent, but instead through uncapping oil wells, drilling for oil, deep sea mining, all tax free as long as that money went into reinvestment inside America that this would create the good job base for all Americans.
This is what each of us should be focused on in pressing our government to allow it’s businesses and individual Citizens to prosper. Then everyone has enough money to care for themselves and the surplus in taxes helps those who had a bad break in life.
This Democratic plan is a disaster and worse yet, the Republicans have no plan to show Americans the way out.
This is about globalists gutting the American economy for their gain and all of our economic harm. Look at what they are dumping money into, but select unions, select kickback schemes based on Mexican slave labor and attempting to use that growing vote of Latinos to dump black voters on the curb.

Finally, I stood on the uber-capitalistic streets of Chinese cities, looked around and said, “the future of business is here not at home.” They are heading more towards our old economic model and we are heading towards their old model. Look to which model creates the most broad economic distribution. It’s not socialism. The poor in this country would be considered relatively rich men in Cuba and China.

Nobody ever seems to wonder, “How is it that government seems to have this magical ability to create money out of thin air. OUR MONEY IS DEBT (that’s why a “dollar” say FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE – a note is a debt insturment). It is debt that has gotten us into this situation. The solution is to lesson debt, not take on more of it. We need to do things that create more wealth, not create more money to continue the sham that has become our financial system. People whine and moan about the debt that we’re accumulating, but why? We voted these people in. If we’re so upset, why do we send back so many incumbents every time we have an election? We must think they’re doing a great job, right?

Jenny – I went to The Heritage Foundation’s web site and had them send me a few booklets one of which was a pocket version of the Constitution and I read my son short excerpts from it in between his video games. It’s not easy but it works at times.

Borrowing and spending is how we got in this mess in the first place. More borrowing and spending no matter the political song and dance will only make it worse.

I am not claiming i fully understand every implication of every policy…but 98% of the posts here show the lack of understanding of exactly what is going on. Everybody wants to rewrite history to fit their own biases. The original allocation of taxpayer money was to save the banking system and to unfreeze credit. While the results were mixed…it could have been worse, like runs on banks. Then it morphed into “save every failing company”. Yep Reagan increased the national debt from around 40 billion as it was under Carter to about 300 billion to fund the military machine. He is not a fiscal conservative when you look at the numbers.

It seems that most economist not associated with the banking industry feel that this stimulus package is way to much, going to the wrong places, for the wrong reasons, and will not stimulate employment. If it stimulates inflation how then will they fix it? I remember Carter Years and inflation was more debilitating than unemployment. There is even conflict on how long the recession will last. My take is 2-4 years if we use FDR’s recovery as a model.

Fannie/Freddie were cash cows for the Dems. You ain’t seen nothing yet. All this money is going into the Dems pockets. We had a good economy, and a low unemployment until 2006 and we got the Dem. congress. Gas double from 2006 t0 2008. Much of the banking, credit, housing was changed during the 90′s under Clinton’s watch. Now Waxman is going to have Climate change laws. There is no global warming other than that created by people who have gotten rich from this hoax. We are looking at being allowed only certain # of carbon credits to run our cars, heat our homes as will the business that we work for will be limited to the powers that be. These politicians will control you as we have never seen since the Boston Tea Party. We are going to have a regulator of the enviroment who believes that we should live by a global economy. We should all be poor and have no more and no less than the poorest nations. These are corrupt people. And all the new laws and regulations do not apply to them, only to all of the rest of us.

I take the words “Obama folks” to include the sympathetic, if not outright supportive, media.
Scrutiny in the press ruled for the last 8 years, now that has all but faded as “their” guy takes power.

It is more than a shame that we have gotten to where we are in relationship with each other. There is a very strong group that want us to be like Europe. I always felt that being like we were was a positive thing. I hear people say ‘we need to have a medical system like Canada’ I even here some say ‘like Cuba’.
The fact is if we don’t get smart and “circle the wagon” we will not be around very much longer. Regardless of the fact that some folks think there is nothing to fear – for sure we are on very thin ice. Was I happy with George W. Bush – not really but neither was I happy with Bill Clinton or George’s father. I guess the last presidents I was proud of was: Ronald Regean, John F. Kennedy and Harry S. Truman. Only one I can say I am ashamed of that is good old Jimmy Carter. I never voted for but am disappointed in Nixon.
Let us be careful with dorking around with how we operate as a nation. We can loose the whole thing with just one little mistake.

I don’t agree with Republicans very often. Boy, are they right on this so-called “stimulus” package. However, I suspect they’ll only keep objecting until it includes more of their expensive, ineffective ideas.
The core of the problem our nation faces today is too many individuals, too many companies, and the federal/state/local govs became badly addicted to too much debt. We cannot dig ourselves out of this by going on these drunken spending sprees with mountains of borrowed or newly printed money.
Selfish elected/appointed officials would rather condemn our children and future generations to pay a monstrous debt burden caused from today’s generations’ gluttonous behavior or kill us all with nasty hyperinflation down the road from massive money printing.
Guess what — IT WON’T WORK! Instead, they’re moving us quicker and quicker down the road to GREAT DEPRESSION #2. Majority of the public probably won’t even think to blame the politicians because they’re throwing around mountains of money ahead of time. Frittering it away now on plans that won’t even work will ensure the gov has empty pockets later when our country will really need lots of money to feed, clothe, and shelter tens of millions of Americans. Down the road as this mess continues to unravel, future lenders will say “NO MORE, YOU GLUTENOUS PIGS!” or our currency will be basically worthless from massive printing just like it is in Zimbabwe.
We need to take the pain now. It will only grow progressively worse the more we try to delay or avoid it.

Some people need to go back and read the history of this country. The stock market crash of ’29 was survivable until FDR started spending like crazy. With many of his packages in place – tax increases and increased government spending – unemployment went from 7% to 22% – all after FDR tried to “fix” it. Increased taxes and government spending made it much worse than it otherwise might have been. This is not opinion. Use whatever search engine loves you best and read for yourself. It’s going to be a very difficult time if the dems keep to their script.

Dave – In the general election, I went third party. You are right we need 1 more party. Some would argue if you had a bunch, someone could become president with say 10 % of the people supporting him. So you probably don’t want too many, but 1 maybe 2 would be beneficial.

Let me tell you why I’m a Republican. At 20 yo I was naive enough to think that “rich” people were to blame for most people being poor, much like you. High oil prices and the housing market finally going bust. The oil price problem solved itself and the housing market is leveling off, correcting itself. Banks have returned to their senses, we hope, and are making loans to people who can pay them back. We do not need a ton of new stimulus. The lower oil prices are stimulus enough. Give it time to work its way through the economy. We are going to see an orgy of political payoffs and Washington trying to buy votes with so called emergency stimulus packages. These people have no idea what they are doing. Obama’s Commerce nominee can’t even fill in a stupid tax form properly so how can he run the economy?

In my opinion, we are at a time in our history when we, the people, must provide oversight over Congress and the POTUS and make our voices heard. We need proven, practical ideas, and keen sense on the return on investments in these “stimulus” packages. We will soon be on package #3 with limited results from the first two, so we all should ask one simple question – Are we throwing good, freshly printed money after bad! I grew up in WA state in the ’70′s, Ernie. About the same circumstances as you it sounds. And no, I don’t believe the Right has backbone anymore. A good example would be our Republicans in Congress. I keep asking my elected misrepresentatives in con-gress by what Constitutional authority are they authorized to take taxpayer money to bailout private enterprise…To date the only acknowledgment I have received for my several queries is an unrelated letter thanking me for my support.

I think Bush read the presidents job description and saw number one on the list and stopped reading. Number one being: to PROTECT the country from all enemies, foriegn or domestic.
Bush had to agree to spend or the Dems would have cut off his protection funding and that he could not risk, so he captiulated to the lesser of two evils. Evil two-unbridled spending, or evil one- attack on us soil version 2.0. He picked number one.
I can live with because I get to keep living- he performed job numero uno.
Besides, the feds job is to protect me, the states job is to provide for me if I am unable to do so myself, not the other way.

I have been dirt poor (literally as a very small-time farmer with the requisite outhouse) and borderline rich (with a six figure income in a financial industry and all the suburban accoutrements). Right now I am headed back to my lowly roots. It was a great ride.
Who do I blame? No one in particular. This fluctuation is as old as the ebb and flow of feast and famine in ancient days.
I do have three concerns. First and foremost, as the deepest part of this downturn passes the strong tradition to pick a scapegoat will gain momentum. As the most recent ones through the immigration door, Latinos are in for a hard time.
Second, all too often societies recover by “tooling up” in anticipation of a war (real of invented). Wish we could skip this step.
And third, this downturn is going to last so long that it will expose the inherent flaws of having so many people in such close quarters, separated from the source of their food.
For the first time in nearly 75 years there is the possibility of people dying due to hunger in the United States in small but significant numbers. It has nothing to do with the amount of food available or that anyone would be ignored in their dire need.
People get lost in their priorities. Paying for heat seems more important than a proper meal. Poor nutrition leads to loss of proper immune system response. From there the path to death has a hundred names.
To finish what is a tangled analogy, our citizens will not be directly tortured by their elected officials. Instead the politicians will place such a debt burden on the financial system that the only result is economic collapse. After that comes the death of a hundred names (war poverty being just two).

I am 45 years old. I have borrowed money and been in debt. Although for a time this gave me the illusion of being prosperous, it did not bring prosperity in the long run. Later, I had to work twice as hard to pay off things that I had consumed and were long gone. Something everyone is missing is the indoctrination of our children. The liberals have so abandoned education for indoctrination that the future is terrible bleak. Kids don’t know what the Constitution is, much less what it says.I saw a ‘map’ of blue vs red states representing the votes of K-6th grade students (think it was on ABC.)
There were about 5-6 states in the center, around Kansas, that were red- the other 44 or so were all blue.
I realize children that age have no idea why they voted blue- just as 95% of the Obama-supporters have no idea-
but until we get rid of the current Congress, (they apparently aren’t familiar with the Constitution either) and take control of our schools, the country is doomed.

For the life of me, I cannot understand having so much hate for people because they are a different political party than you. I am a democrat, and contrary to what many seem to think about democrats, I have worked since I was 15, I pay taxes, I support my family, I’ve never received a handout and I never plan too. Am I happy with all this money being spent, no I am not. But instead of slinging insult after insult at each other, shouldn’t we be more mad at all our leaders and trying to work to fix the problem? I haven’t been posting much on political blogs, so I guess I have just never seen this much hate before, and I do mean from either side. I was never a big fan of Bush, but I respected him as my President, I didn’t bash him and in fact I do believe he cares about OUR country and did what he thought was best.

In many states without state income tax, they collect property taxes. It seems to me, those that support illegal immigrants also whine the most about the lack of school funding. What’s completely insane too me is the schools would have more money if we didn’t educate children of illegal immigrants who don’t pay ANYTHING into the system.

Oh, another issue on my mind today- part if the new bail-out includes billions for “green energy.” We all know global warming is a hoax, but now more and more people are doubting it, even many Brits! A respected Russian scientist has just published an article saying we are moving into a mini-ice age (just like our scientists said in the 70s.)
How in the name of God can these people seriously consider going further into debt for “green energy”, especially when I’m about to freeze my Bu** off?? Even in the “sunny south”??

What many of you are not mentioning is that no matter the party, Government is NOT the solution. Government is the PROBLEM! I don’t care if it’s “main street” or if it’s “wall street”, Government is incapable of righting the wrongs the our representatives have burdened us with. The only true solution will come from the american people themselves (both rich and poor). If we do not accept this responsibility, then we are doomed to follow all the failed socialist experiements before us. There are many examples of failure to learn from if we just open our eyes.
There needs to be a revolution in our mindset and the way we select our representatives. Citizens need to educate themselves so that the self serving criminals will not continue to be elected to office.

January 20, 2009 – Socialism Begins!

It continues to amaze me how the majority of the American public ignores historical facts.
Our current economic crisis is not unique, these types of booms and busts have happened with dismaying regularity throughout the histories of all successful nations, whenever the government spends beyond it’s means.
There are historical facts as to what works and what does not work as far as recovery plans.
The most often tried approach by countries ruled by a Caesar, King, or monarch is debasement of the money. Replace the silver/gold in the coins with alloys of lesser value (nickel, tin, copper). USA began doing that in the 1960s with our coins. Paper money not backed by gold has taken it to a whole new level. Roaring inflation is waiting for the USA just around the corner.
A close second is massive government spending programs. Never works because instead of the free market picking winners and losers, you have the government picking winners and losers. Most recent example is Japan during he 1990s. Unsurprisingly, the winners picked by the government tend to be well connected politically, but the misallocation of capital will always sabotage a real economic growth or recovery.
What does always and everywhere work, is to cut government spending, cut taxes, and get the government the hell out of the economic decisions as much as possible.
This isn’t ideology, it’s documented historical fact.
Until the majority of American voters study and learn from history, stop letting our representatives lead us around by our nose like pigs going to slaughter while they enrich themselves at our expense, we are going to have tough economic times.
There is no free lunch.
Unfortunately, the “publik edukation system” doesn’t teach history anymore, as they are too busy “educating” our children to respect all cultures equally, to have self esteem without accomplishment, that government is your nanny, and that your are entitled to rights never envisioned by our founders.
Send your kids to private school or home school them if you can, and pray we can eventually get a majority of voters to wake up and smell the coffee.
Buy some gold to protect some of your savings from the ravages of coming inflation.
Tell the looters that robbery is always immoral, regardless if it’s done by an individual bandit or done by the government.
Never forget that if private property rights do not extend to the wages you earn by the sweat of your brow, they don’t exist at all.

Even Ronald Reagan emplored in his farewell for the populace to keep educating ourselves in history on a daily basis.
Your blog should be posted as a mission statement in every school and in every home.
The only problem teaching and learning history is the ACLU and academia keeps “re-writing” history to be “politically correct” instead of factual. Those who choose to learn are in danger of “brain-washing” and those who don’t will never get past the education by the media outlets, whose “news” is editorialized and on the same level of usefulness as Springer and Oprah.

I think the world should just clean up polution before it starts putting all the blame and expense on its citizens. Quit using the Global Warming phrase to make us all feel guilty like we did something. The governments let all these things happen because they are lax, the laws are there, just enforce them. By the way Al, whats the temp in Tennessee right now? I bet your mansion is going to have a real high heating bill this month!
