Scenes From a Stimulus Battle, Part 2

One attendee at President Obama’s meeting with House Republicans says that the president is giving an overview of the economic scenario and stressing recent layoffs to argue the economy is continuing to deteriorate.

"I would love to not have to spend this money," the president said of the $825 billion stimulus package.

The stimulus package is one leg of the stool needed to revitalize the economy, the president added.

The other two legs: Credit must flow, so the U.S. needs a new regulatory regime and housing strategy.

More to come.

Why even bother meeting with the House Republicans. They already said that they were going to vote NO BEFORE they even met with Obama.

The Obamite plan is a receipe for disaster. Unbridled spending by the federal government and the non-stop bailouts must be stopped now. Contact your Representative, tell them to vote NO.

Amoroneena,
your democrats control the executive and legislature branches of gov’t…they can pass anything they want. yet, you blame the other party. classic case of reality lost. Hope it comes back to you in the next stimulus package, and after unemployment and inflation hits double digits.

Sic-um Republicans!!!!!
Amoreena,
Maybe the repubs see something in the bill that we are not being told. Why does ACORN need 4BILLION?
This bill is full of PORK, with lots of bridges to nowhere. Don’t worry it will be passed….both dems and repubs have to make it look like they are going to stand up for something honest and nobel, but then they cave in. You will get your check in due time, the new piece of jewlery or the downpayment on the new mercedes is still in sight that is what our government is for, so don’t fret. That is what this election was all about.

If he really would love not to “have” to spend the money, he would be requiring Congressman putting a spending proposal in that bill to defend it to him.
If he would love not to have to spend that money, “no” on spending should be his default position, and let everyone convince him why their spending request is important.

“housing strategy”
Uh the the heck….
We need a housing Czar now?
I cant think of any reason why the Federal government needs a housing strategy.

Working together two different parties with different ideas, is the wastage of time.
The party in power should take the drivers seat and steer up.

Uh you seemed to have ignored all Obama’s stuff about post-partisan and working together. Is that any way to treat your President?
Plus the Democrats all ready tried shutting everyone else out of the drafting process and so now things are delayed while all their nasty little pork projects get smoked out.

I think Obama should listen to their ideas. But I think that if they don’t listen to HIS ideas, he should use the power we gave him to do what he wants. He won.
The Republicans are obstructionists. They don’t have nay new ideas — just the old ones that (obviously) don’t work.

8 more years of Republicans trying to pretend they know what they’re doing. Pockets full of oil money pork, and Halliburton grease.

This is absurd! How can anyone be upset with the republicans for being cautious about spending $825B?!?! We can’t just go around throwing money around for heavens sake. This bill is full of ridiculous unnecessary spending… $600M on federal cars for one. Also, to you democrats your beloved & much worshiped president, Obama… explain his having the most expensive inauguration in history? what recession? lets just keep spending $$ & when a republican has to come in and clean up the mess 8 years later you can blame it on him/her for causing the mess like you always do. don’t throw the war in either b/c who are any of us to say it’s a war that doesn’t need to be fought? what actually facts do you have? are you an expert on war? i’d much rather spend money on a war than on fancy cars for the feds
