Stunning Images and Sisterly Advice

Good Morning America!  Those are some amazing pictures.  Breathtaking really.  If you are not watching on TV or the internet, start now.

Tough to be jaded looking at the crowds gathered in Washington.  My colleague Jake Tapper even seemed almost speechless trying to describe them on TV (and that is a rare occurrence.)

The crowds were so big, GMA weather anchor Sam Champion couldn’t even get to his camera!!!!

I am at my post in New York, in the anchor chair, wearing make-up just in case we lose communication with our ABC armies in DC. (The crowds were not nearly so impressive on the  NYC subways.)

Taking a quick look at the morning papers, the most noteworthy item is the letter in the Wall Street Journal written to Sasha and Malia Obama from Jenna and Barbara Bush. Read it here

It is, frankly, charming, including advice like "If you’re traveling with your parents over Halloween, don’t let it stop you from doing what you would normally do. Dress up in some imaginative, elaborate costume (if you are like us, a pack of Juicy Fruit and a Vampiress) and trick-or-treat down the plane aisle."
And, "When your dad throws out the first pitch for the Yankees, go to the game."

It continues to be what seems to me the most gracious transition in modern history.  The Bush team has really bent over backwards to make the Obama folks seem welcome and make the move easier.

Of course, that said, there is this curious line from the Bush girls:

"Four years goes by so fast, so absorb it all, enjoy it all!"

Are Jenna and Barbara already predicting that Obama will not be re-elected?

User Comments

The Bush girls wrote a mostly nice letter for the Obama sisters. To me the four years line is innocent enough. No one can assume a new president will be re-elected. There is wonderful advice throughout the letter for the girls about to move into the White House.
It is just the ending that seems out of place. The past two weeks we have been hearing excuses for Bush’s dismal performance and the harm his administration has done from so many people including Bush himself. And lots of stories of what a nice guy he is.
To me, who a man or woman really is, isn’t just how they appear to their family. They aren’t a good person because they are kind to family and friends and co-workers. Who a person really is, is how they act when there are no consequences personally but their own conscience.
If I am alone and find a wallet with lots of cash, turning it over to the police and contacting the owner shows my integrity much more than if I buy my children a treat with the money.
If a CEO is a swell guy to those he loves but decides to cut workers and work the remaining ones too hard to get extra profits so he can get a huge bonus, is he really a good guy?
Same goes for the president. If he appoints a clearly unqualified person to head an organization, say FEMA, taking the risk that people will suffer from the agency’s unpreparedness, is he a nice guy? I won’t even go into starting a war with weak intelligence while ignoring many nations opinions and intel, as well as the U.N. inspectors. And having most mid-east experts saying it would start a civil war. Knowing the huge cost of a war in human deaths and suffering, can anyone be a nice person to start a war with so much data against it?
Who a person really is has to be the sum total of the decisions they make that affect others, not just the nice self they show their family.
That’s who they really are.

Personally, I’m sick of the media and the hype – it’s just another President and I’m not interested in history. I’m interested in how and when he’s going to start taking action instead of just talking. We’ve been hearing him for the entire year of 2008. Time to shut up and get to work fixing this economy and the messed up immigration allowing foreigners to come here to work and take American jobs. Legal or illegal, they are not wanted.

Posted by: whocares | January 20, 2009, 8:40 am 8:40 am

GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARE WORRIED THAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DO NOT BUY THINGS (CONTRIBUTE TO MOVE THIS ECONOMY FORWARD). THEY WANT TO CUT TAXES OR ISSUE GOVERNMENT CHECKS. WELL, EITHER ONE WILL LAST A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. WHY NOT CUT PROPERTY TAXES. WHY NOT GET RID OF CAR TAXES. I AM SURE THAT WILL HELP THE ECONOMY. THE REASON THIS ECONOMY IS STUCK IS BECAUSE EVERYTHING HERE IS SO EXPENSIVE: PROPERTY TAXES, CAR TAXES, IF YOU OWN A CONDO, YOUR CONDO FEE GOES UP EVERY YEAR, COLLEGE TUITION IS SO EXPENSIVE, HEALTH INSURANCE IS SO EXPENSIVE, RENT IS SO EXPENSIVE, IF YOU HAVE A CHILD, HIRING A BABYSITTER IS SO EXPENSIVE. SO HOW, I ASK GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, YOU WANT US TO SPEND OUR DOLLARS (TO MOVE THIS ECONOMY) WHEN FIRST WE HAVE TO PAY THE EXPENSIVE BILLS (READ ABOVE). AFTER WE PAY OUR EXPENSIVE BILLS, WE HAVE NOTHING LEFT ($$$$$$).
SO GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS MUST FOCUS IN REDUCING THE ABOVE EXPENSES. CUTTING TAXES OR ISSUING GOVERNMENT CHECKS WILL NOT SOLVE THE ECONOMIC PROBLEM WE ARE IN.

Wonder how much this overblown inauguration is costing the taxpayers –security, cleanup, sanitary facilities, extra police, etc. etc. Whatever the price tag, it’s not worth it.
Amazing how the government always has taxpayer money to spend even when the average American is down to nickels and dimes.
Wha

Posted by: Marcia | January 20, 2009, 8:52 am 8:52 am

Events that seem to be missing from the inauguration this time around are demonstrations. Every inauguration I have ever witnessed, the media mentions a lot about the demonstrators and their causes. Are there any demonstrations this time around?

Posted by: Tom | January 20, 2009, 9:13 am 9:13 am

Yes, the price tag for the inauguration is worth it. The fact that there is so much enthusiasm for this new president means there will be many new people volunteering to help their communities. Can you put a price tag on that?
(Funny how the very same people who complain about this relative small amount of money didn’t bat an eye when the Bush administration gave out no-bid contracts. Or out-sourced military jobs at a much higher price and lower quality.)
I am especially proud of my country today and look at the huge numbers in Washington as a good sign for our future. It takes an involved public to keep government honest and working for the people. I think many people see the difference a little bit of their time and money can make in a better future for us all. Hurrah for the United States!

Posted by: Lydia | January 20, 2009, 9:20 am 9:20 am

LYDIA:
The reason there are “huge numbers in Washington” is because most of them don’t have jobs. Yeah, they are going to be just great for our economy –looking for their handouts and freebies.

Just from reading most of these posts I see that haters are raging all over the place! Yeah, by the way, exactly how quickly could you get us out of this mess that Bush spent the last 8 years getting us into? And some of you must have been under the biggest rocks that exist since you don’t know that Obama has been making moves already since having been CHOSEN as President of this nation. And guess what? The MAJORITY are thrilled about this historic event. So, just sit back, and enjoy the ride – HATERS!!!

Posted by: Kathy | January 20, 2009, 11:51 am 11:51 am

NBC has honor? joking, right?
I know Chris Matthews is on MSNBC – but calling Sarah Palin the most stupid woman in politics….show me some more chivalry. Didn’t seem like he was that hard on Caroline Kennedy for her interview errors.

Posted by: Deb | January 20, 2009, 11:58 am 11:58 am

Hopefully Obama will be good for this country, hopefully he will bring us together, hopefully he will be a great leader. But…there are so many unemployed Americans, so many Americans losing their homes to foreclosure, so many American children going to bed hungry, so many American elderly that can’t buy the medicines they need, or get the medical attention they need…I have to wonder at the price tag on the hoopla going on in DC….couldn’t that money have been better spent helping out so many Americans that are suffering and don’t have the basic needs in their lives, let alone NO glitz and glamour in their lives…I think less money spent on the inaguration and more spent trying to help the America people would have been a great message!

Posted by: debj | January 20, 2009, 12:11 pm 12:11 pm

I think people need to research before they start bashing. The funds are not coming from the taxpayers pockets. This was mentioned not only on t.v. but also, on the internet. And Washington is not packed because of people not having jobs, but because people care. It’s about the people, as a whole. Not just republican or democrat but both. Just tune in and find out before mouthing off. And I hope that the people who is waiting for him to make the change don’t expect it overnight. Because it’s not going to happen. It’s the president has just turned over his seat that has us where we are now. Since when have anyone seen ONE man mess up the WORLD!!!! And now you decide to critize the one that’s trying to make a change. I gets it’s true you can NEVER satisfy everyone.

Posted by: miss | January 20, 2009, 12:35 pm 12:35 pm

On this day of unknown promise and hope for a better future, I intend to look to MYSELF and determine what I can do to make my financial situation better, decrease my carbon footprint, be a better neighbor and employee and friend; I think Obama’s presidency is about being together, united in the process to make the world safe, free, and with a mutual regard for beliefs and perspectives. I call on everyone who is so critical, so jaded, and so judgmental to remember that, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Oh please!:

Of course, that said, there is this curious line from the Bush girls:
“Four years goes by so fast, so absorb it all, enjoy it all!”
Are Jenna and Barbara already predicting that Obama will not be re-elected?

Does everything that everybody does have to have snidely political undertones to it? This is outrageous. The Bush girls were simply trying to help the Obama girls with the transition. Did Chelsea Clinton extend such a heartfelt greeting to Jenna and Barbara? Probably not.
But, in either case, just lay off. The did a very sweet and caring thing. You don’t have to celebrate that if you are so politically one-sided that someone not of your affiliation can ever do anything good, but “if you can’t say something nice” about a gracious gesture then do us all a favor and say nothing.

Posted by: Dickson | January 20, 2009, 12:55 pm 12:55 pm

He was not my candidate, but he is now my Commander in Chief. I will support him as I expected others to support President Bush. Let’s stop bashing each other, President Obama and former President Bush. Let’s look to ourselves to see what we as Americans can do to make this a better place once again. Give him a chance….he just officially got the job!!! None of us are ever expected to make changes and better our companies on day one…neither should he be. Be resonable folks.

Honor? Please!
It’s a shame that Jenna and Barbara never got this courtesy as the Obama girls will and Chelsea Clinton did. The media… all of the media… reported on the Bush girls like they were paparazzi stalking a Hollywood starlet.
They leave the Obama girls alone? Well, never too late I guess.

Posted by: Dickson | January 20, 2009, 12:58 pm 12:58 pm

Yes many, many people are in DC (and I know at least 100) and ALL of them are employed. Many have taken the day off WITHOUT pay to participate.
Tax dollars are not involved in these celebratory events as far as I know and have researched. Now be quiet and do like my mom says: “If you can’t say anything nice-don’t say anything at all…”

I am behooved by the haters. Leave Barack alone. He just started his Presidency today and I have a lot of hope for him. bush was here for 8 years and did nothing. the Bush girls were freaking alcoholics. anyways all the haters can go to hell. I bet the haters are WHITE!!!!

Sorry Pamela…
I just relized that my last comments should have been directed to Ms. B. Ms. B is clearly the “hater” here.

Ms. B…those are some harsh words..I’m a middle class white woman have had said nothing hateful about President Obama…but there you go…throwing out the race card…not what he stands for at all..very sad.
Also, you used behooved in the wrong connotation here’s teh official definition and usage for the word. be·hoove Pronunciation: \bi-hüv, bē-\
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): be·hooved; be·hoov·ing
Etymology: Middle English behoven, from Old English behōfian, from behōf
Date: before 12th century
transitive verb: to be necessary, proper, or advantageous for
intransitive verb : to be necessary, fit, or proper

Posted by: deb | January 20, 2009, 1:06 pm 1:06 pm

I am just eager like everyone else, yes a person can talk the talk but it is the walk that matters. Race has nothing to do with it. The man is President and he is a celebrity. Change will come in time, give him a chance. We, no YOU ALL, gave Bush a chance and he did nothing, but yet you voted him back in another 4 years. How dumb can you be, you all brought this on yourselves.

Posted by: Ms. B | January 20, 2009, 1:09 pm 1:09 pm

You folks are sad and pitiful especially Lydia. We all feel the HARD pinch which I lost my home due to. I work very hard but attending a historical event is awesome and just a little faith in the cause for ALL americans rather than complaining about went wrong during the Bush yeards will not solve anything. The folks cleaning and working in Washington behind the parades and other activities thank God they have jobs to do the work! Presidents are human and the make mistakes like we do. How about rather than complaining you volunteer somewhere or correspond with the politicians such as legislatures in your state, your congressman, and senators and see what you can do to make the economy better. “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country!” God Bless You All!

Posted by: Pamela | January 20, 2009, 1:10 pm 1:10 pm

Obama is doing more than talking about solutions; he is working with congress to write the bill for his economic recovery plan and trying to get it passed as quickly as he can…you do have to remember that he just officially became President a couple hours ago!!!!!
REgardless if Obama was your candidate or not we ALL need to support him and work together. At the risk of sounding cliche’ – ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU, BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY!!!!

Posted by: Lisa | January 20, 2009, 1:11 pm 1:11 pm

OKAY DEB………..Can you cut and paste any other vocabulary words that I have used. Don’t criticize my grammar. Mind your business and support your dinosaur arms guy McCain. And you are just a confused middle class woman. McCain is all for the wealthy and you are only middle class.

I’m not confused at all..and my business is this Country as it should be yours…

Pamela – I guess we posted at the same time; great words though; we all need to seriously hear those words and decide what our individual role in moving forward is!
Mrs. B. To say that ‘all the Haters are White’ is extremely racial. If a white person were to say the same thing in reverse it would be a HUGE deal and they would be burned at the stake so why is it okay to be racist against Whites?

Posted by: Lisa | January 20, 2009, 1:19 pm 1:19 pm

The fact of the matter is, I am not racist at all. My boyfriend is white. I do not judge by color and of course there are white people that support Barack. I stated that I bet the haters are white! I could have been wrong. I don’t get upset by statements like that unless you know specifically that you are a white hater. Come on, grow up and look into what I said. By the way, we are all seeking change and like I said Barack can talk the talk but I look for walking, because at the end of the day it is all POLITICS!!!!!

Posted by: MissB | January 20, 2009, 1:25 pm 1:25 pm

It’s not so much as hating, thank you very much, you unruly individual. It’s the facts. Obama has already backstepped on nearly 45% of what he states he’s about! He not african american neither! He’s MUSLIM! Yes, he’s part white & black. His demeanor is MUSLIM! His birth certificate would not hold up in supreme court if someone was courageaous enough to take on the matter. Only 1460 more days for his term to end. Hopefully, this will not last for another 4 years after.

Posted by: EndDays | January 20, 2009, 1:28 pm 1:28 pm

Deb, I currently reside in Florida. Thank you. see, you were wrong and I did not get offended……….Calm down, just deal with the changes that are forthcoming……….And Pamela look into what I said, I am so not racist against whites, like Obama I am multi-racial and from the island of Jamaica.

John Berman – don’t read too much into this.
It’s a nice letter and a nice sentiment. I thought their little glimpse into life in the White House was interesting and I’m glad they wrote it. I thought it was sincere.

To Lydia at about 8:30 today, January 20: I think you’re being quite unrealistic in mentioning “our messed up immigration allowing foreigners to come here to work & take American jobs”. And, if this is the same Lydia, at 9:20, “looking for handouts & freebies”. Have you ever considered the possiblility that these jobs have been rejected by those too proud to take what is available? Gandhi, in India of nearly a century ago, was born into a very aristocratic family, but was not too proud to clean public–or private–bathrooms. This was a job for “outcastes”. Maybe you should be less proud.

Why should we support a man who believe is full of hot air, when you didn’t support the former president when he ran it? How hypocritical of you. How is it we should all ban together now, but not before? Again, how convenient for you. This is YOUR PRESIDENT, NOT MINE, NOT OURS. THERE ARE STILL TWO HALVES TO THIS. I’m sure everyone is anxious to see Obama ‘Walk the Walk’ but it is insane to think that we will see drastic changes overnight. I felt it was unfair to say he can talk the talk, but can he walk the walk as he only just took office this morning. Maybe I mis-understood your meaning.
I know for me personally; seeing how many people are / were out at the National Mall was inspirational and moving. It sends a message that our country stands behind our Commander in Cheif and believes in him and are ready and willing to work together as a nation to face our problems head on. I think is something that our country needed!

I do not understand why Enddays is making slick comments. Whether Barack is yellow, white, muslim, who gives a damn! I am looking foe change no matter what color he is. He is an inspiration for a lot of people because it took 43 white men to take office before a man with a tint of color can come in. Give the man a chance to make changes and or mistakes before we criticize. Are we missing Bush? It seems like that to me. People are losing their jobs, homes, schools are closing, teachers have overcrowded classrooms, car companies are cclosing, banks are broke….Wake up and realize that gas prices were up so high people had to carpool and or take buses. The fact of the matter is, people wanted a change, and whether you like it or not. I endorse Obama all the way. The guy can speak, he is so intelligent and his wife completes him. accept it and move on!

How could he make a comment in 2008, “Christians clinging to their GOD and Guns” That by far the worse thing to be said. The right the bear arms is OUR rights. His MUSLIM demeanor is only setting the nation up for destruction. BUSH kept us SAFE! No more terrorist attacks have been on the US soil since the unfortuante day we all know. 9/11.

This is all some BS. Go criticize paris Hilton or Britney spears for being confused celbs and leave Barck alone. Can we just all get along. If you did not endorse Obama, you just have to wake up, but that is your view. My view is I want the country to get back in order and I want changes. I made that staement about walking and talking because it is all politics in the end. I fell in love with Barack before he decided to run for President. I first saw him in the Ebony magazine when he was Senator of Chicago. his words move me and it is inspirational to know that for the first time in history a Caucasion is not Commander in Chief. Clinton is white and I endorsed him all the way.

Whatever I dealt with him for 8 years, so his time is up. That is right, why do we need to cling to guns if you are a christian. We do have the right to bear arms, but are you really fearing god with your guns. Are you telling me that you are for the war in Iraq? This is getting off topic. Yes. It’s the days we are all in now. That’s my right to state. So deal with it. I’m from Louisiana. I live in New Orleans. I know about it all. So don’t you even begin to state any information as if you personally know. I take all in with time and patience. I dealt with Katrina and all other devestations, I’m sure I can only deal with B. Hussein long well enough for this term. I’m in no means in fearing. I am FOR the IRAQ war! I’m about all it stands. Yes, it has taken such many precious lives, but it’s by choice to join as for many of my relatives. They fought for OUR country. To make allies and rid the enemies. Why hate America? Embrace it. For everyone is human, make notice to it. The twins did a sincere job in their letter. I commend them!

“I AGREE, HOWEVER WE CAN NOT ASSUME THAT EVERYONE ASKING FOR SUPPORT FOR OBAMA DID NOT SUPPORT BUSH.”
Did we say we’re assuming? YOU assumed.

“For Christ sakes. This is proof enough that Obama is as incompetant as Bush was:
He is putting a man to the head of treasury, who didn’t pay his own taxes and owed THOUSANDS to the governemnt, for years.

It IS funny how people close their eyes and plug their ears to that, isn’t it?

Posted by: Colby | January 20, 2009, 2:01 pm 2:01 pm

Jennica, indeed first impressions are everything. How educated are you by the way? Education has nothing to do with this. I am not trying to sound smarter. I have excelled academically in life and you? I bet you do not even have a college degree. I used the term incorrectly, so bite me. Now you are the B****. An the term is An uneducated person. Know your grammar. Why is the heat all on me because I endorsed Obama. Is this an only REPUBLICAN posting? IDK, this is not good for me I guess…..LMAO!

Posted by: MissB | January 20, 2009, 2:03 pm 2:03 pm

Am I pissing off a lot of people, because I have opinions. Wow!!!!This is great. Enddays, I am sorry to hear that you had to endure the disaster of Katrina, but life goes on and we as a country have moved on. The odor after 9/11 that I inhaled haunted me for days, but I have moved on. Violence is not the answer. I have friends in the military who are still confused because they do not know what they are fighting for. Come on, this is insane. Nica, what is so selfish about having grace and style. Who was caught drunk? Whatever, I am not here to judge Bush and his girls, I am just ready to see changes like everyone else.

Posted by: Ms. B | January 20, 2009, 2:10 pm 2:10 pm

I think the Bush girls wrote a beautiful and heartfelt letter to Obama’s daughters.
As far as my belief in how politics work. Laws and policies take several years to become effect or in some cases, ineffective – in both national, state and local government. Therefore, many policies and laws do not show if they are working or not until after the President’s first four years in office.
But no matter what, I will support the President of our nation, black, white, hispanic or any other nationality, as long as he or she has the nation’s best interests at heart (If the nation knows it or not).

Posted by: S.D. | January 20, 2009, 2:10 pm 2:10 pm

“Same goes for the president. If he appoints a clearly unqualified person to head an organization, say FEMA, taking the risk that people will suffer from the agency’s unpreparedness, is he a nice guy? ”
Obama has appointed a man to the treasury who failed to pay his own taxes for many years, and owed thousands to the government!
So he must not be a nice guy, either, using your words.

Posted by: M | January 20, 2009, 2:13 pm 2:13 pm

S.D Thank you besides myself, someone with common sense. LOL!!!!!

“Nica, what is so selfish about having grace and style. Who was caught drunk? Whatever, I am not here to judge Bush and his girls, I am just ready to see changes like everyone else.”
Little girls grow into teens who grow into women, The Obama children will not be perfect, but they will grow into fine young women, just as the Bush girls have.
Pull that foot out of your mouth, beucase you said you weren’t hear to judge, but you did, you bitchy ingrate, you judged the Bush girls.

Posted by: Nica | January 20, 2009, 2:15 pm 2:15 pm

No, your opinions aren’t at all a problem with me. Neither I’m sure with anyone else. We’re all here stating our facts that we’ve learned. Conservative views are going to be touchy with liberals. The country we live in is unique. Why else does everyone flee here? There needs to be a stop. America is kind enough. The war is necessary. So inhale that and get over it. With this said, I’m not going to further a bicker or on going conversation with this. As for you should do the same. Say what you have to say. And let it be! EndDays. Out. Thanks.

Posted by: EndDays | January 20, 2009, 2:19 pm 2:19 pm

Thanks for correcting my grammar. Yes that was a typo. I find it ironic that you are correcting my grammar when the last person who commented on your grammar was told by you “Don’t criticize my grammar. Mind your business and support your dinosaur arms guy McCain”. Actually, I find that quite laughable. I guess I can’t compare to your highly excelled intelligence…By the way, I am in no way a republican or a McCain supporter. I just don’t support stupidity such as yours

Posted by: Jennica | January 20, 2009, 2:19 pm 2:19 pm

Did we say we’re assuming? YOU assumed.
Actually I didn’t assume, your post stated:
“it’s a shame that THE PEOPLE who are asking for all to support Obama are THE SAME PEOPLE that did not extend the same courtesy to Bush.
That is a pretty big generalization – stating that ALL people who did x WILL do y – again, I’m not the one assuming.

Posted by: Lisa | January 20, 2009, 2:22 pm 2:22 pm

Miss B. WHat is WRONG with you? Both the Bush girls and the Obama girls are great. There is no comparison to be made. The Bush girls are grown, the Obamas have yet to be.
And who hasn’t botten drunk as a teen or while in college? They’ve long since proved themselves to be articulate, intelligent, graceful women, and you are a dispicable person for suggesting otherwise.

Posted by: Michelle | January 20, 2009, 2:23 pm 2:23 pm

Lisa, she didn’t say “all people” so get over it, brat.

Posted by: MissB | January 20, 2009, 2:30 pm 2:30 pm

Nica, maybe you should go back and re-read the posts. She did state all people. And beyond that she called me a hypocrite (she says it was directed at me but she copied my post and wrote it) for suggesting that we all support our new President because she assumed that I did not suport Bush.
I am not a brat and am sorry that you feel the need for name calling.
When I say something I atleast stand by it and don’t try to wriggle my way out when I am caught being wrong. We are all human and we all make mistakes and should be able to admit when we have. If she didn’t mean to generalize ALL people instead of coming after me all that needed to be said is just that, she didn’t mean for it to be a generalization.
I wish everyone the best as we embark upon this journey of recovery with President Obama.

Posted by: Lisa | January 20, 2009, 2:31 pm 2:31 pm

Lisa,
Yes Obama is half white, raised by a white woman but it was America that said if you are part black then you are all black. It’s quite obvious that Obama identifies himself was a black man because he married a black woman. I’m sure there were plenty of white woman to choose from at his Ivy League school.

Posted by: Louise | January 20, 2009, 2:33 pm 2:33 pm

The comment to Miss B about dying and being a bottom feeder was UNCALLED for. We live in America people and have the right to voice our opinions even if we don’t all agree.
Debate and argue the issues but do we really need to personally attack the person?

Posted by: Lisa | January 20, 2009, 2:34 pm 2:34 pm

“journey of recovery with President Obama.” Now who is assuming? Getting ahead of ourselves aren’t we? He hasn’t done anything yet.

Posted by: Nica | January 20, 2009, 2:35 pm 2:35 pm

Miss B what school did you attend? You stated you excelled in education correct? Id like to get the word out on that school you excelled at….You talk like TRASH…youre rude and vulgar…Take your “educatated” comments to a web site more deserving of your intelligence!

Posted by: MYGOODNESS | January 20, 2009, 2:35 pm 2:35 pm

Thank you Louise; but I don’t think I said anything about him being black or white, did I?
Anyway, to me his race doesn’t matter, what matters is what decisions he makes in office!

Posted by: Lisa | January 20, 2009, 2:35 pm 2:35 pm

I don’t know you personally and I never said I did. However, I’m getting a pretty strong impression that you a real bitch as far as your personality goes. Can’t say much for your looks and neither can you about me. At least I know that much. apparently you think that you already know how I look, about my love life AND that I dropped out of school at some point. I have to say you deserve a gold star for assumptions of the day.

Posted by: Jennica | January 20, 2009, 2:36 pm 2:36 pm

:but it was America that said if you are part black then you are all black.”
A hundred years ago, yes BUT NOT NOW!
And last I checked, marrying a (wo)man of a certain race doens’t convert you into a race.
Get some common sense, Please.

If I were the Obama’s I’m not sure if I would want advice from the “Tarty Party Girls” who would traipse all over the world swilling vodka out of the bottle.

Posted by: Cynda P. | January 20, 2009, 2:37 pm 2:37 pm

Nica – I’m sorry I should re-phrase that statement, what I meant was that hopefully we are headed down the road of recovery with President Obama and that I wish everyone the best of luck in getting there.

You must be a real winner -Rolls eyes- The Bush girls have long since grown up and started behaving and doing good.
The Obama girls are still young, just wait and see what they do. I’m sure they’ll be fine all in all, but who isn’t to say they won’t go prty and drink?

Yes Lisa you did here is what you wrote:
Obama is the first BIRACIAL President, get it straight. He was birthed and raised by a white woman. How conveniently you all ignore this fact.
Regards of how anyone feels, he is OUR new president for the next four years so get over it. He really cannot do any worse then Bush has already did.

Lis was quoting me. Pay attention.
AND NO HE IS NOT MY PRESIDENT. Go take a walk off a short pier. Like I said, say it all you want, it doens’t make it true. He is NOT my president beucase he isn’t looking out for me.

Obama is not my President, nor was Bush.
Don’t like it? Too bad, doesn’t change a thing.

The obamas girls got nothing to worry about. The bias media attacks only Republicans.

Posted by: Reality2009 | January 20, 2009, 3:05 pm 3:05 pm

Someone said all those who hate Barack Obama are “white”. That is a very dangerously false statement. Are we forgetting the fact that Obama could not possibly be elected into office purely on black votes?. Ohio anyone?.
I am a black immigrant who is happy to see this day. But I do not see him as a “black president” or necessarily a “democrat”. The message in his election is that a lot can be achieved when people work together for a common good.

Posted by: Olly | January 20, 2009, 4:01 pm 4:01 pm

I am behooved by the haters. Leave Barack alone. He just started his Presidency today and I have a lot of hope for him. bush was here for 8 years and did nothing. the Bush girls were freaking alcoholics. anyways all the haters can go to hell. I bet the haters are WHITE!!!!

You are seriously going to attack the Bush girls over yet another “apparent” slight against the Obama’s? Holy CROW! You journalists never cease to astound me. Four years. That is what the Presidential term is. No one can predict the future! At this moment in time, for the next four years, Obama will be president. No one knows if he will go on to a second term. Maybe Obama himself will decide not to run in the next election. SHEESH!

Posted by: quiltedjeans | January 20, 2009, 4:50 pm 4:50 pm

Hello to all. Today is a great day for this country. Pres. Obama represents change, hope and servant leadership for all americans regardless of race, gender, and socioeconomic background. I agree that this era will be marked as a generation of responsible people and servant leadership.
Be blessed!

Posted by: wendy | January 20, 2009, 5:12 pm 5:12 pm

I think that everyone here got off topic when discussing the Bush girls and their graceful letter to the Obama children.
With that said, I was/am and open supporter of Bush. Many of you don’t really have to like it, agree with it, or even care. He did something that noone wanted to do. Terrorists cam to our nation and put fear into our eyes. He banned us together and made it possible for us to live again without the fear of a war starting on our soil. Everything he did, I’m sure was a tough decision and can be easily critisized. But NONE of you know what you would have done in his position. We don’t have all of the facts, he does. We only know what the news wants us to know.
I hope that Obama can bring this country back together. But I also hope that people dont forget about the terrorists we are facing and why we are at war. Good luck Barrack, you will need all the help you can get.

I am reading these postings and I am so disappointed. Today is only Day two. Obama’s priority right now is to get the economy back on track. Please allow him to do his job. On the other hand, the statements that the Bush girls gave the Obama’s was sincere in my eyes and is expected. The comments i saw about Die to someone who voiced their opinion and another one aboout Obama is considered black because he married a black woman. Obama is not about race and color, he just found someone that shared his passion and is just as brilliant as he is.

Posted by: OBAMAFAN | January 21, 2009, 9:56 am 9:56 am

“Are Jenna and Barbara already predicting that Obama will not be re-elected?”
No. The Bush daughters were speaking to their experience as young girls during their grandfather’s four-year presidency, not their experience as college-aged women during their father’s eight-year presidency. Hence, “Four years goes by so fast, so absorb it all, enjoy it all!”
