The Note, 1/21/09: Day Two — President Obama (At Last) Seeks Running Start
By RICK KLEIN
Will we remember the dancing if there isn’t an encore?
Beyonce and 2 million of her friends are headed home. We start caring less about what Michelle Obama is wearing and more about what Kent Conrad is thinking. Chief Justice John Roberts has plenty of time to memorize the oath for the next time around.
President Obama’s inauguration was geared toward a reinvigoration of the movement he now leads. With its clear breaks from the Bush era, his speech offered sharp points upon which he and his supporters hope to pivot — with expectations that match the challenges of these times.
Through his election and the history-soaked excitement surrounding his inauguration, he purchased some additional political capital — or at least some additional time to spend it. (Though, given the market performance on Inauguration Day, maybe everyone has a bit less to spend.)
Spend he must — and quickly. The new era of responsibility starts now, and it starts inside the White House:
The key to the Obama strategy now: Putting points on the board early.
Acting immediately: “Starting tomorrow we’ll be making a series of announcements both on domestic and foreign policy that I think will be critical for us to act swiftly on, we’re not going to be able to delay,” the president told ABC’s Robin Roberts at Tuesday night’s Neighborhood Ball.

Well now that it’s all rainbows and sunshine here in the good ole USA, I am going to march on up to DC and get in line for a handout…umm I mean bailout!!! Hell, with $700B already appropriated there has to be some money left for the average Joe’s right??!!! All together now, let’s click our heels 3 times and let the “change” magic begin LOL!!!

Well, he needs to.
The market tanked yesterday. What does that tell you? The economy doesn’t trust him as far as your dead grandmother could throw him.
The beginning of the “change” we were promised and the market tanked. It will be a long 4 years.

Wow,
The only thing that could outdue the WORST sell off of the DOW in post election history after BO won, was the WORST inauguration day sell-ff of the DOW in history.
I wonder how many of the liberal whackjob media outlets will broadcast those facts?
Posted by: dave | January 21, 2009, 9:05 am 9:05 am
Nothing like a healthy dose of cynicism to start off a Wednesday morning, huh grumpyoldmanintown?
Obama’s ability to do what he wants to do will very likely impact you, so you might actually consider sucking up that cynical pride and try rooting for the man who’s going to be running the country, and having a significant impact on the world as a whole.
Just a thought…

I saw a myriad of people on TV yesterday explaining how Obama was now going to pay their bills. If this is how he got elected, this is serious trouble. The level of ignorance was astounding.
Posted by: brian | January 21, 2009, 9:08 am 9:08 am
Can’t wait to see how this plays out. He got where is he by blaming everyone else for one thing or another. Let’s see who he blames when he figures out he doesn’t have a clue how fix the economy.

“The market tanked yesterday. What does that tell you? The economy doesn’t trust him as far as your dead grandmother could throw him.”
Right, it doesn’t have anything to do with the year plus-long tumble that has been happening. And this “market” is also responsible for where we are now. Not Obama.

They’re no more financially set for life now than they were before he decided to run for President. Or even the Senate, for that matter.

You can tell the rightwingers have been saving up their self pitying, snarky complaints for the day after the inauguration. Babies! You haven’t even begun to suffer and all ready you act like Obama has outed your CIA wife to punish you for telling the truth, or fired qualified Democratic Attorney Generals for not prosecuting Republicans before elections…oh, you don’t know what it is to suffer, and probably won’t because from all signs, Obama treats the opposition as if this were a Democracy.

Amy, I think you might be right. We have not even begun to suffer!
Maybe will see the narcissist compare himself to Lincoln a little bit more. Can’t wait for Marshall Law and a suspension of states rights.

The economy is a lot worse than most people are aware of. The possible fallout greater than most expect. I care not who sits in the Whitehouse, Obama or should it have been McCain, the crisis is greater than one man — even the presidency of U.S. It is a shame that Americans angered over Obama’s win will sit on their backsides and complain, instead of putting their hand to the task in their own community to help in this economic downturn. The U.S. government was fiscally irresponsible, but so have most Americans. The hardships was created by the government and by the people — it will take both to fix it. If everyone gets their financial house in order or at least starts forming a plan to get there — hopefully this storm will not be as bad as it portends to be. Don’t use who is in the Whitehouse as an excuse not to mind your own house’s affairs. There is more than Obama being tested today.

Get your head out of liberal butt please. I would guess that BO and his angry millionaire wife will be worth ATLEAST 300 million in 10-15 years. You see, that is what liberals in power do. They run around screaming at everyone to share! share! share! but somehow their bank accounts seem to just grow! grow! grow!
Here are some fun facts you would probably never hear from the nutty liberal media about the “spread the wealth around” crew….
-27/50 of the wealthiest members of congress are liberals.
-300 private jets landed in Washington for Bush’s inauguration day, over 600 flew in for barry’s (that is one heck of a “carbon footprint” from the global warming freaks)
- Joe Biden, the man who famously said “time to do your patriotic duty, time to pay higher taxes” has earned a healthy $2.59 million dollars in the last 10 years and has given less then 3k to charity in that same time (.001.%)Now, that is what I call patriotic joe!
-the average dontation to the republican party has historically been $50 dollars, and the average donation to the democrats is……. we don’t really know because george soros doesn’t what us to know.

“So the central government is about to take a more active role in the life of America. I don’t want unicorns in my living room. Did fine without them so far.”
I honestly think you guys are sniffing glue or something. You’re talking some other language having nothing to do with reality. The “central government” is going to create jobs rebuilding infrastructure in a manner that is going to pay dividends down the road. It’s a great idea. Is that what you’re refering to?
Posted by: Silky | January 21, 2009, 9:39 am 9:39 am
dave, what is your point? Democrats aren’t allowed to make money? My point was that the Obamas are very bright lawyers…money was never going to be a concern for them as long as they worked. And you realize that if they’re rich, they’re subjected to the same taxes as everybody else, right? Regardless, Obama is talking about holding off on taxing the over $250K. And what do you care? Your fry cook job will never get you within $235K of having to worry about it anyway. Your taxes will DECREASE under his campaign plan. There you go again…voting against your own best interest.
Posted by: Silky | January 21, 2009, 9:43 am 9:43 am
Amy and Silky; Today would be a good day for both of you to look for a job. Maybe Obama will put shovels in your hope filled hands. I understand how empty the lives of Obamabots are now that the election is over, but we adults don’t appreciate your hall monitor demeanor. Your guy has been inaugurated but he has yet to prove his worth. There’s nothing for you to defend at this point. He’s done nothing but project. Get it?

“300 private jets landed in Washington for Bush’s inauguration day, over 600 flew in for barry’s”
er, successful people like Barack more than they did Bush?
“the average dontation to the republican party has historically been $50 dollars” We all know Republicans have won elections by manipulating the fears of working class Americans. No surprise there.
“27/50 of the wealthiest members of congress are liberals” I thought Joe the Plumber spoke for you when he whined the Democrats would punish him if he managed to be successful?

My point is that it is ironic that the “spread the wealth around”/global warming is going to kill us all crew has the biggest bank accounts and most private jets. It’ a little funny, isn’t it?
As for barry setting aside his socialist costume for a bit and not raising taxes, i’m somewhat skeptical of that. First he and joe the biden said 250k was wealthy, then it was 200k, then it was 150k?
So what is it barry? what amount of $$ constitutes the gov’t swooping in and redistributing it to all those idiot followers of yours we saw yesterday on tv?

“Your guy has been inaugurated but he has yet to prove his worth. There’s nothing for you to defend at this point. He’s done nothing but project. Get it?”
No argument here, although he has made some lauded picks for his economic adivisory team. But the flip side to that coin is that you all need to lay off the sky-is-falling nonsense. It already fell. Look around.

If you still can’t figure out how wrong you are about this, I can’t help you. Your type is exactly the worst kind of Republican. The kind who likes to argue, but is incapable of thinking in detail. THEY NEVER WAVERED AN INCH ON HIS TAX PLAN DURING THE CAMPAIGN. You just can’t tell the difference between somebody getting a tax cut and somebody’s taxes not increasing.

Hmmmmmmm… President Barack Obama enjoys an 82% “Positive Rating.” He’s less than 22 hours into his presidency and Based on the first 9 respondents to “This Note” (topic); 78% (7) are Negative and Cynical, and 22% (2) defend a Reasonable and Logical position (on this topic.) “I guess it would be ‘reasonable’ to deduce; “Thus far, the participation on this ‘topic, at this time’ is Completely ‘Out Of Step’ with the Majority of the American People.”

If I am incapable of thinking in detail then how do I know that almost 50% of Americans don’t pay federal taxes, yet barry ran on his famous “95% of Americans will get a tax break” stump.
How do you give them a tax break if they don’t pay any taxes in the first place? It’s called welfare.
It appears your are the one who can’t tell the difference between a tax break and a welfare check.

Bobj72; Reasonable and logical are terms that have widely differing meanings according to one’s point of view. If necessary, I will use my 2nd amendment right to affect removing the unicorns from my living room. What’s right is to fight to the end for what one believes in, even if what one believes in differs from the way others tell them to think.

It is funny to hear the libs say we should now come together to support our president. How should we do that exactly? If I am an Asian, Mr. Obama will call me “yellow” and say that I need to “mellow” – If I am hispanic, well, then Mr. Obama thinks I should just hang around. Of course, if I am white then I am obviously incapable of thought; luckily, Mr. Obama will ALLOW me to now think “right”. Wow, no matter what race am it seems that I am inferior to Mr. Obama and his racist preacher.
Not a very auspicious start on that post-partisanship promise. Racial harmony? Not on Mr. Obama’s watch.

What are saying? That barry never said “95% OF AMERICANS WILL GET A TAX BREAK”? Sure, he might have said that working family crap, but that is beside the point. Barry promised tax breaks to those who pay no taxes. In other words, he promised them a government welfare check. That was his appeal. He was truly the messiah of the poor people looking for a sugar daddy.
What do you mean my wealthy rants? I was merely pointing out the inconsistencies in barry’s evaluations of wealthy. 250k, then it was 200k, 150k. When will it end? Will wealthy eventually be considered 100k or how about 75k? Surely people can afford to help all of those BO supporters on 75k a year, right?

Par – You’re right to call me a cynic, but my cyncism doesn’t just include Obama. Our 2 party gov’t system is broken and only corporate America is heard by our own reps. Only big money talks in DC no matter who is in the White House. Get over yourself and your bad case of Obamamania. He’s just another gov’t crook.

Dave, you are just not getting with the program. If you are white, Mr. Obama has just goven you a great gift. The Messiah is now going to let you “think right” for the first tiem in your life. Aren’t you proud of this magnaimous attitude on the part of our new president? Doesn’t the idea that you – yes, little old you – are now permitted to “think right”?
I know I am grateful as a person of some asian decent that I will be allowed to “mellow”. I am not sure exactly what that means but if Mr. Obama is graciously ofering me this opportunity to get my “mellow” on then I should treasure this great gift.

Did I hear someone mention a narcissist who compared themselves to Lincoln? That was ME, ME, ME!
GIBSON: You said recently, in your old church, “Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.” Are we fighting a holy war?
PALIN: You know, I don’t know if that was my exact quote.
GIBSON: Exact words.
PALIN: But the reference there is a repeat of Abraham Lincoln’s words when he said — first, he suggested never presume to know what God’s will is, and I would never presume to know God’s will or to speak God’s words.
But what Abraham Lincoln had said, and that’s a repeat in my comments, was let us not pray that God is on our side in a war or any other time, but let us pray that we are on God’s side.
That’s what that comment was all about, Charlie.

Gosh the people moaning and whining. Give a man a chance. Its like some on this blog look forward to or wish that he fails. Your economy must be better than mine. I wouldnt care if it was the man in the moon sitting in the white house, I would give him/her my best wishes and hopes and do my part to help as that is putting country first. Putting party before country isnt going to help and sitting around crying and whining isnt going to help. You must as well suck it up and face the reality he is your President for the next four years and instead of whining and bashing and hoping for failure, you might just look in the mirror at yourself and ask yourself what you can do to help this country.

Lol! No, it’s exactly the point. Go back and read your initial comment on the subject. Did you ever even bother to read his tax proposal? Of course you didn’t.
“What do you mean my wealthy rants? I was merely pointing out the inconsistencies in barry’s evaluations of wealthy. 250k, then it was 200k, 150k.”
Once more, dave…no such inconsistencies ever existed. You confusion is a result of your inability to distiguish between a tax cut and no change to your taxes.

Well, isn’t this special? After overstaying her visa, ignoring a federal deportation order for years, escaping apprehension in Boston, and taking refuge in Cleveland, the destitute illegal alien aunt of Barack Obama somehow found her way to Washington, D.C., for her nephew’s inauguration.
Federal immigration officials couldn’t find her, but she was spotted by several media outlets and partygoers around the Beltway.

Oh my God! You right-wingers really have your heads up your lower orifices. Couldn’t you see how happy former president Bush “W” was yesterday? He couldn’t wait to get out of there. It would be a very BIG surprise if Laura doesn’t even back him any longer. I am a guessing the new house is just for HER. He can stay at the ranch by himself.
He was quoted to have said to a onlooker, that this was a great day for the country. I guess HE is NOT so dumb after all. I have a new found respect for him. He knows what he has caused by his ignorance and his EGO.
I am profoundly (along with the majority of this country and the world) happy to have a intelligent man that has his mind set for something bigger than himself (for a change) in office.
My husband, pretty much sounds like most of you right-wingers. He thinks he is the media darling also. He said last evening after work, watching the inaugeration that I recorded, that this was a great day and he was glad that Mr. Bush was finally gone. (He voted for him both times.)
Everything that I told my family and friends 8 years ago has come true in spades. Maybe I’ll be right about this one too. Only it will help all of us this time.
Be care Dave and Monroe, you are both sounding a little bitter. Your blood pressures are going to be needing checked. You don’t want to be quoted later with being wrong. I only hope and pray along with the world, that you are. FOR ALL OF US! We now need a miracle! Thank you for that Mr. Bush.

Barry ran his campaign under the slogan of 95% of Americans will recieve a tax break. This is regardless of the fact that 50% of Americans pay no federal taxes. In other words, barry will be handing out welfare checks. He is the new robin hood.
This resulted in droves of people believing that their rent, car payments, and mortgages will all be picked up by the US Governement.

“So the central government is about to take a more active role in the life of America.”
The above quote is Dan Balz’s interpretation of how the Obama administration will defer from Bush’s stated ideology. I personally feel the government under Bush has been too active in changing the country in ways I don’t agree with, but that’s me.
Obama himself said “The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works.” We have a federal government. Conservatives pretend they don’t want a central government and consequently they try to privatize services, just on principle, which end up costing the tax payers billions more in fraud (see the money lost in Iraq.)Obama is talking about skipping the old small/big argument about the government, and aim for a more competent government.

To the person obsessed with Sara Palin
Palin was everything that liberal, feminazis hate.
1. She is hot
2. She is Christian
3. She is happily married
4. She is a self-made governor
5. She is pro-life
6. She is conservative
Women are ALWAYS incredibly jealous of each other and someone like Sara definatley received the brunt of that.
As long as you believe in aborting babies for no reason at 9 months, don’t shave your pits, and curse at the crucifix when you see it, the “open minded” feminazi liberals will love you.

No, he didn’t, and you continuing to say he did does not change that. Please, look at his tax plan from the campaign which remained unchanged through the course of the campaign.

I’m thinking it had more to do with her consistently making a fool of herself, and particularly, the man-walked-with-dinosaurs 4,000 years ago line. That one was pure gold. The party of Bush is alive an well!

Silky, how can you possibly not be offended by someone calling people brown, yellow, and white when it was meant to minimize their value to exhalt the value of a person that is black? No one should accept this type of race baiting. No one should accept his antagonism of others just to provide accolades to someone of another race.
It is despicable. Obama seems to have surrounded himself with people like this (rv. wright, f flageler, and JJ). If Obama were a Republican he would catch unending heck for this arrogance and divisiveness.

I wonder if Michele Obama got mad when Larry Sinclair sent a certified letter to her describing Mr. Obama’s private parts. I would have loved to have seen her reaction.
Who is Larry Sinclair? He was doing coke and offering or@l to our new president a short 8 years ago. I don’t care if it is Larry Craig or Barak Obama – these people do not change. He will bring great embarrassment to our nation when he is caught in the next late night rendezvous.

Palin saying man walking with dinosaurs was ALMOST as classic as barry O saying he’s been “to all 57 states”. Now that was funny, and given barry’s level of patriotsim and knowledge of accurate American history (not rev wright’s version), I am sure he believed there are 57 states!
Or how about biden saying……
“when roosevelt was president in 1929, he got on television and spoke directly to the people”
“jobs is a three letter word”
“bosniac”
“hillary is much more qualified then i am and quite frankly, she would have been a better choice”
Democrats get passes from the media and republicans get crucified.

What is the defense of Barack Obama? Do his supporters point to his acomplishments? No, there really aren’t any. Do they point to his new, synergistic approaches to solving old problems? No, his solution is just to spend money (old school for sure).
It seems the only defense they can muster is to attack Sarah Palin. Governor Palin continues to be the elephant to the Obama nat.

Silky, finding sympathetic judges is how libs have operated for years. Do I believe that sooner or later a sympathetic judge will be found when it comes to Obama’s citizenship? I absolutely do. When Barry has to produce proof he will be in trouble.
However, I am more opptomistic that sooner or later we will find someone at Harvard or Occidental that wants to make money. Maybe someone in the state government of Hawaii will need some extra cash to get through the coming economic depression. We have several paths to take and are persistent if nothing else.

So biden’s ridiculously stupid remarks that entertained us all throughout the campaign were not worthy of your defense? Well, I guess I win that one then.
Palin has said she is a creationist, as am I. Evolution is a theory that was regarded as fact by liberals the moment darwin wrote his book “origin of species”, because they think it destroys the idea of God. Accepting evolution is like walking into the Sisteen Chapel and saying “wow, this just happened over time by itself, no artist, it just happened.”

The comparison I was making between biden and palin was to show how little she was respected for her accomplishments. The liberal media HATED her from the day she was chosen. Her mistakes were magnified from MSNBC all the way to sat nite live, while barry’s and bidens were either ignored or covered up.
Can you remember on SNL sketch about barry being the messiah or rev wright? They didn’t exist. Now those would have been hilarious, but the media protects liberals and crucifies conservatives. It’s really pretty scary and I think it is only going to get worse.
Every positive thing over the next four years will be from the wisdom of barry O, and any negatives will be the result of past bush policies.

Pat Napolitano Marietta. Ga,
There is no more negativity here than has been directed toward Ronald Reagan. Like Reagan, Mr. Obama will be expected to produce results. If he does not he will be kicked out of office sometime during the next four years.
By the way, opposition is not equivalent to negativity. If you see a train wreck about to happen and you have the ability to either prevent it or to minimize the impact you have an obligation to do so. Mr. Obama is a train wreck waiting to happen.

Silky, I am in complete agreement with Amy. You are pretty amazing.
There is no getting through to these morons. They keep comparing Biden and Obama with their every word documented and judged ad nauseum and we have had a past (I love that word) president that every time he opened his mouth……..
Not to mention Sarah Palin opening her mouth and every time something embarrassing came out.
Their disrespect to our new president is appalling. We have had a president the last four years that may still have to go to trial along with his vice (I love that word too) for crimes that are equal just short of Hitler.
The MSM have had a little fun with him, but no where on the MSM did I see Bush in all of his glory except on the Web, where he was obviously drunk, and Laura was very disgusted with him at the Olympics. Many pictures of him where his secret service men were helping him up out of his seat, his leering eyes and hands on our athletes and many more.
Go ahead and think the best of the world, don’t let these guys take any more of your time. They are not worth it and nothing you and I say will impact them. They are bitter and it doesn’t matter, they and NOT Obama are NOW the MINORITY!

Here’s how well Palin helped herself during her campaign exposure.
“Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin might have a tougher time than once thought if she were to take on Sen. Lisa Murkowski in a Republican primary next year.
A Dittman Research poll shows Murkowski leading this year’s GOP vice presidential nominee in the hypothetical matchup, 57-33, according to KTUU-TV in Anchorage.
That contrasts with a Research 2000 poll from mid-December that showed Palin on top 55-31.”
Looks as though her popularity in her own state of Alaska is meeting rejection by the looks of this poll taken in Alaska, complete reversal in not much more than a month.

Just a few for me
Drillin in ANWR would have the effect of putting a postage stamp on a football field. It would not have nearly the damaging effect on the environment that all 600 private planes that flew into Washington DC this weekend did (Bush had 300 for his inauguration). Leave it up to those limosuine liberals, they really know how to keep their carbon foot prints down!
Iran is a backwards, thirdworld, primitive, terrorist playground.
The “open minded” liberals, living up to their traitor reputations, proved just how insane iran is when they invited ahkmandijead to speak at Columbia. Do you remember what he said there? “Iran doesn’t have gay people”. Yeah, because they get killed when they are exposed!
He also denied the holocaust repeatedly and called for the “real holocaust” to take place.
Palin saying that women exposing too much hair/skin could result in their death was wrong how?
When she attacked barry’s socialist healthcare plan, what was inaccurate about what she said? barry’s plan is to have the gov’t run our healthcare. Wow, that sounds great! Didn’t that work well for Cuba? People would rather die on a raft trying to come here then live in that liberal haven.
Let’ see here, she might have pressed to have her brother-in-law, the man who tazered her nephew, illegally shot a moose, threatened to kill her father, and was caught drunk while patroling, fired. Shocking. If that is “unethical” then ethics should be reevaluated.
Actully, pretty much all of you Palin quotes are fine. Why did you post them?

Never saw Jon Stewart when a choir of angels heralded every mention of Barack’s name for several episodes? Biden has been skewered for his hair plugs and his big mouth. Bill and Hill are always the butt of jokes. The difference is, voters decided Biden really was more qualified, despite being over talkative.
Voters decided Hillary was very bright, despite her poor choice in husbands. They also decided that Palin was not ready to be Vice President, despite her great legs and over all spunk.

Wrong! The 2000 acres are not all in one spot.
From Politifact:
But the report concludes that the oil is not concentrated in a single area but is instead spread throughout the refuge, meaning the 2,000-acre cap could only be viable if those acres weren’t contiguous. And, between those acres would have to be a network of roads and pipelines connecting them.

Amy,
Actually, the SNL skits I did see that made fun of hillary always made her out to seem like a very competent woman with a few annoying characteristics.
Palin, however, was made to be a complete and total fool at every opporunity. This is despite the fact the Palin rose to power on her own merits, while hillary rose to power holding on to bill’s jock strap. I can certainly see why all of the woman’s groups back hillary.lol.
Hillary was suuuuccchhh an independent and proud woman. I mean bill only stuck a cigar in monica, only slept with paula jones a few times, and was never convicted of the rape charges placed by juanita brodderick.
Palin’s family was also viscously attacked. I guess you never expect anything less from “open minded” liberals.

From Politifact:
Palin overstated the case. The McCain campaign did not provide any account — nor could we find any — of an Iranian woman being killed for improper hejab. If there are any such instances they are extremely isolated.
So it was misleading for Palin to suggest beatings are punishment for immodesty in Iran. More to the point, the restrictions related to modesty are routinely flouted without consequence. And her claim that killing was a possible consequence of immodesty pushed her statement into the realm of outright falsehood.
Posted by: just a few for dave | January 21, 2009, 12:42 pm 12:42 pm
Palin’s career consists of a beauty pageant and a mayoral race that was uncontested. Hillary Clinton’s career consists of a successful law practice and many years in public policy and Senatorship in a state with many times the population of Palin’s. Hands down, experience has it.
Palin was foolish and unintelligent in her own presentation. The media didn’t just make up the material they used to mock her…she gave it to them.

Obama’s plan keeps the free-market health care system intact, particularly employer-based insurance. It is not a goverment-run program and is very different from the health care systems run by the government in some European countries.

Calling someone who calls barry by his white name before be decided to be called barrack in order play the victim by embracing his black father who abandoned him a racist is ridiculous. Remember “dreams from my father”. why would he title that after the deadbeat abandoned him?
I just don’t like anti-American, socialiast, RACIST people like barry O. No matter what color they are. Followers of rev racist for 20 years aren’t too high on my list either.

Finding number one in the legislative Troopergate report: “Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.”
Palin’s response:
“Well, I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing, any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that.”
dave, that is a bald-faced whopper of a lie and if you won’t admit it, you’re just as outright dishonest as Sarah Palin.

Yes, there’s just something about a chenille dress that doesn’t appeal to me. But Michelle is so manly – walks like a man – that she needs all the girly frilly stuff to disguise her bad posture.
The fashion industry is all ga-ga over Michelle’s wardrobe yesterday. And J-Crew’s site almost crashed from searches and inquiries about the crewcut coats worn by the Obama children.
Look- I’m no fashion guru, but I know an ugly dress when I see one. And the dress Michelle wore this morning to the prayer breakfast wasn’t just ugly, but inappropriate – more like a sundress from Wal-mart. But of course the fashion experts will probably call it “stunning.”
Hillary and Jill Biden in suits was appropriate – and they looked like adults.

So when was it that you first realized that you hated America? Was it when you did that first anti-Vietnam rally in the 60′s, which resulted in America pulling out of Vietnam prematurely, leaving millions of South Vietnamese to be slaughtered by the North?
Or when you first heard “Bush lied, kids died”, I bet that just turned a light bulb on in your head didn’t it?
Liberals hate America which is why they LOVE barry.

Actually, voting for someone who brought their children to hear the following is VERY UNPATRIOTIC…
“GD America”
“America created the AIDS virus to kill black people”
“America is the worst terrorist nation in the world”
“America deserved 9/11″
With that being said, fortunately, I think that most people who voted for barry really don’t have a clue what they voted for (many of my family for example).
For years the media has told them Bush is dumb, the war was wrong, Cuba has better healthcare, the earth is melting, Europe hates us and America is not that great of a country. So we need some CHANGE! They don’t really know what it means, but hey, it’s CHANGE!
Take the Jews for example. The %age that voted for barry is baffling. Why in God’s name would those people ever vote overwhelmingly for someone who said in the primaries “iran is a tiny country and not a serious threat”, and “i would sit down with ahkmendiejead without preconditions”. Iran has repeatedly denied the holocaust, called enthusiasitically for a real one to take place, and said that israel will be wiped off of the map once they get the capability to do so.
Barry, history already has a neville chamberlain, we don’t need a second.
In addition to barry’s own ridiculous statements, the church he attended for 20 years was apparently very pro-palestine. Rev racist can be heard on video accusing the USA of siding with israel and harming “black palestinians” multiple times.
Barry’s church also gave louie farrahkan a lifetime acheivment award (louie is one of the most recognizable, muslim, anti-semetic faces today),and farrahkan has called barry the messiah many, many times. get on you tube and watch it.
Finally, barry has repeatedly said he “will decrease our military spending and halt our nuclear weapons research”.
That’s just great barry, it’s nice to know that America’s enemies will continue to stock pile weapons, but America can offer them hugs.
Finally, in the ultimate display of ignorance by the American public, Catholics voted by majority for barry. This is a group of people who claim that they are pro-life, and yet they voted for someone who twice voted down the “Infant Born Alive Act”.
Barry was the ONLY SENATOR TO DO SO.
The bill stated stated that care would be given to any baby born alived, resulting from a botched abortion. This bill was proposed after nurses came forward telling of babies being left to die after botched abortions.
Barry said it would “make the mother revisit her original decision” and also “inconvenience the doctor”.
I am not making this stuff up people.
This election year was NOT a victory for America’s people, it was a victory by the media. The media has proven just how powerful it can be.

He is the President of the United States. That’s pretty frickin patriotic. Patriotic is not having a support the troops magnet on your car and supporting unjustified wars.

“The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government and I won’t be buried under their damn flag,” he said. “I’ll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home.”
“And then you get mad. And you say, the hell with them. And you renounce allegiance, and you pledge your efforts, your effects, your honor, your life to Alaska.”
No doubt he now dwells in that great North Slope in the sky.

Now that the party’s over, we’ll finally get an idea of what kind of a president Obama will be. I’m hopeful that he will be an OK president, but at this point, it’s too soon to tell.
Dave, you are right that the American people don’t know what they elected – we elected a candidate who has never made an executive decision in his life, so he’s a blank slate – could be good or could be a disaster.
It’s often said that the president doesn’t really run the country, the people he surrounds himself with actually do the running of the country, and so far, Obama’s cabinet and circle of advisers is looking a lot like that of Bill Clinton which brings up those foreign policy disasters like Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Haiti, Somalia, etc. Not to mention the whole Elian Gonzales/Cuba debacle.

Silky smooth
Liberals have been siding with America’s enemies for 60 years. I would say that constitutes a slight hatred for America. The amount of evidence to support my claim is overwhelming. I could win this case in court.
I graduated from the University of Mizzou, a school that is well respected for its journalism program. The amount of anti-American rhetoric being pumped out by the faculty everyday was shocking. I am not just talking about their hatred of Bush. Their hatred went much further then that. In many of my professor’s eyes, America is responsible for most of the world’s problems.
Now, doesn’t that correlate with Michelle O saying “I have never been proud of my country in my adult life” and barry saying in audacity of hope “in college, I sought out the marxist professors”?

“This election year was NOT a victory for America’s people, it was a victory by the media. The media has proven just how powerful it can be.”
Hardly. If you think this than you know little to nothing about this general election. Obama’s street strategy was astonishingly successful. McCain didn’t campaign in the right places. Palin was a torpedo in his campaign. McCain got nasty when it was painfully obvious that it wasn’t going to work this time around. Obama kept his head and took the high road at every moment he was baited. Obama was flawless, McCain blew it. He made very high profile bad decisions in a campaign that was all about proving you can make good decisions.

Silky : If you can’t see the role the media played in this election, you really have no place being critical of anybody else’s knowledge of the election.
Obama had absolutely nothing going for him before the media picked him as “their guy.” They glossed over all the negative stuff on him and gave him ridiculous amounts of “fluff” coverage.. essentially free political ads. It was so bad that in looking back on it now, the networks are critical of THEMSELVES for doing it.
Posted by: howwouldiknow | January 21, 2009, 2:05 pm 2:05 pm
Silky – your version of the election season shows you have a convenient memory. There was a time when McCain was actually ahead in the polls – soon after Obama won the final primary because some democrats simply could not get behind a candidate with no experience.
At the same time, conservatives could not get behind McCain because he’s more of a democrat then a republican (and certainly not a conservative).
The “economic crisis” is what put Obama ahead. Pushing the false belief that the economic situation was caused by the president and could be fixed by the right president is what put Obama ahead in the polls. The media happily played along with this belief, especially MSNBC who saw its ratings plummet just before the “crisis.” The belief that action from the president was needed helped to push conservatives even further from McCain and he never recovered from that. He couldn’t run his campaign as a conservative or even as a republican – he couldn’t oppose Bush, because then he would lose support of Bush supporters. At that point, he was in a no-win situation.
The reality is, recessions come and go. Jobs come and go. The good companies can survive just fine without government interference. Presidential meddling does nothing more then make a recession worse and last longer.
And what is Obama saying now? Now that he’s elected and in office, he’s saying that the economy will not be fixed for at least a year – nothing he can do can fix it.

Instead of calling me rush limbaugh (great American by the way), why don’t you dissect my claims if they are so bogus? Could it be that they are true?
Could barry O be the next neville chamberlain?
Is there any evidence to show that liberals actually like this country?
Here is some evidence to the contrary (it could go on for miles)
They run around throwing eggs at bush and giving hugs to hugo chavez (half of hollywood).
They sing and dance with the north vietnamese soldiers, while spitting on our troops returning from the war (jane fonda and the entire hippy idiots of the 60′s).
They claim “bush don’t like black people” without acknowledgeing the fact that one man stands alone as authorizing more $$ to africa then anyone else in history- george bush.
They accuse our troops of raping and murdering civilians (john murtha), terrorizing civilians (john kerry).
They make documentaries in the middle of a war accusing our troops of being bloodthirsty murderers and they depict the enemy as peace-loving reformers (michael moore).
They are told that they are employing communist spies direct from moscow in their administrations and instead of investigating the claims (which turned out to true thanks to the Venona project) they call the messenger crazy, homosexual, liar (joe mcarthy)
They bomb gov’t buildings and advocate children killing their parents, only to be offered teaching positions at the University of Chicago and Northwestern.(bernadine dhorn and bill ayers)

“What has he done yet except win an election?” Appointed George Mitchell, for one thing, former senator from Maine, who brokered the Northern Ireland Peace Talks, as MidEast Envoy. Sounds like he is intent on bringing peace to Israel/Palestine.
Pushed through a stimulas package BEFORE he was even inaugurated. I know that’s a scary move, but so is doing nothing and watching our economy collapse (see Hoover.)

Lie. Speculation. How would you know? And a sign of an inability to discuss anything rationally. Nice work!

The liberal idiots I just mentioned are past not some obsure nutjob abortion clinic bombers.
Rather, they are….
past vice presidents apologizing to our enemies for America’s “horrific” record of torture and climate change. thanks al gore
-past presidents (Carter kickin it with hamas, holla!),
-current sitting senators (kerry and murtha),
-bigname hollywood celebs,
-faculty/administrations of presitgous schools,
-very popular liberal film maker, mike moore, mark cuban
*******NOW HERE IS THE DIFFERENCE*******
Abortion bombers in conservative circles are labled nuts and we call the authorities on them.
American liberal terrorists are offered positions to teach at Northwestern and the University of Chicago. They are given large advances for books and are often asked to lecture at other liberal schools.

The fact that they gave the man the platform at all was repulsive! He is supplying our enemy who is murdering our troops. I don’t give a crap that they acknowledge it was a mistake!
The man calls America the great satan and wants to blow Israel off the map, that might have been my first clues as justification for not giving him a speaking platform.
They gave him a better initial reception then Bush would have gotten at Columbia. Of course the warm welcome ended when he started babbling on like usual and he made them look stupid for inviting him at all.

Is there any evidence to show that liberals actually like this country?
From your list of so called Liberal crimes, it sounds like “liking your country” means keeping one’s mouth shut when crimes are committed and people suffer from injustice. Good to know!

“it sounds like “liking your country” means keeping one’s mouth shut when crimes are committed and people suffer from injustice.”
Which is always the case when America is concerned, right?
Of course America makes mistakes, and we should learn from them. However, when our soldiers got some insane terrorists naked, who had American’s blood on their hands, and messed with them, the liberals reacted in typical hysterical anti-American fashion.
Instead of simply punishing the individuals and moving on, the whacky liberal media blasted the pictures over and over again. They repeatedly questioned the integrity of our military, and asked ridiculous questions like “HOW ON EARTH COULD SUCH HORRENDOUS AND DISGUSTING ACTS HAVE GONE ON”. “WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR MILITARY?”
Never once did I hear any prominent liberal acknowledge that we hazed them fraternity style and they cut our heads off.

Dave, you forgot to mention that just last week in Iran they were protesting in the streets burning photos and effigies of Obama because he refused to even comment on the Israel / Hammas war. Oh, but you, like the vast majority of Americans didn’t even hear about that because the bias liberal American media squashed it. I read about it in the London Times.

Did you two even read what I said? I said America makes mistakes and that we should learn from them. The soldiers who participated in the fraternity hazing should be punished.
I just would have liked a little acknowledgment from the left that getting someone naked and cutting someone’s head off are NOT the same thing.
However, liberals used the scandal as propaganda to further protest the war/Bush and to show how dishonorable of a country America was. This is exactly what my liberal college professors did in the 60′s to protest Vietnam.
It is one thing to report on something, but when you have an agenda to push and you are using that event to help, that is wrong.
Believe me, AbuGraib was music to the liberal media’s ears.
And Amy, I have never gotten a DWI. That is not very “open minded” of you to assume that I have just because my opinions differ from yours.

With Vietnam, I was just comparing liberal hysteria that results in the protesting of any war America is involved in. Liberals refuse to acknowledge that war is sometimes necessary.
Once the liberals succeeded in getting America to withdraw prematurely in the 60′s (as they vehemently tried with Iraq) MILLIONS of south vietnamese were slaughtered by the north. They were sent to reeducation camps, students were forced to watch their teachers hang.
Yep, that was another fantastic victory for the liberals!
Thank God the liberals lost their fight over Iraq.

Dave,
As near as I can tell from your philosophy, a good American doesn’t protest dropping napalm on children, the killing of civilians at My Lai, the detention of prisoners indefinitely without trial, and so on. Good Americans give up on the rule of law, cause that’s for sissies. How does that make America any different from Russian, China or Iran? In my opinion, Liberals love America more than right wingers do because Liberals care about the principles for which it stands.

What most of the people do on this blog is slam anyone who doesn’t agree with them. That’s a strong indication of low self esteem. a political blog is a sorry place to seek either self esteem or confirmation. Please ignore the banter between Bobj and me. A while back I made the remark that old school racial protest leaders had perpetuated discrimination and prejudice by carrying a chip on their shoulders. I still believe it’s way past time to put the racial hatred behind us from both perspectives.

Well, that really shows how ignorant those Demi-Dems are. They said he was a tyrant, and was not going to yield power. In other words he & Cheney were going to pull off a coup, and remain in power for ever (typical liberal emotionalistic melo-drama).
When the real-world evidence finally hits them they just blabber at the mouth, make excuses and continue on with their lies, and associated politics………………
Also, the mouthy black guy who said when “Whites do what is right” must have forgot his dementia medicine….. White just substantially helped to elect an ‘Un-Qualified’ black president. Was that not politically correct enough for him??

If liberals would ever stop and realize that America’s presence in many of these countries where totalitarian dictators are in charge, might prevent someone like saddam from gassing 700,000 of his own people again, or, we could have stopped the north vietnamese from murdering MILLIONS of the south after we left because of suspected “indefinate prisoner holdings”.
If liberals claim to be about human rights then why do they continually turn their backs on people who are suffering? And pleeeeaassee don’t bring up darfur. Believe me, if America went into Darfur as george clooney keeps wanting us to, America would do it wrong. Civilians would get hurt, prisoners would be mishandled. Believe me, liberals would eventually change their tune on that conflict, too.

Dave; I agree we have the best bad government in the world. There’s much to be desired in our electoral process, there’s much to be desired in our foreign policy, there’s a widespread need for charity, and there are lots of other things wrong. We just see the right way to address the issues through different eyes. Though history does repeat itself, we are currently at a turning point driven by the fact that our nation is no longer the leading industrial nation it once was nor is there much hope for recovering that status under current conditions. My point is the things we did to prosper in the past are no longer available as options. I have faith we the people will find ways to recover from this economic recession. I don’t think the government has much say in when or how private business, the driving force will accomplish recovery. I don’t like the idea of a big controlling bureaucractic government because big government steps all over our rights. I don’t like the idea of building foreign nations we must compete with especially while we have so many domestic needs that require monetary investment. I don’t like the idea of the government being our go to when there are times of economic distress. Time will work things out. Most importantly I don’t like the idea of anyone taking more out of the system than they have put in.

Yawn. This discussion has been nothing but ad hominem attacks being responded to by MORE ad hominem attacks. That, I’m sad to say, is exactly what’s WRONG with our country today, and with its political discourse (or lack thereof).
A couple of points:
If you really believe that there is no such thing as institutional media bias in this country, you must not be paying attention. The foreign press, throughout the last four months, has been running expose’ after expose’ to show the negative vs. positive coverage of Barack Obama vs. John McCain, and the results, quite frankly, were simply stunning. By one study, Obama scored an 82% favorable rating in stores written about him, whereas McCain only scored a 36% favorable rating for the same period. At the same time, Obama only scored 12% in the negative column, while McCain scored 58% negative. With slanted news coverage like this (which, as the Los Angeles Times reported in a “morning after” critique of their own editorial division which was UNPRECEDENTED), how could McCain or any other politician for that matter compete with the Obama juggernaut?
I voted for Ron Paul in the primaries, and am disillusioned with BOTH parties at this time. I believe that neither one respects or honors the Constitution; the neo-con crazies that run the GOP now believe in Big Brother government, while the “limousine liberals” that run the Democratic Party believe in Big Mother “nanny” government. Both these expansionist government visions were anathema to the Founding Fathers, who warned of both extremes and called both “tyranny.”
We’ve replaced Big Government Republicans with BiggER Government Democrats. In the end, folks, there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch – and ALL of us (rich AND poor) will end up footing the bill.

he’s ahead on points, styled to be the most public president ever, a team maker and a consensus maker who is charismatic and in the right place at the right time with the country in the toilet.
if anybody ever had the chance to succeed big, and a foothold, he’s got it. as an american i can’t find it in me to wish him ill, though i do think the solution he’s proposing is more of the problem rather than an antidote. .

I don’t know how someone is saying Obama have no clue about what he is doing. May be some are so angry that they do not remember what our country lives the last eight years like for example been in a war we really are not suppose to be and all the wrongdoings from Bush. The last wrongdoing was how he favored his friends taking the first half of the bail out to give to his friends without any rules, yes, that is whet Paulson did with the first half of the 350B given to him. More than that, some CEOs and high rank executives were granted bonus and some million dollars as incentives from the tax payers money. Did that actions reflect the duties of a person knowing what he was doing? At least Obama have one of the best team in regards to economic issues and other important areas.

To all you cynics and critics with your sarcastic talk…Shut up already! Bush was given 8 years to make this country better and he did the exact opposite. It amazes me that people can still say Bush’s name with a smile and yet utter such negative words when speaking of our new President. Stop sitting around hoping the man fails as President. His triumphs and failures affect us all. I’d much rather have more victories than defeats. On that note GO PRESIDENT OBAMA I have faith in your mission and vision for this country.

Oh and the IDOTS who made comments regarding “this miracle” he supposedly proclaimed. That’s just not true.
PRESIDENT OBAMA ……………
(just eats you up doesn’t it..lol)
has been open and honest about the road ahead not being easy and smooth, but it’s not impossilbe if we all do SOMETHING to help.

people realize who Bush really is !!!!!
There is no word in dictionary to describe his incompetence, I even won’t
try. I’m amased INFINIT how brainwashed
and uneducated a lot of people are;

CW posted “Gosh the people moaning and whining. Give a man a chance. Its like some on this blog look forward to or wish that he fails. Your economy must be better than mine. I wouldnt care if it was the man in the moon sitting in the white house, ….”
Way to go.
Given the fact that he is our President and I am not willing to do the job/have the capability to solve our nation’s problems, I might as well support our leader. All those of you who have a better plan than he does, run for public office. I don’t have a better plan so I am just going to try and do my bit and shut my mouth, and pray for my leader. If it was a Republican in office, I would have done the same.
Quit whining.

BTW,
Maybe if it was a white man at the helm, the O-haters may have been less critical, is it? Dunno, just curious….
I am “brown” and was amused by the Reverend’s little speech but since like most Asians, I am educated and successful, I have the IQ not to confuse one man’s words with Obama’s leadership.
USA is a great country but over the last 8 years have provided enough entertainment to the world. I am glad that the Bush circus has rolled out of town…I think our citizens need to do some travelling in this global economy to realize the damage Bush has done to USA’s reputation.
Because global economies are sointerdependent, foreign policy assumes greater significance and isolationism is no longer affordable. It is not a mtter of liberal vs rightwingers. It is a mater of economic survival.
A new leader (Republican or Democrat) brings hope. Let’s get our act together and be unified.
