Judy Shephard, I looked up the Massachusetts health insurance law and it is fairly reasonable. The state covers the cost completely if you are at the poverty level, (family of four, $21,00) and pays partially up to 3 times that income, (family of four, $63,000)
The idea that everyone needs health insurance is a given. Without it people tend to use emergency rooms for common complaints, which we all end up paying for through higher hospital charges.
And delaying going to the doctor can turn something easy to treat into something much more difficult or even fatal. The untimely death of a loved one impacts society in a financial way, pushing families into poverty if their primary breadwinner is gone. Many bankruptcies are from serious illnesses not covered by insurance.
Health insurance for everyone is an idea whose time has come.
Just as social security payments are taken out of our paychecks to provide for us when we no longer work, health insurance payments are a guarantee that you can afford to stay healthy.

I have deep concerns about a news cast I listen to the other day. It was about the Massachuetts law that fined individuals if they did not have health insurance. I had to retire early (worked for the state) I could not get insurance for less that $700.00 mo and my husband has to continue to work to get us insurance. We now pay $400.00 a month with a high deductable. I see young people every day that do not make enough to pay for clothing and food for their children. I am outraged that a state legislature would pass a law to fine its people $900.00 because they are too poor to buy health insurance. There is some thing wrong with this country when people go without health insurance, without medical treatment, without medicine and go with out food to pay fines the Government imposes on the poor. Any elected person that votes for a bill such as this should be removed from office. I will use my vote to get such out of office and I will encourage all Americans to stand up for their rights and vote these people out. Apparently these elected officials do not understand. We need a web site where individuals can view and comment on proprosals. Hillary Clinton had a great web site when she was running and accepted reponses from the people.

Fitness programs are used as preventive medicines and most people have realized that exercise is good for good health.

Our Company quit providing Health insurance, so everyone (10 of us) has to pay for our own private insurance if they want it.
I doubt this will get the Co. to start it up again.

so if the business, has to pay a percentage of payroll to a public fund, if they don't provide insurance, question is where does that money go and what will they use it for?

look it won't make difference to walmart, they will keep doing what they are doing now, and that is not give their workers enough hours to be eligable for a health care plan from the company

Small businesses will support affordable health care coverage for its employees. The situation right now is very dire for small businesses and most are without appropriate health coverage or are paying a very high price.
