Canada (Hearts) Obama?
As President Obama arrived in Canada this morning, newspapers were singing his praises, with his image splashed across their front pages. “OBAMA ENVY” — the Ottawa Sun said in boldface font, in an article explaining how the majority of Canadians would pick President Obama over the current prime minister, or any of the opposition leaders. “DEAR MR. PRESIDENT: WE’RE CONFUSED AND WE NEED YOUR HELP,” the front page of The Globe and Mail read, accompanied by a picture of a woman carrying a life-size cutout of Obama through the streets of Ottawa. The Ottawa Sun — in an article on page 4 — questioned, “HOW LONG WILL THE LOVE AFFAIR LAST?” — mentioning local merchants hoping to capitalize on the U.S. president’s popularity by selling “Pizza Obama,” and “Obama Hawaiian Punch.” — Sunlen Miller Photo by Sunlen Miller

***************************************************
Oh? I beg your pardon; cat’s are hardly a confused species. Our focus allows us to climb trees with ease and to swoop upon prey with one, graceful leap of motion. We are indeed masters as getting the two leggeds to do our bidding through our powers of discernment and again, focus. PBO is one cool, calculated cat with a feline intensity of focus. I’d advise you to get a more substantial scratching post, like Governor Palin or Karl Rove. They provide excellent practice for strengthening one’s claws.

You would think that any “true” American would feel proud to have their President greeted with such enthusiasm by other nations.
This kind of pettiness helps to separate the people who have true policy disagreements with Obama and those who just dislike him for no other reason than the fact that its him.
Some of these comments just show how ignorant and childish some people truly are!
Posted by: Dee | February 19, 2009, 4:19 pm 4:19 pm
Sorry that you Obama haters just cannot accept the fact that people just happen to like this guy, including the Americans who voted for him by a big plurality and people in foreign countries who like him as well and would have voted for him too if they could have. It must truly gall you that he is so well liked, so you pick on every little thing he does. The man is doing his job, the job for which he was elected, and you are complaining that he should stay home and work. Working is what he is doing. He uses AF-1 so it won’t take him two days to travel to where he has to go to speak to foreign dignitaries or Governors of states, and he gets criticized for that. He gets slammed for anything he does by you guys. You got nothing else so you get petty. Typical. It’s what you did during the Presidential campaign too, and how did that work out for ya’??

Dow Closes at Its Lowest Level in More Than Six Years

It’s not a huge thing, but how can anyone possibly see a problem with the United States chief diplomat being popular with foreign nations? This is all, 100% good for us – we’re getting better press for free around the world than our last administration could buy.

I think it must have been about eight years since people from another country have actually cheered for our leader. Of all countries we might want on our side Canada is right up there. And with they wholeheartedly concur with a majority of us— that seems to be a sign that we did something right.

I think everyone forgets that the US was the great land of opportunity and that’s why so many wanted to be here. The opportunity to excel and create and be as successful you could be. It’s a shame that there is corruption and greed out there and at the same turn, it’s a shame that there are lazy people and those who believe they are entitled to everyone else’s success. It’s a tragedy when the two meet because let’s be honest, there’s 5% of both making the rest of the 90% suffer. This is not the country it was 20 yrs. ago and it’s hard to grasp how much worse it will be in 10 yrs. All those screaming about repubs, well, anger is ok for the past 8 yrs. There are things that have been done wrong. It would serve everyone to remember that noone is perfect and that includes each and every administration. That should make us focus on the here and now and in which direction you want the next 4-8 yrs. to go. Right now, I’m losing faith in all of government and w/ everyone in the tank for someone, well…it’s like a sinking hole. I’m going to let my anger and frustration go because it’s not doing me any good and believe that what is-is and god willingly, we change where change is needed and people will collectively open their eyes to work for the good. God bless America.

It has been a huge honor to have President Obama visit Canada today. This is not celebrity worship – it’s simply recognizing Obama’s greatness.I only wish that prime minister Harper – a close pal of Bush – was half the man Obama is. Then maybe we could see some actual attempts to address environmental issues instead of blaming Bush which doesn’t erase the fact that Harper’s pending new environment legislation is pathetic. I sincerely hope Obama stands his ground on not accepting filthy oil. Maybe Canadians will smarten up and realise we can do better than Harper.

The USA should be proud to have elected such a thoughtful and articulate man to their highest office. America’s president could once again be “the leader of the free world”. It’s been a long time since that’s been true. USA and Canada, good friends once again!

MMMmm ….just as a gentle reminder, Canada can cut off their oil, natural gas, hydro, & minerals, etc. to us! Remember we have no resources left of our own & we cannot go to Ak for it…the way we let them treat poor Sen.Palin. Besides the USA no longer has a working economy since we just printed another $gazillion$ of worthless monopoly money (the US $ is backed by …er…nothing)! May I remind you,the Canadian Government has printing presses also…& there is no reason the Canadian Government cannot print up of few $ trillion Cdn dollars of our own also! The USA is a 3rd world country right now…they just have not examined all their fiat banks yet!

Also a reminder that the state of Alaska is bigger (in every sense of the word) than the officeholder Palin.

Canadians love to hate the USA. They’re always acting like they’re better than Americans, but at the same time secretly wish to be more like Americans. It looks like now they have found something else to be jealous of: the American Commander In Chief.

Julia, Obama’s greatness? you have got to be kidding? What greatness? what’s he done excatly that lends itself to greatness let alone him? So he won an election with the help of the msm and millions of dollars from undisclosed donators, He rushed the largest spending pork bill in history down our throats and has broken many of his campagine promises. Oh yes, I see the greatness now.

A very elderly Canadian remembers being perplexed as to why so many Americans despised FDR. In the 90′s Canadians couldn’t fathom why Bill Clinton was so viciously pillored. Now there’s some very nasty language about President Obama going around (not to mention a “cartoon” depicting him as a chimp shot by the NYPD).
Canadians admire the US, and strive to be good neighbours. But we really do shake our heads in utter bewilderment at REPUBLICANS.
Posted by: AJ | February 20, 2009, 3:03 am 3:03 am
Ok…lets see, we are in the middle of a global economic melt down and rather than focus on what we can do to support our new President in his goal to make things better, we choose to bicker and focus on petty differences. Only when we choose to focus our eye on the ball will things get better.
Canada is a major trading partner with the USA and Canadians also want to contribute to providing a solution so that we can all get back to work.
Restoration of confidence will be paramount in solving this issue. Hateful and dustructive comments do not contribute to the solution. Canadians love and respect Americans and the fact that they gave the new President a warm welcome is something that we all should be proud of.

“A very elderly Canadian remembers being perplexed as to why so many Americans despised FDR.”
In general, Americans despise government control. It was abusive government that caused our first revolution. Our nation and our constitution are built around true freedom. Freedom to succeed and freedom to fail. The left want to take from the successful to make up for the shortcomings of those that fail. That is the beginnings of government control and abuse. It probably won’t be long before the nation has yet another revolution, one not necessarily violent but I wouldn’t rule it out.
So when Americans see government sees more government control, more spending of our money, and then asking to take more, we get understandably edgy. Canada can be Canada, but we really could care less what you think of us. We can’t make decisions about our nation and our future to make foreign nations happy.

” focus on what we can do to support our new President in his goal to make things better”
If those of us who study history disagree that what he is doing will make things better, instead of trying to point out why this doesn’t work, we should just shut up and watch? That’s not American. When the Presidents own bipartisan committee points out that this bill will cause long term harm, when history proves FDR’s “New Deal” made no difference and only threw our nation into debt, we should just “forget the past and look into the future”?
Don’t think so. History repeats itself. Pointing it out doesn’t make you focus on “bicker and petty differences”. It’s trying to point out historical reference.

“The USA is a 3rd world country right now”
Wow Robert, have you been to a 3rd world country? I’m guessing not because that statement couldn’t be further from the truth. The poverty just about everywhere but the west is something you probably couldn’t even imagine. That is a silly exaggeration.

Result, Boston Tea party and an American Revolution.
