Conservatives Warn of ‘Socialism’ at Conference

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: It’s not easy to miss the buzzword of this year’s Conservative Political Action Committee meeting. Conservatives are jumping on congressional spending and President Obama’s new budget to slam the president for fostering what they argue is a “socialist” agenda. “The stimulus, the omnibus, the budget — it’s all one big down payment on a new American socialism,” House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, plans to say Friday, according to excerpts provided to ABC. “Lenin and Stalin would love this stuff,” former Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., said Thursday. Former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., plans to say: “President Obama was awfully vague about some of his plans, but I think I heard him say that government is responsible for educating a child from birth — from birth — to its first job. Universal pre-school. And there were hints as well of universal college, universal healthcare and a universal service corps. It all sounds very appealing, until you realize that these plans involve universal government.”
