David Axelrod’s Daughter
A very moving story in today’s PARADE Magazine about Lauren Axelrod, the daughter of White House senior adviser David Axelrod and his wife Susan Landau. Lauren has epilepsy, and the story of her struggle — and her parents’ courage, and activism with the group CURE (Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy) — is quite compelling.

I can feel sorry for the David, his wife and daughter having this personal challenge to deal with.
On the other hand, Mr Axelrod had did absolutley nothing for middle class american instead choosing to focus his efforts on the betterment of the upper class via contemptuous methods which have only made live more mserable for most of us. How on earth does this ‘clinton era’ political opperative manage to hang on in Washington. So much for ‘our saviour Barrack’s call to ‘change’.
It’s time for the middle class to rise up against axelrod and his ilk. That includes both republicans and democrats.
Their is no difference in them. Each is out for his own greater glory and wealth. Whatever happened to representation for the people by the people. Since when did ‘business’ become a person?
We are doomed as nation unless we can somehow muster up enough courage in the m’silent majority’ to whip the government back into shape.

I’m sorry Lauren Axelrod has epilepsy. My daughter has too and she was also diagnosed at the age of seven months. Her seizures, while far, far fewer than Lauren’s, are also idiopathic. My daughter can’t take Keppra, which is very successful for many people. She takes a combination of two other drugs, Carbatrol and Lamictal, and they do control her seizures.
I’m a little disappointed that the Axelrods felt the need to start a new group to explore findng a cure, etc. when the Epilepsy Foundation has been around for a while doing just that. Did they have to be in control?
It’s interesting, but not a surprise, to read that one of the first people to sign on to help them was Hillary Clinton, then First Lady. Yet, that didn’t stop still Lauren’s father from treating Hillary Clinton in a disgusting manner during the primary campaign. He is a real piece of work.

What’s REALLY “quite compelling” is the “Obama” organization’s happy-talk saturation of the mass media this weekend, extending through Monday.
The pharmaceutical underpinning of the Parade tale will be noted by many, and mentioned by few:
“The baby was so congested, it was impossible for her to sleep. Our pediatrician said to give her one-quarter of an adult dose of a cold medication, and it knocked her out immediately. I didn’t hear from Lauren the rest of the night. In the morning, I found her gray and limp in her crib. I thought she was dead.”
As to “courage”, sitting up with a sick baby — and using a simple vaporizer for “congestion”, rather than leaving a baby “knocked out” on God knows what drug and alone — might be a way to go to avoid the sudden onset of “epilepsy”.

Human Intelligence,
You’re absolutely correct. My children’s pediatrician NEVER recommended giving adult medication. Weren’t a mother and father prosecuted recently for giving their child adult meds and causing the death of their child? I’d have to Google that, I don’t remember the details.

“My children’s pediatrician NEVER recommended giving adult medication.”
This dubious tale of “courage” claims a “pediatrician” prescribed the (unnamed) drug which the Axelrods seem to have had handy, but … all kinds of unlikely stories, about all kinds of people, have been spun by Axelrod in his pursuit of political propaganda and … “fundraising”.
In this case, the Axelrods will garner precious little admiration from people who actually READ the Parade piece, but in the meantime, it’s another cover story in the “Obama” propaganda bag.
Old saying: “Paper will lie still and let you write anything on it.”

You’re “disappointed”? Only “a little”?
The politically-attractive thing about having one’s OWN non-profit is that it can be used to funnel tons of $ to a multitude of staff — including executive directors and others who are paid like pashas — to pay for travel, conferences, etc., to develop relationships with open-handed rich people, etc. … and next to nobody suggests that money-laundering could be involved, because non-profits are widely assumed to be benign “charity” enterprises.

My heart goes out to Lauren Axelrod.

Human Intelligence.
My “little disappointed” was considerably watered down from my initial thoughts! I was trying not to be incendiary, so I went with understatement. LOL!
I hadn’t even considered the fabulous money-laundering potential of their very own non-profit. I was a stuck in the being-a-parent-of-a-child-with-epilepsy mode of thought.

I am also very sorry that Lauren Axelrod has epilepsy. Hopefully, no one wishes any afflictions or maladies on anyone. I still do not like David Axelrod or his tactics.
I believe the economic meltdown has been engineered. There is absolutely no way that a bunch of “highly educated” Yale and Harvard trained experts (who brought down the economy) didn’t see this coming. They are making it happen intentionally. This is a Socialist takeover.

I feel compassion for folks who deal with this kind of stuff. My wife is currently receiving hospice care at home – she is dying from a brain tumor. We’ve had lot so fun seizures to deal with.
That being said, Daddy Axelrod and his client’s policies will probably see me into the poor house. I can’t afford my wife’s care, and insurance doesn’t pay for them very well. People like us make too much to get assistance, but too little to afford the care.
“Change we can believe in”? I do believe my wife will die, and the changes made by this administration may see that day come sooner than later.
Some historian said that when the people discover that they can vote themselves money out of the treasury, that nation is doomed. I think we are there now.

Hoping for a care…..save it. “I still don’t like Axelrod”…get a life. You don’t like him because of what? What effects has he had or will have on your life. Get real. Just say, I don’t “like him” because he is an adviser to President Obama. He should feel or say, “So What”!

Thanks for directing us to this Parade article, Mr. Tapper, and to publicizing Ms. Axelrod’s story. My heart goes out to this young woman and her family, particularly her mother. My heart also goes out to you, Mike, and your wife. All these suffering people will be in my prayers.
I think it was a good thing that the families banded together and became advocates for epilepsy research. Since everyone seems determined to put a political spin on this thread, I’ll add my two-cents worth of observation on this point: I’m thankful that in this country, we can do such things. I worry that a nationalized health care system might mean government prioritizing of research and treatment and not allow such private efforts.

Beautiful story, read it this morning. I hope they find a cure for epilepsy and other diseases. The mother-daughter bond is an amazing thing.
That said, there is no denying the David Axelrod of evil.
…the Tribune finally admitted that it was Axelrod and the Obama campaign that brought pressure on the press to demand the unsealing of M. Blair Hull divorce records, which had had their contents leaked to media outlets by the Obama campaign even earlier. The Obama campaign also helped orchestrate a demonstration by women’s groups demanding Hull’s withdrawal from the race. Coincidentally, this was the same weekend Obama’s first commercials hit the airwaves. Interestingly (or maybe not), the same exact thing happened to another of his rivals-Jack Ryan. Certainly gives one pause.

How in he world would affordable and accessible health insurance preclude private research? Besides, Obama never proposed a “national health care system.”

I’ll add there are major differences between a nationalized health care and nationalized insurance system. For instance, Spain and the UK have nationalized health care services, where free to low cost services are provided through taxation and insurance is available as a private option on the side. Whereas, Canada and France have nationalized insurance which employees and employers pay into, again with a private insurance option.
We’re the only developed nation without comprehensive coverage for its citizens. Unfortunately, I think the GOP obstructionism will rear it’s ugly head in a way similar to the early 1990 attacks to Hillary Clinton plans. Do I hear the mantras of Europeanization of America and socialized medicine? But in all fairness, the AMA and pharmaceutical companies will be engaged in the battle, too, with their bipartisan cohorts.

My heart goes out to all those suffering from epilepsy, especially those who can’t find medications that work or are forced to use meds that have terrible side effects.
As to those that criticize those that support CURE, rather than giving to the Epilepsy Foundation, please read up on the differences between the two groups. And then think about how many different foundations raise money to fight cancer.
The important thing here is more people are learning about epilepsy and more money is going into research which means the day of a cure is a bit closer.

Certainly gives one an idea why John Edwards didn’t just flatten Obama on national teevee when Obama patted Edwards on the shoulder during a debate and called him “the white guy”.
Suppose the “Obama” machine set Edwards up with little what’s-her-name … drugs, booze, what-not, kind of a political badger game?

I cried,and felt Susan’s pain as a mother.
My son started seizures when he was six and half month old. He’s also diagnosed with Down Sydrome, Neurofibromatosis type I, as well as Infantile Spasms. He has tried Vigabatrin, ACTH,Phenobarb,Prednisone, Topamax, Ranitidine, Clobazam,Taper Ethosuximide, Val proic Acid, and Topamax. Unfortunately, he’s still having 30 – 38 seizures per day now. He is 18 month old now. My husband and I are exausted and heartbroken to see that he is suffering from multiple seizures. We were told yesterday by his doctor that he is the candidate for Ketogenic Diet. And will start this diet next month. This is our hope to stop the seizures for our little baby.

this report is about a families struggle with epilepsy, what does President Obama have to do with anything? Come on, people. Focus on the issue.

They castigated Sarah Palin when she talked about “death panels.” What would you call these?
A doctor’s first fine will be $100,000 and his second offense is prison. I can’t imagine staying in the medical profession.
Anyone close to being a senior, or has senior parents or grandparents will want to be aware of this PROFOUND effect on seniors.
