Michelle Obama is Vogue’s Cover Girl Next Month

ABC News’ Yunji de Nies and Sunlen Miller report:

First lady Michelle Obama is on the cover of next month’s Vogue magazine, making her the second first lady to don the fashion magazine’s cover.

Photographed for Vogue’s March issue by famed photographer Annie Leibowitz and interviewed by Andre Leon Talley, Mrs. Obama is shown in a magenta dress seated on a sofa in the Hay Adams Hotel in Washington, DC. The dress is by Jason Wu, the man who designed her white floor-length inaugural ball gown. In addition, inside the magazine are portraits of Mrs. Obama in a J. Crew cardigan, and a Narcisco Rodriguez dress.

Mrs. Obama in an interview with the magazine tells Vogue of her own style, "I love clothes…First and foremost, I wear what I love. That’s what women have to focus on: what makes them feel good about themselves and have fun with fashion."

On her new role as First Lady Mrs. Obama talked about her own upbringing, "We learned in our household that there was nothing you couldn’t talk about and that you found humor in even the toughest of times. I want to bring that spirit of warmth, openness, and stability to my task," she said in the interview.

While Mrs. Obama has been on the covers of many magazines in the past – “Ebony” and “Essence” among others — this is her first as First Lady.

Aides in the First Lady’s office expect Mrs. Obama to sit for other such covers– they say it’s part of introducing her and the family to the American people. Mrs. Obama has said that she has a desire to give her daughters and other young African American women the opportunity to see people who look like them on the cover of magazines.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was the only former First Lady to make the cover of Vogue in 1998. During the presidential race last February Mrs. Clinton was set to appear on the cover, but backed out – apparently concerns were raised that in the heat of the campaign against then Senator Obama, that she would appear “too feminine.”:

In her editor’s letter that month, Anna Wintour wrote, "The notion that a contemporary woman must look mannish in order to be taken seriously as a seeker of power is frankly dismaying."

Yes,why not,the first lady should be a cover girl and a fashion icon.If Mrs Bush was not it does not mean that an
age of indulgence has succeeded an age of austerity,What it means is that optimism is carried forward by a partnership which should work for america.

We’ve seen the Obamas on the cover of absolutely everything for almost two years now–oversaturation.
We get it–he’s the first biracial president. America is so cool, the world will love us.

Posted by: sammy | February 11, 2009, 8:33 am 8:33 am

You mean, Michelle Obama? That America-hating woman? That woman who’s never proud of her country? You mean, the “new Jackie”? We should all rush out and buy a copy!

Posted by: Mihann | February 11, 2009, 8:44 am 8:44 am

I agree with you sammy, oversaturation….everywhere you look you see the Obamas….well, it is great that they are the first BIRACIAL (yes, NOT Afican american only) presidential couple…enough is enough.
I do like them very much, but, let them do what they were voted in to do…..be the President and First Lady of United States. I am sure they will do the best job possible.

Posted by: M | February 11, 2009, 8:48 am 8:48 am

Ok. We get it. It’s a huge thing that the First Couple is African American….but please…enough with the gushing……it’s sickening….
I think even the Obama’s are getting fed up with it….
We hired the best man for a very important job….let him get on with it….

Posted by: opedanderson | February 11, 2009, 8:48 am 8:48 am

To Mihann,
Yes, I will rush out and get a copy, which is what me and most of my family and friends have done! She graces our coffee tables! They are collector items!
And Sammy, in this country, Obama is African American. Like all African Americans, he is a mixed blend of several races including African, Native American and white. You didn’t know that?

Posted by: Informed | February 11, 2009, 8:53 am 8:53 am

Why is it that when we click on the article we get a picture of Jake Tapper? I’d rather see Michelle Obama.

Posted by: stan | February 11, 2009, 8:53 am 8:53 am

Vogue knows a good thing when they see it; Mrs. Obama promotes American design, especially young, emerging designers. It would be great is she could use her “celebrity” to benefit these small entrepreneurs. When the retail clothing industry is suffering, this kind of focus can be very helpful!
But “cover girl” for a professional woman in her 40s? Tacky title, Political Punch.

Posted by: Jo | February 11, 2009, 8:54 am 8:54 am

Who cares what Anna Wintour thinks? The Obamas need to watch their public exposure very carefully to know when saturation point has been reached, and then cool it. By the way, this is a reader comment, not a user comment.

Mihann — Uhm… Muslim is religion not a race….
Informed — No, sammy most likely didn’t know that since it doesn’t fit into “Tigerazaton” of Pres. Obama, you know when he was running he was black, now that he won, they have to make sure they say “well, he’s half white” same as they did with Tiger Woods, he was the black kid, he started winning he became “well, he’s not all black!” It makes people who have issues feel a bit better, sad isn’t it!

What’s Vogue and who cares? I didn’t even realize it still existed. I’ve never seen a copy in someone’s house, at the doctor’s office, dentist, etc…so who buys it?
(Oh, and I agree with many of you…not attractive and enough of the Obama family being shoved in our faces already! Ohhh..I wonder if Sasha is having chicken nuggets at school today… Not to mention what an annoying speaker Michelle is, her insincere pompous deliveries are bad enough to neutralize his charisma at the podium.)

I wouldn’t go THAT far, although I would say that she COULD scare many men up a tree.
I would say that she is definitely unattractive. She does more for me than a cold shower.

Posted by: Mr. Incredible | February 11, 2009, 9:36 am 9:36 am

It doesn’t surprise me to see postings from the blog readers declaring Michelle Obama ugly. Could it be they’re applying white standards of attractiveness onto a black woman?
I have some concerns also about the rampant editorializing of Hillary Clinton not being on Vogue last year. It reads with more silliness, than clarity, with Sunlen Miller and Yunji de Nies looking like a couple of reporters from a high school paper- sophmoric would be a good word in describing tis report.

Posted by: kathy | February 11, 2009, 9:38 am 9:38 am

You who ‘hate’ the Obama’s should be ashamed. They are beautiful people with a desire to help the American people rise above the ashes of your party’s runaway governing. What did George W do for you? Keep us safe? We were attacked on his watch. Only get us in a crisis probably bigger than the great depression? Start a war that we never should have been in..which by the way has cost us our military lives..not to mention $$ trillions of dollars? The list goes on and on..and YOU republican hypocriates are going to bash the looks of our first lady? SHAME SHAME

Shouldn’t Michelle Obama be trying to help the needy, people with ailments and such instead of doing Magazine Cover shoots. Tells me a lot of her true background. Looks as though her focus is wrong, but why would I be suprised?

She looks absolutely beautiful.

She’s not ugly, she’s not gorgeous, she’s simply average and does very well with what she’s got. And that’s fine. Why not put the First Lady on the cover of Vogue? Indeed, I’d prefer to see a well-educated First Lady, a wife and mother with a normal body, on that cover than an underfed teenager who dropped out of high school to model.
And why bother to make snarky remarks about it?

More like throwing her in our faces. I haven’t purchased anything from mainstream bookstores because I’m sick of seeing Obama’s face plastered on every shelf. It’s one thing to have publicity but it’s another thing to indoctrinate.
Aside from that, why aren’t black judges, CEO’s, college professors, and etc, ever shown to the public? It’s as if Obama is the only black man to succeed in life.

Please source the quote that says she was NEVER proud of her country. That is NOT what she said. Also source a quote where she stated he HATES America. I grow so weary of you tools on here that do nothing but spew the same talking points you hear via talk radio. And yes I can tell you that there are times when America has been on the wrong side of history. To claim that you’ve ALWAYS been proud of your country is just as ludicrous to say you’ve always HATED your country. Both statements are absent of critical thought, but they do provide fodder for the ignorant.

I think Michele Obama is an attractive woman but her fashion sense (cringeworthy at times) does not translate to the cover of a high end fashion magazine. It’s time to dial it back a bit… maybe, Good Housekeeping.

To all the complainers out there. If you were an African American, you would understand why the “First” Black/African American President and the “First” Black/African American Family contiues to appear on the covers of magazines and in the media. Please stop complaining and begin supporting “your/our” new President. Even if you were not a fan of our Ex-President Bush, he was shown respect. Even after he threw us into war, drove this country to the state that our new president has to try to dig us out of and left the White House with the “worse” record of any previous president. Let’s get over it and try to live in this messed up country as civilized humans. What are you doing to try to make the world a better place?? To the naysayers (as I told my colleague this morning during our debate about Mr. Obama), you really, REALLY need to look within yourself to uncover why you dislike these people so much. Why you are so quick to grab a hold of and embrace negative commentary so tightly; wish a prophecy of failure; all on people who have been in the White House for less than 3 weeks… In some cases, it pure racism (I know that hated word! …and this is whether the person knows it or not), and in other cases it is just pure envy and jealousy. Policy differentiation many times is just the after-thought. So think about it.
Now! Who was the photographer of this beautiful photo! I challenge you (those who have an interest) with this exercise; google “Jackie Kennedy” and within the search; “Vanity Fair” Click on the images tab and…. well, notice any similarities?

vogue magazine was first published in 1892 bought by conde naste in 1909
so NO not every first lady has been on the cover of vogue
hillary clinton was the first
the bush two daughters were in a spread inside the magazine not on the cover
michelle obama is only the second first lady to be on the cover of vogue
try to get your facts straight

Michelle Obama is a lovely woman and a great role model for ALL American girls, regardless of “race”. Michelle’s ancestry, like most people of “African American ancestry”, includes White European American roots. Barack is not “biracial”, he is the son of an African/Arabic father and a European American mother. Obama is an American of African ancestry. His “African” ancestry is not “American”, so he is not like James Earl Jones, Tina Turner, Eartha Kitt or Chaka Khan who are Black(descendants of American Slaves from Africa), White and Native American.
Tiger Woods himself, does not identify as “Black” because he honors his mother and her ancestry too. Tiger Woods is African, European and Native – American through his late father and Thai and Chinese through his mother. Tiger’s children Sam and Charlie are half-Swedish. This makes them multiracial and mixed, not “Black”. Enough with this race categorization being forced upon people who are not monoracial.

Barack and Michelle have brought sexiness back to the White House!!! I would be willing to bet that Barack’s sexiness was a small part of him getting elected. Americans are so vain that if Barack was ugly as a thug, he wouldn’t have even been nominated. You negative posters on here probably aren’t sexy or good looking yourselves and you’re just jealous. So pphhfftt!!!

Vogue is simply trying to sell magazines. It must have been a hard choice to put Michelle Obama, who is a fashion disaster on the cover but money talks….
Vogue did go way overboard in the cover headline claiming that Michelle Obama is “The First Lady the world has been waiting for”. Please stop this nonsense.
The “world” has not changed it’s opinion of “us” one bit. Effigies of Bush have been replaced with Obama and are now burning in Iran, Egypt and elsewhere. The so-called “creative coalition” is anything but, they all go around pontificating and looking foolish spouting their identical talking points, “the world has done a 180 degree turn since the election” blah, blah, blah, It’s simply not true.
Hillary Clinton is doing the hard work of changing perceptions of the U.S. around the world.
Hillary Clinton should have been our President. Missed opportunties indeed. My Dem party chose the wrong candidate. Obama is simply not up to the task. The so-called stimulus package is a disgrace.

Stand tall my sister and thanks to all civil minded Americans of all stripes that smack down this ignorance.

BTW, what did Laura Bush accomplish during her first month as First Lady? I am having a hard time thinking of anything. The Republican Party was demoted this election, therefore, they have immense defense mechanisms (mask of anxiety, a mental illness). These Republican Party members will be as nasty, ugly, negative, and as evil as the Devil himself to try to pull anyone who is good, decent, moral, happy, and very much in love with each other and with the American people down to their miserable undesirable selves. So, when you read these comments that contain such negativity, just know there is a person who is very miserable behind the words. It’s is fact that most counties that contain mostly Republicans have high intake of antidepressant drugs. There’s your answer, these people can’t handle life unless they control others because they can’t control their own mental health and core issues. Conservatives and Republicans, get a life unless you are too scared and afraid to do so.

What is really troubling to me is the fact that, again, a woman is being diparaged for her “looks”. What does it matter whether anyone finds Michelle Obama attrctive, lovely, beautiful, average, plain or ugly? She is an American Woman who has made the most of her own particular appearance and has not succumbed to any techniques or procedures to attain some artificially enhanced shell of beauty. So what if she is not Halle Berry or Beyonce. Michelle Obama is an intelligent, classy human being, whose beauty shines most brightly from where it really matters, from within. Why does her outer shell matter anyway? Does not her heart, mind and soul matter most? Is not the content of her character more important than the facade of superficial beauty? I think girls around the world would feel better about themselves as human beings to see a woman who cares more for cultivating what is truly important and of real value as a role model.

Why would ANY First Lady want to be on the cover of Vogue or any fashion or celebrity magazine?
Is it some teenage girls wish that they always dreamed to be on the cover of a fashion magazine, but because of her position (not her looks) she finally got the chance to do it?

I believe that most of the American people, specially during this economy crises, don’t care who is on the oover of a Vogue Magazine. People are loosing their job along with their homes, health insurance… I thought this new administration will keep the focus on the American people real needs “jobs”.

Vogue is about appearance, and this story is about her being on the cover of that mag.

Michelle looks great and exudes a beautiful and honest impression that can be admired by all americans. As a side note, the fact that Hillary assumed (and probably her campaign people as well) she would look a little too feminine if she had done the cover of Vogue (during the campaign) while seeking the nomination is a bit disconcerting. This thought process only re-validates the inept notion that women need to be more masculine-like when seeking positions of authority in society and that is very un-becoming of a figure of her stature. All we need to do is look around american society and note that nearly 50% of all households are run by single parents who are women (not to mention other parts of the world). A little less vanity and more realism is expected from the secretary of state in the future.

Posted by: Jenner | February 11, 2009, 12:13 pm 12:13 pm

I don’t recall any problems with Grace Jones being on the cover of Vogue, remember the model actress former girlfriend of Sylvester Stallone. Jones wasn’t that gorgeous but was very muscular and toned. Most men like women who have toned muscles and most men really don’t like “wimpy” women. Only men who like wimpy women are men who like to control these women, but there isn’t any respect there. I am glad that Michelle Obama has brought back the “strong” woman who also has the gorgeous looks. She is a great role model for women today who love their men and also are healthy, beautiful, and who thinks for herself. Women who say “You have to ask my husband”, are just so fake and incomplete individuals.
Most men who don’t like strong women aren’t strong themselves. They are weak men who really like weaker women. Pathetic, disgusting, and very unappealing.

The “American standard” of beauty, traditionally, has not included Black women, Asian woman or Latinas. In the past, Black women were not even considered beautiful by White standards. I grew up in an America where the celebration of my beauty had to come from within my community, and where my (multicultural) features were not included in mainstream media, and certainly not in fashion magazines.
I celebrate Mrs. O in her new American standard of beauty. So what she is not traditionally beautiful. Her beauty is only magnified by her intelligence and spirit! It is important that women of color are celebrated in this country, as well as the traditional, “European” standard.

Posted by: NatFrankie | February 11, 2009, 12:30 pm 12:30 pm

Michelle Obama is a beautiful woman with a lovely and cute face. Most men like darker skin toned women but most men only fantasize.
The criticism in these comments are mainly from women, who are so critical of anyone who is more famous and more beautiful than themselves, which is telling of who they really are — immature mentally, emotionally, and physically in accepting of themselves. How many women have gotten involved in their communities and actually have made differences for the better in other individuals and families’ lives? Inner beauty makes outer beauty that much more beautiful.
Michelle is a real woman who is true to herself. She can teach all of us a lesson about loving, accepting, and giving of ourselves, which is why Michelle is so beautiful and a perfect choice for March, the beginning of newness and freshness.

NatFrankie, your comment has nothing to do with this article, and Bush is the one who made the agreement with Banks and Credit Card Companies (Extension of Banks to make monies off of consumers who don’t pay their balances in full). Unfortunately, it is because it does matter. It is because we still have Americans being categorized and divided according to “race, color, ethnicity and origins” in order to bestow benefits upon some who are of a particular race or ethnic group. People still unite under the banner of race, ethnicity or origins in order to have social and political power. The U.S. Census STILL makes race and ethnciity an issue. When we fill out forms we still have to mark what race or ethnicity we are and identify with. Birth Certificates still ask what race/ethnicity the paretns are and what the child’s race/ethnicity will be.
WE have all sorts of “groups” uniting in order to make changes, or force average Americans to have to accept the ways, beliefs and cultures of other peoples…that is why America has La Raza, the NAACP, Arab Councils, Jewish Groups, Islamic and Muslim Leagues, Hawaiian Sovereignty Groups, Asian American Groups, Immigrant Groups etc., in order for people of particular races, religions and ethnicities to get what THEY want for THEIR particular people of their particular color, race, ethnic group, origins and religion/faith, INSTEAD of ALL of us being treated equally and fairly, as Americans and human beings.
That is why we now have more and more schools catering to particualr immigrant groups of their particular ethnicity, culture and religion, instead of ensuring that they integrate within American society and culture and be with American children. That is why Public Universities are being forced to accomodate Islam by making prayer rooms and places to wash hands and feet. Money being spent on particular “groups” to make things better according to THEIR culture and religion, instead of making such public funds beneficial to ALL regardless of race, ethnicity, religion and cultural roots.
People will self-identify in order to have some group unity in order to benefit. It is not about equality or fairness. It is about people still separating themselves from others according to their race, religion, ethnicty and origins so that they can have things made for their particular way of life that directly impacts other people.
The day that any American is not automatically identified as of a particular race or of whatever ethnic, cultural and religious origins but simply as a “human being” is a day when we all can be equal as Americans.

jpt quotes Michelle Obama:
“That’s what women have to focus on: what makes them feel good about themselves and have fun with fashion.”
Will the Obama crap machine NEVER stop grinding?
Wasn’t the Inaugural bedspread with the undanceable train ENOUGH “fun” from Obama to last a lifetime?
The born-to-shop suggestion that women “have to” focus, just now, on “fun with fashion” shows how shallow it must have been, pulling down a half million a year in the non-profitocracy.
When I saw this topic, I went “phew”! whaaa?! Actually READING Obama’s let-’em-eat-cake simpering, though — making a stupid joke of slightly more than half the population, most of whom are wearing ten-year-old bathrobes, and wondering where their next whatever is coming from — makes it clear why it’s here.
Vogue. Right. Let’s HOPE that for however long this embarrassing reign lasts, Obama will just shut up about “what women have to focus on” and soak up the swag.

Michelle Robinson graduated Chicago public school, went on to graduate from Princeton and Harvard, fell in love with an up and coming lawyer/politician, became a mother, and currently the nation’s First Lady!!! Furthermore, the current state of our economy will not be weakened by Michelle Obama giving an interview and cover picture for a $6.99 magazine. Get a grip. “The “American standard” of beauty, traditionally, has not included Black women, Asian woman or Latinas. NatFrankie | Feb 11, 2009 12:16:05 PM ”
Not exactly true, sorry. You seem to forget that such great beauties like Josephine Baker (African American) and Rita Hayworth (Latina-Irish), Iman (Somalian) were/are celebrated beauties. Princess Kaiulani Cleghorn (Hawaiian, Scottish) was a celebrated beauty in her day way back in the 1800s. The so-called “American Standard” of beauty is not untainable for most American females, regardless of “race” or “color”.
‘It is important that women of color are celebrated in this country, as well as the traditional, “European” standard.- NatFrankie | Feb 11, 2009 12:16:05 PM”
It is even more important to note that “white is a color too”, and the continual clinging to this rather “racist and divisive” category of “people of color” only continues to serve as a narrow-minded skincolor categorization that indirectly slurs people who are or look White as being separate just because of their skincolor. I am seriously tired of this continued race and skincolor divisiveness that so many people cling too.
Oh, and by the way, your face is not “multicultural. A person’s facial features do not denote “culture”. It is “ethnicity” that may be discernable as to a person’s particular “looks”. In todays world, many people have transcended their particular racial, ethnic and cultural roots to become something else, therefore one does not really know what someone’s race, ethnicity, culture or heritage is just by looking at them and the “superficial” appearance. Most Americans are multiethnic and/or multiracial, and therefore one cannot look at people and determine what their “culture” is.
My ancestry is diverse racially, ethnically and culturally, but I see myself as an American and a human being, first and foremost, and NOT a race or color.

The so-called “American Standard” of beauty is not untainable for most American females, regardless of “race” or “color
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Here we go:
Josephine Baker had to leave the United States in order to work as an entertainer, due to the racism she faced here.
Rita Hayworth had to change her name and publicly deny her heritage due to racism.
Iman has to start her own line of cosmetics because she was unable to purchase makeup in colors and composition that were suitable to her skin color, as she has said in many inteviews.
I would venture to add the princess faced her fair share of issues in the 1800′s as a mixed-culture woman in the good old USA.
I don’t need a lecture on multi-ethnicity and beauty, as a middle-aged woman who lived through the civil rights era I have seen it all. As a historian, I have read just about all of it. As a BLACK woman in American, I have LIVED it. Although my ancestry (as is that of most Black Americans) is mixed, society first called me “colored”, then “Negro” then “Afro-American” until I decided to become BLACK! Oh, and I have been called the other “n-word” often enough here at home as well.
Many of us do not have the option of being “American” we have had no choice but to first accept, then celebrate, our own ethnic beauty. MIchelle Obama is a stirring example of that beauty!

I respect Michelle Obama as a wife and mother to her husband/children. I don’t think she’s “Beautiful”, and I frankly don’t like the way she speaks… nor do I like the way her husband speaks. BUT you have to give it to the First Lady that she has nice arms and it’s moving how supportive she is as a wife. However, “The First Lady the World has been Waiting for?”… that’s a little extreme and egotistical of us in The States to assume the world really cares who our 1st lady is. Seriously… the world really doesn’t evolve around the U.S. And assuming it does, how does a 1st lady affect it being on “Vogue” and wears fashionable clothing?

“Mrs. Obama has said that she has a desire to give her daughters and other young African American women the opportunity to see people who look like them on the cover of magazines. “… Frankly, this sounds a little racist to me. Weren’t Tyra Banks, Beyonce, Naomi Campbell (sp?) and MANY others on the covers before? As an Asian woman, why is it… that I don’t feel the need to have an Asian woman on a fashion cover magazine to make me feel better about myself, or for my daughter to feel better about myself. I think of women as women, and the oppositr of us are men… it’s weird how race all over the media nowadays?

Maybe African-Americans or Mexican-Americans or any other group would not use the XXXX-American if the African part or Japanese part had not been ignored or degraded or denied in some kind of way in our history. AA were not considered to be full human beings as far as the constitution and bill of rights were cocerned. Japanese Americans were put in camps during WWII not because they were American but because they were perceived to be more loyal to Japan and more loyal to their Japanese side than their American side. Even if they were born here.

I am happy to see something different for a change.
Although I think it is good for the Black population to see a Black First Lady. I think it is just as important for the rest of the population as well. We need to see that we have become a nation of diverse people. It is a way of re-defining ourselves as Americans.

==Did I say President Obama was responsible for the economic crisis? ==
He is now an accessory.
In the mid-90s, remember, Bill Clinton, Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd — all Democrats — rejected Republican calls to rein in and regulate the mortgage lending industry. They said that everybody should have the chance to own a house at low rates.
That opened the “subprime floodgates.”
However, as the new rates took hold, these homeowners couldn’t afford them and foreclosed. Thus, banks weren’t getting that money to lend to businesses for, say, employment. They had to lay off. Those laid off stopped buying. And so on to the point we’re at today, all cuz-a Clinton, Frank and Dodd.
REMEMBER: Republicans WANTED regulation of the mortgage lending industry. Those Democrats did not.

sngeorgia, I am so glad my First Lady is Real… no botox, no drug addict, no stick-pin, educated, classy, smart and unpretentious. Girl, I agree with you whole heartedly, I mean she the one that got him to stop smokin cigarettes. If she had been with him in his younger days maybe he wouldn’t have done cocaine and smoked weed. Way to go Michelle, we don’t need no more Marion Barry’s.

In 2005 the hospital raised Michelle’s salary from $120,000 to $317,000 – nearly
twice what her husband made as a Senator
Oh did we mention that her husband had just become a US Senator? He sure
had. Requested a $1 Million earmark for the UC Medical Center
But now that Mrs Obama has resigned, the hospital says her position will
remain unfilled. How can that be, if the work she did was vital enough to be
worth $317,000?

SHe can never hold a candle to any of our former FIRST LADY’S. I just can not accept her.

So Greg what have you done for the needy lately its easy to cast your opinions but I bet you don’t help anyone. They havent’ even been in office for a month and people can’t say anything nice. My mother always said if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all. I for one am proud to be an american and I voted for Obama. Let the world see that we back our president and that he is trying his very best if anyone can do better maybe they should run for president in 2012.

can’t any of you just be nice for a day….the president and first lady aren’t miracle workers….It’s going to take years to get out of this mess cheney and bush put us in….go help a neighbor or family member instead of playing the ignorant blame game…..it’s nice once in a while to escape with these articles …yes, there are more important things than the first ladies fashions but it is a bit refreshing….it’s not like this is all she is focused on….it was probably two hours out of her day…anyway it is helping the economy by boosting magazine sales and clothing sales at JCrew….

bdaman:
Thank you for your response. And yes, I have done my investigative journalism, and I think I would do my homework more thoroughly sir before you make claims about anyone. She is still licensed to practice law, and she hasn’t been disbarred. BDAman, are you Karl Rove?

Posted by: Gg51 | February 12, 2009, 4:40 pm 4:40 pm

Karl Rove doesn’t even have an undergraduate degree. He was born in Utah and claims residence in Texas. How can anyone teach in upper levels of learning without at least a master’s degree? Whoever is allowing Rove to teach in any accredited university is in question of their credibility and ability to be accredited. These universities are at risk of losing everything.

Voluntary inactive means just that a person withdraws from practice for various reasons like marriage, child care, go back to school, and many more legitimate reasons, but still able to practice law when resumes upon the laws of the state, once acknowledged and meets criteria to resume. If there aren’t any disciplinary actions, then a person can resume once criteria has been met to resume. So, do your homework more thoroughly next time.

We said that to you people in 2000. Where were you then?

The First Lady the World’s been waiting for? Please!! I think the media is gushing a bit too much! And we have reached the point of oversaturation. I read a little bit of the article and I would like to make some comments. With all due respect to Michelle Obama, it is not like she is going to reinvent the wheel at the White House. All previous first ladies have done wonderful work in their areas of interest. They have shown great dignity and grace at alltimes. And the White House has always been inclusive. The first ladies and their families have welcomed heads of states, dignataries and americans. The White House has always opened its doors to all americans. Let’s stopped with this “inclusive for the first time” nonsense about the White House. And as far as Michelle Obama’s comment that she wants black americans to see people like them on the cover of magazines…where has she been all these years? What about Oprah, Queen Latifah, Beyonce, Tyra Banks, Iman? All these ladies have graced the cover of magazines. And let’s not forget the men. Tiger Woods, Will Smith, Eddie Murphy. Please!!! Perhaps, if we stop with the hyphens….and call ourselves Americans..we would not have to keep track of how many times we make it to the cover of magazines.

michele obama has no law practice accomplishments to speak of. Her thesis was pathetic….anyone with a grievance can write it. Not proud of the country until she gets her selfish ways.
Give us a break vogue, the rest of the country is not as feebled minded as the liberals democrat.

The American people as a majority are tired of this nonsense that I am reading here and want us to move forward as communities and country This country is not being destroyed without by terrorism or anything else, it is being destroyed from within by the ugly divisiveness. Cease and find common ground with your neighbor, your colleague, your family member who believes differently than you. Mrs. Obama will be beautiful on the cover of Vogue – Congratulations to her. Her triumph takes nothing from me or you.

You go, girlfriend! It’s good to see another stylish lady, and a First Lady at that, gracing the cover of VOGUE. God bless you, Mrs. Obama.

Michelle Obama on the cover of VOGUE? Is this a joke? The woman has zero sense of fashion.

Palin looked way better on her Vogue cover.

She loves to buy clothes, makes her feel good. She has the money to do so. She is not reaching out to the average American. She may very well be encouraging more poor choices as others may agree with her that buying clothes gives them joy, too, but not be able to pay the bills later. Not everyone gets a fairytale ending like she got.

michele on the cover…….I thought the dems banned torturing people….or maybe it just only apply to terrorist.

Posted by: Reality2009 | February 17, 2009, 9:37 pm 9:37 pm

Michelle is beautiful, warm, gracious and intelligent. I thinkl she is a tremendous asset in the White House. I liked Laura Bush too, for differing reasons; but I think Mrs. Obama can connect in a unique way to the young. They could do a whole lot worse than to follow her example.

I’m 58 years old and I still can’t believe the kind of hatred and jealousy that I have just read toward Mrs. Obama.
I like her.

Posted by: Eloise | February 20, 2009, 6:08 pm 6:08 pm

As a Canadian, and an observer — I have to say a lot of Americans sound like they’re bitter, and jealous – and maybe have a headache. Perhaps an enema would help them.
I’m always surprised at how narrowminded (some) Americans can be, when something wonderful happens in their own country. The worst and nastiest critics of the Obamas are within the US; and these people are incredibly divisive. Yet they’ll talk about how “liberated” and “free” they are.
Cheer the hell up for crying out loud. You have to start being happy for other people, start talking happy before you’re ever going to become happy yourselves.
Michelle Obama is stunning – she’s fit, she’s TRYING to make women enjoy their lives . . . she is well able to wear a sleeveless dress because her arms are muscled and smooth. She has a beautiful, strong face – and she is just a beautiful person.
Bets any of the critics on this page wouldn’t want their photograph displayed on Vogue or anywhere else.
Cheers – from Canada.

I cant believe liberal elite and medias are trying to make us swallow that this woman is NOT ugly and even material for FASHION !

Posted by: disgustedVogueReader | March 5, 2009, 4:16 pm 4:16 pm

If our attitude in this country does not change, people are going to end up in hell. I have never heard so much hatred in my life. God gave this world to all people, not just a handful. Hate is eating this country alive. We can’t even see what’s happening in front of us to make the changes to come together.
I voted for bush, I didn’t agree with all his decision, nor will I agree with all of our new president. I’m willing to give him a chance. People are silly If they think they’re the only smart person in the world. But I forget that’s the only way some people feel good is by putting other people down. I feel sorry for them If they don’t change. They’re probably they first one going thru the church doors on worship Day Shame on You.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
