Obama Rallies for the Steelers

From Sunlen Miller

President Obama is rooting on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl today.

Check out this video of then-Senator Obama on March 29th of 2008 in Steelers country.

"It’s my own terrible towel," Obama joked as he waved a blue towel in the air given to him by former Steelers Jerome Bettis (aka The Bus) and Franco Harris.

Bettis and Harris accompanied Obama on a bus tour throughout Pennsylvania that day.

Obama’s relationship with the Steelers goes all the way to the top as well: owner and chairman Dan Rooney endorsed Obama’s candidacy in April.

hmm Well mr president I am taking a page from your campaign and rooting for change. I want the team who has never been there before to win, instead of the team that’s been there 7 times. GO Arizona.

Last time I checked, that was a matter for the Governor of Kentucky.
Really, are you saying that states should usurp the the powers of states. haha. I thought you wouldn’t

Posted by: Omentum | February 1, 2009, 2:43 pm 2:43 pm

wuups … i meant to say do you want the federal gov’t to usurp the power of states.

Posted by: Omentum | February 1, 2009, 2:44 pm 2:44 pm

Yeah, why isn’t Obama commenting on the KY. people freezing their butt’s off? Bush’s head would have been on a stick by now by NOT doing something!
Is Obama too busy cranking up the heat in the White House to care?

Posted by: Gabrielle | February 1, 2009, 2:46 pm 2:46 pm

The article is about the Super Bowl. I’m sure President Obama is quite aware of what is going on in Kentucky. “Concerned in OH”…. Are the children in Kentucky playing in the a can multitask. So rest asured that he can do both, watch the Super Bowl and monitor the situation in Kentucky at the same time. When Kentucky needs the services of the federal government I’m sure it will be provided.
BTW, The Steelers will win. I don’t care if we have 5 Super Bowl rings and the Cardinals have never been to the super bowl. The Steelers worked hard for all those rings. McCain lost in Nov. and his homestate team will lose today. It’s a good day for Northern, Democratic, Steeler fans all over. I currently live in Texas just north of Dallas and I am so proud to be a Northern, Democratic, Steeler fan. Waves terrible towell!!!!!!!!

Oops, just noticed errors in my post.
Was supposed to say, Are the children in Kentucky playing in the Super Bowl? President Obama can multitask.
Don’t pick on me please:)

butterfly, Gabrielle, CiH:
Kentucky’s governor is praising the Obama
administration’s prompt reaction to the fierce wintry weather that slammed his
state.
“They really hit the ground running,” said Steve Beshear, interviewed by
CNN. “They’re working very hard to get all the equipment and supplies here that
we need.”
Crews have been working to restore power and water service to hundreds of
thousands of people. Beshear said that while he realizes “nothing moves fast
enough,” he said the federal assistance “has been a great help to us so far.”
Beshear, a Democrat, explained that when the first wave of bad weather
came through on Tuesday and Wednesday morning, officials realized that they
needed additional help.
“I called the White House directly at that time. I had my other folks
talking to FEMA, but I went straight to the top because we needed fast help,”
he said.
He said he spoke to the director of intergovernment relations and said
she walked Kentucky’s paperwork through. He said President Obama called him and
told him he was announcing an emergency declaration for the state.
“I can’t tell you how appreciative we were,” the governor said. “He not
only expressed his concern, but he obviously had the Kentuckians in his
thoughts and prayers, and he communicated that to us.”

Thanks for the info Gabrielle. I probably should have found that info myself before posting. This is going to be a good year.

@Paige; Why in hell doesn’t those states look after their own??? Getting rediculus in this country that the Fed Government has to do everything for everyone!
Bigger and BIGGER our Federal Government gets.
It is way past time for a Revolution people.

[the censorship on these boards is getting annoying]
Jake,
On account of the coverage you gave George Obama upon his possession charges, I think its important that you cover the news of Michael Phelps and his consumption (not just mere possession). This would serve as a great point of comparison between what happens in America and what happens in the rest of the world since it seems to suffice for Phelps to issue a statement from the comfort of wherever he is currently residing to make all things right. I would then very much like to read the comments that follow, esp from those who had an opinion about George Obama’s arrest. I think those two stories are a perfect demonstration of the MORAL double standards that Americans have come to practice and a nice wake up call. Take the log out of your eyes first…that’s a man who REPRESENTED you at the world stage. And your children are probably out there doing the same thing.

Posted by: Question | February 1, 2009, 4:12 pm 4:12 pm

Concerned in OH, first, thanks for pointing out my mistake, NOT. You must feel so much better now. What in the H*ll are you taking about? Secret renditions(do you even know what that word means?), Obamas two illegal wars? You do know he just became President a less than two weeks ago, you do know he did not start these wars(wouldn’t even call them wars). War criminal, ha, ha, ha. You need to get a life. I am not afraid of Obama. You do know this is the U.S.A. right? What are you doing in Ohio, you must be sooo emberassed that your state went for Obama. I know how you feel. I live in Taxas and it sucks, maybe you should move here. You would feel right at home. Maybe if you weren’t so paranoid that the USA is not what you thought it was, you would realize that it is ok to relax, understand that everyone is not out to get you, and if other people actually do well it doesn’t take anything away from you. Must be tough to be scared all the time.

More football talk?
Obama dozed, people froze.
Three days after issuing state of emergency in Kentucky… Obama, FEMA and the MSM …MIA.

Posted by: Concerned in IL | February 1, 2009, 4:33 pm 4:33 pm

I live in Kentucky and have been sawing trees for the past two days to help clear our neighborhood. The electricity came on yesterday thanks to the hard work of KU crews. We have had no FEMA help. We are taking care of ourselves. Most of us in Kentucky could really give a rat’s a$$ who Obama is rooting for. We have more important things to worry about right now.

Posted by: Hondo | February 1, 2009, 4:59 pm 4:59 pm

“Isn’t it interesting that now that we have a Democrat as president that all of a sudden, disaster relief is a state and local matter and the federal government should stand aside and allow them to do their jobs?”
Why no outrage at the lack of FEMA response? Why isn’t the media and Sean Penn concerned about the suffering?
Football. That’s what President Obama is thinking about today rather than fellow Americans who are cold, hungry and dying.

Posted by: Concerned, too | February 1, 2009, 5:03 pm 5:03 pm

Obamacrat for Palin,,,,, Ha ha ha. You do know that there is no way anyone switches from Obama to Palin. Nice try, but you never were for Obama and I can tell, because anyone who voted for Obama would not talk like you do and surely would never jump all the way to Palin. Oh you think it’s just fun to bring her name up to see what response you will get. BTW, she is so far from a respectable woman of merit and intelligence that American woman saw right through the attempt by the GOP to put her on the ticket and think us woman would just vote for her because she is the same gender as us. See we want an intelligent woman for President , one who doesn’t have to wink and be sexually suductive, or put herself above her children, or be a loudmouth rude attack dog. And should she attempt to walk on the national satge of politics again, I will wage a one woman compaign against her and the you will all know what a MAMA bear is really like, my daughter will never have that woman as VP of this country held up as an example to young girls as someone to strive to be like. She is everything I teach my daughter not to be. That is why we don’t like her.

Posted by: ajax | February 1, 2009, 5:14 pm 5:14 pm

Hondo, I apologize for our governments lack of help. Your self reliance is commendable but help should be coming. That’s what our taxes should pay for, not government bailouts of private industry.
Interestingly enough, during Barack Obama’s three press conferences per day, he didn’t have the time to mention what FEMA was doing to help the people of Kentucky. In fact, he apparently didn’t care that the ice storm had even taken place.

AIMEE, why are you yelling at me? What’s your problem, do you think the words yankee(I was born in PA because that is where my parents lived when I was born) and democrat(I believe that we are all valuable even if we are poor, black, hispanic, disabled, not as educated as some, do not join the military, etc.) are bad words. Oh, Obama is not my messiah either, Jesus is. Do you not know that? It happened a couple of thousand years ago, long before Obama was born. President Obama is just a man, I don’t worship him, I don’t expect him to fix my problems. I take care of myself and my daughter just fine as a single mom working two jobs, never been on welfare, never paid my bills late, never asked for anything from anyone. What is your problem?

Posted by: butterfly | February 1, 2009, 6:40 pm 6:40 pm

Concerned in OH, you like list huh, Do you want me to start one. One for Bush, one for McCain, onle for Palin. Could be Obama is trying to do the best he can and it is better that any of the above mentioned have done or would have done. Has his decisions adversly affected you, or this country yet? Get back to me when it does.

Posted by: butterfly | February 1, 2009, 6:56 pm 6:56 pm

Blah, blah, blah. Bush was until 2 weeks ago. Your idea of what constitues failure is warped. You really think Onama has failed in more way in 2 weeks than Bush in 8 years. What is failure to you. Again. what has Obama done that has affected you or this country in an adverse way. Any of Bush’s decisions affect other’s? BTW, one of those lobbyists is so knowledgable of our high tech weapons systems that his experience and knowledge and how it can help us in Afghanistan outways the fact that he was a lobbyist. Do you want President Obama to adjust his thinking now that he is in office and do what is best for America or do you want him to stick so hard to what he said before that he would risk America just to make you happy.

Posted by: butterfly | February 1, 2009, 7:44 pm 7:44 pm

I don’t like politicians saying one thing during a campaign and doing another in office either. To adjust to the realities of the job once in that job is better than not adjusting. What in the stimulas package is pork and doesn’t create jobs or help the economy in the long run. Just saying pork doesn’t mean a thing. How has Iran gotten over on us politically? Children are not freezing in Kentucky, read comment by Paige. Don’t like tax cheats either, but maybe they can contribute anyway, if they don’t I want them out too. Lobbyists have a weaath of information about certain industries and as long as specific companies do not get priority or benefits from legislation then maybe it will be ok. The Raytheon guy will be helpful with the un-manned spy plane, terrain floowing radar(particularly helpful in afghanistan), night vision radar and many other high tech pieces of equipment already in use in our military jets. Just complaining in general terms without looking into the whole story is not a good idea. You have the internet, get informed. Perhaps some of the other lobbyist that were extended exemptions have a wealth of information too.

Posted by: butterfly | February 1, 2009, 8:24 pm 8:24 pm

Did he attack Rush, D*amn I missed that. I think he said somthing about not listening to Rush or not getting information from Rush. I don’t think I heard a personal attack. And Obama does not have media henchmen, he does have media who knows that Rush is an idiot, tries to create controversy without knowing all the facts or leaving information out. Rush stirs fear and hate and divisiveness every time he opens his mouth. Obama was just speaking the truth about Rush. If Rush is going to tell lies about Obama I don’t care if he calls him out or not. This country has put up wiht loudmouth arrogant people like Rush for way too long. Why didn’t you say Rush Limbaugh instead of a “private citizen”. Did you not think we all know who it was.

Posted by: butterfly | February 1, 2009, 8:35 pm 8:35 pm

While Obama watches the Super Bowl from the warmth of the White House, people in Kentucky are freezing.
Mr. Obama’s senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss says, “He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.”

Posted by: NotAGame | February 1, 2009, 8:35 pm 8:35 pm

Good grief. I feel for the people in Kentucky, and I have my heat on. Can you only care if you suffer the same way? Am I unfeeling when I am sad because someone died, because I’m not dead?
Also, while I am sad about the situation in Kentucky, and the people who have died in Iraq and around the world, and the people who are hungry in Africa and in parts of the city I live in, and even though I contribute to charities and donate my time to help people — I still go home to heat, and a roof over my head, and I still eat full meals and fill my belly. And, I have the Super Bowl on/
Does that make me a bad person?
Some people are really ridiculous.

I bet Begala slandered him before Obama was President, he probably just doesn’t like Rush either. Shall I look up who Rush slanders? @Skip,
How much money did Bill Clinton Bring in last year from Speeches in Foreign Countries? How much money did Al Gore make last year with his Speeches on Global warming? How much money did most of Liberal Hollywood make last year?
How much Money did Nancy Palosi make last year? Barney Frank?
ARE YOU THAT STUPID to think ALL Company Executives are Republican? How much Money did Bruce make doing the SuperBowl Halftime tonight? My wife went to see “The Boss” back last summer and her ticket cost 75 bucks and that wasn’t even a front ROW seat. Ah and he is a BIG Democrat.. I don’t see Obama giving him hell about the “PROFIT” he is making.

@butterfly,
I worked in 2 Union Shops in my lifetime.
The UNION was created for a very good purpose that has gotten turned into some very bad things. Actually, my Grandfather was head of a Union Shop many many years ago. I think he would be very sad at the way it has turned out.
No, I have no problem with Union Workers, it is mainly with the UNION Leaders.

Posted by: ajax | February 1, 2009, 10:57 pm 10:57 pm

To add…. Union Leaders are like politicians, they have their own Agenda they put first. And, the sad thing is, that agenda is keeping power/being re-elected.

One of the last Companies I did contract work for employees went on strike and would not make a deal with the Company, although they were going bankrupt and the Company tried to tell them. The company did go bankrupt and all 175 people working there permanently lost their jobs. Most, still do not have jobs. Now, most of those people are very angry with their Union Leaders because they lied to them about how bad the Company was really doing.

I live in Kentucky, not everybody lost their electricity here and some that did said it is coming on faster than it did when we had the hurricane winds blew through here and many lost their electric then too…and I don’t think this compares in anyway to Katrina. Where people completely lost their homes…People here are bedding up with friends and relatives and there are shelters too til they can go back home.
Why should the people begrudge the President for having heat anymore than they should begrudge me for not losing mine… Governor Beshear has been doing a fine job of taking care of things here…
So these people writing these comments obviously have electricity and are using the fact that some in Ky don’t to further their menial attacks against the President…
That just sounds like more Republican rhetoric to me.
You guys gripe about not wanting big government and then you complain that he isn’t doing enough…
But, hey the Steelers won!!!
It was kinda symbolic, even the way they won…Go Barack! Mr. President…
