Today’s Q for O’s WH — 2/3/09
TAPPER: Robert, two questions: One, on the Daschle issue, you talk about an era of responsibility; we talked about that yesterday. Is there anybody at the White House taking responsibility for what has been a very messy confirmation process for Richardson, Geithner, Senator Daschle and Nancy Killefer?
GIBBS: Well, we all take responsibility, and the president takes responsibility.
TAPPER: I’m sorry, and then follow-up question — not follow-up question — a new question, which is: There are a lot of military experts who think that the recent incursions into Pakistan constitute a new a separate war that the president should address the nation on, and not just an aspect, a side war in Afghanistan. Does the president view the new CIA attacks in Pakistan as a — as a new — as a new war?
GIBBS: I haven’t seen those reports, and I’m — I’m not going to comment from here on — on intelligence matters. But I have not seen the reports that you refer to.

CPAC: Romney Struggles to Convince Voters
Obama Backs Off Birth Control Battle?
Good luck with that, Jake.
Obama’s gang really believes everyone is a stupid and compliant as they were in Chicago.

We’ll be lucky if the “Obama” organization doesn’t loose drones on pesky elements and/or areas in THIS country, then claim “terrorism”.
Gibbs is sort of like Bush’s press guy who came before Snow — in no time, Gibbs will be under the bus and writing a book. They ALL write books … that how the corporados threw “Obama” a bunch of bucks.
“Responsibility”?! Bwa hahahaha. Corporate fraud, right the way down. And is The Puppet having some trouble with His er skin? Usually a sign of emotional distress or over-indulgence, no?

Home run on the first question (not quite sure what you were angling for there – them passing the buck and blaming Congress or something?). Definite bunt on the second, but if you think there is fire under that smoke why isn’t it a feature article at ABC? Or why wasn’t it in September, when that ‘separate war’ heated up?

Jake
Since Obama “absolutely” stood by Daschle could you please ask Obama exactly what it would take to disqualify someone for a Cabinet post?
Would it take murder?

drjohn :”could you please ask Obama exactly what it would take to disqualify someone for a Cabinet post?”
Yes, because that gets right at the root of some of the most pressing issues facing the country. Lets toss a softball question at him to launch into a discussion about competence, skill, ability to help the country and actually do the job blah blah blah being more important than ideological purity and how good their taxes are.
It’s no wonder the Republicans are imploding if that sort of question passes as ‘critical thought.’

There weren’t any softball questions for Gibbs.
The reporters ate him up and spit him out.
Let’s hope the MSM treats BO the same way whenever he decides to answer questions.

Fox just ran the first question and Gibbs answer. No credit for the question though
Good Questions

jhw,
We agree on this one. If JTP thinks there is astory there, then break it!

This press sec. is seriously in over his head. Like others have stated, he will take the shots for a while, then head for the word processor!

I inadvertently underpaid my taxes one year and got slammed with a penalty. Daschle paid taxes and interest but not a penny in penalties.
Daschle is a tax cheat. A fraud. That might signal special competence to you but it does nothing of the kind to me.
Daschle was going to be appointed to regulate the very industry for which he lobbied and from which he became quite wealthy. Once again, this is a special talent?
I think not.

Obama really needs to address the American public directly and explain why he is getting off to such a bad start and what he is going to do to improve this. When will he do this?
Posted by: Kelly | February 3, 2009, 3:54 pm 3:54 pm
Jake, you allowed Gibbs to non-answer on both of your questios. Get tough and aggressive, demand real answers. Or won’t ABC allow you to?
The media is still promoting Obama 24/7.
Hillary 2012.

“Let’s hope the MSM treats BO the same way whenever he decides to answer questions.”
If He ever DOES answer questions.
Yes: LET’S hope the press has now recovered from its collective infatuation with The Puppet’s corporate negritude, that the tingle in what’s-his-name’s thigh has gone away, and that the msm, despite its class position and political perks, can REMEMBER they’re supposedly there as a “free”, not “corporate”, press.
In other words, they’re supposed to have something to do with the PEOPLE, and with the TRUTH.
If the “Obama” organization keeps on with this crap in Afghanistan and Pakistan, a whole lot MORE (mostly the UN-rich) service people are going to die, along with a bunch of blameless Afghanis and Pakistanis … and all that military machinery costs LOTS of money, and enriches ALL the wrong people, which hurts MOST Americans.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just get Obama’s impeachment over? In the long run it would save us all the drama ahead.

“Jake, you allowed Gibbs to non-answer on both of your questios. Get tough and aggressive, demand real answers. Or won’t ABC allow you to?”
It’s the darnedest thing: if the press throws shoes, they put em in prison and beat ‘em up …

“Wouldn’t it be easier to just get Obama’s impeachment over?”
What?! Those clothes-horses in the Congress, who were elbowing each other aside for air-time to proclaim Daschle’s non-existent “integrity”?
The Puppet, not having much actual AMERICAN experience, is endangering all kinds of things that MRS. Obama’s MOTHER may have to explain to Him. It’d be best if He — AND credit-card weasel Biden — would just step down for health reasons, or “unity”, or whatever.

Clearly lack of experience and poor judgment, but wait, thats what we said about Obama before the idiots of America elected their first affirmative action president. Corruption just surrounds him where ever he goes and America will pay the price for their ignorance.

This Administration is in so far over its head, it’s ridiculous! This is exactly what we on the right feared, and it’s coming to fruition! The Obama administration better grow up real fast …. for all our sakes!!!

Kelly: “Obama really needs to address the American public directly and explain why he is getting off to such a bad start and what he is going to do to improve this. When will he do this?”
Seeing as how over 60% of people think he’s doing a good job, I wouldn’t hold your breathe on this. Judging him by what he’s actually gotten done, he has nothing to apologize for to the folks who elected him (and by his popularity, the country).

I’m a little confused about the wording in the question about CIA attacks in Pakistan and the implication of a new war. I’m aware of only one drone attack, which occurred 2 or 3 days after Obama’s inauguration, happening under his watch. The escalation in August, numbering 35 since then, and previous attacks occurred under the Bush administration. A better question would have been if the Bush policy of escalating drone attacks in Pakistan will continue with Obama.

I NEVER thought I would see myself write this but: THANK GOD FOR HILLARY CLINTON AND JOE BIDEN, EXPERIENCE MATTERS EVEN IF IT IS EXPERIENCE YOU DID NOT VOTE FOR….
Posted by: Parallax View | February 3, 2009, 6:04 pm 6:04 pm
Jake, your question seems to be fundamentally flawed. You seem to be questioning the basic process of confirmation. The process was not set up for pageantry so that appointees can glide their way through it cleanly. There is a confirmation process precisely to make room for ‘messy’ inquiries, investigations and deliberations. Hence, the word ‘confirmations’
Posted by: Question | February 3, 2009, 6:05 pm 6:05 pm
SO my point was that why are you asking them to take responsibility for a process that is operating precisely in the manner that it was designed for?
Posted by: Question | February 3, 2009, 6:06 pm 6:06 pm
In the report link, Seth Jones from the Rand Corporation claims that most of he drone attacks are done in conjunction with the Pakistani government, which further negates the question about war with Pakistan. Sorry, but weren’t some aspersions cast with the question?

“I’m not going to comment from here on — on intelligence matters.”
No Mr. Gibbs, based on your performances the first two weeks on the job, it would appear you are not very well equipped to comment in a matter that reflects intelligence.
It was much easier on the campaign trail, wasn’t it?

Very big of Present Obama to take responsibility. He stood by Daschle even when it was clear the guy’s a tax cheat. He obviously thought he’d get him through anyway. BHO might also be underestimating the fear many of these Dems have that they could get voted out in ’10 if they keep messing around and not producing the results they’ve been promising.

Jake, Since last August, 38 suspected U.S. missile strikes have killed at least 132 people in Pakistan.
Posted by: Flash Override | February 3, 2009, 8:27 pm 8:27 pm
The “new CIA attacks” in Pakistan were put into motion by Bush in July 2008. That’s when, according to the Guardian, he signed an executive order allowing for military incursions into Pakistan without informing the government or their consent. The standards for the attacks were also diminished to a 50% probability of a target being terrorist related, or a maybe, rather than the previous near certainty of 90%. So the drone attacks were accelerated dramatically between the lowered standards and unilateral provision. The alarms of a war developing were sounded after a Sept. 08 military ground incursion into Pakistan.

Forensic accountants and independent auditors smiled and nodded in relief that the excellent vetting process revealed non payment of federal income tax. Then we wrung our hands in anguish that the “good old boys club” confirmed Geithner. Who should have been honorable like Dashle et al and withdrew his nomination.
Very little “fathoming” of the unintended consequences of a looming “tax revolt” reporting at present by our main stream media.
