As an aside, Obama’s Treasury Secretary is recommending that motorists be taxed by the number of miles they drive. A federally mandated GPS would be put in each car.
#1. There is already a tax for this. It’s called the federal gasoline tax. We pay a tax on gas and the more we drive, the more gas we buy and thus the more tax we pay. Apparently the geniuses in DC have forgotten that little tidbit.
#2. Most people have forgotten, but the Supreme Court said in the case Roe v Wade that a woman’s right to privacy was paramount and the reason for giving women the right to choose an abortion.
Now, if women have a right to privacy in order to kill the unborn, surely motorists have a right to privacy from the feds knowing where and how much we’re driving. Perhaps that’s entirely too sensible for the rocket scientists who now run our country.

Love the Yoda speak, although the news shared isn’t news, it’s what’s expected.
Ahh, those Sesame Street Days…

Biden making mistakes is a given.
“Shovel ready” and “Chicago” are an excellent match.

Ah but here is the dilemma. As more fuel efficient cars are purchased and operated, people buy less fuel and government revenue goes down. This is their way to make up for it.
I wish government spent as much time finding ways to save money as they did finding ways to take it from us.
Its really a funny message from this administration.
Go Green! Meanwhile we’ll find new ways to tax it!

Is the government website tracking the recovery blocking search engines?

“As more fuel efficient cars are purchased and operated, people buy less fuel and government revenue goes down.”
In other words, any savings to taxpayers because of technology and innovation, must result in higher taxes to the government. Like a weed, the government keeps growing.

gps in every car, well they can see excatly were you go, it costs money to put the gps in the car who pays you do, it takes people to over see this, who pays you do, probably in a monthly fee as well as the per mile charge, just another money grab, and who has stock in the gps that you have to buy,

Sigmonde – you nailed it exactly.

Oh, pink – very good question.
Just which company owns the primary GPS factories and who is Obama trying to bribe with this stunt?

Posted by: Peach | February 20, 2009, 11:13 am 11:13 am

and one more thing, they will still raise taxes on gas, if they say won’t they are full of it

To the lefties out there…
You talked big talk about the Patriot act, privacy issues and such.
Do you support a GPS receiver AND TRANSMITTER, in your car, controlled and mandated by the government?
This is just amazing the blind following this guy has.

It’s understandable why there was no applause from the mayors when Obama said there would be a watch over of wasteful spending. They probably don’t want the examination any more than financial corporations on Wall Street want their toxic assets looked into, which is part of the Geithner bailout plan. As the old Beatles’ song goes: Here comes the sun, du du du du du ……….

Posted by: kat the real one | February 20, 2009, 11:22 am 11:22 am

I guess the President did actually appoint the Secretary of the Treasury to be his basketball buddy. The only tax cheater that got a position in Obama’s Cabinet now tells the public what kinds of taxes they should be paying. For goodness sake, this man should be giving his resignation to
the President.
P.S. Mr. Geithner when you can’t pay your own income taxes for years, you shouldn’t be able to tell the American public what kind of taxes they should be paying.

“no applause from the mayors when Obama said there would be a watch over of wasteful spending.”
Maybe because it is a double standard? Wasteful spending and government are synonymous. A wasteful bloated federal government is going to look down upon city mayors for wasteful bloated spending… that’s rich.

Exactly. Just like Obama told us last year that: “We can no longer drive our SUVs, eat as much as we want and heat our homes as 72 degrees. That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen.”
Then the NYT quoted David Axelrod (Obama’s senior advisor) as saying Obama likes the White House to be warm and keeps it warm enough to grow orchids. That’s greenhouse levels for those who don’t know about orchids.

I am sick of the nit picking that we as American’s do. Let’s give the President a chance instead of tearing him down with words. It seem like we forgot he’s only been in the White House for what one month! give me a break, We all need to lead some support, remember he did not cause this crisis Bush did!, lET President Obamah be your President too!

stephanie obama says I didn’t cause this crisis, cry me a bloody river, its not my fault not my fault, he knew what he was getting into,if he didn’t he is a bigger dip than what we thought, why don’t you try to lead instead, rolling around on the floor chucking a tantrum

If he plans on putting GPS tracking in my car, he’ll get the wrong in of support from me.

Exactly. The libs were in full meltdown mode because the government could see what library books were being taken out at the library, for example.
Now they don’t seem to mind that their every movement will be tracked and taxed.

You’re persevering in the same argument about Axelrod complaining about the warmth of the oval office. What’s uncomfortably warm for one person isn’t for the other, and you can’t assume the Fahrenheit temperature on the basis of Axelrod’s complaint and descritpion. I can have a low tolerance for heat in a room myself, simply because I don’t like too much variation between the outdoor and indoor temps. But anyway, there’s no logic between how warm Obama may or may not keep his wing of the WH with municipal and Wall Street accountability. I wouldn’t even say you’re grasping at straws with that one.

Posted by: kat the real one | February 20, 2009, 12:10 pm 12:10 pm

kat -
The NYT piece was accompanied by a picture. All the men had their jackets off. If Obama is cold, he should put on a jacket before turning up the heat. That’s what he tells us to do.
And everyone quoted in that NYT piece talked about how the temperature was set near 80 degrees.
Now, I don’t care who you are or where you are – that’s hot inside a house.
And I wouldn’t have a problem with it whatsoever provided Obama had not told us we couldn’t heat our homes at 72 degrees.
Now, I pay my own bills. You and other taxpayers don’t pay my heating bill. But we taxpayers pay to heat the White House.
Most of us have gotten quite a chuckle out of the hypocrisy and the google hits on this matter are hilarious.

When Hillary Clinton lost the administration, the DOW was at 12,604.
Today it’s at 7,300.
So much for the hope. And the change was apparently that we’ll all have less of it.

That has as likely to happen as a Monorail going from Las Vegas to LA with the stimulus funds. Dream on.

Correction: THAT’S as likely to happen as a Monorail going from Las Vegas to LA with the stimulus funds. Dream on.
Though if you’re an underworked attorney, the alleged GPS in everyone’s car would be a quick jump on the gravy train for the millions of dollars the government would spend on defending the proposal. It would be a perfectly 100% winnable case for the plaintiffs vs the United States of America.
On a more serious note, don’t you realize we have a superb legal system in this country that would never allow it? Thinking a little bit is patriotic.

Oh, so you’re saying that the Transportation Secretary is a dreamer and working on unworkable plans?
Well, we shouldn’t be surprised. The entire cabinet is filled with tax cheats and people in way over their heads. Including their boss.

No I’m saying a high speed train is not the same as a MONORAIL, which you keep insisting is going to built from Vegas to LA, over a good 500 miles across desert and mountain terrain. Do you not know the difference between a high speed train and a monorail?
