Card-Check: No Vote Before Summer

Congressional supporters introduced the Employee Free Choice Act, the so-called "card-check" legislation, with more than enough co-sponsors — 223 –  to pass the House.  But that won’t happen anytime soon. Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill’s observation Sunday on "This Week" that "card-check" can’t clear the 60-vote hurdle was reinforced today by wavering Democrats — and at least one Republican — who aren’t quite ready to face the wrath and spending of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.    Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., told reporters today that he doesn’t support the current form of the bill introduced by Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Ia., today …meaning more GOP votes for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., to find. Even Al Franken’s expected entry to the Senate won’t make the difference. So Reid has decided not to schedule a floor vote before the summer, likely July, according to a leadership source, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., won’t schedule a vote until she sees how "card-check" fares on the Senate floor. Don’t expect any serious talk of a compromise before then either, even though President Barack Obama suggested that was something he’d like to see in a Washington Post exchange that didn’t get enough attention back in January. — George Stephanopoulos

Even the ambitious Obama doesn’t want to tangle with this nuclear-level fight. It’ll be a blockbuster…

Does this mean they will only be able to hire Legal Americans & Legal immigrants for jobs? BTW if they would enforce Immigration Laws & hire people to protect our borders, we would find alot less illegal aliens trying to break our laws as they would see we were serious. Maybe the greedy CEO’s & other Bankers,& Wallstreet Lawbreakers would get the hint too, straighten up & wouldn’t That Be A Boost To The Economy???!!!! Think About It!

So, if we get rid of all the illegal aliens, who will clean hotel rooms? Who will give us our cholesterol fix at fast-food emporiums? Well, I need to stop eating that crap and I can make my own bed. Off you go!

Finally a copy of the President’s original birth certificate is made available to the public! Well, no, actually not. The President continues to send lawyers into court to block the release of this document. Why could that be? It is for sure it will be released someday. Perhaps it will be 100 years from now. What will the historians of that time conclude? Will they wonder, as I do, why he didn’t release it in the sooner? Or will they conclude that he was never qualified to stand for election in the first place? Maybe it will be released in the near term. Will the American people supinely accept it with an “Oh well, he was elected, nothing we can do about it now.” Or, hopefully, will the document finally remove any doubt in all reasonable minds?

Although the article doesn’t make it clear, “Card Check” is about doing away with the secret ballot in labor organizing.

Thank God. The last thing we need is more union control. I live in Chicago and trust me Unions don’t work!

Dear Mr. Stephanopoulos:
On your Sunday, March 7 news program, Sen. McCaskill stated, in reference to the Employee Free Choice Act, “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.” She mentioned that current law does not permit employees to vote by secret ballot when getting rid of a union, and therefore, employees should not have to vote to put a union into a company. She is mistaken. Current law in fact does permit employees to vote by secret ballot when getting rid of a union; this has been the law for many years. Unfortunately, and to the detriment of your audience, no one on the panel — even the gentleman who was against EFCA — “called her out” on this. As a supporter of EFCA, Sen. McCaskill should get her facts straight. She cited this as the main reason she supports EFCA. Terribly misleading, and downright incorrect.

Terry, I’m wondering why this isn’t in the news, but you seem to be up on it, so I hope you will let us know when the issue of President Obama’s birth is resolved once and for all to your satisfaction.
Bennett Alsher, I saw the same show and I agree. Sen McKaskill was dead wrong about that. But I support the EFCA. 70% of workers would join a Union today if they could just sign a card

More union control is the fastest way to chase jobs out of Chicago and the rest of our country. It has gotten completely out of control and made doing business in the city and now suburbs a terrible experience.
It is just embarrassing.
