Yes, you were on Charlie Rose and repeated the shopworn “and when Limbaugh said he wants President Obama to fail”. . . etc. I’m sure you know full well that wasn’t what he said in full, and a personal failure wasn’t what he meant. He has repeated his full statement about a thousand times now, and pundits and politicians on the left continue endlessly to misrepresent Limbaugh’s message. I was shocked. I thought you were better than that.

Ah, jeez: had this been mentioned YESTERDAY … those without high-speed connections might have watched it on television.

I love Charlie Rose…I’ll have to find that interview. Jake, I think you are doing a great job also.

Good piece on twitter on the Daily show last night. Does anyone really want congressmen twittering live during important votes or speeches. If they are texting they arent really paying attention to what is being said while typing out the message.

I didn’t want to watch it much further past Jake’s statement of Rush Limbaugh being an “incredibly gifted broadcaster.” Many Americans don’t share his obvious admiration.

I am an Independent and former democrat who can say with conviction that Rush in context makes more sense than anyone I have heard recently!
And I have never listened to him before.
In comparison Obama has no moral center or code of ethics. He is a postmodern relativist who believes that concepts such as right and wrong, goodness and badness, or truth and falsehood are not absolute but change from culture to culture and situation to situation.
So kill babies or deny medical services to the elderly if it saves money! :(

I never listened to him, either — and based on news clips, have had contempt for him. The teevee speech was a lot better than Obama/Gibbs/Biden, however.

“[Obama] is a postmodern relativist who believes that concepts such as right and wrong, goodness and badness, or truth and falsehood are not absolute but change from culture to culture and situation to situation.”
Yes: their favorite saying is “Don’t make judgements” … a deceptively-”reasonable” directive designed to hide a HOST of evils.

Obama as a post modern relativist? Is someone channeling Ayn Rand or dittoing Camille Paglia? Notice I diplomatically left Ann Coulter out. : )

“In comparison Obama has no moral center or code of ethics.”
So you are making the judgement from your in depth knowledge of Obamas & Limbaughs life?
barbara if “I hope he fails” was used in any context toward President Bush you would have been running the streets with a lantern crying TREASON!

“Obama as a post modern relativist?”
Both the Obamas have been in the corporate pocket since they were teenagers. Obama is a cute little figurehead — nearly 50, acts like 19 … which is really creepy — for corporate fascism. How complicated IS it?

Jake – I couldn’t stop laughing when you couldn’t keep a straight face when Charlie espoused the Obama talking point of “halving the deficit in four years”. Your reaction spoke for most sane people out there. Thank you for your continued hard-nosed investigative style and for calling a spade a spade on both sides of the aisle. It’s really refreshing.

I agree with Mr. Tapper that Limbaugh is an “incredibly gifted broadcaster.”. Although not everyone will agree with that, it’s funny to see so many who express hatred towards him, and who claim to never listen to his program. lol
Actually, I suspect many liberals listen to him but stay hidden in the closet about it for fear of being ostracized by their fellow travelers. lol
Mr. Tapper – You should try to get the opportunity to interview Limbaugh.

We should lament the PASSING of responsible and non editorialized journalism so well exemplified in the Rose interview.

Yes, by all means do, Mr. Tapper.

I think the Republicans’core values are out of date hence the confusion.
The very definition of the word conservative sounds very last century and fails to reflect the ideology of the party.
The liberals have captured the mood of the nation. People are no longer conservative but very liberal in their outlook.
Rush’s translation of consevatism falls within the framework of the seven deadly sins – Lust, Greed, Hateful, Pride, Gluttony, Rogues,& Adultery -
I for one view the word in the context of moral values.
I think going to the extreme right is wrong and going to the extreme left is wrong. A concession has got to be reached and policies have to be re-written to reflect the present age.
I am an independent and somehow I feel the current President has managed to identify the malaise in Capital Hill. You cannot make fair policies when you are on somebody else’s payroll – Lobbyist are a detriment to constructive policies.
Following all that has taken place post-enron I think there ought to be more outcry . It is not about party politics it is down to us all as individuals to curb our excesses.
When you talk about big government and small government I don’t exactly see what difference that makes.
I think you are all being too hasty in your assessment of the President – I am an independent but I have managed to capture his core values and it is quite powerful he has managed to embrass that fundamental universal human principle “loving your neighbour as yourself”. The challenge for him is to translate it into reality and he is truly working on it.
For me he has delivered- his manifesto was hope and change -on change spot-on
I am hopeful actually confident that once he has cleaned up this mess which unfortunately requires the tax payer to finance before confidence returns to the marketplace and thae banks, we will all realise how Rush’s assesment was so wrong about wanting it to fail.
However, I am voting for Rush come 2012.

“Rush’s translation of consevatism falls within the framework of the seven deadly sins – Lust, Greed, Hateful, Pride, Gluttony, Rogues,& Adultery – ”
What a ridiculous statement. That is your translation. Name one thing Limbaugh has said or stood for that falls within your translation.

Sigmonde, when you voice an opinion that states that you want the President to fail – long bofe he came into office surely that is way off-line.
Im defence I did say come 2012 I would like him to come on board I will surely vote for him.
Rush – 2012

“Sigmonde, when you voice an opinion that states that you want the President to fail”
I want Kim Jog Il to fail. I want Castro to fail, too. Throw in Chavez and Ahmadinejad. Do you like their policies and want them to succeed?
Your wanting to vote for Rush is no excuse for making such a ridiculous statement that you made.

Jake Tapper,
You really are a great reporter. Really you are. One of my favorite. Honestly. One thing that I noticed, several times in your articles and reporting, when describing statements made by president Obama, you refer to it as rhetoric. I find it interesting that when speaking of Mr. Limbaugh, you describe him as an “incredibly gifted broadcaster”, etc. but no reference was made to Mr. Limbaugh’s statements as being rhetoric. Just saying.
