Department of ‘Distractions’
Last September, after Republicans and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., jumped on the fairly bogus "lipstick on a pig" story during last year’s campaign, then-Sen. Obama angrily said, "the American people are looking to us for answers. Not distractions, not diversions, not manipulations. They want real answers to the real problems we are facing. That’s the kind that I intend to have because that’s the kind of debate the American people deserve."
So what would he make of the DNC’s new fundraising campaign to put a billboard aimed at Rush Limbaugh in the conservative talk show host’s home town of West Palm Beach, Florida? — jpt

Definitely a distraction, but with the elections so far out what else is the DNC going to do?
Obama’s main ability to move his agenda is the ‘bully pulpit’ of the presidency, engaging the public opinion is part of his job. But the bulletin board is just silly time killing, in the same vein as occasional RNC outbursts about socialism.

President Obama is a Democrat. He is the President of the United States duly elected by the American people. The DNC is NOT President Obama, nor is he the DNC. The DNC is the Democratic National Committee; it does not speak for the President and the President does not speak for it, nor is he a member of the DNC. If the DNC chooses to play games with flatuential (as opposed to influential) Limbaugh, that’s their choice. Obviously, the only attention the President is paying to any of this silliness is to have a good laugh.

“We’re moving toward everyone’s medical records being electronically centralized (except Obama’s).”
This is the new right wing talking point that works on fear.
The RNC sections Healthcare reform read in part:
Advances in medical technology are revolutionizing medicine. Information technology is key to early detection and treatment of chronic disease as well as fetal care and health care in rural areas – especially where our growing wireless communications network is available. The simple step of modernizing recordkeeping will mean faster, more accurate treatment, fewer medical errors, and lower costs. Closing the health care information gap can reduce both under-utilization (the diabetic who forgets to refill an insulin prescription) and over-utilization (the patient who endures repetitive tests because providers have not shared test results).

I totally agree that the White House and administration are now full of immature children who refused to grow up. Obama is showing his lack of intelligence, experience, and dignity by instructing his minions to attack a private citizen. Doesn’t that make everyone here mad? Isn’t it unconstitutional? Better yet, has anyone read the Constitution lately and realized that NOTHING that is going on in Washington is authorized by this bedrock of our Republic?
Obama’s entire administration is a farce and a nightmare from which we hopefully we all awaken soon. Handing our government over to these thugs was the gravest error in judgement this country has ever shown. Obama is a puppet who is about to fall flat on his face.
He also is ineligible to hold the office, in case anyone hasn’t been informed. He is not a natural-born citizen, and that fact is about to be exposed on a national level.

To answer my pop quiz, it was Ari Fleischer who leveled that not-very-subtle threat I posted towareds Bill Maher at a press briefing on Sept. 26, 2001. Were you upset then, by the president being cited by his press secretary:
“…there was an earlier question about has the President said anything to people in his own party—they’re reminders to all Americans that they need to watch what they say, watch what they do. This is not a time for remarks like that; there never is.”
And you have to be astonishingly ignorant to think even Ari’s comment is even vaguely unconstitutional. You really should read it – part of the beauty of the Constitution is that it’s short and sweet.

The “Lipstick on a Pig” comment was clearly directed at Palin. The audience reacted knowingly and even gave Obama a standing O.
Limbaugh did say he wants Obama to fail. He also said that is because he wants the country to succeed.
SO lets see, everytime Obama opens his mouth and passes spending and bailout bills, when he announces a huge 10 year spending plan with massive tax hikes to offset the massive debt he plans the dow plummets.
I think Rush is right.
We would have been better off is the fake debt/pork/special interest non-stimulus bill had not been passed.
I think Rush is right. We will be better off if Obama fails to pass his massive 10 year budget plan with economy destroying tax increases.
Now I am trying to remember to get this right, but didn’t democrats have a non-stop 8 year abusive rant hoping Bush would fail, and die and so on.

Newsflash, Obama doesn’t control the DNC. Jake gets that if you actually take the time to read the entire article. That is usually a good idea to finish an article before you start writing.
To answer Jake’s question, I would have no idea what Obama would think of this DNC billboard. No one does, unless they profess to be a mind reader or think they are all knowing.
What I think is that it is funny. Finally the DNC is not lying down and taking some of the negative b.s. from the far right that Rush represents. Rush’s remarks about wanting the President’s efforts to fail when that would mean more suffering for more Americans is unpatriotic. I hope there is a boycott of Rush’s advertisers. (AP) Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid called President Bush “a loser” during a civics discussion with a group of teenagers at a high school on Friday.
“The man’s father is a wonderful human being,” Reid, D-Nev., told students at Del Sol High School when asked about the president’s policies. “I think this guy is a loser.”

Frankly, I don’t see Rush as just a silly distraction ala “lipstick on a pig”. “Lipstick on a pig” was a silly dust-up about a turn of phrase, that had nothing to do with politics or policy. Rush is ostensibly an entertainer but apparently many in the Republican party take their political cues from him. It’s not the Democrats who have elevated Rush to the point that he was giving the keynote address at THE conservative political event (CPAC) last week, an address that was broadcast live on CNN, as though Rush were the leader of a political party. It’s not the DNC that elevated Rush’s political importance to the point that Republican members of Congress or chairs of the RNC who dare to criticize him are forced to grovel in abject apology within 48 hours.
It seems to me, he has been appointed by Republican politicians as their defacto leader. And he’s on the radio every day espousing his political views which Republican leaders are afraid to challenge. Is this not something the other political party should push back against in any way?

That is NOT what I was referring to at all. I was referring to the Sept 26, 2001 press conference where Ari attacked Bill Maher (as I stated before – did you not read my post at all?). The full exchange is:
Q: As Commander-In-Chief, what was the President’s reaction to television’s Bill Maher, in his announcement that members of our Armed Forces who deal with missiles are cowards, while the armed terrorists who killed 6,000 unarmed are not cowards, for which Maher was briefly moved off a Washington television station?
A: I have not discussed it with the President, one. I have—
Q: Surely, as a—
A: I’m getting there.
Q: Surely as Commander, he was enraged at that, wasn’t he?
A: I’m getting there, Les.
Q: Okay.
A: I’m aware of the press reports about what he said. I have not seen the actual transcript of the show itself. But assuming the press reports are right, it’s a terrible thing to say, and it unfortunate. And that’s why—there was an earlier question about has the President said anything to people in his own party—they’re reminders to all Americans that they need to watch what they say, watch what they do. This is not a time for remarks like that; there never is.

Yes, you see the part of what you’ve quoted where Ari says:

He is referring to the question I quoted from earlier in the same press conference.
He is saying to be careful about saying things like *that*.

It is of course a matter of opinion, but a few quotes include:
“since [Sen. Barack] Obama [D-IL] has — on his mother’s side — forebears of his mother had slaves, could we not say that if Obama wins the Democratic nomination and then wins the presidency, he will own [Rev.] Al Sharpton?”
“Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it. ”
“I’m going to tell you, what’s good for al-Qaeda is good for the Democratic Party in this country today. That’s how you boil this down. And it doesn’t have to be al-Qaeda. What’s good for terrorists is good for John Kerry.”

Plumber – Ryan may choose to chime in, but considering I have a family member with Parkinsons and millions suffer from it – this Limbaugh special quote ranks as pretty darn hateful
“He is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He’s moving all around and shaking and it’s purely an act. … This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn’t take his medication or he’s acting.”

He made fun of Michale J. Fox’s Parkinson disease.
He insinuated that Sheldon Brown’s treatment by the press had to do with his being black (He’s white)
He compared the torture at Abu Gharib to a frat party

I see that obama’s tactic of redirecting weak-minded individuals’ attention to the Steele-Rush thing while Rome burns is working on you! Meanwhile, the DJI is down again nearly 300 points commensurate with the confidence in has in obama’s ability to charm the markets with his rhetoric. Boy, if you all can tell truly me that this is what you voted for, well then Lenin was right.

you’re correct, your leadership instead has been given the finger by Russia after the very clumsy and naive attempt to get them to tell Iran, THEIR MAJOR NUCLEAR CUSTOMER (duh), to stop their nuclear program. And to make matters look all the more amateur, obama signaled to E. Europe that we’d abandon them in a second just to “look good”. BTW, nice unwitting dis of the British PM. But you’re right, this whole Steele-Rush thing is much more significant.

The “Phony Soldier” quote directly spoke about Jesse MacBeth.
Here is the story from the Seattle paper about it:
A Tacoma man who falsely claimed he was a decorated war hero when he took the stage at demonstrations held in opposition to the U.S.’s role in Iraq was sentenced this morning to five months in prison in U.S. District Court in Seattle. Jesse MacBeth, 23, was also sentenced to three months in a halfway house after his release and three years of probation.
MacBeth claimed that he was an Army ranger who killed more than 200 people, many at close range, including some as they prayed in a mosque. He spoke at an anti-war rally in Tacoma and appeared in a 20-minute anti-war video that circulated widely on the Internet.
In reality, MacBeth made it through only six weeks of Army basic training and never set foot in Iraq.
Conservative bloggers exposed MacBeth in May 2006, destroying his credibility and embarrassing the Seattle company that produced the video about his exploits. …
PepperSpray Productions in Seattle produced the video titled “Jesse MacBeth: An Iraq Veteran Speaks Out.” In the film, MacBeth told nuanced tales of brutal killings he carried out at the behest of his commanding officers.

The bigger issue is exactly this:
The economic and social policies of Team Obama are driving this country into a second depression. Instead of debating the ideas related to nationalizing banks, insurance, auto companies, healthcare, and increasing taxes on home buyers, health care spenders, charity givers, and capital traders, the adminstration is focusing their efforts on finding enemies.
This is Change? It’s only a return to the policies of Lenin.
Gibbs said earlier “What’s good for wall street is not good for main street”. This may be true for those government workers who have cushy pensions and jobs. It’s not true for people who are trying to save for retirement and investing in the market. That’s most people. It’s not true for the 15 million small businesses that will get hit with higher taxes.
When has there been a President whose primary economic advisors have no corporate experience? A President that surrounds himself with academics from liberal ivory towers?
Ask yourself, why does Team Obama want to destroy your life savings? Are they so set against corporations that they don’t mind hurting the workers of this country? Or are they so oblivious (“Profit Earnings ratio”) that they just don’t realize or care what they are doing?
At this rate, the DOW will hit 1000 by the end of the year, wiping out 90% of every worker’s retirement in this country.
I know my retired parents are now considering going back to work. They are in their 70s. Does this count toward Obama’s vision of putting people back to work?
When will this stop? What can ordinary people do to fight this disaster?????

Congressional Republicans are trying to figure out how to distance themselves from Rush Limbaugh without really distancing themselves too much from Rush Limbaugh.
Democrats laid the trap by declaring Limbaugh the head of the GOP, and Republicans in Congress can’t seem to figure out how to solve the riddle.
They don’t want to appear that they are taking marching orders from the conservative talk show host, but at the same time, they are wary of criticizing him and enduring the wrath of his powerful microphone and millions of listeners.

The Obama Administration’s and the DNC’s obsession with Rush Limbaugh is so much more than a distraction. It is a huge disaster for them. That’s because all of this publicity they are giving to Rush will only lead to even higher ratings for his show. And with 1,772,000 individuals having lost their jobs in the past three months and tens of thousands more losing their jobs every day (February’s numbers will be released tomorrow), and now having so much free time, I wonder how many of these individuals will start listening to Rush?

Since more Rush ugliness was asked for here it is.
Quotes on women:
Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society
She comes to me when she wants to be fed. And after I feed her — guess what — she’s off to wherever she wants to be in the house, until the next time she gets hungry. She’s smart enough to know she can’t feed herself. She’s actually a very smart cat. She gets loved. She gets adoration. She gets petted. She gets fed. And she doesn’t have to do anything for it, which is why I say this cat’s taught me more about women, than anything my whole life
We’re not sexists, we’re chauvinists — we’re male chauvinist pigs, and we’re happy to be because we think that’s what men were destined to be. We think that’s what women want.

This is a perfect example of what obama does very well: set up straw men for weak-minded “Americans” to attack while these hugely destructive policies are put in place, proving the adage that communism will succeed in overtaking the west by dint of “useful idiots”, as stated by Lenin. BTW, Jim Cramer, ardently supporting obama (against common sense and evidence) is now saying that obama is doing more to destroy the wealth of this country than anyone or anything in history. Now all together liberals, demonize HIM too (while obama slips away).

7 Broken Promises in Record Time
1. Make government open and transparent.
2. Make it “impossible” for Congressmen to slip in pork barrel projects.
3. Meetings where laws are written will be more open to the public. (Even Congressional Republicans shut out.)
4. No more secrecy.
5. Public will have 5 days to look at a bill.
6. You’ll know what’s in it.
7. We will put every pork barrel project online.

Oh, you’re right Ryan, the stocks AREN’T reacting to obamas lack of focus, huge taxes on the horizon), and basically ineptly flailing around and “gyrating” (I for one make more than 250,000 and no way in HELL will be spending, investing, or hiring, for, well who knows how long, and that’s the essence of why the DJI keeps tanking). When he talks about taxing the “evil rich”, he is not speaking of the lazy entitled slugs like Paris Hilton, or Hollywood actors that make $20,000,000 in 3 months for a crappy and inaccurate film about a Hitler assassination attempt. They are talking about people who have worked their butts off their whole lives to try and get themselves and their family ahead. They have seen financial security as the light at the end of the tunnel for many years of hard work. Take doctors for example. College 4 years, medical school 4 years, residency (at 180-100 hrs/week at 30-40K/year for 3-5 years), 100-200K in debt in loans at the end of it. Many don’t get to enjoy their lives and start a family until they are 30-40yrs old. But they are going to be punished because they make more than the 250K limit. Think about how WRONG and counterproductive that is. I note BTW when demonizing people who (work their butts off for the most part to) make alot of money, he never seems to include pols and Hollywood elite…

Oh, btw, a couple of fun facts for liberals:
1. Universal health care will provide “free” health care to 12-20 million illegal aliens at the cost of rationing for the rest of us: older people will be denied health care, as well as the obese, and smokers, like they do in other single payer system countries.
2. I know, obama said you’d be able to keep your private insurance, but he isn’t telling you about “crowd out”, where the defacto insurance people/businesses will choose is the “free one”. It’s not like obama has consistenly lied, oh, I don’t know, about cutting pork, being transparent, letting the public view the bills…
3. Econ studies have shown that if you tax the upper 2-3% at even a 100% rate, there will not be even CLOSE to enough money for all his programs, at even the rosiest economic growth. Guess what: you (middle class) will see a huge increase in taxes (just like in Chicago, where I and The One are from).
4. Increase business taxes and cap and trade? They get passed onto you and the poor. Nice, huh?
Okay, I know, let’s talk about right wing conspiracies, bald cramer, or the Steele-Rush drama, that’ll get our minds off it…

There won’t be enough billboards for that. Apparently they have never heard of free speech? I hope Limbaugh sues ’cause I’ve had enough of the juvenile crap. GET A LIFE PEOPLE. Hawk – while you claim “fun facts for liberals”, what is happening with our nation’s healthcare is impacting individuals of all ideologies. 1/2 of all bankruptcies are due to medical expenses.
You can claim your right winger, fear mongering talking points, but how do you solve the facts that the US has the most expensive healthcare in the world, yet rates
#24 in life expectancy
#72 in Health Performance (Can you even name 72 countries?)
#2nd in total expenditure on healthcare as a percentage of our GDP
The rationing of healthcare is a fear tactic that you seem to have bought hook, line and sinker. btw we already give healthcare to millions of illegal immigrants. They can not, by law be turned away at an ER if hey are ill.
Give some solutions- instead of fear tactics.

We need to ask ourselves, if words, be it constructive or destructive are free, why do we have to pay for sessions with the Psychologists?
Words can either make or mare. Words are like eggs, once its falls and breaks, it can not be taken back.
A word, depending on the recepient’s level of education, awareness and exposure, may connote 1001 meanings.
That is why in the valley that the worlds economy is, soothing words are sine quanon.
Speakers are supposed to be responsible enough to know that in times of massives unemployment, massive depreciation of values of investments in 401(k), massive foreclosures, words that should be sent out there are words of encouragement.
Words to tell those who are hurting that everybody is praying for the recuperation of the ailing economy.
Words of hope, words of encouragement.
Rush Limbaugh has the opportunity to be heard by over 20million Americans on weekly basis. This group of Americans are the old, the least educated, the uneducated and retirees who faithfully tune in to get a fix from the “wisdom” of Rush Limbaugh.
They don’t read Newspapers, the don’t access the Internet hence, whatever they hear from Rush Limbaugh is believed to have come from an enlightened mouth.
These words are capable of turning this group of People for or against the Government.
Must the Government fold its hands and watch while Rush Limbaugh misleads its Citizens, the answer is NO!
So I believe that if Rush Limbaugh can not help in soothing the pains of People with kind words, he should keep his peace and remain silent.
If he is endowed with so much wisdom, why not run for Office? It is easy to be an arm-chair Critic. It is easy to be a chicken-little.
Rush Limbaugh should either shape-in or shape-out.
Posted by: Dare Nigeria | March 6, 2009, 2:21 am 2:21 am
Dare Nigeria, with all due respect, you are completely wrong about your assessment of Rush Limbaugh and his audience. Rush has been doing what he does for over 2 decades. He does not speak FOR us. His success has been the fact that he has been able to express OUR views so eloquently. If you listened to Rush everyday (all three hours) for even just one week, you would know that he does–in fact–spread Hope and he does encourage Americans to strive to be the best they can be.
Now to your question: “If he is endowed with so much wisdom, why not run for Office?” Why should he give up his childhood dream? But most importantly, why should he deprive the federal government of millions of dollars each year in federal income taxes?
