Karl Rove’s Roundtable Fireworks
Karl Rove, former President Bush’s chief strategist and political guru, joined our "This Week" Roundtable for the first time today.
Rove sparred today with The Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuvel and Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg over President Obama’s economic plan.

Mr.Rove has inflicted severe hardship on our country through dishonest and potentially illegal means. It is shameful this man is allowed to speak on national television.
An open and honest debate about the direction of our country is always welcome and is necessary. However, Mr. Roves actions have proven that he is not interested in, and in fact may be incapable of, honesty.

I agree with Kathleen. Not only is this man an angry idealogue, but very probably a criminal (“executive privilege”?). The only person on the right whom I could think of as a worse choice to participate in your ’roundtable’ would be Rush Limbaugh, although I suppose that, by virtue of continued reference, he actually did…
Posted by: Carla Bond | March 1, 2009, 2:24 pm 2:24 pm
Mr Rove claimed executive privilege because he had an “official role” in the Gov. Siegelman prosecution and refused to do his duty and testify under subpeona to Congress many times.
It was a criminal case. Why does the chief political strategist have a role in a criminal prosecution unless it’s political?
Karl Rove should be accountable to the rule of law like an average citizen in this country, not exempt becuase he is a friend of George Bush.
As long as ABC puts unethical and deceptive manipulators on TV, it enables and is complicit with their malfeasance.

Please…NO MORE Rove. Foul wind, he is. Eight years of him ruining our Nation was too much. Why even bother to hear this smarmy liar talk more garbage.

“shameless”.

How many tax raises are in the budget. I heard a $1.50 gas tax is in the budget Obama wants. I guess we have to pay for this some how.
Posted by: jane | March 1, 2009, 2:28 pm 2:28 pm
While I appreciate the titillating attraction of having Rove on to spar against Vanden Heuval, it is sort of re-hashing what we voters already decided in November. This left vs. right refrain is so old school. I have decided to simply tune in to CNN’s Fareed Zakaria’s GPS given its real breadth and adult approach to dialogue and consensus. From addressing the schism of Islamic fundamentalism to the economic analysis of our banking meltdown, Fareed brings the best voices to the fore and goes one step beyond. He engages the audience to answer the big questions and recommends books to help them understand more about what’s pressing and indicates why his selections are important. It is time to revamp This Week if it is to remain relevant.

Obama said,”no one is above the law”
SO Congress must demand & the Justice Dept must appoint a Special Prosecutor with Subpoena Powers & authority to indict all found to have violated Federal Laws, Constitution or Geneva Convention on Torture. The State of Limitations starts to run out in March. Prosecution will stop unnecessary wars & damage to our economy caused by presidential lies & Abuse Of Power. Bush & Cheney confessed that they ordered torture. Sen. Leahy & Rep. John Conyers’ “commissions” will be nothing but a white wash and a burial for all time of the true facts.

katrina was very hostile toward Mr Rove which i found offensive. i did not see where an open and fair and honest debate with her was possible. carl is a humanbeing and deserves the right to put forth his ideas. i would not have her back as a guest if she treats others guest the way she treated rove. He may have been wrong but unless we hear both sides we cannot make an honest decission. The way she answered the question about the web site, i question her honesty as to her veiwing the site. I cannot see her spending much time on anything she already had decided was evil. Not many presedents had to deal with 2 wars, a couple of disasters, and other misc problems. i hope her reactions to rove and others are shown to her when obama is judged.

It made it in the budget, but it’s hidden.
WASHINGTON – Motorists are driving less and buying less gasoline, which means fuel taxes aren’t raising enough money to keep pace with the cost of road, bridge, and transit programs.
A federal commission created by Congress to find a way to make up the growing revenue shortfall in the program that funds highway repairs and construction is set to call for a hefty increase in federal gas and diesel taxes.
I’m not excited about a gas tax increase, but the reality is our current gas tax doesn’t pay for upkeep of the system we have now,” said Adrian Moore, vice president of the Reason Foundation, a libertarian think tank in Los Angeles, and a member of the highway revenue commission.

I like having Rove on the show. I don’t always agree with him, but he speaks what he feels is honest. On a different note, I get the feeling that everyone is afraid to talk about the Fair tax. It is gaining popularity pretty quick. When people are loosing jobs at the rate we are seeing, it is funny how people will warm up to something that has been around for a while but has been ignored. It would fix 90% of our immediate problems. The next person to run on that platform has my vote hands down. I am sick of trying to borrow our way out of the economic downturn. It makes no sense. You need to have an honest discussion on the Fair Tax.

However, I have never loved a weighty balance of guests in your show as today when Katrina Vanden Huevel of the nation put Mr. Rove on a very nervous edge and back into his antiquated republican shell full of stale ideology. Would like to see Katrina and Stanley Greenberg any other day against maybe rush limbaugh and Newt gingrich.

Don’t give a partisan incompetent like Rove or his Fox cronies a legitimate stage on your show George. All he does is carp his talking points. His party sold us out for their benefit. All he can do is talk over any debate.
Posted by: Davisp | March 1, 2009, 3:17 pm 3:17 pm
George, this was just great tv. You did a wonderful job of letting the panel go at each other. It was a pleasure to watch Rove grilled by people who can actually challenge his pts. The moment of the absurd came when Rove tried to talk about fiscal responsibility. Thankfully Katrina and Stan were on their game.
Katrina had never been better. She had several great pts:
1) Obama’s redefining an active gov as pragmatism.
2) The GOP has become a party of no: “no new ideas, no solutions, no clue, and no shame.”
3) It is silly to call Obama a socialist when u have Sen Graham and Greespan calling for nationalization of banks.
Thanks for making this Sunday so enjoyable.

If you want to have continued viewership, don’t invite Rove back. He is a discredit to your open and honest discussion. I enjoy listening to people with whom I disagree. But I will not support those who engage in raw, unprincipled grabs for power that are utterly devoid of any moral compass.

Karl Rove’s appearance today on “This Week” completed the degeneration of what once was a fine program into yet another me-too partisan food-fight.
I feared this result when ABC replaced David Brinkley, with his distinguished career as a journalist, by hiring an out-of-work partisan political staffer and spin doctor, even if he was from my own party.
I was eventually heartened when the weekly round table continued to offer a platform for non-combatants of all political stripes to comment on the follies and frauds of the practicing political professionals, and when George S started developing a decent set of interview skills.
Now, it seems ABC has decided to give up any pretense of being a news show, choosing instead to become yet another venue for ad hominem attacks and “big lie” partisan propaganda. Pairs of ideologues shouting insults past each other does nothing to inform the public or explicate critical national issues.
In particular, I was dismayed today by two things.
The first was what appeared to be a gross mismatching of the GOP A-team against a set of third-string subs for Dems. Where were equally articulate and reputable spokesmen the other side today (answer, they were on MTP)?
Second, where was George S as moderator of this discussion? Why does he allow either side to make assertions of fact that are blatantly and demonstrably false?
If today’s show represents a deliberate programming decision by ABC News, you have done a great disservice to ABC’s journalistic integrity and values. The Roger Ailes model of Faux News is not a path I’d like to see ABC follow.
In the meantime, I’d recommend Fareed Zakaria’s GPS as a replacement source of actual news and commentary, until ABC comes to its senses, or the team at MTP find a worthy replacement for Tim Russert.

I thought Karl Rove was in jail for outing a covert CIA agent, politicizing the department of justice, and dirty corruption dealing with Jackoff Abram. He’s out already?
It’s nice of ABC to rehabilitate his image and try to help hims become a respectable member of society after he faced justice and paid his debt to society.

Actually, it was Rove’s strategy to distroy John McCain during Bush’s first run for President. It was his idea to insinuate that McCain had fathered a black child. As for that “black haired bitch” Katrina ate his lunch. He suggested that she read the Republican proposal online and she shot back that she had. She then pointed out that Jindal, in his snoozer of a speech was standing there talking about Republican principals while his state ranks 46 out of 50 in highschool graduates. Cheer Elmer Fudd all you like but he’s as out of touch as his dumb ass party and that Da Truth!

You know what I will always remember about Bush and the Republicans….”If you are not with us, you are against us.” That was before throwing us into pointless battle in the ME, allowing deregulatory and predatory financial shenanigans to run wild, spying on Americans while removing most of our freedoms through his executive (dictator) powers and giving tax breaks to the wealthy, who did not need it. Now you are all suddenly against spending on US the American people who need it most. So right back at you with that haunting quote Republicans. So are you for us, the people? I hated this! If I wanted to watch someone like Rove (with everyone just yelling at each other and talking over one another) I would just watch Fox.
If this signals any kind of change in the programing, I’ll just tune out and look else where for commentary.
There are plenty of intelligent conservatives and republicans around (see G Will), using talking head “red meat” Republicans like Rove is not what I tune in to see.

That’s right Rove destroyed McCain in 2000 with completely dishonest character assassination but SO WHAT? that was a long time ago.
Wait a minute, it was Rove who testified four times to Fitz’s grand jury about who outed a CIA agent and it was Rove who had to resign before Bush’s second term was over and it was Rove who sent his opposition research minions to infect the DOJ with political hacks and it was Rove whose fingerprints are all over the Seigelman prosecution but SO WHAT? …when has character or even abiding by the law been a Republican value?

Wrong again Jane! For instance, Mark Sanford of South Carolina wins this prize. His states unemployment rate is 14.2%. That’s higher than California. This idiot is one of the clowns who is not interested in taking the unemployment extensions for his state.

A good round-table.
Rowe is a used car salesman with a high IQ. If he could get a potato elected to political office, he would. I am sure his services are available to anyone with 30 pieces of silver.
There are way too many people around Washington like him, politics is just a game to them. Label someone liberal, or conservative and get your candidate elected. Who cares what happens to the country, they are getting paid 250k or more, money can always buy them what they need.
Where were the wonderful fiscally conservative republicans when MR Bush was spending like a drunken sailor at whorehouse? I know they were being team players and supporting the team.
I don’t know if Obama is overreaching with his ambitious agenda. At least he is trying to do something. Not sitting back say, “I am the decider,(insert stupid beavis/bush sound here)!

Our national economic disater was CREATED by BUSH AKA ROVE. Obama has been in office for only 1 MONTH. Rove should never have been allowed to speak by ABC about solutions to problems HE engineered. We don’t need fireworks we need an honest and productive DEBATE. I find the entire episode disgusting. George S. sat on his hands and was a shrinking violet when Rove wes bullying and bringing attention to his prowress at TV ads (4 refences!) and his forte at LYING, TRICKING and MANIPULATING the American people. Obama WON you fat bully. Go get in bed with your Doppleganger Rush. Shame on you ABC!!! You need to rethink advertising theatre which equals dollars. Did you get a new producer? Who is running the show? Decide if you want to be The Real Housewives of Orange County or just real. We already have a FOX! REPENT ABC!

Rove appeared defensive, but keep him on. I wish he would have acknowledged that Rep’s could have done more to better manage spending the last 8 years, but hopefully he and Heuvall can agree that deficits matter. If they mattered for the last 8 years why don’t they matter now? Obama ran in part on being fiscally conservative, but there is nothing fiscally conservative in anything he has done to date. Somehow the Heuvall’s and Rove’s of this world need to find common ground, at times agree to disagree, and treat each other with civility (something that has also been lacking for the last 8 years). Frankly, they both come across as arrogant. I’d agree that Gingrich is better, keeping in mind that Rove was basically an outstanding political strategist, not so sure about a policy spokesman.

If you did not see the exchange today between Katrina Vanden Huevel of the Nation and Mr. Greenberg against Karl Rove, I think it is a good reason to start watching This Week with Stephanopoulous every sunday morning.
What I don’t understand is how men like Rove can look us in the eye and keep selling the same failed policies of the past. Does he not get it? Times are changing.
I voted for Obama though I also am a strong subscriber to the Republican philosophy of smaller government, private enterprise, personal responsibility and hard work But we must mix some of these with ideas that also work and make sense.

irma,
I too remember this
“If you are not with us, you are against us.”
but I think Bush said
“You are with us or you are with the terrorists.”
Which means that if I didn’t support his war of choice in Iraq the case for which was fraudulent intelligence about 9/11 and Saddam and Nukes, that Bush said I was with the terrorists. That’s when he lost me. We had no cause to invade Iraq and Bush wanted to label me a terrorist for saying so.

George did a good job moderating the discussion. The key was individuals were able to ask questions and the responses though I didn’t agree with everything said were understandable. Given the group I was impressed with George’s efforts to moderate the discussion.

Rove continues to be an amoral political strategist. Obama is keeping his promise of conservatism with less wasteful spending where it is not needed. He is refocusing spending where it is needed.

After the discussion I do have one question, is there a website or group that can provide a clear concise objective view on what Obama has proposed that is not tied to one political group or another? I want to understand the options but it does seem when you listen to the conversations the responses are tailored to specific political persuasions.

My husband and I were disappointed to see Karl Rove on this week. He is a criminal who put politics before country and now puts is own self interest before complying with subpoenas. Why would you put him on any panel on ABC??? Frankly, he could not hold a candle to Katrina vanden Heuvel. I like different viewpoints. I don’t like unscrupulous thugs.

Someone mentioned Katarina seeming hostile toward Rove. I saw what you mean, you forgot to mention that while she was trying to make a point, Rove was condescending, asking her to call him Karl several times as he interrupted her comment. That’s when he got “the look” from her. I felt it was quite an appropriate look that epitomizes how many Americans feel and it’s everything Karl Rove DESERVES.

She is just another liberal whiner.
No one is getting a tax cut. That is a fact. by the time the ink is dry on this package. The carbon emissions tax alone is ging to force gas prices up and eat any tax cut we would have received. Add to that the tax on small business and anyone making over 250,000
You honestly do not believe we will be paying higher prices? Let alone that they cannot claim their mortages or donations. I guess it doesn’t pay to be successful in this country. WAKE UP PEOPLE this is another homespun OBAMA FAIRYTALE

Political diversity among members of the round table facilitates discussion; but I would much prefer to see the discussion carried on without Karl Rove. There are any number of engaging, out-of-work conservatives who would love a chance to do a bit of sparring with your team. Please do find a legitimate replacement and send Rove packing.

Reasons why Rove should not have been on THIS WEEK: 1. he has ignored Congressional subpoenas repeatedly (and would have roundly condemned Dem’s for doing likewise). 2. he is not a journalist or anything close to that. 3. it is well and good to have a balanced discussion but surely there are right-wing writers/reporters who could be invited to opine without having someone of Rove’s ilk (or another right-wing nut such as Rush.

Attention O,
Isn’t it interesting how the Media keeps calling it a Stimulus Bill (Wall Street didn’t think so) even though it is at least 50% a Spending Bill (more of their subtle, or not so subtle Repetitious Indoctrination).
For this bill to have truly been a Stimulus Bill it needed to be at least 70% Stimulus, and if Obum had been true to his word it would have been 90% Stimulus – Real Change or just “Change you can Xerox”.
Half of the spending (if not more) will become long term Social Programmies (many of which the Demi-Dems had been frothing at the mouth over for years). Short term spending is what is Real Stimulus, not stuff spent over 2-3 years or more (if not in Perpetuity).
Obama botched it – he had a Real chance to Stimulate the economy but he chose to Spend, and this ‘So Called’ Stimulus bill may stimulate the economy a bit, but probably not enough.
Also,
All the liberals keep saying that Republicans only want to help Big Business with bailouts (with no concern for average Americans), but it has mostly been the Republicans who have fought not to bail the auto industry, and also mainly the ones who fought against helping the banks (basically staying true to their principles – Bush is somewhat of an exception, and many conservatives said, all along, “he was not a true conservative” – and that is somewhat true……….liberal oversimplifications especially don’t apply in this financial crisis). The Financial Institutions Are somewhat of a special case because they Help to control the ‘money spigot’ (along with government) to other industries (which severely influences job creation).
I myself, am basically a ‘stopgap’ Free-Marketer: believing it is best to let the market operate unless it is one of those rare instances where the Gov. must step in, in those very adverse situations (maybe twice each century). Because of this I basically think Bush had No choice, at least in the short run. In the long run the Republicans may turn out to be correct. It may take Chapter 11 Restructuring to make the Auto Industry produce better cars, that will sell better, so the industry can support itself.
Liberals also keep saying that Republicans always want to Deregulate. Not true; it was the liberals who wanted to keep the Sub-Prime Loans deregulated (making loans cheap & easy for those who could not ‘really’ afford them). Republicans wanted to regulate in this case but the Dems stopped it. Also, I have yet to hear of a Republican who has said we should scrap the basic Anti-Trust Regulations (against Insider Trading, Collusion, Price Fixing etc.).
Liberal ‘Oversimplifications’ are working rather well for them (politically) at this moment, because the public basically does not understand these intricacies. However, a Closer, more Knowledgeable Look at the situation easily shows up the fallacies of their politicking.
Busk may have wanted some bailouts (or assistance) however, he did not plan to bail out everything that moved as O’bum is doing.
Read the above throughally till you understand it, and study some basic economic theory for more clarification, and you won’t
be So Clueless.

Kurt, all PBS news shows are far superior to the networks and cable. The News Hour, Mclaughlin Group, Gwyn E.,Frontline, Bill Moyers etc. The networks are too beholding to certain corporations/backers. BTW, did anyone notice how skewed (against Obama) CBS was yesterday on the evening news. They presented half of the story with most of the arguments against the budget. Whereas ABC eve. news did a more detailed two sided presentation.

The most recent episode of THIS WEEK featuring Karl Rove as a member of the Roundtable is without a doubt one of the dumbest, least stimulating episodes I’ve ever seen. This is what happens when you have Mr. Right (Karl) vs. Ms. Left (Katrina). Instead of having open, honest debate, we get a bunch of lies and distortions about who inherited what recession and which party can rack up the biggest deficit.

It seems that Karl Rove can find his way to your studio to answer questions…why can’t he find his way to congress? I trust the several subpoenas he was sent included the correct address. Until he answers those questions, nothing of what he has to say interests me.

Over the years I have looked to the “Roundtable” for an element of civility in the discourse. Regardless of the viewpoint, respectful discussion occurred. Today’s group was very disappointing. Participants who talk over each other demonstrate our worse instincts, and exactly what is wrong with Washington, and politics.
Shame on ABC for tossing this particular group together.

With Karl and Katrina participating in the same conversation, fireworks were sure to fly. Before it began, I pretty much knew Karl would be ready with his backup arguments (and he was) and I also knew Katrina probably wouldn’t let him skate by (she didn’t). I seen the anger in her eyes at his barefaced lies and I am inspired by people like Katrina. She really cares! Karl is just interested in winning the argument. She was interested in making sure he didn’t lie to the viewers. Thank you Katrina. And George, I hope you continue with this format. Wonderful!

Karl Rove just gets half of the picture. He came up with his own accounting of how much George Bush racked up to wreck the economy. The other half he has not accounted for is the cost of fixing up the mess he helped to create. It now turns out that it is going to take a lot more to fix the problem than to create it. By screwing up so bad, George Bush and Karl Rove just gave President Obama a chance to fix the problem his way.
Mr. Rove, tough luck! That is just the way democracy works. You just have to spend time in the woodshed and lick your wounds. By the time they heal, we will all know by then whether President Obama succeeded or not. If he did not, it would only prove that your mess was just a smaller one. But it will definitely not put you on the right side of the ledger.

Why punish the hardest workers to help the lazy? Do people still reap what they sow? In America everyone has the oportunity to do well;however, only they can choose this. This is where the problem lies. Too few choose the path to success. Now others must not only pay for their needs but also of those who chose not to bother.

ABC has sunken to a new low and has lost my viewership. Hiring someone who is a probable criminal in various ways who thinks he is above the law by ignoring congretional supoena’s is not only absurd but unworthy of being paid to comment on anything American! I expected better of ABC.

I loved it!
It was great to have the Anti-Christ in the room with the Obama-ites! Wow!
Great, just great!
Whatever side you’re on, it was just great theatre.
And for all of those who have an ax to grind with Karl Rove; stop your bitching and get over it! Grow up!

I HAVE BEEN A FAITHFUL ‘THIS WEEK’ WATCHER SINCE GEORGE ARRIVED, AND BECAUSE I TIVO IT HAVE NEVER MISSED A WEEK, BUT TODAY’S INTRODUCTION OF CARL ROVE TO THE ROUNDTABLE IS MORE THAN I AM WILLING TO ACCEPT. THIS MAN SHOULD BE IN JAIL FOR MORE OFFENSES THAN ANYONE OF US CAN COUNT. HIS APPEARANCE SOMEHOW SEEMS TO CONVEY HE AND HIS PAST HAVE MERIT. IF HE CONTINUES TO APPEAR ON THE PANEL I HAVE TO ASSUME ABC, GEORGE S, AND THE SPONSORS OF ‘THIS WEEK’ CONSIDER HIS POSTURING TO HAVE VALUE, AND CONDONE HIS PAST AND THE EFFECT OF HIS ARCHITECTURE WE ARE EXPERIENCING TODAY. HE IS A DESPICABLE PERSON WHO HAS NOTHING OF VALUE TO OFFER TO THOSE OF US WHO LOOK TO ‘THIS WEEK’ FOR CREDITABLE DEBATE OF THE ISSUES WE FACE EVERYDAY AND INSIGHT INTO BELTWAY THINKING. HIS INCLUSION IN THE ROUNDTABLE IS AN INSULT TO THE OTHER PARTICIPANTS. INSTEAD OF DEBATING THE MERITS OF TODAYS ISSUES THEY ARE TAINTED BY HIS PRESENCE. ANY FUTURE APPEARANCE BY THIS MAN WILL SIGNAL TO ME THAT MY TIME AND MONEY (SPONSORS)CAN BE BETTER SPENT ELSEWHERE. (WILLIAM’S WIFE) DANA

I am so disappointed!! Our family faithfully attends Sunday Church services and then we faithfully also look forward to your weekly show and especially the views expressed on the Round Table. I believe it was so disrespectful to have Karl Rove on that panel; he is not credible, ethical, moral, etc. What a terrible disservice to the Round Table. I do believe you owe the viewing public an apology for
giving this evil man an opportunity to
be representative of America’s beliefs and values.

I loved seeing Karl Rove on the show this morning. He adds a new perspective backed up by facts. Congratulations to ABC for not being afraid to let a conservative voice his opinion. Someone should tell Van der Heuvel that the election is over.

Your selection of Mr. Rove as a spokesman for the Republicans was a mistake.
He brought to ABC the same characteristics he displays on Fox:
1. Not telling the truth He said the deficits under Bushes eight years totaled $2.9 trillion. Not true, the debt grew $4.9 trillion per the U.S. Treasury website. (Rove must have excluded Iraq and other supplemental appropriations.)
2. Tax Cuts Rove said Obama talked about cutting taxes for 95% of Americans and did not say he would raise taxes on the top 5%. False, Obama said again and again he would pay for the tax cuts by raising taxes on those earning $250,000 or more. How could Rove forget what had been repeated so often?
3. Drowning out others’ voices. When others tried to say something that Rove did not want your audience to hear, her tried to drown them out like O’Reilly and Hannity frequently do on FOX. ABC should have guests that allow all guests to be heard.
ABC can do better!

jane… you must be from Mars! The troubled states were RED until 11/2008!
Michigan is in a depression! Ohio and Indiana are running a close second. Then, let’s discuss Pennsylvania. Nah, discussion would be impossible from your side – totally a right winger that thinks the Republican party is the only one that can do anything ‘right’ in our Country!

I agree. Can Rove. Instead let’s invite:
1. Robert Rubin, former Clinton Treasury Secretary, former Senior Advisor to Citigroup, now America’s largest publicly owned financial institution, who upon resignation stated :
“My great regret is that I and so many of us who have been involved in this industry for so long did not recognize the serious possibility of the extreme circumstances that the financial system faces today.”
2. Franklin Raines former Clinton head of OMB, found guilty of Accounting fraud while FNMA CEO for mistating earings by billions (so he could receive inflated bonuses)
3. Dan Mudd, former member of Obama’s election committee, also former FNMA CEO, who under his stewardship aggressively increased FNMA’s exposure to Subprime and Alt-A loans (and now we see where this has gotten us, taxpayers have now assumed and an additional $5T of GSE debt).
4. Angelo Mozilo, former Countrywide CEO, the largest private originator of MBS, whose largest customer was FNMA, democratic sweetheart, who provided kick-backs to Raines, Mudd, Dodd, and Franks.
Better yet, turn on MSNBC where we can all sing Kumbaya with Olbermann.

Karl ROVE??????? You have to be kidding, George. I do not know what contract you may have with him, but he is a crook, and has no business with a public forum. Lose him, or lose your audience. Having Karl Rove appear with legitimate journalists smacks of the faux news farce of Hannity-Combs. If he doesn’t fit the description of sociopath I don’t know who does. No conscience and no remorse and he’s always right no matter what the facts actually are, spinning reality to suit his purpose. If you want to reduce your show to journalistic satirical comedy you could have him and Limbaugh on at the same time;and, if you ever have Rove on again or even think about legitimizing the likes of Limbaugh I’ll stop watching your program! Please don’t demean legitimate contributors by adding this sort of sideshow to what’s usually a thoughtful discussion.

Today it became another one of the “shouty” political shows that I avoid like the plague. I don’t agree with Karl Rove, but it is how he changed the tenor of your show that I disliked the most today. I will not watch again if he is a guest — or if another guest changes the entire tone like he did today. I think your viewers deserve better.

I for one enjoyed the round table discussion today. Week after week I tune in so that I can get view points from around the political spectrum and felt that This Week had forgot that there was something other than the left wing POV. It has been a long time since I didn’t feel like it was more of a chore to watch. George – Keep the multiple view points coming – our country needs the open debate.

George, I understand that you want to get varying views but Karl Rove should be in jail for exposing a CIA agent not on TV esposing the destructive rhetoric we just voted out. You should get someone responsible that is actually trying to get us out of this mess not the propaganda of the conservative only for the rich republicans.

I can not adequately state how disappointed I am that you would invite Karl Rove to appear on your up-to-now highly respected and anticipated program. Rove did make a few points that the economy did do relatively well considering the tech bubble was popping, then 911, then 2 wars, one of which was unecessary. But they didn’t appear to fix any problems, they merely kept things flowing and now we’re paying the price.

As the chief political advisor to George W. Bush, Karl Rove personified the arrogant contempt for truthfulness and the utter disregard for accountability that plunged our country into the economic and diplomatic free-falls that are the legacy of the Bush presidency. How is it that a man of such titanic dishonor can leverage his resume of shame for a second career as a media commentator? And how is it that This Week would make itself complicit in this travesty by offering Rove a seat at the Roundtable? I was as incensed from my viewer’s chair as Katrina vanden Heuvel was from her seat across the table from this villain (“Call me Karl”, indeed!).

I watched part of the show, but Rove continually interupted and talked over others and George let him get away with it so I switched to Meet the Press only to have Joe Scarborough doing the same thing.
It was just astounding how Rove defended George Bush’s record on the economy. How did he come up with $2.6 or $2.8 trillion as the amount Bush added to the national debt? Bush insisted that the projected *surplus* of trillions of dollars had to be “returned” to the taxpayers by lowering taxes with the wealthiest getting the biggest breaks. Then he added over $5 tillion to the national debt and was still complaining that his tax cuts weren’t made permanent. His policies nearly caused a deflationary spiral while simultaneously causing a long term inflation problem – no small feat. Then Rove claims that Bush had it rough because he started out with all the problems of the dot com bubble which caused an extremely mild recession. The entire country would rejoice if we had the economy that George Bush inherited.
It is amazing that Rove actually believes the words the proudly come out of his mouth. If he had any sense of the destruction the Bush administrtion caused to the economy, he would avoid being seen in public much less on national TV.

Wow – I’m exhausted. I have never seen the hostility at a higher level than it was on today’s show. As usual, George Will, supported today by Karl Rove, provided well reasoned logic and facts. Kartina Vander Heuval is absolutely brilliant. PLEASE have her as a regular member of the panel as much as her schedule allows. She was able to penetrate the dishonest veiled Rove rhetoric. His style of fascist control is no challenge for her articulate interpretation of multiple subjects.
When she speaks, gone are the detached Rove references to the problems of our country that are faceless. She talks about the American families and their hardships during this historic economic downturn. We are people, we are not the problems.

I knew that there was a reason I left California after living there for over 50 years. If this country is so bad, why not move away?.
I get so tired of all of these liberal whack jobs criticizing everything they see when they have never had to make a payroll, relied on someone else with some ingenuity or moxie to make something happen and rely on the government to solve all of their problems.
Katrina is so far out of the mainstream it is scary. This is my first time on this blog and I was going to tell George that having Katrina on here was a waste of time. She is so disingenious but I guess I am outnumbered on this blog. Heck, out of over 200 posts there are at all of about 30 unique names, the same people who don’t know that Scooter Libby was the one convicted of a crime…oh yes….giving conflicting testimony when he didn’t have to since neither he nor Rove outed the CIA agent, it was Richard Armitage who didn’t have the guts to admit it.
What that represents about .001% of the viewers of this show.
Not that I don’t think that Bush did a great job with letting Wall Street run wild on unregulated lending or made the best decisions on going to war, but to call Rove a criminal yet look the other way when Turbo Tax Geitner tries to get away without paying taxes and Daschle makes $5,000,000 after leaving the Senate lobbying yet Obama says “oh I won’t nominate any lobbyists”, he is just as hypocritical as the rest.
If you don’t think that the lobbyists are making a killing trying to reach in for a piece of their killing in these trillions passing through the government’s hands, you are all hopeless.
The government has never run any business successfully and never will. All of you drones that want something for free and don’t have the imagination or the energy to make something of yourselves deserve what you get, a life where you are praying that the government will be there for the next check, or the next handout.
Look at the legislature of every state that is going broke. All democratically controlled. Even if South Carolina has a higher unemployment rate, the state is still solvent. More than can be said for the “smart states” like New York, New Jersey, California, Illinois, Florida.
Interesting that the only large red state, Texas, is not crying for a handout.
You might think that Katrina won some battle, even though she is light on the facts, but as obnoxious as you though Rove was, he was right on the numbers, Obama is looking to increase debt more in 20 months than Bush bumbled to increase it by in 8 years.
Let’s see what happens in 2 years when inflation is 12% per year and you can’t get healthcare because it is being rationed to you. I doubt if you will say you were wrong.

I have been a faithful viewer of “This Week” for several years. However, after watching Karl Rove for about 5-10 minutes, I couldn’t stand it any more and changed the channel to “Meet The Press.” With all the news of this past week, all Karl wanted to do was defend the Bush administration. He consistently talked over people and didn’t allow others an opportunity to discuss anything. I kept thinking it would get better, but it didn’t. If Karl Rove is on again, I don’t plan to watch a minute of it. I also wholeheartedly agree with the other posters that his appearance adds credibility to a man who certainly does not deserve it.

To GOP = Destruction:
You lost another one. I don’t love Ann Coulter because she makes her points (many of which are valid) in a manner that is unnecessary and unproductive. In other words, she gives her opposition a reason to criticize her when she doesn’t need to but she wants to sell books.
It’s too bad that you can’t think for yourself such that you have to mimic the point that Katrina (a fitting name) tried to make with no evidence of what the heck she was talking about. The Democrats are the ones that want to cut a military or intelligence budget, not Republicans. What job(s) is the Federal Government MANDATED to do that they are being criticized for not doing yet money would change it? Would it be regulating Wall Street? Not a money issue, it was a policy issue. Bernie Madoff? He started in 1991 under Clinton an got away with it for 17 years. Wasn’t money, it was incompetence at the SEC. The government increased by over 40% in the 8 years under Bush. More money thown at stuff than, in retrospect, should have been thrown at it. What else…you guys are long on sound bites and short on facts.
Also, I just learned that the poll that George cited this morning about 73% of Americans approving of Obama at this time was taken before he announced all of this new budget stuff that is taking us down the drain. Rasmussen, a much more respected and accurate poll says that Obama’s popularity has dropped 14 points since announcing this budget. He has only a +8 strongly approve over strongly disapprove rating at this time.
Mike Murphy on MTP said it best this morning. If Obama had told Congress that they needed to take a more moderate approach to the stimulus such that more Republicans would have signed on, he would have forever neutered the conservative movement. By letting the people get “Pelosi-ed”, he gave them new life. He has already shown that he was talking out of both sides of his mouth on Iraq during the campaign. Fortunately, he upset even Katrina and Code Pink. Why doesn’t Katrina go on assignment in Iraq with a stop in Afghanistan on the way back and hang out in Gaza for a while before she has us bringing back all of the service people that WANT to be there?
By the way, can anyone explain why the re-enlistment rate in the military is up 45% and the recruitments are up by double digits as well? Maybe its because people believe the military is a noble profession. Just another little tidbit that Katrina fails to notice or observe.

So many people so indignant that George had Karl Rove on. What’s the big deal. Just another point of view. You can say you don’t agree with him but to threaten not to watch because he doesn’t serve your flavor of Kool-Aid? What a sad day. Thank goodness that you only represent about .001% of the viewers. I will bet that all of you are supporters of the fairness doctrine.
What will happen when they decide they want to pass it and Keith Olberman or anyone at NBC or MSNBC has to have an opposing viewpoint on the same show? Bet you didn’t think of that one, although its funny how you all refer to the Faux Network. If you were to ever watch it and see how misinformed you really are. Believe it or not, they regularly have opposing viewpoints on their shows even if the show is hosted with a predisposition towards one particular viewpoint.
Not only that when they quote “polls” they tell you which one it was and when it was taken. There is a big difference between the Media Matters poll and the Rasmussen Poll.
I like George’s show but he could have balanced the sides a little better. Sam and Cokey are a lot more mainstream than Katrina and Stan. But then again, Stan is an accomplished strategist…he helped Al Gore and John Kerry, two resounding winners. Helped Tony Blair also…..wasn’t he for the war in Iraq?

Mr. Stephanopoulus
ABC News
This Week Show
Something went very, very wrong on your show today and I really need an explanation.
I have watched your show since it started, have enjoyed your ability to present the most balanced view of this world one can find and I thank you for that. Today I learned that your show must have trouble selling advertising or that the shows integrity has fallen to that of Fox.
As this mornings show started and I saw Karl Rove was there I thought this should be an interesting view on things. Well, I stopped those thoughts as soon as spoke. Then I started to recall that this guy thinks he is above the law with “Executive Privilege” avoiding a Congressional subpoena. He helped manipulate, fabricate and propagandize information that hijacked our Constitution, held hostage anyone in Congress or the media that disagreed with him, helped pave the way to the deaths of thousands. He needs to answer for his involvement in past Administrations malicious acts and you put him on a stage that anoints him to be legitimate? Road apples.
Some one from your show needs to do some explaining here.
Post script: I’m not even a damn Democrat and I feel this way.

GOP = Destruction
Typical liberal, postulate a hypothesis and when questioned, ignore it and answer with some unrelated, irrelevant piece of information.
What about New York – Elliot Spitzer, AIG, Bernard Madoff; Illinois – Blagojevich, Ryan, Rostenkowski; New Jersey – McGreevey, Abramoff; Louisiana – William Jefferson; Mississippi – Bernie Ebbers, MCI; New Hampshire – Dennis Koslowski,Tyco…..on and on and on…..So what’s your point?

All of those together does not compare to the destruction cause by Bush, Rove and the republicans. They cut taxes for the wealthy who did not need it. They started war with Iraq giving no bid contracts to their cronies. The handcuffed federal agencies from do there jobs, thus endangering americans health and wealth. They politicized the Justice Dept by firing u.s. attorneys for political reasons. They prosecuted and jailed the democratic governor of Alabama. Bush looted the treasury to the point that we might not recover in this generation. But so how you still support Bush, Rove and republicans. Are you crazy or do you just play crazy on the internet?

The Bush GOP posse sat by while a major American city drowned. They sat by while the American economy drowned. They sat by while our foreign policy drowned. They made oodles of money and give themselves pats on the back, but they da.n near killed America.

George what were you thinking putting Karl Rove on your show?!! Do you really thing that someone who helped create the current dire state of the economy is a credible person to comment on it?!!! Shame on you for supplying a platform for him to attempt to remake himself as a respected senior political statesman! If you thought he would be an exciting controversial guest that I would want to listen to, you were wrong. I hope he won’t be invited back to participate in your round table again because I have no interest in wasting my time listening to him.
Posted by: Melanie, Santa Barbara | March 2, 2009, 2:01 am 2:01 am
This Week’s Round Table is traditionally a very reliable source of informed debate and one of the last vestiges of legitimate televised journalism. Having Karl Rove as a member of the Round Table greatly diminishes the legitimacy of the show and ABC News.
Mr. Rove is a brilliant man who speaks very eloquently and persuasively. He has an almost doctorly gravitas that make his arguments almost irresistible.
Unfortunately he is tragically misguided and has used his great political skills to the benefit of the neo-conservative movement and the detriment of everyone else. He orchestrated the most destructive US presidency in our history, encouraged foreign and fiscal policies that have left the whole world in turmoil and when it looked like things were finally catching up with him he left Bush Jr. holding the bag.
I understand that ABC must cater to a very diverse audience but that ABC News would stoop to the level of Fox “News” and give this unconvicted felon a stage completely trivializes his deeds.
ABC News is no longer a part of the solution and legitimizing Carl Rove makes it squarely part of the problem.
Where’s David Brinkley when you need him?

please have katrina Vanden Heuvel on more often–it was great to see someone knowledgeable stand up and shut up the old B.S.masters of the GOP who got us in this mess.

George, please do not invite Rove to site at your roundtable ever again. I tune into This Week to listen to intelligent, polite discussion. Rove is a rude, dishonest propaganda artist, and he makes it aversive to watch the roundtable. Besides, he should be in prison, not on television.
Posted by: Ken | March 2, 2009, 4:32 am 4:32 am
Well,George. I hope it’s pretty clear about having Rove on your show. What was somebody thinking? Rove’s badgering technique reveals a psychotic man who knows he’s a loser, an emotional pigmy. His persistent psychobabble would wear down the horns on a billy goat. Please put him out to pasture. He had his chance to fix things.

To let Rove have this stage is a problem. To let Rove run wild with his commentary and allow him to use “Hannityesc” techniques and spew his venom by constant interruption is a disgrace. Couple your show with a similar display by Scarborough on “Meet the Press” and it tells us we REALLY need newspapers. OMG … SAVE THE WRITTEN WORD!

This is so ionsane and weird…so someone will let go of say 100K income in order not to pat 5000 more in taxes? I dont think thats true…I think ABC is interviewing people who make 250K to 255K range…
Also I love the lawer saying she will stop “helping” the people/…Hmm when you take money for advise thats business to me..

No, Will was off by a factor of 1000. It would take about 73 days of spending a billion an hour to add up to 1.75 trillion dollars.

If you want to see Karl Rove gone from “This Week,” it’s easy to get rid of him. Just boycott the show. Watch “Meet the Press” or “Face the Nation” instead. The only reason Stephanopolis brought this fat, pompous tyrant on the show was to increase ratings. Once the ratings go down, Karl will be gone.

Dear George,
Peter Orszag should get some schooling from the Treasury’s IRS branch when talking about charitible donations. Under current tax law, if Bill Gates donated $1,000 to charity, my guess is that $800 of it would be phased out and the $200 deduction would translate to a no more than $70 tax reduction.
As a 5%er, I’d welcome a $280 tax reduction on my $1,000 chariable donation. Much of my donations are not showing up on my tax return!

George & ABC
Please don’t tell me that you are considering Rove as a regular panel member! That “bleep” should be in jail (along with a few more that were in the White House) for all his illegal and immoral dirty works including manufacturing or at the very least supporting bad intelligence to sell the need for war. He and his “friends” are responsible for a lot of the mess we are now experiencing. The man is pure evil.

Did I miss something? I was watching the show and then saw that Rove was going to be on. With all of the stuff said about him on the media, I was curious as to what he would say. But it seemed to me that Rove did not get to say much, Katrina just kept jumping in and babling. I think she talked more than anybody at the roundtable. She just would not shut up. Bad moderating by George. It seemed to me that Rove listened to the others rant, but when it came time for him to speak,
Katrina jumped in every time. I did not hear anything intelligent come out of her. She did do a lot of Bush bashing though.

Oh my gosh George!!
I have neer had so much fun with your show ever!! Katrina ripped it up! It was so fun to watch progressive rightousness with a command of the facts. Can’t go wrong when you have that. Stanley was pretty rippin’ too!
If I were your, whatever, agent or producer, and I would look like Fay Dunaway in Network. Lord have mercy, do you know what the country is hungry for? Having people come on television and tell it like it is. I don’t want the usual suspects, I want gladiator stuff like this!! I mean whoooshh..ROVE IS UNDER THE TABLE GLARING INTO KATRINA”S LOVELY RETURN GLARE.
This man is in contempt of CONGRESS. He is going to be perp walked someday; I can’t get enough of it. Look at this message board it is steaming.
Keep it up George and you could take Sunday away for ratings.
Nothing is more powerful than an idea that has found its time. The public is mad. We had an amazing election. Check out the rightous anger out there. It is not just from the right nor from the left. It is from the people. We are in two wars. Our fathers, brothers, sisters and mothers, sons and daughters are out there fighting and dying. Our jobs are in peril or gone. We have lost most of our savings in this economy. We need healthcare that doesn’t wipe us out. We have spent it all on Blackwater, Halliburton, and all the other companies that have walked away with our wealth. We have spent trillions and now we must spend more to dig us out. The budget hasn’t been a measurement of the true costs of this war and now we must hear the same old tired rhetoric again. I just want the far right to keep showing us their faces so we can keep a clear vision of where we are going. Which is away from them. They are dangerous. They feel their ideology is more important than people. More important than the country. Who claims patriotism and then wishes for the downfall of a nation? The Republicans, I guess.

Sir:
Watching Karl Rove was just as bad as I had anticipated. What were you thinking to invite this man who, unlike George Will, cannot disagree without being disagreeable. ? Rove tried to do what he has found successful over the past eight years with the country and that is, if you talk loud enough, are rude to the rest of the citizenry, keep shouting that Republicans have the only answer, people are tired of he and his ilk as the November Election proved.
This is from a FORMER Republican who, being moderate , did not have a place at the GOP table, and consequently in 1992 left the party. The past two years I have been a Democratic Precinct Chair .
Please reconsider having “call me Karl” on your Sunday show which my wife and I have watched weekly since you became the host.
We had considered you a fair moderator until you let KR run unchecked over the rest of the panelists.
It was only after Katrina V K called his bluff and debated like an intelligent informed civilized person, that the program began to right itself.

Though it would be good to have another conservative voice besides will at the roundtable — Rove is not the person glad Katrina was on as well to put him down a notch, although I didn’t watch it all as usual — watched Peter Orsig and some roundtable, I just cannot get past the incompetance of the Bush administration and the fact that Karl was a big part of it. I am thankfully now a recovering Republican after 40 years and in Obama’s corner. Rush Limbaugh as the voice OMG deliver us all.

Having Rove on the panel legitimizes a criminal bully that is in contempt of Congress. Inexcusable of This Week. Having Gingrich on only showcased Newt’s lack of understanding as he droolingly grinned while Robert Reiche patiently tried to explain economic reality. Priceless.

Although I am LEFT of center, I enjoy listening to George Will – he offers a reasoned and informative point of view and I like knowing how the other side thinks Including Karl Rove was a mistake! He elucidated nothing and just tried to drown out the other side. He made it impossible to actually follow a conversation – BAD TELEVISION as well as bad manners. Karl Rove is in no way a legitimate voice for any side of an issue. He is a conniving sociopath who was brought on to the program to boost ratings, like a deadly snake might. What business does he have to tell this country what he thinks about the economy?? He is a charlatan who was the “architect” who led this country over the cliff. Shame on you for turning your back on legitimate debate.

listen people, nobody gives a rat’s ass about you or your political views; so shut up about Karl Rove already, GET OVER IT! The reason the economy is in this state is because of bad loans, people who won’t pay their bills, and the community reinvestment act that forced banks to make loans to people who couldn’t afford them! It was an affirmative action loan program and it FAILED! It was put in place by Democracts! People like Congresswoman Maxine Waters! She sure makes me feel like we’re in good hands! Right!

George S.,I tend to watch ABC News’ “This Week” less and less since you have been anchoring the program. Allowing someone like Karl Rove a speaking platform to issue commentary and advice on President Obama’s economy policies is like all financial programs giving Bernard Madoff a Network platform to comment and advise Americans on stock trading and finance. What are you thinking, George? Rove, like Madoff, is dishonest, conniving and criminal. By allowing him on you program, you give the wolf a sheep’s garment to deceive. Now, what does that makes you, George? At the very least, irresponsible. But are you also aiding and abedding Rove’s deception, dishonesty, etc? I miss David Brinkley. I doubt he would have allowed this.

George,
Giving Karl Rove a platform so soon after the end of the Bush admin. was a huge mistake. The visceral feelings of so many disappointments are still so fresh, and Rove represents them just as much as Cheney and Bush do. I’ll have to take some time off of This Week – as much as I love it.
See you in a few weeks.

As a football fan, I remember last fall when Matt Millen (the recently fired General Manager of the Detroit Lions) was hired as a commentator by NBC Sports. He was the genius that put together the first team in NFL history to go 0-16. NBC Sports met with ridicule for hiring Millen to give his “expert” opinion after his utter failure with the Lions. Ditto the ridicule to “This Week” and Mr. Rove.

For a rare instance one of the alphabet news agencies has someone on that comes at these stuff shirt liberals like Vander Heuvel with facts and the liberals squeal like stuck pigs. But when the facts started getting in the way Greenberg would meet it with intelligence like “the people have spoke, the people have spoke”. If you go back and watch the tape the little weasel was on the edge of his seat with his mouth open trying to utter something. I was laughing my ass off. ABC made a huge mistake by giving Karl Rove a public platform to spew his hatred and lies. Rove is a criminal who snubs Congress, refuses to testify on the crimes he is believed to have committed in the White House, and thinks he is above the law. The only place he should be is in jail or in court testifying about his actions. I love This Week, but ABC made a huge mistake inviting this scumbag onto its show and tacitly giving him legitimacy. Looks like the liberals just don’t like it when a ‘Strong Conservative’ talks back.
They are just SO used to getting their way on the major networks that they just can’t take it when someone else gets to speak (this also speaks to just how tolerant of others they really are, but I thought they were the world’s most tolerant class — some Myths are easily exposed).
Looks like some of the liberals here are trying to Intimidate ABC into only having guests they approve of .
Are they used to getting away with such ??!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Da Truth | March 3, 2009, 2:16 pm 2:16 pm
Not only are liberals used to getting their way but they are used to having the media trot out people like Andrew Sullivan from the Log Cabin Republicans to be the lone conservative spokesman. Never mind there are a dozen other conservatives they could bring on. Glenn Beck, Laura Ingram, Berney Goldberg, Ben Stein are just a few examples. Of the course the silver spoons would never dare bring on people like that because they know that they would get the crap kicked out of them in a debate. But of course the liberals would only here what they want to here. They are so heavly invested in big government they would never acknowledge the real truth. The fact the America has been and still is the best counrty in the world because of the founding fathers ideals of low taxation and capitolism. Ever ask your self why the U.S. is light years ahead of anyone else in the world when other civilizations like Europe and Asia are thousands of years older than we. It is because of the afformentioned principles. If feel like I’m watching the Titanic and the Dems are the orchestra that keeps playing as the ship sinks. They will never acknowledge the obvious.

I really enjoy the political give and take on The Round Table. However, there are political figures who no longer have any credibility given their track record and Karl Rove is one of them. The show devolved into Karl talking over everyone else and lost its civility. I truly hope he will not be a regular on the show.

I look forward to your show and especially the round table, but I hope to never see Karl Rove there again. That man should be in prison, not on the round table.

I always look forward to hearing the round table but was disappointed this past Sunday because during the many times that Mr. Rove interrupted and talked over the other speakers, it was difficult to hear what any of them were saying. It seems that some ground rules are in order for the round table. Flagrant violators should not be invited back since they
turn tuning in to the show a pointless exercise.

I was so discouraged and disappointed to see Karl Rove on your show. In our household he is just a a war criminal not an alternative or controversial perspective. He has had his time and we are all paying the price. Why give him more time now? Thank goodness for Katrina Vanden Heuvel—someone who has the guts to stare evil in the face and the smarts to take him on. Even with Katrina, we doubt we will continue to watch if Rove comes back. Why not find a fresh face and new voice, and not someone who scares and sickens us?

I was so disappointed to see Karl Rove as a member of the roundtable. If he is ever a part of your show again, I will simply turn to another channel. He is rude, has no regard for the law of this or any other land and, hello, has refused to testify befor congress. This is not the kind of role model that deserves airtime on ANY program. I have always been a loyal viewer, in fact, my husband (a nasty republican)calls George “your boy George.” Although I am old enough to be George’s mother, he is obviously not “my boy” and I will not hesitate to change channels if Mr. Rove is ever on the program again. His attempts to rewrite history are also unforgiveable. Along with Rush Limbaugh (the confessed drug addict) he has no credibility whatsoever. Please don’t invite him back.

I was more than shocked to see Karl Rove at the roundtable. I never miss the Sunday morning news shows and will rethink ABC for weeks if not months to come. I expect credible, honest debate on Sunday mornings. I do not need my views supported or represented. I do however feel that credibility and honesty are lacking where Karl Rove is concerned and for 8 long years, his voice has been heard loud and clear….ie….Sunday was proof that if you keep telling lies long enough, even more lies will become truth.
Karl Rove has had his time in the spot light and this country has suffered greatly as a result!!! This is way more than adding insult to injury!!! It’s just plain wrong.

I was very disappointed to see Karl Rove on this program. I admit to being liberal. I rarely agree with George Will. However, allowing Karl Rove on this program and to monopoloize the debate on the economy was the last straw. Karl Rove is out trying to rewrite the history of the last 8 years. His policies have nearly destroyed the economy, the environment and resulted in a tremendous loss of life in Iraq and Katrina. I am voting with my remote control and will be switching to Meet the Press. I hope the people on that news hour are not pseudo-news.
Posted by: karenk | March 3, 2009, 9:44 pm 9:44 pm
will you people listen to yourselves!
His policies destroyed the environment? What exactly did he destroy? The economy? Which bank did he run into the ground? Citibank? Clinton’s former US Treasurer was on the board of directors as the ship was burning and going down! Tremendous lose of life. Freddie and Fannie Mae? Both guys running were Democrats. Ask Barnie Frank how well these institutions were doing last year…Get over yourselves! And I hope you people stop watching This Week; it doesn’t need a bunch of narrow minded, neo-socialist, leftie-loonies anyway.

Geez,
Until Manny clocked in I thought I was in Liberal hell. It cracks me up how Rove is the ultimate boogey man to these people. Keep bringing him on George it makes for lively debate. The only thing better would be somebody like Maureen Dowd on the show. You could seat her on the same side of the table with Vander Shnitzel. What a couple of jilted Vasser school girls that team could be. It would be great to sit there and watch their sorry asses get drubbed by people like Ben Stein or Bernard Goldberg. Of course we will never see it. Wouldn’t be good for business. If you people would like to see a real show on Sunday mornings tune in to Chris Wallace. The rest are rank amateurs.

I’ve been a fan of the show a long time and while it might just be reality, it seems unfortunate that ABC considers the program “entertainment.” Even for ABC, having this scumbag Carl Rove on the air was a new low; especially for a respectable program as This Week. Was Charles Manson unavailable? There have to be other compelling experts whose opinions matter. The nation is trying to heal from the last administration, I think it’s a bit early to be picking scabs. Rove personifies the shameless, careless audacity he helped formulate and it’s disgraceful to see him banter in the company of thoughtful and thought-provoking panelists. I wouldn’t want to see him express (or defend) himself ever again on this program unless it was prior to his on-air lynching.

Gee, George, why do you attract all of the big-mouthed, far-left, liberal extremists to your blog?!?!

Looks like we have yet another open minded liberal in Steve. I love when their hatred trumps their ideology. What a joke!

Some people think Bill Clinton should be in prison (yet he’s out & about on the streets — & some talk shows).
Rham Emanuel — “Never waste a Good Crisis” (with an attitude like that maybe he should be barred from news shows)………………. Is that what the Demi-Dems are doing; Taking total advantage of this crisis with ‘Tons’ of Social Programmies, that they hope will live in Perpetuity.

Dems like Taxes, except when they have to pay them.
Several of them should be in Prison,………….and certainly not in a government position.
However, several of them have been on news shows and a couple are in Obum’s cabinet.

Liberal Mindset — Why pay attention to Facts when there is Politics to be waged !!!
Posted by: Da Truth | March 4, 2009, 2:00 pm 2:00 pm
When someone describes themselves as “Da Truth” it is fairly evident that the truth is not what the individual is interested in. You accuse the democrats as exploiting a crisis to impose their agenda and of playing politics. One would ask what did the Republicans do following 9/11. There was an opportunity to unite the nation and the world behind American interests that was squandered by Cheney and Rove since they had an agenda of deceiving us into a war and passing tax cuts primarily for wealthiest few. Yet you suggest several Democrats should go to prison. What universe do you reside in?

Wow, keep Rove coming. Ratings will go up. It’s about time a “mainstream” media outlet has a conservative with “hutzpa” to speak some truth. I’ll watch every week G, if you have Karl on the show.

Is Rove going to be on the roundtable now? If he is I’m not watching any more.

“What universe do you reside in?” – question from our local genius.
Answer – A more intelligent one than you !!
…………….
“There was an opportunity to unite the nation and the world behind American interests that was squandered by Cheney and Rove since they had an agenda of deceiving us into a war” — comment from our local genius.
Bush, Cheney & Rove saw a modern Day Hitler for what he was, and preempted him (should the original Hitler have been preempted !!). You libbies and much of the world are Clueless !!!!!

George, If you want to see your ratings tank, invite this fat #$@% on your show again.

I love how Rove prefaces his remarks “with all due respect…”
As if anyone wants his respect.
I thought she would tell him to shove his “respect” straight up his @$$.

If you must have Karl Rove at the round table, please ALWAYS have Kartina Vander Heuval there too. She was FABULOUS!!!! Her comments to him were what we all have been thinking for the duration of the Bush administration.

I turned on my tv, took one look at who was on (the male) and switched channels.
Keep up the good work.
Seriously, what was that guy doing on my TV?

Katrina vanden Heuvel is vacuous and simply parrots liberal mantras. She adds nothing to the debate and does so with repugnant self-righteousness. I simply can’t watch her.
