Palin Slams Obama’s ‘Degrading Remark’

ABC News’ Kate Snow reports: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has joined the chorus of those who were not amused by President Obama’s bowling joke when he appeared Thursday on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno." "I was shocked to learn of the comment made by President Obama about Special Olympics," Palin said in a written statement issued Friday.  "This was a degrading remark about our world’s most precious and unique people, coming from the most powerful position in the world." Palin’s son Trig was born last April 18 with Down syndrome.  While campaigning for Vice President last fall, Palin mentioned Trig at nearly every stop. Call it political opportunism or call it a valid critique of the President.  Either way, in the statement today, Palin was quite direct. "These athletes overcome more challenges, discrimination and adversity than most of us ever will.  By the way, these athletes can outperform many of us and we should be proud of them.  I hope President Obama’s comments do not reflect how he truly feels about the special needs community." At the White House today, spokesman Robert Gibbs apologized again for the joke. "I know that the president believes that the Special Olympics are a triumph of the human spirit. And I think he understands that they deserve a lot better than the thoughtless joke that he made last night. And he apologizes for that." It was common at Palin’s campaign rallies in 2008 to see children with disabilities and their parents — small heads sticking out of baby slings or tiny faces peering up at the stage from a stroller. Many were children with Down syndrome.  Some were certainly Special Olympians. "You bring your sons and daughters with you, because you are proud of them, as I am of my son," Palin said at a Pittsburgh event last October.  "My little fella sleeps during most of these rallies, even when they get pretty rowdy. He would be amazed to know how many folks come out to see him instead of me," she said. At the time, Palin pledged that she would be an advocate for children with disabilities if she reached Washington. "Too often, even in our own day, children with special needs have been set apart and excluded," Palin said in October. "Too often, state and federal laws add to their challenges instead of removing barriers and opening new paths of opportunity. Too often, they are made to feel that there is no place for them in the life of our country, that they don’t count or have nothing to contribute." "This attitude is a grave disservice to these beautiful children, to their families, and to our country — and I will work to change it," she added.

There she goes again…..putting her children in her Mess………Eat a Mooseburger, and charge rape victims for their kits. Anyone with a brain knows that the “most powerful man on earth” didn’t say this out of malice, or indifference. He has apologize for the gaffe…….sorry, Palin the opportunist…….go and read!

Palin is probably one of the most the degrading things I have ever witnessed. What other developed nation in the world would elect or appoint a greedy, uneducated, stupid fool like Palin to any responsible office? If Palin decides to be an advocate for disabled children – heaven help them.

Seems strange to me that most of the hue and cry has come from the Republican side of the aisle…could it be that they were just waiting to pounce on any misspeaking President Obama might do on Leno’s show? Nah… I honestly don’t think Obama meant anything disparaging about those with special needs when he made that comment. I think he just meant to illustrate that his attempt at bowling wasn’t worthy of participating in Special Olympics, much less the Olympics. Before you all jump on me for making it sound like Special Olympics is a step DOWN from the Olympics, remember that the Special Olympics was created so that individuals with physical/mental challenges and special needs could participate. Many Special Olympics athletes are “awkward” in their performances. I just think Mr. Obama meant to allude to the fact that his bowling performances are “awkward”. Bad choice of words, but not bad enough to skewer him over!

Actually the Odumba presidency, at least thus far, has been the most degrading, incompetent and just plain naive presidency I can ever remember. So please, hold the Kool Aid on the stupidity regarding Palin. She’s not the president! If it were not for TOTUS (teleprompter of the US) Obama will be a continuous bumbling idiot for the whole world to see.
Just look at yesterday’s display of brilliance. First he uses the suicide bomber analogy, then the Special Olympics joke. Where was teleprompter when BHO needed it? Either that, or teleprompter is intentionally doing this to the Messiah….lololol
I’ll bet it will be a cold day in you know where before Barry and teleprompter are seperated again! Best I remember, the stupid Palin didn’t need teleprompter to just talk. That would be our POTUS.

Come on while Obam mis-spoke can you honestly say that if a Republican had made that insensitive remark you libs would not have gien them a pass!
Obama need to stay in Washington and fix all these problems (some of which he created) rather than appear on Leno in the first place!
The campaign is over Barry….get to work!

“Call it political opportunism or call it a valid critique of the President.”
You can call it both.
What Obama said was offensive and he has apologized for it but he should expect those offended to show their disapproval.
What Palin is doing is political grandstanding.

Posted by: Ryan C | March 20, 2009, 6:42 pm 6:42 pm

She did not cut funding for Special Olympics…..!!!
Read something other than KOS orHUffington Compast…..
“Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She didn’t cut it at all. In fact, she increased funding and signed a bill that will triple per-pupil funding over three years for special needs students with high-cost
requirements.”

I wondered how long it would take before La Palin sounded off. The President has apologized for this thoughtless gaffe, and it was thoughtless. When is she going to apologize for the way she used her kids in her campaign, as well as for the current heartless slaughter of wolves and their pups, not by honest sportsmen, but by big brave guys in airplanes? Wonder if Cheney is one of them?

Posted by: BachisBest | March 20, 2009, 6:43 pm 6:43 pm

Palin has no room to talk.. she has cut funds for the special needs people in her own state, and refused stimulus money that would give to those special needs people.
She is just puffing out her chest so she can be in the news again…
She knows we are glad to be rid of her, but she still insists in getting in our face.
Stay in alaska Caribou Barbie… you are not welcomed in the lower 48.

Come on get over it. He was a jerk and should be called such. Palin is well within her right to call him on it. I call him on it. He is acting just like some low life poor black trash Jerk and certainly NOT like presidential quality. I say he should quit campaining and get to work rather than just being “present”. Hell, I could do a better job than he is doing and thats a fact.

Posted by: denise | March 20, 2009, 6:50 pm 6:50 pm

What she should have said is tell the president to quit campaigning, he won. The campaigns over!
He must think his poll numbers are tanking. Going on a talkshow is what a desperate candidate does. Is Obama desperate? I think so.
Obama should have known better. He can’t speak without the First Teleprompter. He knows this. His telepromtper wouldn’t let him stick his foot in his mouth. Although, his teleprompter did prove just how stupid the president is. When Obama thanked himself. Maybe the teleprompter was mad at Obama.

Oh my goodness, you have a good man who is trying to put this country back together and makes a mistake, so crucify him? Get a life. I would bet a large sum of money that every single person here criticizing Obama, including Palin, has let go a racist or sexist remark in their lives – or told a Polish or other ethnic joke. If you’re going to throw rocks, check your own heart first.

Sarah Palin needs to shut up. People are making such a big deal about his comment. Get the f— over it, people! He apologized. Now move on. We’re really sorry you had a baby so late in life, Sarah. It’s common knowledge that older mothers are more at risk for birth defects. So your daughter is a retard. Blame yourself for that one. Get your damn tubes tied.

Posted by: QuackDebbie | March 20, 2009, 7:14 pm 7:14 pm

When will the President finally release a copy of his original birth certificate, instead of just the recently created abstract? It’s just a birth certificate, what could there be to hide. Why would he send lawyers into court to prevent its release? Does anybody know?

America wake up you didn’t elect a saint – what he said is wrong – hurtful and stupid — did he mean it no, I know that and so do you.
My God you could have Clinton in office – or worst, are up for Dodd the fool?
Palin would have been the smart move, not as a vp but as president. But we are not very smart. Tell me what you all think in two years?
Let’s all face facts we need to get rid of all those in office longer than 8 years – they are killing us “America” we just can’t afford these fools any longer tha includes Kennedy the swimmer and pelosi the do nothing – all of them – we have smart people who will work for the people – we don’t have them now.

I have two brothers that are in special olympics and although at first I did find the comments a little distasteful in implying that special olympians are not very good at anything, he did immediately apologize for the in-sincere remarks and has extended his apology to the special olympics community. I respect him for that apology knowing that most republicans would not be so quick in apologizing. He is drawing more attention to special olympics right now (in a good way) than just about any other president has done recently. You have to give him credit for that.
Be careful Obama, there are some special olympians who could beat the pants off of regular people and could easily beat you in a game of bowling.

I’m so tired of everyone having to be ‘politically correct’ in everything they do or say. Everyone is so easily offended. I don’t think for a minute that Palin was truly offended. She just can’t get over her 15 min. of fame.

President did a very good job explain AIG even my husband was able to understand and all you far right nuts can do is point out some negative thing he joked about. Now, Sara the airhead is now trying to capablized on a statement the President made reffering to himself. Most of the viewing didn’t even catch his remark becasue most of us was forcus on his message. But you republicans micro scrope very signle word the President say and just waiting for I got you! Sara Palin you are not match for President Obama in 2012. and the survey have you at last place. She is alway using her kids, but don’t want any body to say anything about them. You are poor white trash with a daughter with a baby out of wedlock, the baby father’s mother is a drug dealer and you were one heart away from being the President. You are a joke at best and now trying to attacking the President becasue you are looking ahead for 2012.

I am so glad Sarah Palin responded. President Obama’s response was inappropriate. He has apologized and it’s all behind us now. But if Sarah Palin hadn’t said something to address the issue, she would have seemed like a hypocrite which she is not. The only thing I can say against Sarah Palin is that she wasn’t ready for the national stage. I wish she could have waited a bit longer before allowing herself to be crucified by brainless, misguided, do nothing, whiners.

Between Biden telling a wheelchair bound man to stand up, and Obama making fun of sped kids the first time he’s untethered to a tele-prompter, this is fun. Add the “I didn’t know about the bonuses – oh wait, yes I did” and it’s becomming entertaining to see Dems get a taste of the scorn they self-righeously heap on others. Am I a republican? No, just a family member of a serviceman.

Posted by: mac819 | March 20, 2009, 7:24 pm 7:24 pm

Let’s all hope that teleprompter is indeed back on the job and through with dirty tricks on our beloved Messiah. That way BHO won’t sound like such an idiot when he speaks, and make those who voted for him look the same way in the process.

Talk about beating a dead horse(or moose I should say) It was a mistake and he apologized. Nobody thinks he hates disabled kids!!The bowling champion from the special olympics said he can beat Obama. At this rate Obama may have to play against him to get the Republicans off his back. LOL

No words are more powerful than those from the person whose life backs it up. Our Creator is glorified by Sarah’s love for her son and those with disabilities. Those who defend the President on this or attack Sarah should examine their own hearts and realize that our freedoms are best used and most God-honoring when we uphold those in need. We are all like Trig or Mephibosheth in a spiritual sense and there is an outstretched hand that invites us to sit at the King’s table (II Samual 9).

Of all the people on Earth who should refrain from commenting on someone else’s gaffes, Sarah Palin, (the human gaffe) leads the parade. A woman who couldn’t stumble through a puff-piece interview or two should not comment on a man who happens to have communications skills she sorely lacks.

True. He hates ALL kids. Which is why he’s burdening them with a projected $9.3 trillion federal debt they can never hope to repay even with total confiscation of their paychecks.

For those who want to “abort” Sarah Palin — nice to know you consider life such a precious thing.
I guess you wouldn’t have any problem with aborting your own child. You’re probably too much of a selfish liberal to even have kids in the first place.
It’s OK for Maria Shriver (you know, a liberal DEMOCRAT Kennedy) to diss the president, but it’s not OK for Sarah Palin who actually has a disabled child not to.
Typical liberal left wing wackos — hypocrites.
Go ahead — praise your boy for now — it will be short lived 4 years filling in as the most failed president in the last 50 years — Jimmy Carter. Obama is Carter’s 2nd term he never had.

I think I just found something that I can believe coming from Sarah Palin. Many people come to see Trig more than they come to see her. I know I’d rather see Trig than Palin. And I really dont’ want to see Trig.
Palin says that some special needs children outperform others as well. In Sarah’s place, I can see where that TOO would be a truth.

When a repub makes a stupid comment, do you liberals say, “oh, just get over it, he didn’t mean anything by it. It was just a gaffe”. I don’t think so. This is a comment that shows how out of touch Obama is. How elitists he is. He’s obviously never seen a special olympics competition or he would have known a lot of those “retards” would kick his butt. He’s all about cool, and he wouldn’t want to have to spend five minutes with somebody who isn’t cool. His babe, Michelle, is just now figuring out military famiies “kind of have it hard”. Duh. What a couple of snotty dipsticks. I will be so glad when we have a chance to boot the both of them out of the white house. And by the Way, Obama didn’t mind hauling his kids around and putting them on t.v. until one of them blurted out about him chewing his nicotine gum. Then he decided it wasn’t such a good idea to have his kids in the spotlight. personally, I don’t think he likes his kids or his wife because he sure seems to want to be anywhere else but at home with them.

Palin really ought to know when to be very quiet. She has portrayed herself and her family as wholesome when in essence she is nothing more than hypocrite. Oh why doesn’t she shut the hell up and stay in Alaska. Nobody with HALF a brain cares what she thinks – or if she does! She has a special needs kid – so what! She is a pitiful excuse for a human. She cut funds for disabled kids, she let her pregnant teenager take care of the baby she claims she is the mother of, and she allowed the child to be traipsed around day and night on a campaign trail when ANYBODY above an IQ of 70 knows that can be damaging. Special needs kids are different – they don’t need that kind of public display. I just wish she would crawl back under her rock and leave everybody alone. Maybe we will get lucky and one of the hungry polar bears will find her!

Did Obama ever apologize for his comments when he was with the elite in CA during the campaign? I don’t think so. Remember the gun totin, Bible reading PA hicks. His remarks about Special Olympics was no error, he is arrogant and got caught on national TV. The only retards I see are the ones using that word. It’s correct now to use the term developmentally disabled. I worked for an organization that hired and housed developmentally disabled persons and believe me they work hard and try harder than anyone I know. Looks like the Pres showed he has no compassion for people with special needs. Maybe he needs to pass a law banning that word like they’ve changed everything else.

I always wonder why the Humane Society did not sue Palin for putting lipstick on a Pit bull and The woman lib. did not chastise Palin for degrading woman as Pit bull !! Anyway we seems to have an Entertainment in Chief as well.
I say I am getting my vote’s worth with Obama so far – a cooool black cat in the White house talking like a human being with all the imperfection of him.

I’ve said it for years, don’t even joke about swatting flies because there is a group out there somewhere dedicated to saving flies!!! I can’t stomach the nonsense people get so worked up about. He made a bad joke (in deprecation to himself) not intending to pick on on our disabled Americans. Oh wait, “Challenged Americans,” “Americans living WITH a disability, not defined by a disability.” I guarantee you this, people with serious disabilities joke about their predicaments all the time. They cope and overcome–with humor. Otherwise life is too hard to bare. Palin should have just said she was disappointed, and left it at that. Instead, she did a grandstanding thing. Typical Republican, false protesting. She must have called Rush for “loud mouth” tips.

C Good… Please give me a break you song as if your developmentally disabled. This country has become a nation of whimps and whinners, The President spoke of himself and did not direct his comments towards any particular group of people… As for Sarah Palin, you used your children as campaign props, try improving your parenting skills before you start speaking!!

1.) On “I can see Russia from my house”: Palin NEVER said this! Tina Fey did as a JOKE! What is it with moronic Democrats who don’t get this?
2.) Palin NEVER charged anyone for rape kits! Again, this is a mean-spirited rumor.
3.) For a woman who’s said that oil companies cannot simply obtain oil leases and pay her off, but have to actually place competitive bids, how does this make her greedy? Considering she was the only one in the election who wasn’t a millionaire, how does this make her greedy?
4.) She completed college. How does this make her uneducated? Does a master’s degree or higher only qualify? A PhD? Funny… most of our greatest leaders in history didn’t have superb academic backgrounds…
Dems, get your facts straight. Then again, I suppose I can’t expect that from people who think that Trig is actually Bristol’s baby. Yeesh.

Today, unlike the other 364 days of the year, repubs are pitchfork waving populists, and 100% PC birkenstock wearing ultralibs concerning Obama’s special olympics comment.
You folks fool no one.
Now Palin (yet again) shamelessly using her disabled child as a campaign prop, that goes beyond the pale.
Well, not really. Such umbrage would require as a precondition that one is willing and able to take Palin, or anything she says or does, seriously.

What I learned during Bush’s two terms… “don’t hate the president, hate the game.”
So why hate Obama? It is not hurting him… you are only giving yourselves hurt burns. Just do what you do and if you don’t like him don’t vote for him just like many of you did in 2008.

Posted by: Does It Matters | March 20, 2009, 8:19 pm 8:19 pm

Sarah Palin is a lot smarter than people give her credit for. The idiots are the people who believe the twisted press coverage of her during the campaign because she was drawing huge, really huge crowds – she’s down to earth, and has a good head on her shoulders; and her nay sayers would realize that if they really listened. I’m glad she took Obama to task on this – he should know better than to make such a stupid remark. I’m not a PC person, but there are a lot of people who take exception to remarks like this. What I find strange is this remark about the Special Olympics was aimed at the organization supported by his biggest supporters – the Kennedys. That should show you just how arrogant this man is – it’s going to be a long 4 years unless we impeach him sooner.

TXBOB,
Obama may need his teleprompter but at least he writes his own speeches. Bush had his teleprompter when he said his crap about MISUNDERESTIMATED. He in my opinion made that statement not to belittle the Special Olympics but himself. Politics is not going to allow it to be seen that was however.
He’s not perfect, will never always be politically correct but he’s MAN enough to say I’M SORRY

So he was glad about what the President said. this negletive thing is a sign of the times. Lookijng for the worst in every situation instead of the best. Can’t you all see like this student. Why can’t you say to the children the President is like you so that means you can do anything too. This give them a good feeling.

If people would care about each other and try to haelp each other like they use to the world would be a better place. The elections are over as the President said we need to work together. This is the only way things will get better. As onle as we ask like crabs when one gets have way out, one reach up and pull him down, then no one gets out. Those who don’t like the President then get in there and fight with him to show you can do to help. If it works then next time I’ll vote for you, because it is all about change and if you can do it better, then you’re the one. Talk is cheap

Let’s the POTUS off late night television, or any talk show for that matter. He is not an entertainer. While I think his remarks were unfortunate, insensitive, and careless, I do believe he has adequately apologized. The bigger issue for me is why was he on Leno in the first place. The additional and unnecessary security costs to the City of LA and U.S. taxpayers I’m sure was significant. After making his speech(s)in LA, he should have reboarded Air Force One and flown back to DC to be President, not the next great Las Vegas stand up comic. Which, by the way, had these comments come from a real comedian, they wouldn’t have registered a blip on the radar screen.

Sarah Palin is correct in calling out President’s Obama’s comment. He did make a mistake. However the one major difference in President Obama’s gaff is that he immediately took responsibility for it and apologized before his left California. I’ve yet to hear Sarah Palin apologize or take responsibility for her gaffs (and there have been many) David Axelrod, one of President Obama’s chief advisors has a mentally challenged child and you can count on it President Obama would never have wanted to hurt his feelings.

And of course, leave it to dear Sarah to lead the band of the “righteous”. I could not stand her during the election (I voted for Obama because of her); and I can’ stand her now. Palin is such a moron. She would serve herself better by waiting until she has something intelligent and relevant to say, although I realize that would be an unlikely occurence. This hyper criticism she feels free to wield is SOOOO HYPOCRITICAL…What happened to Do Unto Others? Oh that’s right….the right wing ususally sticks to others ala Rush Limbaugh.

Observer: FACT – In her Sept. 11 interview with ABC’s Charlie Gibson, Sarah Palin had this to say about Russia: “They’re our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.” Now… pull your head out of Rush’s butt and face the truth.

Yes, and the American people were shocked when Old man MCcain selected you as his VP AND That was degrading to the USA. Palin you are a disgrace to women and need to go crawl under a rock. If Bush had made that comment you would be blasting him to no end about it. You Obamabots are an absolute jokes. The guy could go on Letterman next and say kill all you Jews and you morons would be cheering him on. His special olympics comment on Leno was as disgusting and absurd as him going on the show in the first place. Worry about the country Obama not being a TV star and filling out your NCAA bracket.

Sarah, your are justified with your comments but if only I could honestly believe you…….I was insulted by placing your infant down syndrome son on exhibition during the McCain election. You used your infant son as a tool to stated “see I have a child with a disability .” I am a person born with a disability. Now as a governor your are refusing stimulus funds for education, seniors, special education etc… and only keeping about 1/3 of the funds. Could it be that your focus is on 2012 and running for what? to be president. You see Sarah knowledge is important and you lack this skill .
Focus on your family…………. and stop attempting to become someone you will never be( President).

“Stacey……your quote is Wrong. It wasn’t Maria Shriver who said that…it was Tim you idiot.”
First Lady Maria Shriver today issued the following statement on President Obama’s comments regarding Special Olympics:
“While I am confident that President Obama never intended to offend anyone, the response that his comments have caused, coupled with the reaction of a primetime audience, demonstrate the need to continue to educate the non-disabled community on the issues that confront those with a developmental disability. My mother has dedicated her life to fighting stereotypes and ridicule for this community, and there is still much work to be done.
“The President’s apology for his comments and his commitment to bringing the Special Olympics to the White House are important first steps in shedding light on this important issue. Often times we don’t realize that when we laugh at comments like this it hurts millions of people throughout the world. People with special needs are great athletes and productive citizens, and I look forward to working with the President to knock down myths and stereotypes about this community.”

Julie
You state that Palin said “They’re our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.”
Then you said:
“Now… pull your head out of Rush’s butt and face the truth.”
1.) Yes, she said it.
2.) What’s there to face? What she said IS true! You CAN see parts of Russia from Alaska. She was waxing nostalgic about the beauty of her home state and what she enjoyed about it! She never said she could see Russia from her house as you Dems keep trying to shame her with.

That’s right, Chuck. Liberals are also all for diversity except when it’s time for them to tolerate an opinion different from their own. When confronted with facts and logic they soon surrender to the emotionalism that drives them and begin calling those different from them nasty names and telling them to shut up.

He “misspoke” because he was trying to be funny on a comedy show. Leno does it all night long “as a comedian” but he has experience and knows exactly how far he should go. Leno was very careful in not setting up Obama but he still managed to stick his foot in his mouth. Why do you think sitting Presidents have never once gone on a show like that?. . . . because the rest of them were smart enough to know they could only hurt themselves. Risk-Reward says don’t touch it, but Obama’s inexperience is shining through as he and his handlers simply don’t know better. Obama needs to grow up and get off this Hollywood Celeb act before the media eats him alive. When will he realize that all of these silly showboat distractions are seriously damaging his credibililty.

Something is beginning to take hold. Where I work, Obama diehards are being told to go blow in confrontational speech in breakrooms by persons who also voted for Obama. The turncoats don’t like him anymore. They really don’t like him, and they don’t like the diehards namecalling and calling people racists who objects to the President’s initiatives. I work for one of the most liberal organizations in America – a public university. So, if I’m seeing this happen where I work, it has to be happening elsewhere. I think the approval polls for Obama are a crock of you know what. The polls were 8 points higher for Obama than his actual percentage of votes. I have a strong feeling Obama’s grandstanding and strut is going to alienate the very people who put him in office. My female staff who voted for him can’t stand him now. They think he lies, and they really don’t like Pelosi at all … at all. That’s my unscientific poll of the week. It’s legit.

During the campaign for the White House in 2008, the media criticized Palin for being ‘common,’ and ‘not presidential.’ However, compare Sarah Palins attitude in this video created three weeks ago for the Special Olympics in Boise, Idaho.

Sometimes people say things that are not right and I truly don’t think that anyone on here can say that they have never said anything that was just stupid. I know that I am not perfect and I really don’t think that Pres Obama thinks that he is. He like everyone else is a human being and with that comes fault also.I know to you republicans out there that think that bush and Sarah palin are perfect, well you better wake up because they are not. And for people that think that he is going on Jay Leno for ratings, or whatever you people think he was doing, grow up and get a life did it ever occur to you that maybe!!!, just maybe Jay himself wanted him to come on since he was in California anyway, or maybe he wanted to come on because unlike the last so called pres, Pres Obama is not scared to be in front of a audience that may boo him from time to time unlike bush that had to have 100% bush loving crowd. You republicans can not admit that Pres Obama is having to do alot to try and lift this country out of the mess that your precious bush left him with. Pres Obama at least is trying to do something unlike bush who only did things to help his rich buddies. So it is stuff like that that will make me stick behind Pres Obama and give him my prayers and hope that he will get us out of this mess. I think that the problem the republicans are having is that they are scared that Pres Obama might, just might get us out of this mess and the republicans won’t be able to say anything then. Won’t that be a happy, happy day.

Umm, it keeps a specials needs teacher employed. Duh. That teacher then spends her paycheck on essentials for her family, hence money into the economy and there is your stimulus.

“Both by popular election and by the electoral college. Something that GWB never did in either term.”
BTW, you’re wrong: Bush got 50.73% of the popular vote in ’04 and obviously the majority of the electoral vote in ’00 and ’04. As for ’00, we’ll never know if he got more than the official 47.87% because most states didn’t bother to count all the absentee ballots which are traditionally overwhelmingly republican votes.
Clinton got a paltry 43.01% in ’92 and 49.23% in ’96.

I’ll tell you what…..I’ve taken this Sarah bashing just about as long as I can stand….
All of you who are giving Obama a pass….then ripping Sarah Palin are showing who you are….ugly, jealous, petty little people….You are nothing more than ‘repeaters’….every slanderous, phony thing thats ever been said about her has been debunked….so all you’re left with is to call her stupid…..cuz you hear others still bad mouthing her…….
Are any of you Governors??????Are you a top executive of the biggest state in the union???
Its well known Alaska has no failing banks….and a better economy than most states…..
A stupid person she’s not….
But my real rage has to do with the fact that women are the last group that can be treated this way….
I wish that she was black….that would protect her….you would’nt dare speak of her the way you do….
I am a white woman….and somehow…no one has to show us respect…
I’m tired of black people always whining and demanding and getting respect….but no matter how people tip-toe around any hint of disrespect…the black people are never satisfied….
My God the President is a black man….The one thing I told myself…since I knew he was a mistake….was that at least …finally…they would be satisfied…..but no….that was’nt enough either…
Sherry on the View was whining about not enough blacks on series in prime time…..The only racism I see comes from black people…
We have shown you respect….Its time for White women to enjoy the same respect….
When you attack Sarah Palin….You are attacking me….As long as its ok to target Sarah Palin with the hate and vulgarity I see here….You are attacking me…
Its high time the women of America Black or White Hispanic or Asian to refuse to put up with this kind of treatment of women.

I agree with Alex from Texas. Obama’s kids are very cute and well-behaved. My 4 year old daughter said her hero is Sasha Obama. Obama’s kids are role models and set a good example for all other kids. There is no comparison between Obama’s cute and bright kids and Sarah Palin’s trailer park trash kids.

The only thing she should jump on is a world map tracking where Russia is really located. I am sick and tired of seeing her in the news. He has hurt many families in America. He needs to say he is sorry in the public, not to an organization.
In addition, someone who claims to have experienced prejudice and stereotypes throughout life, and has written about them in great detail,
should be more sensitive and refined from life’s lessons.
Furthermore, Obama claimed he was going to have the world think ‘highly’ of America again. Will this joke help?
For someone who spoke of equality as a creed. Does this joke match that philosophy?
For someone that said he would stand for all people. Does this stand up for those that participate in the special
Olympics?
The fact is Obama claimed a higher standard. To much is given, much is required.
Obama has just showed us that ‘yes we can’ destroy what a campaign stands for with a single joke.
During the campaign for the White House in 2008, the media criticized Palin for being ‘common,’ ‘not-polished,’ ‘not-compassionate’ and ‘not presidential.’ However, compare Sarah Palins attitude in this video created three weeks ago for the Special Olympics in Boise, Idaho.
You decide the more ‘presidential’ among them:

He told the truth at an inopportune time, get over it. We all know he told the truth, so take your homey prattle somewhere else. We will save this country in spite of you, and you ‘feelings’ not because of it. Time to move on to fix the economy, and doing what needs to be done to those “people”. Thank God we’ve finally elected a man with the nerve to tell the truth.

Posted by: Frogfoot | March 21, 2009, 1:45 am 1:45 am

Unless I am mistaken, Christian teachings say that a sinner need only admit his sin and ask for forgiveness, (apologize), and forgiveness will be given! Why do so many so-called Christians in this country REFUSE to honor this corner-stone of Christian dogma? It seems that this tenet applies ONLY to them, individually! The president made a mistake …. he promptly admitted his error and apologized for it! Why can’t HE be forgiven? Whether the admissions and apologies from Obama are “sincere” or not, they are STILL far more than we have received from the previous administration over the past 8 years! (And they were VERY adamant about their Christian faith!) Isn’t it about time for ALL of us to stop “casting stones”, and start practicing forgiveness, instead? I, for one, am ready to forgive Bush and Co. ….. as soon as they ADMIT their sins and apologize for them!

Posted by: NV-Sparkle | March 21, 2009, 3:02 am 3:02 am

Hey NV-Sparkle, he didn’t make a mistake and there is nothing to apologize for. He only apologized for political cover. There is nothing to be forgiven for, you idiot. Why can’t we who want to move this country forward do it without always thinking we have to apologize to the dumb-a**’es who can’t accept reality?

Posted by: Frogfoot | March 21, 2009, 3:09 am 3:09 am

Frogfoot: You are wrong! Obama certainly should apologize and he should apologize in person and not use a spokesman! He made a stupid insulting remark. It was not just a joke! This is an issue that this woman campaign on, that families of special needs children would have a friend in the WH… So why would then accept a very large portion of the Recovery Plan but, not that part… ???

I find it hypocitical of Palin to be outraged over this remark which did not seem to be intended with any type of malice, but never the less a stupid remark. Afterall, wasn’t it Palin who dragged her special needs child around like a stage prop during the campaign, holding him one minute and then passing him off like a sack of potatoes to one of her other children. Wasn’t there some member of the family in Alaska that could have cared for that poor child while she campaigned intead of dragging him around from airplane to airplane and hotel to hotel. Honestly, wouldn’t that child have been more comfortable in his own home going to sleep each night in his own bed. She certainly could have set aside some time during the campaign to go him to be with him. That would have at made her look like a caring mother instead of an ambitious, self -centered attack dog for the GOP.
Plus she now is going to turn down stimulus money for education of which some of those funds would go to educational facilities for their special needs programs.

Yes, and in case you all haven’t figured it out yet, this funding is one year funding only. So the states who accept said funding such as the one year only unemployment benefits funding will responsible for continuing the funding after that.

The biggest single chunk of money that Palin is turning down is about $170 million for education, including money that would go for programs to help economically disadvantaged and special needs students. Anchorage School Superintendent Carol Comeau said she is “shocked and very disappointed” that Palin would reject the schools money. She said it could be used for job preservation, teacher training, and helping kids who need it.
What a fake – special needs students ain’t that what her son is? But slaming President for his comment and she is refusing to use Federal money to help the specail need students. What a nut if you ever seen one! I am so out done with her as well on commenting about this nut.

Parnell rejected the notion that political ambitions played a role in the governor’s decision. “I spent hours with her and her staff on this and I never heard mention of it. … I think her motives are very pure in serving Alaskans in this.”
And we will all have to see. If she does run in 2012 the notion that political ambition played a role in Sara decision to refuse some of the Stiulum money to appease the Conservation. So Sara go head in run in 2012 and don’t think we will bring this up.

$26 MILLION FOR ANCHORAGE
Palin budget director Karen Rehfeld defended the governor’s announcement. “I don’t think the implication is that they would waste the money,” she said. The governor’s concern, Rehfeld said, is that $172 million is a big number and when the money dries up in two years, there could be an outcry and expectation for the state to replace it.
“We’ve seen that in many programs, that when federal funds go away, the tendency is for the state to come in and try to backfill and keep things going — and that’s the concern,” she said. “Particularly when we look at the (state) revenue picture.
Anchorage School Superintendent Carol Comeau heard the news when a frenzy of calls between superintendents began ringing across the state early this afternoon.
“I was very surprised and disappointed,” she said.
Anchorage schools were slated to get at least $26 million for special education and Title One schools, which are in the city’s poorest neighborhoods. One idea was to use some of the money to expand pre-kindergarten to more low-income children, Comeau said.
While the impact on the Anchorage School District, which has an annual budget of around $800 million, may be small, the effect on smaller school districts in rural Alaska will be more significant, she said. “With the number of rural districts struggling, to take this away from them, it’s just not fair.”
Aleutians East superintendent Phil Knight hopes Palin reconsiders.
Knight’s district of six schools, all of which are accessible only by boat or plane, has 250 kids. He had planned to use his district’s slated $84,000 to keep open smaller schools threatened with closure next year.
Northwest Arctic Borough superintendent Norman Eck reacted to the news in an e-mail: “I am stunned,” he wrote.
His district is under intervention by the state Department of Education because of poor test scores year after year. He said he had planned to use his $1.2 million for education materials the district otherwise could not afford. High electricity and fuel costs hit his budget hard this year, and ended up being taken from money otherwise meant for kids in classrooms.
“We will need our Legislature to take a strong stand and pass the emergency resolution to receive this money on behalf of Alaska’s children,” Eck wrote.
It look like Sara Palin needs to take care of her school system instead at taking jabs at the President. Her job may be at state and she is spending time attacking the President. SHE IS NO MATCH FOR THE PRESIDENT AND HE WILL CRUSH HER IN 2012>

And unless you’ve served in the armed forces during VietNam, please shut your mouth about who spit on whom, etc. You obviously have no idea of which you speak.

Charlie, you’re absolutely right. It doesn’t bother me at all that Clinton did not get 50% of the vote. (He did, however, get more votes than any other candidate.) Our Constitution does not say that a candidate must get 50% of the popular vote to be elected president. So Clinton was elected fairly AND constitutionally.
However, the (conservative) Supreme Court stepped in BEFORE the recount was finished, and declared GWB president for his first term. Thereby tossing the Constitution out the window….something GWB continued to feel he had a right to do during his entire presidency. (GWB would not have had the required number of electoral college votes if he hadn’t carried Florida.)
In his second term, he just plain lost the popular vote, but just barely managed to squeak out the required number of electoral college votes. Which is why, in many states now, there is now a move underway to eliminate the electoral college.

The remark about Special Olympics didn’t bother near as much as the fact that big eared dumbo half our nation of ididots elected was on Leno in the first place. This shows his apparent immaturity and inexperience! The media is scared to say anything against this educated idiot, and instead want to report on his NCAA picks and what Michelle is wearing! We will continue to slide until we elect a mature person worthy of the office. Furthermore, no matter what the liberals say about Bush and Cheney, they were always more mature, responsible and presidential than Oblahblah and Booben ever will be!!!

It WAS an unfortunate comment, but it still pales in comparison to years of invading third world countries in the guise of “war”, murdering babies and hanging their leader and their sons on TV, etc. Also, N B C network was quick to jump on the remark and smear it all over the news the very next morning, but on the most recent episode of Apprentice, the old, white- haired guy said, “Who was your interior decorator? Stevie Wonder?” So, at N B C, I guess a Special Olympics slur is NOT alright, but unkind references to blind people are?

Easy to see right through the Republican’s new “sore loser” agenda. Each week or so, a new ugly, old head, face pops up. It’s well orchestrated. Last week, Cheney. Now Palin. And the constant drone of Limbaugh and the other radio/TV actors, and that’s all they are is ACTORS. Their plan is simple: to discredit EVERYTHING President Obama stands for, to block ANY progress he may try to make on fixing the total MESS the REPUBLICANS have left the USA in, and ridicule him if he slips up on some “special olympics” remark, NBC and the others helping them at every step.

Posted by: SJB | March 21, 2009, 11:15 pm 11:15 pm

Strange, she can slam President Obama on an unintended remark that he has sincerely apologized for, and produce video’s and garner headlines about her support for special olympic kids; all while accepting $398 million dollars meant for the “Bridge to Nowhere”, and rejecting $288 million from the Recovery and Reinvestment Act, of which a good portion was intended to be directed to education for special needs and economically disadvantaged kids. I think may have her priorities out of whack.

Special Olympics is very special to the American People. It is a triumph of the Spirit of these Children to over come the adversities that their personal lives do encounter. Governor Palin is proud of her son and I think that President Obama was referring to a clumsiness that we all of share in common. Intelligence!

I’ve had it: I’m going to repeat as I have many times the last two days, she turned it down but she DID NOT block that stimulus money from coming in to her state! Officials from the local school districts and education programs are still free to apply for those funds for their individual needs! The money is still available to them but they just have to apply for it themselves!

Please stop writing news articles about Sarah Palin. I have researched her whole history political service/activities and have watched her activities/positions/actions during 2008 Presidential Campaign. Ms. Palin is a polarizing, dangerous, and vindictive woman. Yes, she is beautiful, and gives great crowd mesmerizing speeches. But format of her rally speeches reveal she is an attack artist and revels in fact she can induce such crowd hate and rage. And she still continued provoking crowds. FBI just put lid on publicity. No news media could even interview the crowds. Sarah induced crowds to hate the news media. News media were attacked at the rallies. FBI had to provide protection. Some sneaked interviews but were driven off quickly by FBI. The racist, terrorist claims, news media attacks were disgraceful.
America would be exposed to great danger with her in higher office.

Dozens of protesters held signs Saturday criticizing Gov. Sarah Palin for turning away federal economic stimulus money they said is vital for education and other services for Alaskans.
We need a governor, not a presidential candidate,” said another.
The protesters staged the demonstration outside the Loussac Library, where Anchorage area state legislators met to hear from constituents.
Many asked for money to fund building projects, or urged passage of particular bills.
But the dominant issue was Palin’s purported rejection of $288 million, or 31 percent of the $931 million the state is eligible to receive under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
She got time to slam the President, but no time for her state. We do not fair Palin – we just don’t think she is qualifed to be the VP or the President of the USA. Her own state constiuents are not happy with her playing polictic.

I wish those who take the time to comment would get their facts straight. Go directly to the Alaskan state site and click on to the budget to read for yourself the amount of increases for education – then apologize for your ignorance. Then, find as many one and two year olds and get down on your knees to BEG their forgiveness for cursing them with the bill Obama just passed – plus Pelosi’s first one – since these babies will bre paying for them all of their lives. If you want to do something for kids, stop spending their futures into the ground. Where do you think the money to pay for all of these great wants will come from? Santa Claus? Obama has created a deficit that is larger than what Bush did in all of his 8 years! Plus the fools at the Fed are printing more money which will cause major inflation. Stop spending our kids’ future. Learn some economic facts. Make $100 and spend $95 and you’ll survive. Make $100 and spend $100,000,000 and you will live in misery. That is what Obama has done to us. Palin has the experience and fortitude to refuse to condemn her kids’ futures. Good for her.
About the wolves- gee whiz. It is the State’s Wildlife office which is charge of this program – not Palin. You should know that at least 15 OTHER states do the same thing because too many hungry wolves are dangerous. Alaskans use planes because they use planes like we use cars. They are just means of transportation for a huge state. Other states use horses, etc. CT also gives permits to kill deer because they overpopulate. We have had coyotes grab dogs and cats off porches and back yards in spite of owners screaming to stop them. Not a pretty sight to see your beloved pet taken away from you and know it is dead or will soon be dead and eaten. Luckily no little children have been left alone in a back yard. Oh, I forgot – the child who was grabbed and eaten by a gator in FL. Should we all try to be politically correct? Be real. Canada also has given permits for hunters to kill polar bears since they are also over populating in certain areas. Their meat is used by the whole community. We all try to put our nose into the faces of people we do not know. The success of the wolf program was that instead of 1 or 2 baby elk surviving (wolves find them so tasty) the number went up to @ 32 per hundred survival rate. When elk and moose are the basis on a families food supply, that is good news. Some Alaskans don’t go to the supermarket as we do in the cities. Some have their mail and supplies dropped off to them by plane. Alaskan troopers use planes to visit towns when investigating crimes. You need to spend some time on the Alaskan site as well as the Wasilla town site. A little time spent educating yourself will prevent some of the tripe in some of these comments. Of course, most of you seem to be reading from the same playbook. From Rahm, Carvelle, George, etc? Brainwashing is so evident.
Oh – Rose Kennedy put her daughter into an institution because it was the thing to do. Palin is the new woman – celebrate each child. Plus – she has never voted against sex ed, abortion, etc. She was able to differentiate between personal and professional behaviors. Plus – she was like many women who married at 18 and had a family and that was to take 5 years to get her degree. Obama has written that he wishes that he had not done the drugs and partying while in college. He wishes that he had paid more attention to his studies. He went out and bought drugs – so he said in his book. I remind people that Rush went to the doctor and was given a prescription for a pain reliever that history has proven to be most dangerous and that many American were hooked by it. My cousin’s wife – a sweet 34 year old – took it for back pain. She is condemned to fight her addiction and is losing. Her life was destroyed by merely trusting her doctor and what he gave her. You cannot criticize Rush for drugs without admitting that Obama also used – but he made the choice to do so.
Enough! Get educated!

Posted by: Linda Mae | March 23, 2009, 2:46 am 2:46 am

Linda Mae: You are right! Every word you said is true! If people would take the time to find out what is in that stimulus package they would see that Sarah Palin and others like her are doing the right thing by not accepting all of the available funds. In the years to come people will see that and they will thank her instead of criticize her. Right now, though, they are just looking at the surface of what she has done and not actually checking the facts. People that have listened to the latest news also know that many congressmen in Washington are now regretting signing that stimulus bill so quickly without reading it first. They are finding that there are many mistakes and much pork in it that they weren’t told about. Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal and others were wise to read the package before they agreed to accept the funds and they were right to not accept all of the funds because what people don’t realize is that there are strings attached! And, you are also right about our children and grandchildren having to replace all of these funds and pay for all of this debt! Obama is getting our country so far in debt our ggggggggrandchildren will still be paying for this stimulus package! You are also right about another thing. People in the lower 48 don’t realize that life in Alaska is much different than in the other states. Many people in Alaska can’t get to supermarkets because there aren’t that many roads in the interior and most roads that they do have are impassable in winter and they have to rely on small planes as their primary means of travel. Also since they can’t get to supermarkets, the food that they eat is different than what we eat. In many places in Alaska if the people didn’t hunt for their food they would starve!

gl: What is she supposed to do, lock them in a closet? Also what about that recent interview with Levi Johnston when he was ambushed by reporters in his driveway who didn’t even give him time to get out of his truck? Sarah Palin was nowhere in sight for that one! Also what about the Obama girls who are constantly being photographed and in the news and were before their father was elected too? Why do you think Sarah should hide her children and the Obama girls should be constantly in the public eye? Why is that alright?

Sarah Palin has more testosterone than
any hyena that can change genders.Dominance in a hyena pack is determined by the amount of testosterone that the female of the species has. The more testosterone, the more her status in the pack. So it is with Republican women like Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin. The bigger the horse jaw, and the more vile the aggressiveness, the more Republicans like her, because they essentially ARE hyenas in human form. Aggressive cowards that attack in packs and try to tear their victim apart as viciously as they can.
Don’t ever compare Sarah Palin with Hillary Clinton. Hillary is a class act with brains. Sarah Palin has zero class, revels in her ignorance and mean-spiritedness and has a jaw like that of a moose. Hillary is smart, Palin is stupid. Hillary is up on facts, Sarah can’t handle facts because there is no room in her peanut brain to store any.

Sarah Palin is a real piece of work. She fakes phony outrage at what Letterman said about her unwed (political spokes person) daughter while trying to turn the whole thing into yet another attack on President Obama. The barracuda, pit bull of the GOP is at it again. She stated that “HE WHO MUST BE OBAYED” President Obama said during the campaign that children should be off limits but Obama was not talking about his own daughters he was defending Palins kids. What a wicked witch that sleazy Sarah is and what a two faced lying hypocrite. She has no room at all to try to criticize Letterman until she cleans up her own act.
