Tonight: Progress Report

At his prime time press conference tonight, administration sources tell ABC News, President Obama will use his opening statement to give the American people a progress report of sorts.

This will be an update on the steps that are being taken to "strengthen our economy and move it from recession to recovery," a White House officials says, "focusing on job creation, housing, getting credit flowing" as well as crafting a budget that will ensure long-term growth.

An example could be the $9 billion in loan applications to the administration’s new Consumer Business Lending Initiative; or encouraging signs in the president’s plan for home foreclosure prevention and the refinancing of mortgages.

The President will say "there are no quick fixes but a comprehensive strategy can lead us to prosperous days again," says the official.

perhaps another couple of trillion that PB0 does not have might help?
He told wall street yesterday to purchase 1T toxic stocks, helping to gain 500 points. What do you think about that? At least it makes him proud to tell ya today his strategy is working at wall street. as to who the hell is to pay for it, it’s your grand children’s problem, not 2012′s.

I would assume that the rest of the time will be spent trying to push his budget down our throats….

I wonder if Obama will be “punch-drunk” at the press conference?

Obama’s Laugh???
What most people are not discerning is, is that Pres. Obama is somehow aiding us in facing this “shadow” or darkness of greed in our society. He is not trying to Hide it or Cover it up! Ironically, he is being blamed for not trying to Fix it in a hurry, so it will not be Exposed….. But to truly fix it, we must face it, identify it and generate enough public consensus so that it can be changed. That is how change is made. That is why I see Pres. Obama as really a true change agent. True and lasting change can only come from the people, demanding change. That is why Obama can laugh, he knows that the fat cats’ days of unchecked greed and speculation are numbered!
Now GOP’s new buzz word is “unsustainable”, however, what was really “unsustainable” as the recent events so adequately portray is that George Bush’s Iraq War, tax cuts to the wealthy, jobs going over seas, tax breaks to companies that shipped jobs over seas, deregulation of banks and insurance companies, and more (which I will leave to the experts to flush out), is the really true Unsustainable and break down and collapse of our economic system, fabric of society (bridges, roads, jobs, education), you name it, he failed in all aspects of this society. There are “tent” cities popping up all over United States because families can no longer sustain to live in a house because they no longer have a job!
This new buzz word “unsustainable” is a hoax, disingenous and hypocritical. Remember, they want Pres. Obama to Fail!
And lastly, let’s be Clear, George W. Bush’s first year in office was spent more at the Ranch then in Washington. Where was the Party of No’s outrage then? May be if George had spent more time in D.C. working, they would have been more alert about the signs leading to 9/11, just a thought…..

Alright! I like the guy. I voted for the guy. I think he is doing an o-kay job (actually its still too early.) BUT, ENOUGH ALREADY! TOO MUCH TELEVISION!!! He is starting to get on my last nerve with all of this television time! Has anyone ever heard of “OVER-EXPOSURE?” …I mean, every single day…morning, noon, and night…just too much, way, way too much.

Angellight …. Bush is gone. This is Obama’s show now. As far as Bush spending more time at his ranch than the White House. Obama has NOT spent to much time there either. Too busy with Jay Leno.

progress? How about disaster? Obama has spent and is going to bankrupt the country. He has used the crisis to attempt to expand governemnt intrusion into all aspects of our lives and we are not going to put up with it.

CW wants more action? Pay attention. The economy is starting to turn around, to rebound. Wall Street is responding favorably; existing home sales are up; credit is starting to loosen up. Just because the Limbaugh-loving, hope-he-fails crowd does not want to admit it does not make it less true.

How come we haven’t heard anything in the news about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac giving their executives $1million bonuses? Everyone is up in arms over AIG but Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac impending bonuses have been kept quiet. Is it because Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac gave $105,849 to Obama? When the floor is open for questions tonight, someone should ask Obama about the upcoming Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac million dollar bonuses to their executives.

William J. LePetomane |……..The economy is turning around? where do you live? Every week Obama spends another trillion dollars that we don’t have. People continue to loose jobs. Just because the stock market was up for one day does NOT mean the economy is “turning around”.

I’m 25 years old. No kids. and at the rate obama is going with all these stimulus buyouts. My grandchildren will still be working to pay it back in damn taxes!!!!!!!! My grandchildren will be in a recession once he finishes breaking this country in only 2 years… and you people say he’s doing a good job. He’s breaking the “fat cats” oh yea he’s breaking them huh. Then why AIG executives continue to get big bonuses off our tax dollars dummies!! AIG gave funding to his campaign!wake up people!!

William LeP.. Every President, past and present, should command respect and professionalism; thus, demonstrate the same respect, professionalism and show gravitas to the world for what he does and say reflects upon all of us…I don’t see that from President Obama of late..CBS interview when asked “Are you punch drunk?” Can you vision Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton being asked that question..and laughing in return..Can you see past Presidents doing appearances on late night talk show laughing it up making jokes at the expense of a select group? Questions for our astronauts, do you drink Tang or ever thought about cutting your hair to a female astronaut what??? Easy buttons, State Dept blip..VP Biden..what can you read about Biden you don’t already know..Perhaps the REAL Obama is coming out now that he is President..Please don’t say lighten up..this man is the future of our Country..If I wanted Quayle for President I would have started a petition.

Willian J–”The economy is starting to turn around, to rebound. Wall Street is responding favorably; existing home sales are up; credit is starting to loosen up. Just because the Limbaugh-loving, hope-he-fails crowd does not want to admit it does not make it less true.”– The market WILL go up when you thro3w a trillion at it.. but in only one day its heading back down again.. thats not what I call a turnaround… Weren’t you the one who said that you had a relative who was laid off from catepillar (or was that someone else).. The CEO of catepillar announced ysterday that they were laying off an additional 2400 and another 600 would have to take a 6 month layoff minimum.. Unemployment continues to climb and with all the money that has been printed lately, inflation should start flaring shortly…Meanwhile, we are completly disregarding the constitution, taking bonuses from people AFTER we told them they could receive them, now we want Geithner to have more power to “take over” failing companies (not just banks) and place them ion government control.. WOW, socialized healthcare, increased welfare, government control of private companies, taxpayer funded selloffs of toxic debt (to “private” investors who are going to be funded at the rate of 93% by the government), 905 taxes on bonuses (unconstitutional by the way). Is anyone out there STILL going to try to convince us that this is NOT a socialist takeover of the US government??

Maybe He’ll explain why His corporate masters couldn’t hold the stock market up for TWO days running, ahead of His latest hokey speech ?
Otherwise, maybe He’d better try appearing in a grass skirt, or something. His slick schtick’s worn thin, along with that birthday-suit thing.
Everybody knows this is nowhere.

arkievet: you are probably right. Next thing you know, Obama will want to nationalize the interstate highway system. Nationalize defense. Nationalize agencies like the CIA and FBI. Creeping Socialism! Next thing you know, he’ll advocate universal public education, K-12, for all!

Parallax View: (good movie, btw). I understand your points. Well made. Where I have a problem is that President Obama is held to a different standard than those who have gone before. Often times these criticisms here are trivial, petty, insulting or downright nasty. People are willing to criticize him for the kinds of things others have done, but which have gone without criticism. It started with the Innauguration and has gone on steadily since then. Things like: why does HE need an Innauguration? These are tough times. Why does Michelle wear those awful sleeveless dresses; she looks like a hussy. Why does HE have to fly aroung the country on AF One? How much does that cost us everytime he goes somewhere? He uses a teleprompter! Ha Ha! Who paid for HIS trip to Hawaii? Why does HE have to go back to Chicago so often? Filling out NCAA brackets? We are paying him to govern, for God’s sake. What’s this about him bowling and playing basketball? He should be working! On and on, ad nauseum. By the same kind of people who would never say a word if Bush went to Crawford on vacation, went to Camp David, or whenever Bush flew somewhere on AF One.

William J-”Obama will want to nationalize the interstate highway system. Nationalize defense. Nationalize agencies like the CIA and FBI. Creeping Socialism! Next thing you know, he’ll advocate universal public education, K-12, for all!”
_____________________________
I realize your comment was abit tongue in cheek, but A national defense IS constitutionally mandated.. this would incorporate agencies like the CIA and FBI since a large portion of their existence is dedicated to the national defense. the interstate highway system is actually an example if infrastructure spending WITHOUT nationalization. While the US government did standardize the highway system, most interstates are the repsonsibility of the states they serve.. not the Fed. The building of those highways was a national program while the maintenance of them is a state responsibility and thats the way it should be. And he has already taken a small step toward universal public education. In this country, your taxes pay for the public schools in your area, but you are not required to go to them.. you can at your own expense, go to a private instution (as it should be). Obama has already taken away the vouchers for the same private DC schools that his own kids attend. In effect, forcing some middle and lower income families to pull their children from these ame private schools and enroll them in the failing public system in DC.. and this is WRONG>>>

Did you actually write that with a straight face… Thorughout the election, people were castigated for speaking about his background, his associations, his preacher, his relationaship with ACORN, conservatives were called Racists simply for saying that his views were socialist… I still remember Sam Donaldson covering a Reagan speech and he led with “the president has to accomplish several things today, the first of which is not to drool when he speaks”.. and not a word was said about the comment. Bush was called stupid, a fascist, a liar and a murderer.. and there was not outcry..
Obama has been completely shielded by the media.. the British newspapers considered his gift to Blair to be an unforgivable insult and yet it was not even mentioned over here. What do you think would have happened if Bush had made the “special olympics” joke on TV..do you think the media would have given him a complete pass as they did Obama? In over 30 years of watching national politics, i have never seen a president or anyone else for that matter, receive the type of free passes that Obama has received.

Posted by: arkie vet | March 24, 2009, 3:59 pm 3:59 pm

arkie vet: when is the last time Bush was criticized for his use of a teleprompter on these blogs? Michelle Obama was criticized here for putting in the garden! The GARDEN for God’s sake. He is criticized for travelling on AF One. He was critcized for taking a family vacation in HI. He was criticized for going back home to Chicago for a weekend visit. Michelle is criticized for wearing sleeveless dresses! He was criticized for entertaining the Irish prime minister on St. Patrick’s Day! He was criticized for having concerts in the white house (common practice for presidents). This is the cruel, petty kind of dung, shouts from louts, that is so infuriating. If you want to criticize his plans and policies, fair game. But to blast him because he likes to shoot hoops to blow off steam? How is that fair? How is that civil?

Obama gets no more of a free pass than anyone else. The “special olympics” comment was discussed for several days on TV and the radio talk shows. Now the next thing is that he had the nerve to laugh while being interviewed on 60 Minutes. And I did hear the gift to Brown (not Blair) discussed at least on two different days. And he gets a free pass? Au contrair, mon frer

This is a great opportunity for the public to ask the President questions. We are so fortunate to have this system in America.
I am hopeful that the presidents new programs will help average Americans. At a time when the American dream, of designing, building and owning ones home has been frayed and destroyed, what can the President tell me that can be done to set a mandate that the banks be made liable for destroying homeowners homes with criminal and wrongful mortgage practices?
I designed and built my own twenty years ago for my first family. In 2003, Washington Mutual Bank advised me to take the wrong mortgage loan while I was unemployed, instead of their branch manager offering some other modification to save the home. The bank eventually foreclosed and evicted me when job loss was immanent. With the help of an attorney, I recovered my rightful equity of approximately $100,000. What can be done now to re-invest a portion of this to re-establish a new home again at early retirement age? Will the banks welcome that I want to put down say $40,000 while I am underemployed as an artist? Will the President create new jobs for artists? My art has appeared on NASA web pages, awarded and published in many venues. I have spoke of it on NPR’s Talk of the Nation as I offer to lecture as non-profit for schools now. Will there be grants or compensation for those of us that can inspire students in new educational ways in the arts and sciences?

My problem is this: We’ve spent a few Trillion dollars in the last 2 months. Yesterday we bought toxic assets with privite investors, we took most of the risk, not government, we the people, I’m really tired of borrowing so much money and not seeing any of it. Come on guys don’t you see we are borrowing so much money and we the taxpayers are going to have to pay it back. I don’t want the banks able to lend money because I can’t afford to borrow any

After Franklin Raines left Fannie and it was discovered how much he bilked that company out of, and the time and money the govt. had to spend to find and correct the accounting irregularities, there should never have been a single bonus paid to Fannie execs – especially for the past year. I read that the bonuses were going to be TWICE the size of the prior year’s. Hum, at a time when they were losing money, had to be bailed out – sounds a lot like AIG. If you are going to be indignant over AIG bonuses and expect them returned, then the same applies to Fannie – even if the amounts aren’t the same. The principle is: poor performance should not be rewarded.

Jack,
He never answered your question and you gave him a pass on it. This President loves to hear himself speak and he can side step any hot issues with a kind of specialized “contextual statement” and the world goes “oh…ok.”
This President has spent more money than the sum total of every president since since George Washington. He just sent a message to business people everywhere that if his administration makes a deal they can and will break the deal if they are in the mood.
the election is over; we need to keep our eye on the ball and if this President or any of his administration (not to mention his cronies in Congress like Dodd and Frank & Company) does this democratic tap dance then we need to call them out right then and there. You gave him a pass Jack – I know it is easy for guys like me to armchair this sort of thing but you were there, it was your turn and you were on game. It was just a little discouraging that you let him ramble on and not bring him back to reality.
The new bumpersticker: Answer the Question.

Let’s not forget who got us on this run-away train of financial woes. And to remind all… it wasn’t the Democrats. … The GOP (remember they refused to call themselves Republicans to distance themselves from Bush during the campaign) … the GOP wants us to believe they know how to get this train on track. Well, they’d best help Obama HELP US, the taxpayer… or we will find the “old conservative” GOP is derailed forever.
