Vice President Biden — the Shane Battier of the Obama Administration

Today’s New York Times offers a typically insightful Mark Leibovich profile of Vice President Joe Biden.

President Obama is quoted in the piece comparing his No. 2 to a basketball player "who does a bunch of things that don’t show up in the stat sheet," the president said in an interview Friday. "He gets that extra rebound, takes the charge, makes that extra pass."

Which is a pretty good description of a recent Michael Lewis profile of the Rockets’ Shane Battier.

Both are worth the read.

Some of Crazy Joe’s extra passes of the day: announcing that Obama won’t life the Cuba embargo, and scolding the thousands of protestors at the G20.

Biden also thanked Spain for their help in Iraq–but they didn’t help us.
Obama needed an expert on foreign policy to make up for his total lack of experience.
He chose Biden–the expert.
It’s a race between the two of them to see who can gaffe the most.

I still like to ponder ol’ Joe’s article in 2006, in which he proposed a partitioning of Iraq into three autonomous regions. How’d that proposal work out for you, Joe?

Basketball references and cocaine use.
This admin gets classier every minute.
Ugh.

Even David Broder has defected to the right wing:
“With a bit of bookkeeping legerdemain borrowed from the Bush administration, the Democratic Congress is about to perform a cover-up on the most serious threat to America’s economic future.
“That threat is not the severe recession, tough as that is for the families and businesses struggling to make ends meet. In time, the recession will end, and last week’s stock market performance hinted that we may not have to wait years for the recovery to begin.
“The real threat is the monstrous debt resulting from the slump in revenue and the staggering sums being committed by Washington to rescuing embattled banks and homeowners — and the absence of any serious strategy for paying it all back.”

Don’t pretend that David Broder is any kind of ‘liberal’ or even ‘moderate’. He has an extensive history of parroting right wing talking points, but worse, he speaks for the ‘conventional wisdom’ of the DC Villagers, who are so out of touch with real America.

Biden must be getting splinters from sitting the bench.

Hey Jake,
When are you going after Biden’s daughter for the reported cocaine use with the same vigor the MSM went after Palin’s daughter?

A court certainly comes to mind when
thinking about VP Joe Biden.
He is the “court jester” of the
Obama Administration although it was a
tight race between Biden and
Robert Gibbs.
Gibb’s eloquence, “um um um” made it a
really close race.
I guess Gibbs has to settle for
Class Clown! LOL!

I am looking for all the coverage of Biden’s cocaine addict daughter.
WE had weeks, years of the Bush girls having a beer, and none of their years of relief work in Africa.
We had intense coverage of Bristol Palin from news to comedy to mean-spirited late night smears. We had lengthy discussions when the grandmother of the child, on the fathers side, had drug issues.
WHERE IS THE COVERAGE OF BIDENS CHILD ON COCAINE. WHO THREATENED THE LAWYER REPRESENTING THE OWNER OF THE VIDEOTAPE?

Flash Overide:
Try doing some research before you
make an ass of yourself!
David Broder has been a Liberal
Democrat for as long as I’ve been
reading his columns and I’m 60.
He’s about as “rightwing” as
Chris Matthews is!

Pardon Me,
Even mentioning Joe biden in the same sentence as Shane Battier is a huge insult to Battier.
Shane is a class act who brings work ehtic and pride to what he does every day! Biden has not put in a days worth of work like Battier in the past 30+ years!
You guys owe Shane Battier an apology!

“I like how VP Buffoon just thanked Zapatero for all Spain’s help in Iraq. You know, the same Zapatero that immediately pulled all Spanish troops from Iraq upon election and refused to even provide training.”
ROFLMAO!
Right wingers (like hotair) are counting on people not being able to translate the original article and noticeably leave out that Biden was thanking Spain (not Zapatero) for its efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I was delighted to see a worthwhile article on Vice President Joe Biden…he certainly doesn’t get the noteriety he deserves, but he seems quite okay with it and simply enjoys working as hard as possible and using his many talents to be an effective force for Obama and our nation. He’s the right one for the job. Biden IMHO has become the best asset of this administration. From his poigiant speech in Munich, to his travels to Afghanistan/Pakistan to access current knowledge of the region and recent Chile/Costa Rica trip, meetings with foreign leadership, his extensive foreign policy experience, and readily handling anything Obama throws at him and entrusts to him, such as the focus on middle/working class and stim spending. Biden is anything but a gaffe machine. I’ve learned to be doubly impressed with his performance; he never makes excuses and has never wimped out. I’ve listened to some of his speeches/talks to firefighter groups, etc.; he relates so well to Americans and vice versa.
I couldn’t be more pleased with Joe’s performance as our VP, and I foresee him accomplishing much much more. It is wonderful to have such an active and honest vice president. His loyalty to President Obama is a big plus.
Note to Mr. Tapper: I’ve heard that posters on your blog can be an embarrassment to your journalistic reputation. I must agree…sad.
