Obama Mum on White House Dog – ‘Top Secret!’*
ABC News’ Karen Travers reports: Finally some news on that much anticipated White House dog. He or she is arriving … soon! But today, President Obama’s lips were sealed when he was asked when the first family’s dog will arrive at the White House. "Oh man, that’s top secret," Obama said. Now if you want to read some tea leaves… Obama followed that up by asking the reporters gathered in the Roosevelt Room if any of them would be at the White House Easter Egg Roll, scheduled for Monday on the South Lawn. "That’s big. That’s big," he said. Perhaps the new dog makes his/her grand debut amidst the thousands of excited (and sugared up) children on the South Lawn? Thursday afternoon at a planting event at the White House vegetable garden, CBS News’ Mark Knoller asked First Lady Michelle Obama when the newest member of the family would arrive at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. “Soon!” Mrs. Obama said. The always-tenacious Knoller followed up: “How soon?” “Sooon!” the first lady said. Mrs. Obama told People Magazine in February that the dog would arrive sometime in April, after the family went away on a spring break vacation. Well, spring break for the Obama girls was several weeks ago and there is still no dog running around on the South Lawn of the White House. The Obamas were traveling in Europe for eight days and just returned this week. Perhaps the Easter Bunny will skip the eggs and candy this year and deliver a dog instead? The first lady’s office has remained mum on the topic of the first dog, saying yesterday that there will be no announcements and no new residents moving into the White House this week. It looks like a rescue Portuguese Water dog is still at the top of list, but spokespeople in the first lady’s office would not commit to that breed. Mrs. Obama told People Magazine she was surprised at how interested the American public has been in the search for the White House dog. “One of the things I didn’t anticipate is the level of the excitement about the dog. I knew my kids were excited. They’ve been excited for years. They’ve even calmed down, because they feel like, ‘They said we’re going to get one, so let’s just shut up about it,’” she said. — Karen Travers *The story was updated on Friday, April 10.

Sad as it is, this “getting a dog” issue has actually been pointed to by the Obama propagandists as one of his “campaign promises” that he is in the process of keeping.
When you have to reach that desperately, there is a problem.

I have six dogs and if the Obomas need one quick I would love to give them one of my Jack Russels. I have four of them plus a black lab and a golden retriever. I really could use some help with all these animals. We also have three cats!
Someone please help us out.

Studies show that people think of TV characters as if they were actually friends. The mass media tries to perpetuate this image as a means of retaining viewership so they can better sell us to advertisers. Hence we have lots of silly stories about our favorite characters dominating the corporate media.
Sadly, over the last several decades, this has also meant that actual important events and trends get crowded out.

I got my dog on Easter Weekend eleven years ago. What a great time of the year to start working with a new puppy!
Posted by: Michele in Maine | April 9, 2009, 10:37 pm 10:37 pm
As a longtime shelter volunteer who has sobbed over dogs who don’t get adopted way too many times, I was happy to hear the Obamas were thinking shelter dog. But I fear that the reporter on the Chris Matthews show this weekend had legit scoop– she said the dog would arrive soon and be a gift from a dear friend. So my prediction is that Ted Kennedy will give them a Portugese Water Dog puppy, so they don’t get a shelter dog. I mean, who can complain about them taking a gift from a beloved elder statesman suffering from cancer?
I hope all the publicity will still help raise awareness about the joys of shelter dogs. Way too many people are not responsible pet owners, resulting in way too many animals in shelters across the country. Way too many people don’t think to look in a shelter when they want a new pet, resulting in way too many animals being euthanized in shelters every day.
I was crushed this weekend when, as I prepared to leave the shelter after a satisfying morning with three adoptions and a gaggle of volunteers giving all the puppies a romp outside and all the dogs a lovely walk and all the cats a cuddle, a shelter worker said, “You know, we put a lot of puppies in the adoption area lately because people say they are more popular than the big dogs. Then today, we got a batch of people coming in looking for adult dogs. We’re going to have to rotate half those puppies to the back and bring up some adult dogs tomorrow.” Sounds innocuous, unless you know the code. “Rotating to the back” means taking them out of the adoption area to make room for other dogs– if they go out the front door of adoption, it’s because they got adopted, but going out the back means they are euthanized. I left knowing that ten or twelve puppies would be killed the next day to make room at the shelter. I was just glad my volunteers had left and didn’t know what I knew. They’ll come back next Saturday and think all those adorable little puppies got adopted. How I wish they had.
Whatever the first family winds up doing, whether they go with a shelter dog or not, I urge everyone to remember the animals in shelters when you are searching for a new pet. No, they don’t realize the fate you will save them from, but they will know that you have rescued them from a life of confusion and dreariness and given them love, love they will gladly return.

You O-lovers are just too much, LOL! You get mad and bent out of shape when the topic is O’s embarassing bowing, saying “why are we talking about this”, but when they are criticisms about discussing something so ridiculously insignificant about the dog, you say lighten up?
Sorry, doesn’t work that way. Your messiah has to take criticism too, as do you, and there is lots and lots of it.
Finally, they are bringing up the bowing issue when everyone else is talking about it, and THIS ISSUE IS FAR FROM OVER. It was embarassing and shameful to our America. But, while we are at it, why not talk about O’s embarassing and IGNORANT calling of “Austrian” as a language. You know if bush did that, it would be all over Leno and Letterman. But, with O, nope……. would be racist to mock the O in any way.
And how about Rove calling out Biden on his HUGE lie about Bush. I don’t really like Rove, but I got to give him credit, to calling out a liar. Biden is just freakishly deceptive, but, hey, he has to keep up with his boss.

decentAmerican:”Finally, they are bringing up the bowing issue when everyone else is talking about it, and THIS ISSUE IS FAR FROM OVER. It was embarassing and shameful to our America.”
To YOU’RE “Bring them on” America maybe. Most of America has no problem with talking softly and carrying a big stick (and getting bigger – they are ahead of schedule in adding 65,000 soldiers to the Army and 27,000 more Marines, and well supported by the Obama budget outline).
“And how about Rove calling out Biden on his HUGE lie about Bush”
The ONLY way that comment by Rove was not itself a lie or exageration was if Rove was with Bush literally every time he ever met Biden. Otherwise, it is as logically vacuous as an urban legend about a horrible murder that is sprinkled with details only the dead victim could know.

Note that the dog is being mentioned in a sidebar informal blog. None of my usual news sources is headlining it or anything. Life goes on – ballgames are played during wars, movie reviews written during hurricanes, and fluffy dog stories written during recessions. Not worth getting upset over, and it’s clearly not distracting the President from pushing forward on a number of policy fronts.

That you are suddenly so upset about it shows the power Drudge has over your perception of the importance of Iran’s recent announcement.

Ryan C, why do you keep talking about Drudge? I can find the story about Iran on any web site, except this one. Drudge doesn’t have any power over me. I look at a variety of web sites. ABC, Fox, Drudge, CNN. At the same time, there are threats out there, and if you don’t see Iran’s leadership as a threat, well that’s pretty naive. My point is that a dog story like this is not front page news.

“Ryan C, why do you keep talking about Drudge?”
Because like Pavlov’s pooch that is why you are yelling about the story.
“I can find the story about Iran on any web site, except this one.”
ROFLMAO!
Took me 5 seconds to find this article on ABC News
“US Dealings With Iran Remain on a Slippery Path”
“Drudge doesn’t have any power over me.”
Keep saying that and maybe one day you will believe it.

from ravenhair49: “Mary E. Here are some ideas – Obama resign, and someone with some idea on how to run this country take over, and I’m not talking about Biden.”
This is in the same category as the other things I mentioned – it isn’t going to happen – he isn’t going to resign so you may as well get used to him being there. i plan to watch him do what he was elected to do which is to try his best to pull us out of this mess – it can’t be any worse than the last 8 years. you may think so but how about giving him more than 2-3 months to work on it.

Obama needs to hurry and get a dog to divert attention away from his silence on the pirate issue and his bow to the king.
The MSM will be giddy with excitement covering Obama’s dog.
I can see Barry prancing around the grounds with his new dog–anything to show what a regular guy he is.

Karen Travers quotes M. Obama:
“They’ve even calmed down, because they feel like, ‘They said we’re going to get one, so let’s just shut up about it,’” she said.”
That’s also how The CHANGEling’s ADULT subjects are supposed to be put off, on peace in the mideast, total surveillance, trillions of secret dollars to the corporations, universal health care, and the like.
This smiley-face fascist confuses campaign performances with actual action.
As for the imperial pooch — who, like the garden, will be raised by the staff — watch Obama produce a dingo or hyena … that’s a “dog”, after His compulsive bait-and-switch “change”.

Good.
Obama is getting a dog.
Because he is going to need someone else to blame for his problems besides Bush.
Biden and Obama need to move on with their lives and let go of this obsession with blaming Bush–all in an attempt to make themselves look better.
With all of their gaffes I can see why those two are looking for excuses.

It is so sad to see the right-wingers attack a dog! Good grief! There were all kinds of media coverage of the Bush First Dog. I did not see you spouting your spam then. What hypocrites you are! But then when you right-wingers have no leadership but depend on the likes of Rush, Hannity, Beck, Billo, and Steele for “news.” it is no wonder you have become brain dead. Do any of you people ever exercise any critical thinking skills? Your posts certainly do not reflect that. You complain about the most nonsensical issues but fail to offer any constructive suggestions – you have become the party of talk radio and Faux Noise.

The Obamas will get a tough and smart dog, unlike the Bushes who had a not-tough and not-smart dog. It will not be afraid to speak truth to its master.
If pirates attack, the dog will show them who is boss while Barack sells cheap mortgages to the poor who have been cheated out of money that is rightfully theirs by evil corporations and bad bad banks.

Who is going to be the dog’s master? If the Obamas are having a dog trained by someone else right now (imo, that’s what’s going on), I hope they realize that being a dog’s master is generally not transferable. Why not just go get a puppy and let the girls train it and have fun.?

Is the breeder/trainer of this dog going to be put thru the same “big liberal government hell” that the woman breeder of Biden’s (German Shepherd) dog has been put through?
Her words: “never again” will she sell a dog to some alleged big shot. Has cost her thousands of dollars in legal fees to clear her name against the trumped-up charges filed against her, in anonymous complaints. A judge has thrown them all out, but only after she went to court, and has been inspected by PA officials 4 times since December.
Just foreshadowing of what’s to come to us all thanks to the big-government statists in the D. C. Liberal Mob.

RR GOP – do you have any critical thinking skills? You right-wingers have fallen into the same propaganda cycle you sprouted for the last 8 years. For those of us who campaigned our hearts out for Obama it has been a long devastating 8 years and we can finally be proud of our President and First Lady. Like many of us knew throughout the campaign and have come to know into the early days of this presidency, Republican ideology is as worthless as a sack of condoms in the Vatican. As many UK reporters have noted, the Obama’s took Europe by storm. You right-wingers have no recourse but to spew your rage and underlying jealousy – oh, for the repugs to be able to claim a leader like President Obama.
Republicans are making themselves irrelevant. The Republican Party is destroying itself, becoming a regional party, and a party without leadership. Note that most of their posts only put down our President and beautiful First Lady, and of course, an innocent little dog. They have no leaders to quote or to feel proud about. No leaders that make them feel so good inside, to instill in them the pride of country, to make them proud on the world stage. They are left with McCain, Palin, Rush, Sean, Billo, and Beck. Now who would not be angry about that?

Jake, sorry this is OT, but I believe French commandos have stormed and rescued yachts with French citizens held by pirates off Somalia on two occasions already.
Phillips offered himself as a hostage to save his crew, then tried to escape to no avail, as there was no U.S. Navy there as back up or to pick him up. Boy, this guy is soo on his own. I’m sorry.
The French message was, “If you do this to French citizens you’ll always pay a price”. A pirate told Reuters, “We are not afraid of the Americans.”
I guess they know about the layers of legal advice the U.S. ships have to go through before doing anything. While they sit there and wait, time is ticking. Obama’s not going to be able to distance himself from this for very long,
Seems a long, long time away from the day John Paul Jones said, “Give me a fast boat, for I intend to go into harm’s way.”
Free Capt. Phillips.

To funny…Obama is getting a dog as a way to Wag the Dog. And as lame as this is, Abc and other media lib sites keep running article after article about Obama getting the dog which is all about playing to his image than actually even wanting a dog. As the Clintons prepared to leave office, the secret service “accidently” ran over their dog and their cat was given away to an aide. If the Obama’s were dog people, they would have already owned a dog at some point. Duh ABC!!! Take some pitty on the poor dog.

Bravo to Jon Stewart for running the tape for those who hadn’t seen it. The tape is completely at odds with the ridiculous “bending over the short guy” story put out by Der One’s handlers.
That Obama bowed to the Saudi king, but not to the Queen of England is kind of a head-scratcher, but LYING about it is the REAL story.

Sadly, in this town, even a “first dog” seems to be of colossal interest. Frankly, there are those of in this town, minority to be sure or just mum about it, who are beginning to become nauseated with the entire First Family of Miracles. Some of us have been more interested in the hundreds of thousands spent on the little soirees held by the Obamas almost on a weekly basis but rarely mentioned during a time of economic crisis – with steak at $100/lb. The fact that this family is getting a dog is nothing in the scheme of things…the WH press corps is merely being patted on the head like “good stewards” and told what to print and why. None of you have a clue what the “real story” is. Would that Paul Harvey could give the rest of the story.

In the interest of U.S. National Security, remember to listen to a barking dog! Why? To you a wireless router may be a wireless router; to any dog under the age of 63 (in human years) it will be construed as object of interest in her or his proof it is not a toy. Objects of interest must be tested with all 4 paws and teeth to the detriment of wireless transmission towers stowed under the table/desk/entertainment console. It may not be a squeaky toy — but to a 14 inch puppy — it chews just as good. Put a shoe box over it — it should work! We know this because we spent 2 hours research all loose connections. Cat got off the hook. Dog is the guilty party. That’s just in case we have another major communications outage in the same time span Mobile Me is announcing an unplanned service outage. Puppy and chew toy (rubber coated wireless router) are doing fine now.

With all that is going on in the world.. all ABC can do is report on a dog?
Who cares
ABC glorifies everything that Obama does, while other media outlets report on real stories that concern the american people.
This is why I stopped watching ABC news again…. they just cannot stay on the real issues, they have to report on a dog.

The dog story is only meant to distract from the real news such as bad Obama is doing that media overseas is starting to broadcast it LOUDLY. Europeans know more about our wimp/crook of a president that we in America do now. So Abc continues to aid Obama’s Wag the Dog by doing stories about a dog. Truely pathetic ABC.

Spare me your liberal excuse.
The pirate thing started with 4 pirates in a life boat. Thirsty, hungry without any communications and without gas.
Days later, thanks to Obama and his negotiator, guess what they have. Food, water, a satelite phone which they called 4 other ships to assist and the latest….gas.
Oh, and I almost forgot, another hijacked boat with 20 some more hostages and it happens to be an American owned boat!!
There are two kinds of advisors willing to give Obama advice, diplomatical and military. We all know which one he is taking. What is it getting the situation? Nothing but worse.

Do any of you screaming for a US rescue of the hostage have any idea how difficult it is to storm a lifeboat with a single entrance on it to save a hostage. I’m a pirate that hostage is at the front of the lifeboat farthest away from the entrance. SEAL’s or any one else come in through that entrance and we have 4 AK’s pointed right at them, and unless we’re willing to give up men till the pirates run out of ammo, there is no way to come in there without someone getting killed. I’m sure the family of the hostage will be pleased and grateful that we tried and were successful in getting him killed in a stupid not really planned rescue attempt. If we didn’t care if he lived, then by all means storm that little lifeboat, but until there is a safe way to extract the hostage from that lifeboat, then keep biding time till the chance is there to get him safely.

I read that he was selfish in naming the dog “Bo” after himself.
