First Lady Marks 100th Day with Service

ABC News’ Yunji de Nies reports: The first lady marked the administration’s 100 days with an afternoon of volunteering at Washington’s Capital Area Food Bank. The first lady organized the event for more than 150 Congressional spouses and their children, in town for the Annual Congressional Club Luncheon. The group assembled bags of groceries for 1,000 students as part of the "Food for Kids" program. Dr. Jill Biden kicked off the event, praising the first lady for her commitment to community service. "This event is really a reflection of Michelle Obama and the administration," she said, "I can think of no better way than to celebrate the 100th day than to do a service event." Mrs. Obama said that she and Congressional spouses have a unique opportunity and obligation. "We have an opportunity to shine a bright light on service and the possibility of what service can do," she said. "One of the things that we can illustrate to the world is that it doesn’t take a lot to do something major. We’re gonna spend a couple hours of our time packing up food and it’s going to feed 1,000 children over the weekend." "I think it’s important for America to see you all here doing this and for us doing it together not as Republicans, Democrats, or Independents. There’s no ideology," she told the group. "All of us are people who care about our country and want to make service a core part of the work that we do." — Yunji de Nies

Wow, her 100th landed on the same day as POTUS’s 100th!

you mentioned the 100 women limited among only Democratic. That’s too bad and not fair. I think these women are sooooo beautiful, elegant and smart inside as well as outside, too. Sarah Palin’s milky skin and her dinamic energy(I saw her in the campaign trail), Beyonse, The Queen of Jordan Kingdom, Carri Prejean(Miss CA), Condi Rice, The Princess of Spain, Hillary Cliton, Hall Berry, Laura Bush and Angela Oh(Grey’s Anatomy). For me, tell the truth,Mrs. Obama is just smart and attractive first lady.

Like it or not, TV’s most expensive reality program, The Barack Obama Show, is hitting prime time again for its fourth episode Wednesday night, costing the networks a cool $10 million per hour in combined lost advertising revenue. Lucky them. It’s costing the rest of us a $1.8 trillion budget deficit this year alone.
The Barack Obama Show may be a prime-time mainstay, but like a daytime soap it has a tendency to repeat story lines. We can certainly hope the president will completely surprise us by saying, “I’m going to take a break from proposing any more grand projects for now. What’d everybody think of that guy stealing home in the Red Sox-Yankees game?”
It seems more likely, though, that he’ll fall into his usual habits of trying to sell an increasingly skeptical public on fantastically grandiose schemes using misdirection, twisted logic, straw men, and a simultaneous blend of reassurance and warning — a brand of feel-good alarmism — unique to this presidency.

Yes who wants to see a President answer questions when American Idol is on.
BTW, I think this presser will mean Obama has tied Bush in total primetime press conferences.

How is this impressive? A couple of hours, filled with camera flashes and carefully orchestrated sets.
Setting the stage for expecting working people to “give” till they’re bled white and exhausted. HR 1444. Read it on your own.
She’s a millionaire. Millionaires do this sort of PR stuff, to encourage the masses to “give till it hurts.”

Some background would be nice. Which food bank did Mrs. Obama volunteer at in Chicago?

mad:”Some background would be nice. Which food bank did Mrs. Obama volunteer at in Chicago? ”
Sigh, bitter and petty over even a fluff piece. The last time she volunteered at a food bank in Chicago (as opposed to a soup kitchen that served meals) it was Saint Columbanus Catholic Church on Thanksgiving and heavily covered. Happy? Perhaps you want penetrating followups about whether she washed her hands well enough or something?

I love the title says ‘first lady…’ What about adding Second Lady or Jill Biden? Like Michelle said, this happened because of both of them.
Give Biden credit. I know she doesn’t like to be in the spotlight but she deserves some appreciation as well.

Another fabulous day for our great new president and his dynamite wife. I just ignore the nattering nabobs of negativity on the right…they’re irrelevant.
