G-20 Report Card

President’s don’t always do so well on their first trip overseas but that doesn’t seem to be true in the case of President Barack Obama. Going into the G-20 meetings this week Obama wanted unity and action from the European governments and it appears that’s what he got. But it did come at a price. Obama had to scale back his ambitions somewhat, including accepting that the Europeans wouldn’t approve massive new spending to stimulate the global economy.

Keep in mind though, the administration may seem like they came out with a winning victory in part because they scaled back expectations in the days leading up to the summit.

Looking ahead to the foreign agenda and the president’s plan for Afghanistan, Obama seemed to forge a relationship this week with French President Nicolas Sarkozy. But again, look to a scaling back of expectations: while the French will not provide new troops to fight in Afghanistan, they will help by offering their police to aid in training Afghan police forces.

To get my full report card check out my appearance on Good Morning America this morning:

Without reading the article or viewing the video, I bet he is swooning over Obama. I bet he gives him praises.
I know the chorus line…
Kumbaya Obama
Kumbaya
Kumbaya Obama
Kumbaya

There is no need to sing Kumbaya Obama, because he did very well. You racist in America want to see him fail, but that want happen. He has the support of most Americans and is doing very well as President of the USA.

Maybe you need to go over to FOX Network, that is where you get your Kumbayas for Hannity, and O’Rielly. That is the kind of message you like to hear. There is hope for American and President Obama is giving it to us.

yolanda are you a racist ? your the one who brought race up i dont hear any one else bringing it up

P.S. Yolanda, the “you’re racist” if you don’t support Obama thingy dingy is getting old. You need some new talking points or something.

Posted by: Kitty | April 3, 2009, 8:59 am 8:59 am

Fox is calling you. Go over to the favorite racist station in America and hear what you want to hear about the President. It is always negative about him and his family.

Posted by: Yolonda | April 3, 2009, 9:02 am 9:02 am

I dont’ care if you support the President, but have respect for him. YOu people are the most racist I have every seen. You all have come out of your protective closets and set about american and web because you can’t stand seeing a Black Man in the White House. Get over it, he is here for a while.

Yolanda,
Just because someone does not like Obama or his policies does not make them a racist!!!!!

The answer is how many of those 20 countries us the “dollar” to describe their currency? Only us.
I’m not saying that we will be the only one paying. I just want to know what percent of the bill do we tack on our already overtaxed taxpayers.
One thing Obama can do very well, spend money.
To Yolonda: Maybe you would be better suited to go hang out at Comedy Central at either the Daily Show or the Cohert Report to get your talking points and spoonfed propoganda.

Yolanda, perhaps you should take your own advice and “get over it”. As long as Obama is president, his supporters are going to have to accept that he will be made fun of and criticized. It’s kinda funny that you think you can stop it. Dream on girl.

Posted by: Kitty | April 3, 2009, 9:18 am 9:18 am

See, Yolanda you think you are smarter than you actually are. I didn’t drink anything Bush was serving. In your lil pea brain, if someone doesn’t support Obama, they must have supported Bush. You are just so wrong, Yolanda. You are dismissed because it is clear that you have an agenda and think you know. You don’t know, Yo.

Why do you people think Obama is doing so GREAT? By the time he finishes with this country we will be Bankrupt. Also I hear his little peeps are calling and asking for Donations and also wanting people to sign a petition standing by him. Why ask for money the media got him elected let them donate.

Posted by: GG | April 3, 2009, 9:39 am 9:39 am

The US status in the financial affairs of the world was reduced(pointedly),we pay for huge IMF and World Bank inflows, the dollar is pilloried (although nicely) and no one else ponies up stimulus. Not sure how that is a success.
It was an ok summit because everyone knew that it had to be. What do we think 20 guys did in one day anyway?
They knew the outcome going in so expectations could be set for everyone. Although, I would really like it if George wouldn’t declare victory everytime the President opens his mouth.
Once again the President delivers on very low expectations and is declared successful, I wish my job let me define what level of lack of failure was ok on a daily basis.

Enough already! all of you can go to your rooms and think about it for a while. News is being made – look to the future – forget your old arguments, they are dead in the water. If racism exists, it is because all of you keep it going by whining about it instead of going to work to make sure it’s dead (that is, if yo and Kitty just shut up about it you will do our President and the rest of us a big favor. What are you trying to prove anyway? We’re over it, how about you??) Get away from your computer and do something worth talking about! That will make real news that everyone can be happy about.

GG: for your information, he has not asked for money but support for his plans. By the way Hannity’s crowd is having teas to drum up support for their agenda which I cannot quite figure out yet. After what I heard Rush said on his show with his potty mouth….you should be ashamed to even criticize anything Obama says. If this is the voice of Republicanism….I want no part of it.

Posted by: talmag | April 3, 2009, 12:03 pm 12:03 pm

I also think many do not like Obama for obvious reasons but cannot admit it. It’s a shame that we cannot admire his hard work in a few months, his ideas, which are way ahead and what our future should be looking toward, his ability to bring people together. How come you have not mentioned the fact that he is not taking any money to use for decorating the White House which he is entitled to but he will pay for it out of pocket to save us some money. Not mentioned by any of you. How come you don’t bring up the fact that he settled a dispute between France and Germany quietly in a corner and had them come to an agreement. No, you don’t want to talk about these things….what great Americans you are.

Posted by: talmag | April 3, 2009, 12:08 pm 12:08 pm

Does anyone remember what other countries thought about us the last 8 years? Yeah, we’re a great country, but we’ve always needed allies – I think Obama has begun to turn people in Europe around – hopefully some of the hate and scorn for the U.S. will go away. Then maybe we can get rid of some of that hate and scorn in our own country? Hope so.

talmag–”GG: for your information, he has not asked for money but support for his plans”— WHAT??? He hasn’t asked for money?? Lets see, 800 billion in “stimulus” that hasn’t stimulated anything ( unemployment is up again for the 4th straight month), the largest budget in US history, Now he has committed more money to the World bank (that comes from us too), taxes are going UP, credits for charitable donations are going down, if he gets cap and trade passed, it will mean a 50 to 150% increase in your fuel and electric bills… And you say he hasn’t ASKED FOR MONEY???? then again, maybe your right.. he didn’t ASK for it, he just took it…

What hard work? The hard work of socializing a nation, of completely disregarding the constitution by government takeover aqnd control of private business the passage of taxation laws (90% for the AIG bonuses) that are in direct violation of article 1 of our constitution? How about his promise to cut out pork – his stimulus and budget both set records for it.. How about his promise to post bills on teh web before they are voted on ( the stimulus was voted on the same day it was reconciled.. many in congress did not even read it. No lobbists in positions of authority.. He has three in his cabinet.
the best thing you can allude to is his lack of acceptance of money to re-decorate the white house… He just pushed a 3.8 trillion dollar budget on top of a 800 billion dollar “stimulus” package.. and you are prowd that he is not wasting money by redecorating the WH??? tell me that comment was meant as a joke….please

Well, barry O definately continued the long-standing liberal tradition when overseas of “blaming America first” for everything wrong with the world.
Nevermind that America has singlehandedly given more $$$ to Africa’s AIDS releif programs and helped secure more peace around the world for MILLIONS of people than any other nation in history.
Liberals are still convinced that America is fundamentally wrong in nearly every foreign and domestic policy it has implemented since its inception.
Actually, liberal policies have contributed to the deaths of MILLIONS in Vietnam after America withdrew too early, and MILLIONS all over the world when the communist regimes took over.
Liberals want to give hugs to mass murderers and send olive branches to holocaust deniers, but have no problem calling Bush a terrorist.
Barry and the rest of the “rev wright mentality” should be shipped to cuba to live instead of trying to make us the United Socialist States of America.

Well said Jill — well said indeed..
Debbie.. You say, education is a good thing, then write a post with more errors than a Pee-wee league baseball game… the 1.2 trillion was what Obama promised to give at the G20 meeting..It had absolutely NOTHING to do with Bush.
Bush actually increased the debt by 4.5 trillion over 8 years..Obama’s stimulus and budget (for just this year alone) are projected to add 9.3 trillion more in debt over the next 10 years. In one time spending, his initial debt to the economy is equal to half the 8 year total of Bush in his first 6 months..
Education is nice.. you should try it sometimes…

Obama’s race is what helped him win the election, so if anything, His skin color helps him and you guys throwing the racist card around is getting old.

What is more important is what is going on with the banks. The fact that CitiGroup recommends to us to sell our bank stock so they can buy back their own stock at a fraction of what it was worth and that the banking industry now wants to buy their own worthless toxic loans under Geithener’s dollar-for-dollar 97% backed buy out program has serious implications. The G20 activity fits in with Goldwater’s prediction of a one world government conspiracy.
Barry Goldwater was right 40 years agom, there is an economic conspiracy going on here. Check it out at http://www.pragmaticstatistic.blogspot.com

Progress is gradual. This is definitely a good start.Would he have wanted instant results on all agenda – more troops than civilian help, more stimulus than IMF help, yes? But diplomacy is an ongoing agenda and strategy. Are there some things he could have done better? Yes. Is he better than his predecessor? Each man and woman has to answer that themelves.
For some others, its koolaid, whine, teleprompter (which is nothing but electronic notes) inspite of the hordes of press conferences, blamed us then praised us (even though he had to acknowledge some obvious truths for the defenses and praises he mounted to be taken seriously – the rest of the world are no fools and many whiners here have never been outside these shores).

I think this trip was a failure. He called Americans arrogant — thanks Obama! In other words, he blamed the world’s woes on us… He didn’t get the monetary policy he desperately wanted. He allowed other leaders to set the agenda. He caved on money. He caved on Russia (in terms of dealing with Iran being what we need to do, but instead, hey, we’ll talk arms reduction with a country that still has troopos in Russia and is now setting the agenda there), he bowed obsesqiously to the Saudi ruler, he didn’t get the troops in Afghanistan he wants and needs and he looked like an utter fool without his teleprompter when answering a question from a UK journalist.
But boy, the Europeans liked him! and they think Michelle is a good dresser. I guess that’s all we need to make the trip a success. Forget how we look weak and insipid.

Do all the Challenges to the US (at the moment) mean that the world does not respect Obama. They didn’t challenge Bush to this degree ever, and when they did challenge him he let them know he would not put up with it – Showing what it means to have a strong leader.
At least so far (and maybe in reality) Obum is a weakling. Will he let the world run over us (is that why the world favored him SO much)………………… You see you Infantile Liberals; Bush was rising to the occasion (and McCain would have also) more than you would have ever known, ‘Otherwise’…… Now we have a wimp (giving in to the world on so many diffirent fronts). These are the Same people who ‘sat by’ and let (or actually caused) WWI, WWII, The Cold War and the Former Yugoslavia happen (the former Yugoslavia is a ‘special case’ that proves that Europeans are ‘Clueless’ even about their Own History — WWI did start there and when it flared up this most recent time they Still could not ‘come together’ and solve the problem, even with the other Recent Historical Examples as guideposts. They just sat there and screamed for the US to come save them again……… Then when 1/10th as much help is asked of them in Iraq & Afghanistan they cry like Babies. —- Great World Partners they are!!!)……

Bush had no clue of backbone. When things got tough he hid behind his minions and now that the american people want justice for the crimes under his watch we will see what kind of backbone he shows. My bet is that he will shove his devoted followers under the bus. Bush lost all international respect when he began violating the Geneva convention. That document has served to protect all americans who have served since it was evoked. This man has no honor and now that the world has seen a new american president willing to listen and work with them and you call that weak. I would have to conclude that you also advocate breaking the law and violating international treaties.

I was frankly astounded by the lack of insight about Obama’s trip to Europe on display in your roundtable, George. It sounded like a neo-con kaffeeklatsch. Who are these people kidding? I don’t expect much more from George Will or from…Frum, but Martha Raddatz ought to know better. The whole game has changed, and it isn’t about getting Europeans to send a bunch of troops to Afghanistan. And there never was a big push by Obama leading up to the trip to get serious internal economic stimulus packages guaranteed by the Europeans. In the last weeks that mantra became a figment of reporters’ imaginations. (As Obama and others have pointed out, Europeans already invest far more in there economies than we do by the nature of their social safety net.) And George Will’s pedantry about how there is always going to be conflict was inane. It isn’t about “conflict” it’s about short and long term interests, which can lead to conflict. It has always (underlined) been a matter of state interest. But Obama is looking so much further down the road than any of the last three administrations (make that four)it’s silly. Nobody expected miracles, just reason. That we got in abundance. Fortunately, your guests are only spectators.

Posted by: BL | April 5, 2009, 4:37 pm 4:37 pm

George is about the only one saying that the trip is a success. It is laughable how some of these bloggers spin Obama’s “saving us money” on White House decorations but spend millions to go sign the stimulus in Denver when the pens in Washington work just as good, millions more to be on Jay Leno when Leno would have gladly done his show in DC, say how we have to be fiscally responsible and not tell Congess to throttle back on earmarks or appropriate more in two months in office that the past three presidents did in the previous 19 years. That Kool-Aid must be laced with LSD.
Unlike rational adults the radical liberals around here, including the media are afraid to admit that this is all out of whack, just as greedy republicans looked the other way when Frank and Dodd, Raines and AIG were raping and pillaging the financial system. It is more of the same by Obama, Pelosi and Reid in broad daylight and either liberals are too stupid to see it, don’t care if their kids suffer, or don’t want to admit that Obama and his Illinois/Clinton cronies are more of the same and not the change we can believe in. It’s hard for everyone to admit mistakes and it is impossible for some

Sorry BL about the only thing that Obama is looking forward at is Monday night’s NCAA Final and his next talk show booking. I truly think that he doesn’t much care what he accomplishes over the next 4 years. He will either get 4 more years of a private plane and helicopter or a 500 million dollar library or foundation and 200 million in speaking tours and book deals.
This trip did not show any foresight on his part as to the world view. Wise up
