POTUS on AF1 incident: ‘Mistake … Won’t Happen Again’
President Obama just spoke about the Air Force One incident in a photo op with FBI Director Robert Mueller.
"It was a mistake, as was stated. It was something we found out about along with all of you. And it will not happen again."
President Obama didn’t answer a follow-up question on whether the head of White House Military Office, Louis Caldera, is the right man for the job.

I’m sure George Soros, John Stewart, Keith Olbermann, and half of Hollywood had a blast on their 100 Day Obama Victory Lap around Lower Manhattan.
Did POTUS send TOTUS on the joyride, too?? He’s earned it.

Obama hired Louis Caldera to the position.
Louis Caldera was on the board of directors IndyMac bank as it collapsed last year.
Obama hired him. Caldera was army secretary under Clinton.
It was Obama’s choice to hire Caldera.
And a newspaper in australia the age is reporting Obama won’t fire caldera.
Of course the media who is asleep at the wheel isn’t asking why Obama is not firing Caldera.
Caldera should have never been hired by Obama and now he is being fired.
The Obama white house contacted a bloomberg aide who was in charge of parades. This was utter incompetence.
Gibbs is also incompetent for not knowing that the EU minister said not to travel to new york.
This NYC event happened at 10 a.m and gibbs was lost in the afternoon press conference.
Posted by: Seth | April 28, 2009, 11:50 am 11:50 am
Caldera also planned a military excercise alongside the photo op that is why the panic lasted for 30 minutes.
If Bush had done this the press would be saying why isn’t the person responsible for this being replaced.
The fact that Caldera was involved with a bank that collapsed last year and was hired would have set off alarm bells with the press if this had happened under bush.
At today’s white house breifing they would be saying why isn’t he being fired.
Obama isn’t being open. He isn’t announcing directly to the public the decision he made not to fire the person who was responsible for this.

Get over it haters…it’s a new day!

There is no way this was a photo-op. What? Did they have some guy on the ground taking pics with a 35mm camera? Something very serious was going on, and the Whitehouse is covering it up. So is the media.

Interesting-usually the anti-Obama crabbing shows up early morning on most blogs, the counter statements by his supporters show up later in the day. So, either the anti-Obama crowd is retired, non-working slackers, or putting in their gripes while on the job (dishonest). The counter statements coming from the center and left are the people who work and pay taxes and get on their pc once they get home.

Hey lefties, how much did Obama’s Photo op cost?
Which, of course, according to Obama he just found out about yesterday afternoon.
What a baffoon.
The report was prepared at the request of Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) while Democrats were in the minority. (Waxman is now chairman ofthe committee). Entitled “THE COST OF PRESIDENTIAL AND VICE
PRESIDENTIAL POLITICAL TRAVEL,” the report was clearly intended to criticize President Bush and Vice President Cheney’s extensive travel around the country to campaign for Republicans in the midterm elections.
It reads in part: “This report assumes that flight operating costs are $56,518 per hour for Air Force One and $14,552 per hour for Air Force Two. These figures are based on the perhour cost figures cited by GAO for fiscal year 2000, adjusted for inflation.”

I can bet that those of you who are sooooo upset about that plane over New York haven’t spent one minute denouncing the fact that thousands of Americans have been killed or injured because Bush took us into Iraq on a calculated and purposeful lie. Give your outrage a little perspective!

Posted by: Astro1 | April 28, 2009, 12:15 pm 12:15 pm
With operating costs over $60,000.00 per hour to fly Air Force One it would have only seemed reasonable to do that fly-over during an actual use of the plane rather than just a dry run for no apparent reason. Air Force One doesn’t need exercise. With all that has happened surrounding 911 it should have been noted publicly in the media. The American public should have been notified so all could share and enjoy the photo op.

To all lefties whining that bush sucks so it doesnt matter what obama did yesterday:
Think about this:
Since a few months after 9/11, the Dems have consistently vilified Bush for using RHETORIC which caused Americans to be afraid. On and on and on, Bush is the devil because he used rhetoric which caused fear.
Now we have Obama, within the first 100 days, STRIKING ACTUAL FEAR OF DEATH FROM TERRORIST ATTACK IN THE HEARTS OF AMERICANS, CAUSING PANIC IN THE STREETS OF NYC AND BUILDING EVACUATIONS.
that is ACTUAL fear. Caused by Obama. ACTUAL FEAR OF DEATH.
Somehow lefties can’t find the strength of character to criticize the Dear Leader Obama for doing more to strike ACTUAL FEAR OF DEATH FROM TERRORIST ATTACK INTO THE HEARTS OF AMERICANS THAN BUSH DID FROM 9/11 TO PRESENT.
GREAT JOB OBAMA!
GOOD THING YOU BROUGHT SUCH INTELLIGENCE AND ACUMEN TO THE OVAL OFFICE SO AS TO SIMULATE A TERRORIST ATTACK ON NYC !!!!!!

They use it to justify every mistake and lamebrained decision that Obama makes.
It gives him a pass to bankrupt the country, out the CIA, bow to the Saudis, trash America, and terrify 9/11 victims.

Yes, hundreds of thousands, AT LEAST, IF NOT MILLIONS, were scared to death by President Obama yesterday.

And another thing about this photo-op disaster. Yes it was unfortunate and insensitive to N.Y. regarding 911 but Obama has owned up to it with his apology. Now let’s compare George W. Bush and his “Mission Accomplished” photo-op disaster. Since Bush’s milked every second of his aircraft carrier landing and staged speech over 5,000 American soldiers have died. No apology ever from Bush. Sure Bush lamented that he wish he had done it differently but never an apology. America is a much better place with the neo-con nut jobs out of power. God Bless America, coming from me that means a lot!

hopesprings52:”This was an outrageous mistake. Obama should can the bozo that gave the go-ahead for this.”
I place the blame on the local authorities or no one. The New York Mayors office WAS NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE. The New York Police Department WAS NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE. These local authorities raised no concerns – the mayoral aide didn’t even feel it necessary to notify the mayor.
If there was incompetence, it was at the local level. They were properly notified and given a chance to raise any concerns. It’s their job to identify contingencies like this and they missed it entirely.

I work here in lower Manhattan, and yes, my floor did the evacuation when we saw the plane look like it was heading for our building. It really did seem we were under attack, especially when the 747 circled, followed closely by a fighter jet. If it was a “photo shoot”, why the hard banks? Found out it was also a “training excercise.” Questions to ask: why a photo shoot/training excercise on a Monday morning in downtown Manhattan without notifing the workers in the area? Did they honestly think we wouldn’t notice? It circled several times and did hard banks. It lasted longer than 15 minutes, more like a half hour. What if someone miscalculated, equipment malfunctioned, or birds were injested into the jets? There would have been bodies all over the place. Why haven’t the jerks who “authorized” this been fired? There is much more to this story than what we are told. Unfortunately, it will probably be many years before the truth finally comes out.

I agree. People were really frightened. A sincere apology would be a really nice gesture.

HEY, ITS COOL, YOU WANT TO BUY INTO OBAMA’S LIES, ITS YOUR RIGHT AS AN AMERICAN.

THAT IS A FALSE STATEMENT BECAUSE THE NOTICES FROM THE WH CAME WITH THE INSTRUCTION THAT THE INFORMATION WAS CLASSIFIED AND ANYONE BREACHING THAT EDICT WOULD BE PROSECUTED.
INCONVENIENT FACTS — OBAMA ORDERED SECRECY AND ACTS SURPRISED WHEN PEOPLE FEAR DEATH BECAUSE OF HIS ACTIONS CAUSING A SIMULATION OF THE 9/11 ATTACKS TO GET A PHOTO OP DONE.
WHAT A JOKE.

[Apologies if this double-posts.]
If Bush did this, would all these Obama-behind-kissers be ok with it? Because it’s wrong on so many levels no matter your political affiliation: 1) why doesn’t the president know what his staff is doing?!? 2) unnecessary Air Force One flights, with or without photography, are a huge waste of taxpayer money, especially in the midst of an economic crisis – not to mention the conflict with his whole “green” agenda 3) terrorizing the same citizens who witnessed and may still suffer from the 9/11 attack and then offering a limp quasi-apology without disciplinary action shows just how important those Americans’ experiences are to the current administration.
Will someone please defend the Great One without mentioning the name “Bush” or any aspect of the past administration? Let’s see a defense against O’s clear failure to be a leader (in the three above points, and in general) based solely on his own knowledge, decisions, and actions – or consistent lack thereof. Can any Obamaphile defend this incident away intelligently? A curious Obamaphobe wants to know…
[Silky - there were nearly 1 million tea partiers nationwide on Tax Day - I think 700K to 800K is the final count. If you got your news from anything that wasn't liberal-filtered, you'd know that. IT IS COMMON KNOWLEDGE WILLIAM. WSJ:
As secret missions go, this one was a flop.
On Monday morning, one of the 747s used to ferry around the U.S. president was dispatched to the Statue of Liberty, escorted by a fighter jet. Assignment: Get some fresh glamour shots of the plane.
The Air Force said the flight needed to remain confidential. So while New York police knew about it, as did at least one person in the mayor’s office, regular New Yorkers remained in the dark.

WHO…the hell…has anything against AirForce1 flying ANYWHERE or WHEREVER it darn well wants to??!! Are the people of NYC or ANYWHERE in the USA so shaky and nervous that they panic when they see a plane in the air? Good grief!

They did NOT make a single comment of concern about the upcoming flyby. None of them – local New York residents – saw any potential problem. If the police chief had said “bad idea” to the Air Force, this would have been canceled on the spot.

Was one of the Bin Laden clan on that flight? Taxpayers paid for that flight over North Dakota, why won’t Republicans come clean about who was on board? Advertising for our armed forces is not wasted money. Flight time to ensure our pilots remain the best in the world is not wasted money. Are you stating that Obama should put a freeze on the Air Force training budget? Perhaps you’re concerned about all that money Navy SEAL snipers waste shooting at the target range too.
Complaining about the cost is so transparently partisan it undermines any legitimate grievances that exist over this exercise.

It definitely was stupid and I am sure the President did not know about it and didn’t approve it. Besides, this should have been publicized well in advance if it was truly a training exercise with a “bonus” photo op (we knew in advance about exercises in South Korea’s seas but not in NYC??).

So it was for Jet magazine, or it was a training mission , or it was to update file photo’s of Air Force One.

The reason for the secrecy –instead of just telling the news that a 747 would be flying low around the city with F16s in pursuit — is apparently that White House and Air Force pols were out on a junket. Demand the manifest.

I believe Pres. Obama did not know about this and yes I agree it was scary, I live in the NYC area, and I can imagine the fright people felt when they saw that plane…That being said the NYPD knew about it, why didn’t they say something to prevent it? AND like another blogger said people should be more upset over the fact that Bush sent thousands to Iraq to be killed and injured for no reason.

Lin Taylor:”Besides, this should have been publicized well in advance if it was truly a training exercise with a “bonus” photo op (we knew in advance about exercises in South Korea’s seas but not in NYC??).”
Not much of a good advertising bit for the Air Force if it’s a cargo plane. And why not use the backup VC-25 and get in some accurate formation practice?
As for publicizing it ahead of time, the local mayor’s office and police department didn’t think it necessary. It also may have been a bit of a bad idea to hang out banners about it – “Chance to shoot down the president’s plane over New York, one day only! Bring your RPGs and pick up an extra Barrett M82 on the way over! Have the jihad of your life!”

A better follow up question: Is Obama the right man for the job. So far this guy is excellent at putting the blame elsewhere, but in this case, there are no excuses. He allowed a national resource under his direct command and capable of mass destruction to be commanded by an irresponsible person and, allegedly, without his (Obama’s) knowledge. The best of NY Post’s very extensive list!
1. “Obama criticized pork barrel spending in the form of ‘earmarks,’ urging changes in the way that Congress adopts the spending proposals. Then he signed a spending bill that contains nearly 9,000 of them, some that members of his own staff shoved in last year when they were still members of Congress. ‘Let there be no doubt, this piece of legislation must mark an end to the old way of doing business, and the beginning of a new era of responsibility and accountability,’ Obama said.”
3. This year’s budget deficit: $1.5 trillion.
4. Asks his Cabinet to cut costs in their departments by $100 million — a whopping .0027%!
And the list goes on and on. 100 points long, and the NYP could have added more to it.
11. The picture of Obama and Hugo Chavez shaking hands.
12. Hugo Chavez gave him the anti-American screed “The Open Veins of Latin America.” Obama didn’t remark upon it. At least it wasn’t DVDs.
And, of course:
20. “Yes, Canada is not Mexico, it doesn’t have a drug war going on. Nonetheless, to the extent that terrorists have come into our country or suspected or known terrorists have entered our country across a border, it’s been across the Canadian border. There are real issues there.” — Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. The 9/11 hijackers did not come across the Canada border.
And then there is this one:
24. Rasmussen finds 58% of Americans believe the Obama administration’s release of CIA memos endangers the national security of the United States.

I’m shocked that so many here think the President keeps tabs on the Air Force planes and day-to-day operations. No, the pair of planes designated as Air Force One aren’t parked outside the oval office so Obama can keep an eye on them. These planes can be anywhere at any given time and used for any reason. Do you really think Obama checks his blackberry regularly to monitor routine Air Force activities? He has a great big group of people, called the Air Force, to handle this information for him. The President is trying to manage the largest issues the world has faced in many decades, and to think he knew about the flyover beforehand is ridiculous. The person in Bloomberg’s office who didn’t bother telling the mayor needs to be flogged and fired, as well as the idiots in the Air Force who did not foresee the fear this event would inflict on the already traumatized New Yorkers.

jhw539 – again, I hear you and generally agree with your points (and also want to thank you for actually having a intelligent points rather than just arguing blindly like a lot of the others supporting this action).
If the only way the Air Force can advertise is by scaring civilians, maybe they need to stop advertising :P We have National Guard Humvees with big stickers that show the website and phone numbers parked along the road (inside the fence, of course) at our local armory – no civilians were harmed or frightened.
And the secrecy required to do a training exercise with AF-1 is all the more reason why this whole endeavor was completely illogical. “OK, let’s fly a large jet and 2 fighters right around where the WTC used to stand and not tell anyone about it.” No one thought that sounded a little… insensitive? Nightmarish?

I am laughing my ass off at some people. ok i can understand where some might see the plane and get apprehensive and have a bit of fear…
But come on people use some common sense. First you can CLEARLY see that the plane is painted in the Presidents colors. Second, anyone that would take a moment BEFORE panicking would also realize that unless the thing is headed right for you, you are not in danger. If it is OVER you, by the time it hit the ground, it would be well past you.
But here is an even bigger clue.. It had a fighter plane right on its wing and six… don’t you think it would have been shot down LONG before it ever got to the city were it hostile? I mean come on, get real. This is a NON story and it is being blown WAY out of proportion by people who panicked and did not take a moment to think and use a little common sense. If people would not just assume all the time, perhaps then we could look at things as they were… simply accidents or mistakes that we humans make.
But no, we will make a big deal out of nothing, people will scream and hem and haw until someone looses their job to appease all those that are so ‘fearful’ of any little thing out of place. Too bad all those same people do not put this kind of effort into taking care of our Veterans… maybe then they would not be living on the streets and struggling just to pay for food and a place to live. Could you imagine that!
But no, we will instead put all our efforts into some stupid story about this instead.

Time for Republicans and Conservatives to follow the polices of former Pres. Bush:
Just before launching his invasion of Iraq, President Bush went on national television to issue an ultimatum to Saddam Hussein, urging him to leave his country within 48 hours. Bush also had this message for “all Iraqi military and civilian personnel”:
War crimes will be prosecuted, war criminals will be punished and it will be no defense to say, “I was just following orders.”

The reason for the secrecy –instead of just telling the news that a 747 would be flying low around the city with F16s in pursuit — is apparently that White House and Air Force pols were out on a junket. Demand the manifest.

Not just them.
THIS WAS AN OBAMA DONOR AND SUPPORTER PAYOFF.
THIS WAS A 100 DAY VICTORY LAP AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE.
I agree. Obama needs to release the manifest.

So.. if it’s an accepted ‘fact’ here by some that Obama as president knows about everything happening by all staffers 24×7, no matter how far removed from his official duties….
it then follows that Bush knew and was complicit in torture policies that are illegal, and should be proscecuted….

Can we please have a release of the passenger manifest that were sight seeing on Air Force One? I think there is so much more to this story. Was HBO on board filming? Was Michele on it? This cannot be just a photo opt…

Bingo. The Mayor’s office did not think it sounded insensitive. The NYPD did not think it sounded insensitive. I don’t think it sounded insensitive, nor my friends who live near the Columbus Circle stop ‘Hell’s Pantry’ area.
They were flying around the Statue of Liberty, which isn’t that unusual except for the size of the plane. The appropriate people had a chance to forsee this, they didn’t, life goes on. Most New Yorkers don’t care that much.

If Obama supporters think this is a coincidence, there will be no sympathy for you when he literally rules the airwaves. (Did you see the great article on his huge teleprompter malfunction yesterday? Yeah, they didn’t write it. But if Bush did it…)

I’m shocked that so many here think the President keeps tabs on the Air Force planes and day-to-day operations.
—————-
I just heard a former secret service guy interviewed who said there is no way that the Chief of Staff and Pres did not know about this.
They had to clear the Pres. schedule and make sure he was not traveling in order to put one of the AF1 planes in use. In addition, secret service associated with the president and his staff would have a running update on the status in case of an emergency need to return the plane.
The pres and co. were well aware.
They lie to claim they found out when we did, it is a ludicrous assertion.
They are covering up the true use of the plane. Payoff joyrides for campaign supporters and donors!

just to be fair, I’m on the progressive side of the dial, and this incident is about as dumb as dumb gets….. according to the story N.Y officials were alerted, but why weren’t the radio, TV outlets and newspapers given the story to ease public anxiety?…… if they were given the story why didn’t they alert NYC citizens the days before the fly over?
I’d be up for this bozo who decided to do this sitting in front of a large LCD screen for about 48 hours and watching the entire Sept 11th day over and over…..and over…………

jhw539 – I’ve heard and tend to believe that the decision not to notify the public came from the same folks in DC who planned this disaster in the first place, so citing the NYC mayor and police seems more or less irrelevant. They weren’t permitted to release details. So no, the insensitivity falls entirely in the lap of the flight’s planner.
At the very least, it would have been nice if the AF had told NYC officials “Um, tell the public we’re going to be flying some planes around some day soon, and not to panic.” Or something. Anything beats sending these people running out of buildings (don’t forget they SAW the planes coming and couldn’t get out of the way fast enough, so this was “once bitten…”)
We need more details, but I have to say that it appears the administration dropped the ball on this one.
Posted by: Lin Taylor | April 28, 2009, 2:03 pm 2:03 pm
MNM, you’re absolutely right. I was on the Logistics team that pre-staged the arrival of Air Force 1 with fuel and replacement parts should they be needed. There is ALWAYS a backup for the President and another plane is in the air when the President is on the ground in what may be considered as “Hostile” ground.
The secret Service knew, the WH Chief of Staff knew and so did the President.
Nice try, Mr. President, but no cigar!

dr john: I might agree that my comments were insensitive… if this was not so ridiculous. First, flights of Air Force Once equipped planes ARE classified period. Imagine the security issues if everyone knew all the details and so forth. Next, 9/11 occurred almost 8 years ago!!!!!!
This is not a year or two after it occurred. Time passes and LIFE GOES ON and to have this kind of reaction, this kind of ‘fear’ this long after 9/11 is just bordering on .. heck I do not even know what to call it.
You called me insensitive? So be it. What do you call every American that so conveniently forgets about taking care of returning Veterans, especially those disabled and needing help? I call those people insensitive.
But no, the way this country has now become, everyone lives in their own little bubble and unless something directly impacts their secret little life, their little organized space in this world, they make no effort to do the right thing nor help anyone in need. There are still some people who DO care and DO try to help. But with 300 million in this country, the few thousand that do try to make a difference and the few thousand that try to keep our individual constitutional rights intact are fighting alone and uphill because all we can worry about is whether the person who made a MISTAKE will be fired or not.
Insensitive? Nah. Ridiculous issue? Yes. People not using ANY common sense? Right on.
It is time to GET OVER IT PEOPLE. We will never forget, but that does not mean we have to live with this kind of fear until the day we die. At least I have NO intention of doing that. Will it happen again? Maybe, maybe not. But you cannot do anything about it.
If your time is up, your time is up. I prefer to LIVE each day and ENJOY each day, not run in fear because something looks out of place and I MIGHT get hurt or even be killed because of it… and I especially will not do it without using some COMMON SENSE first to figure out what is going on BEFORE panicking.

It is not so simple as just knowing his schedule.
For a pre-planned event such as this “photo-op” they had to assure he would not make any plans.
Are you claiming the President waits to be told what to do each day and is incapable of an independent decision.
I know he is quite the moron, but I bet even his own staff could not be sure he would keep his schedule clear for this pre-palnned event.
Especially when it is a donor payoff. If not he can prove otherwise by telling us who was on board.

Regardless, I AM ex-mil and he does NOT control when or where those planes fly. In fact, only the secret service, the unit responsible for the places (i.e. maintenance, security, etc) and the Air Force higher ups have ANY knowledge in this regard. USE SOME COMMON SENSE. ( man I keep saying that and no one is listening ). COMMON SENSE PEOPLE. Not only does President Obama NOT have the time to deal with something as trivial as WHERE AF 1 or 2 is located, it is just not even possible.
AF 1/2 are used for MORE than just flying him around. But of course those who THINK they know what they are talking about do not seem to know this fact.
AF 1/2 are used to fly other government officials and dignitaries as well, not just the President. That is why it is NOT called Air force One all the time. Instead it is called VC25 when not in Presidential use. Even the Vice President uses it for travel.
President Obama does not have anything to do with when the plane flies or where it goes UNLESS he is aboard. PERIOD.

Todd, you keep making my argument about lack of sensitivity. I sort of think Obama would laugh at those New Yorkers who were frightened by the sight. Maybe Obama’s laughing at Mike Bloomberg who is outraged at what happened. Maybe Obama is laughing at Brian Williams, who also took this seriously. Lin Taylor:” these points are valid and need to be addressed.”
They have been addressed to most people’s satisfaction. Most people accept that keeping track of the status of the airplanes, helicopters, and limos used to provide presidential transportation is delegated and just doesn’t belong on Obama’s daily radar.
The confirmation that the NY city mayor’s office was notified in advance, and that the NYPD was notified in advance, and did not raise any concerns about the flight also closes the ‘whose fault is it’ question for most.

You don’t tell us anything. The fact remains that two functional, available AF1 planes are to be available when the president travels. If one is being used for campaign donor payoffs they keep close tabs on it just in case an emergency arises and it needs to back in place as the back up plane.
You can’t have it both ways. You claim one is always in maintenance and I claim 2 must always be present and accounted for if Pres needs to travel.
Posted by: MNM | April 28, 2009, 2:26 pm 2:26 pm
So here are the arguments for defending OBama:
1. Obama doesn’t know who commands his aircraft and they can be sent anywhere without his approval.
2. Obama knew and is lying.
What a choice.

A former administration official was interviewed on the news this am. He claimed that these flights DO NOT go up empty. These “photo-op” flights are used for those who do not typically have an opportunity to fly AF!.
It is not a conspiracy theory.
If it is not so Obama can release the manifest and we will all be satisfied!
Further a former secret service agent was interviewed who gave the information on the positioning of the AF1 planes and that the Pres always knows if one is used for alternate purpose.
I know Obama supporters believe he wears a halo and walks on water even though he is a chicago thug polititian, but this is EASY to resolve by releasing the passenger list.

dr John: Yep you are probably right about me.. Why? Because I am so tired of watching this country I fought for and was injured for go right down the tubes. From the ridiculous to the insane… This country is loosing its very essence of what it once was.
I am tired of trying to do the right thing, trying to be the one that helps those in need. I am tired of those with money taking away MY RIGHTS just because THEY think their morals are better than mine… just because THEY think they know better than me on how I should live MY OWN LIFE.
I am tired of watching, seeing, listening and reading about people who just no longer give a dam and simply crawl in their own little hole every time something happens. As long as it does not affect them, they do not care.
This is one BIG reason that in this country now, we are GUILTY until proven innocent in the court of media. This is why in this country people are being thrown in jail WITHOUT EVEN SEEING a judge, being charged with a crime, or even having stepped into a court room…
oh and how do I know that? Because I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. I was finally released after 3 weeks under a writ of habeas Corpus for violations of my 2nd and 4th constitution rights as well as NO due process not to mention no charges for anything.. 60 days in jail without ever having stepped into a court room or even charged with a crime or sentenced for anything. Simply picked up in front of my kids at my home because someone wrote something that was untrue. BTW, at that particular time, I worked in law enforcement.
No, you can label me any way you want. It does not change the fact that people have stopped caring for anything but themselves and their own little world. And that people have stopped using any common sense or in seeing the truth about things BEFORE reacting.

jhw539 – whether the blame for failure to notify the public falls squarely on the administration (supposedly the memo said not to release the info, according to an ABC report) doesn’t change the fact that either 1) they knew about the exercise/photo op/whatever it was and are lying, or 2) they didn’t know and are incompetent.
In either case, an actual apology to the citizens whose lives were disrupted would be nice.

Lin Taylor:”1) they knew about the exercise/photo op/whatever it was and are lying, or”
OBVIOUSLY they knew about it. Just like the Mayor’s office and the NYPD. But it’s absurd to think the President, with everything on his plate, is keeping track of photo-ops with the VC-25s.
Is this really a signature issue you want to pillory Obama on? That he personally doesn’t keep track of all photo ops? That he didn’t demand that more than the FAA, local mayor, and local police were contacted in advance?
I am starting to suspect you are a Democrat trying to perpetuate the stereotype of the petty and wholly out of touch Republican.

[Apologies if this posts more than once, as it was filtered twice.]
1 – Arlen Specter was no longer respected by the GOP back in February when he voted for the stimulus, so no surprise. It’s not news, just a well-timed diversion from the flyover fiasco. Anyway, you never know when one of the Dems will cross party lines in a critical vote, which happens now and then
2 – They’re called “tea partiers”. T-bagging is apparently more of a liberal thing since most conservatives at the events had never heard of it before MSM began the juvenile inuendo and name-calling which has been all-too-eagerly perpetuated by certain Obamaphiles.
Will you folks please stick to the issue? Did Obama and his administration know about the flyover? If so, why are they lying? If not, why didn’t the president know the plane associated directly with HIS office was scheduled for a low-flying photo op at Ground Zero??

Well this donor payoff /flyover at taxpayer expense has been massively dwarfed today in yet another taxpayer, yes SOCIALIST, ripoff and supporter payoff.
Today Obama nationalized 50% of GM
HE THEN GAVE THE UNION ORGANIZATION THE UAW 40% OF GM
He did let the stockholders of GM keep- 10% in his government run reorganization.
The upshot is:
1. Never ever will there be a UAW salary/benefit concession
2. No company or supplier will do business with GM if not unionized thereby over-ruling the “right to work” laws in other states and forcing unionization and higher costs to survive
3. Now that he has nationalized half of GM he can sink as much money as he wants into it without the advise and consent of anyone
4. Obama can dictate what cars can and will be made, at what price, and supplement the production with taxpayer dollars to keep the prices down and drive out the non-union automakers.
He is so busy screwing us in so many ways no one has the time to catch their breath and follow each one. Which is of course the intent.
It went completely over the heads of the liberal dems that Obama’s legal team went to court to advocate denying the right to representation by counsel when being interviewed or interrogated, for US citizens,
Before you get hysterical and claim this is fabrication look it up.
Even the AP covered these stories! Albeit in a buried cursory fashion.

Hallelujah!!
Just breaking the UAW will get 55% of Chrysler, awarded in a government run reorganization today.
If they had gone through court ordered reorganization the shareholders would have gotten 100 percent, and there would have been forced salary and benefit concessions to keep the company viable.
Obama is a chicago thug who will payoff and empower his backers such as the unions, and we gt to pay for all of it.
That is 2 for 2.

“It went completely over the heads of the liberal dems that Obama’s legal team went to court to advocate denying the right to representation by counsel when being interviewed or interrogated, for US citizens,”
Probably because right wing liar mischaracterize it (shocking)
The case at issue is Michigan v. Jackson, in which the Supreme Court said in 1986 that police may not initiate questioning of a defendant who has a lawyer or has asked for one unless the attorney is present. The decision applies even to defendants who agree to talk to the authorities without their lawyers.
Anything police learn through such questioning may not be used against the defendant at trial. The opinion was written by Justice John Paul Stevens, the only current justice who was on the court at the time.
The justices could decide as early as Friday whether they want to hear arguments on the issue as they wrestle with an ongoing case from Louisiana that involves police questioning of an indigent defendant that led to a murder confession and a death sentence.
The Justice Department, in a brief signed by Solicitor General Elena Kagan, said the 1986 decision “serves no real purpose” and offers only “meager benefits.” The government said defendants who don’t wish to talk to police don’t have to and that officers must respect that decision. But it said there is no reason a defendant who wants to should not be able to respond to officers’ questions.
At the same time, the administration acknowledges that the decision “only occasionally prevents federal prosecutors from obtaining appropriate convictions.”
To be honest, Obama’s position on FISA is much more upsetting to me than this from a civil rights standpoint.

Ryan C, perhaps the news about the legal battle to take away our civil rights, and about UAW’s presidentially sanctioned “takeover” of GM, (and who knows what other stories yet to be unearthed,) will prove a bigger point – we’re CONSTANTLY being misdirected away from a dishonest administration’s anything-but-transparent actions, which are looking more and more like a total government takeover of American life. I’m not usually one to latch onto conspiracy theories (which are generally ridiculous), but I’m beginning to believe this was a planned stunt. No, I don’t feel the need to defend that position, but the jury’s still out.

“Except there’s no evidence of lying about this.”
*Ok, so the president is being 100% truthful about having no knowledge of this flight. So members his administration do what they want in his name and leave him holding the bag? That’s responsible leadership for you. So how about that apology to the citizens he swore to protect and represent on the behalf of his staff? Or how about keeping his minions in check in the first place?
“It appears to be an incredibly boneheaded mistake by a guy who is likely to lose his job.”

It is unbelievable but true. Obama wants everything done for his 100 day celebration, and we will pay and pay for generations to come.
He actually GAVE 40% of GM and 55% of Chrysler to the Unions.
Biden wasn’t joking when he told the union party in florida “you dance with the one that brung you, you want unions, you got unions”
The right to a lawyer according to Obama has “meager benefits” thankfully the right to remain silent they still support. BIG DEAL.
He is altering this country in a way that we will never recover from.
And when he finished nationalizing the banks, as he spoke of doing, HE WILL CONTROL EVERYTHING.
Today they also determined that they will unilaterally lower mortgage balances, and shock of all shocks, banks did not like it. OH well , too bad, he has the banks and us by the cojones.
Then you have a silent media who fail to report and analyze any of this. They should no longer have the constitutional rights afforded the press when they behave as a state run media, advocating and controlling information to keep Obama’s slight of hand secret until it is tooo late. Which it is.
WE ARE SCREWED!

Jake,
So far, the Obama Administration has offered absolutely no credible explanation whatsoever of why the flight was scheduled and taken in the first place.
Their “updating” of the photo file story is so risible that it makes any thinking person wonder what the real story could possibly have been!
It simply had to be some reason that they don’t dare allow out. Nobody allows AF-1 out of the hangar and on a flight to circle NYC unless there is a VERY GOOD reason for it.
Though we have no solid information on what that reason was, due to the fact that the Administration has officially clammed up about it, the natural explanation is to speculate about it.
To me, the “joyride” theory is really the one that makes the most sense . . . kind of like Obama’s version of the Clinton’s Lincoln Bedroom sleep-over incidents.
Is it possible that several of his biggest supporters and /or contributors (e.g., bundlers) were given such a ride, as a reward for their help in the campaign? Or even worse, that they in some manner were using the flight to raise additional funds?
If so, it will eventually come out — One or more of them will boast to a relative, or spouse. Or some staffer who was offended by the action will out them to a reporter. And if so, my guess would be that the firestorm of bad publicity would then cripple his credibility.
What possible legitimate purpose could there have been for that flight?
