Career politician! He knew he couldn’t win from the side he is accountable to (those that elected him as a REPULICAN) and so he switches parties. Aren’t we tired of LIFE LONG Politicians?? I sure as hell am!

This guy is a traitor. He should have resigned his senetor position first and joined democrats. He has no respect for the people whom voted for him. There should be law of defection. Hopefully now there can be a viable party that forms in the center and pushes the far left out to match how isolated and alone the far-right is.

I disagree . That would be against out national motto . There needs to be the biggest tent possible that will encompass and cover ALL legal americans ,or if not that , as many as is politically possible.
Tolerance and understanding are key in this global day and time. Political parties will have to be in line with this basic ideology to begin with .
Personally I think Mr Spector definitely found and switched to the party that touts tolerance and understanding as it’s trademarks ,historically as well as present tense.

To those saying there should be a special election now that Specter has switched parties: does it really matter if he changes the letter behind his name and votes with the democrats or if he keeps the R and votes with the democrats?
To those pegging re-election as he sole motivation: he would win the general, but not the primary of an increasingly extremist party, and maybe he just feels that he has another term of service in him and isn’t willing to forgo his opportunity to serve to a radical.
To those calling for McCain, Snow and other RINOs to leave: do you really think that decreasing your representation is going to increase your influence?
TO those who claim that the Dems have to do this or that, or they now own every problem handed to them: the democratic tent is a bit tent and allows for dissent. There may be 60 Ds but that doesn’t necessarily mean 60 votes. It is one of the party’s greatest strengths as well as one of it’s greatest weakness.
To everyone: go out and give a republican a hug today, they need them.

What I’m wondering is what behind the scenes deal was worked out with his intended democratic opponent for the senate seat in 2010. It he wasn’t in on it, he’s not a very happy camper right now.
