Complete and meaningless tokenism.
Obama does not support gay marriage rights, and he shows no sign of lifting the military ban, so he cynically threw a bone to the gay community to quash their discontent.
It didn’t work.
Tickets for an egg rolling and equal rights are NOT interchangable.
Believe it or not.

Obama is the best president that we have had in ages..period! He would be the best president that America would ever have…period! I know frustrated Republic would beg to differ but that’s okay because they are just frustrated and still hurting about the results of the last elections.

That story telling was hilarious; it seems everybody had a fab time!! My kind of First Family!!

It’s different because there has never been as large a crowd in WH history. Our President, once again, is top-notch.

It sure didn’t look completely meaningless to the folks who were there. Do I need to remind you that Proposition 8 was just passed in California, one of the most liberal states in the country? We still have a long road ahead to real equal rights in this country so I wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

Ruined. They took all the fun out of the Easter Egg Roll. I’ve been before, and this year’s Roll was just hours of waiting in line. Too many people, not enough fun. It did not work. They’d better work on some CHANGE for next year. After all of the headache so many people went through to get these tickets, we were expecting a lot more out of the event. It was a disaster. And I’m not complaining about Obama as a President–the Easter Egg Roll just didn’t work.

Obama is the best he has proven he should be President of the world…

Obama used to support gay marriage then realized it would hurt him politically down the road–so now he opposes it.
Threw them under the bus like he did his church, Rev Wright, etc.
This was tossing a bone to gays like he did by inviting a gay band to the inauguration.
He’s a hypocrite.

Because he is a people person…not one who was born of wealth and status. Because he has a clue….he hasn’t lived in a rich, stiff bunker. For the first time in my 57 years, I wished I could’ve gone, just to remember how Easter celebrations is really done. His story telling reminded me of my uncle, animated and interesting to express the emotions to a kid.

Because Obama encouraged the littlest girl to perserve who was coming up last in the egg roll! Unlike Bush, who would have taken her egg and given it to the top 1% of the eggrollers and called that “rewarding the successful.”

What’s so different…2006,2007, and 2008 also had gay families attend the annual Easter event at the White House…Not a big deal people….Skip prop 8 was past in my home state of California for one major reason, at least for me and my family, we resented the fact that the courts tried to mettle in the rights of an election and denied the right of the voters voice/votes to be heard…If gay marriage comes up for VOTE in a general election again, I will vote for it….
“Do I need to remind you that Proposition 8 was just passed in California, one of the most liberal states in the country?”
When the presidential candidate of the Democratic party, who is said to be the most influential politician of the last 50 years by many, comes out and says that he is against gay marriage (thereby equal rights for all citizens) prior to the election and his supporters follow his lead, what chance did gay rights advocates have?
“We still have a long road ahead to real equal rights in this country so I wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.”
How insulting that gays should grovel at Obama’s feet and be grateful for such a meaningless and false gesture!
The back of the bus isn’t good enough, no matter who is telling you to sit there or how phonily “nice” they say it.

Obama: “I’ve stated my opposition to this. I think [Prop 8 is] unnecessary. I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage. But when you start playing around with constitutions, just to prohibit somebody who cares about another person, it just seems to me that’s not what America’s about. Usually, our constitutions expand liberties, they don’t contract them.”
