Best Lines

Best lines from last night’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner:

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA:

-"In the next 100 days I will learn to go off the prompter, and Joe Biden will learn to stay on the prompter."

-"In the next 100 days our bipartisan outreach will be so successful that even John Boehner will consider becoming a Democrat … After all we have a lot in common. He is a person of color… although not a color that appears in the natural world."

-"In the next 100 days we will house train our dog Bo. Because the last thing Tim Geithner needs is someone else treating him like a fire hydrant."

-"We had been rivals during the campaign. But these days we could not be closer. In fact, the second she got back from Mexico, she pulled me into a hug and gave me a big kiss. Told me I had better get down there myself."

–"Tomorrow is mothers day.  I do have to say, this is a tough holiday for Rahm because he is not used to saying the word ‘day’ after ‘mother.’"

–George Stephanopoulos

This is what you call highly irrelevant to anyone who is not a Washington insider. It also involves a lot of vanity on the part of the participants.
I didn’t care about this event when Bush and Cheney were in office and I don’t care about it now.

Cool and Funny. I love this guy.

I love it! While I do not agree with the assessment by another that the event is irrelevant, vanity is a big part of what makes this country go around. You don’t think we do all the things we do because we don’t want any attention, do you? Besides….this one was intentionally funny, unlike the last 8 years.

Did he take TOTUS?????

Posted by: ceeLeelee | May 10, 2009, 7:52 am 7:52 am

OK… Tried to watch your clips of the dinner, but quit after three because of the :30 sec at&t ad interrupting every one! Come on folks, this is no way to run a website. Want to increase viewership on the web? Cut down the advertising messages from a one to one ratio to about one ad for every five or six clips. Hint: Why do you think they invented TiVO?

Posted by: steve wiggins | May 10, 2009, 7:52 am 7:52 am

I LOVE THIS GUY!!!

Posted by: John | May 10, 2009, 8:16 am 8:16 am

Yes the AT&T ads are really annoying. Next time combine the clips so we only have to watch it once.
As for “Jan” save the keystrokes.. no one cares that you don’t like this.

It’s great to finally have a President we can trust to do the right thing no matter what the situation. And, he has a sense of humor that makes George W. Bush appear to be a cadaver. I don’t know if the people of the United States realize yet just how fortunate we are to have President Barack Obama. The guy is a whirlwind of intellect, who is probably one of the few people on the planet, who can save our country from the damage and destruction wrought by Bush/Cheney in the 8 years they were in power.

Posted by: caliguy55 | May 10, 2009, 9:13 am 9:13 am

And he’s done what to help the little guy?
So far all he has done is refuse to discontinue the worst of Bush’s policies while expanding Bush’s pay off to the bankers. …What a guy.

Posted by: jan | May 10, 2009, 9:33 am 9:33 am

caliguy55, you trust this guy? please take the blinders off and lay off the kool-aid maybe then you’ll learn something.

Posted by: notanobamafan | May 10, 2009, 9:38 am 9:38 am

Alright – with all the other great attributes he can also be funny – this pres is going to succeed and is succeeding in this short time, pass the kool-aid!

Wanda Sykes wants Rush Limbaugh to have kidney failure? What is it about the Left and Hate? Is that all they Have? I will never look upon Wanda Sykes in the same light again, I can’t stand such hate filled people, they are disgusting.

Posted by: we_are_not_amused | May 10, 2009, 10:18 am 10:18 am

Whirlwind of intellect? Because he was a law school lecturer before entering politics? Keep main lining the Hopium. The only things he’s good at is political kabuki theatre, and that’s only because Axelrod writes the script.

Posted by: jb | May 10, 2009, 10:20 am 10:20 am

yes, the jokes were funny. they often are. m.c. rove was a huge eye opener. it would all be hillarious if it weren’t so unethical. how can reporters do their jobs objectively or without bias, after rubbing elbows, partying, with those they’re supposed to be reporting on? they can’t.

Posted by: kay, tx | May 10, 2009, 10:29 am 10:29 am

pretty funny stuff.

Posted by: Annie | May 10, 2009, 10:41 am 10:41 am

all of you nay sayers need to chill. what has he, president obama, done for the little guy? it’s only been a hundred days! don’t hate just for the sake of hating. be objective, be informed. make up your own minds.
unlike during the cheney-bush administration, it takes three, THREE, branch of government to run the country. i love president obama. he has the right ideas for what america needs to be great for her people and the world. unfortunately, the congress and the senate will never go along with those ideas. they are too indebted to corporations and lobbyists, and their own self interests, to actually do whats best for the american citizens.

Posted by: kay, tx | May 10, 2009, 10:53 am 10:53 am

Looks like his joke writers are much better than the rest of the people he surrounds himself with.

Posted by: HRPufnstuf | May 10, 2009, 10:54 am 10:54 am

He is so funny.

Posted by: AlomaGirl | May 10, 2009, 10:58 am 10:58 am

He is funny…Joke is on us

Posted by: bob | May 10, 2009, 10:59 am 10:59 am

What has he not done? To name a few.
Spying on Americans….He hasn’t done a thing to stop it.
Ended Bush’s eternal war….He’s only moving it to the country which contained the attack about 8 years too late to succeed, expanding it to include Pakistan without getting us out of Iraq, and publicly announced that Afghani women’s rights are unimportant.
Helped stressed homeowners keep their homes….Instead he gave money by the truckload to the banks who used it to buy out other banks and pad their own bottom line. Homeowners faded out of the picture as though they never existed.
I could continue but what it all comes down to is the fact that, for us, the changes are cosmetic. Bush’s policies have continued without interruption. …And the band played on.

it’s only been a hundred days!

Posted by: kay, tx | May 10, 2009, 11:32 am 11:32 am

Some of these things he has stated publicly that he will not change. On others, his actions speak loudly.

Posted by: jan | May 10, 2009, 11:41 am 11:41 am

People that don’t like Obama can’t admit to liking his humor. The Rush joke was funny-Rush wants the Obama and by logic the country to fail; Obese drug addicts are at risk for kidney (& liver) failure.
As for Sara Palin pulling out of the dinner… Why can’t she make up her mind and just abstain? Anyone that claims they don’t see humour in the Palin family hypocrisy is a fake prude.

Posted by: Kenneth | May 10, 2009, 11:54 am 11:54 am

WERE THESE GUESTS the same ones who told us that Obama was “good looking”? Have you folks actually looked at this guy ? Ears that could easily allow him to glide from Chicago to D.C.; teeth that could take down trees, and skinney as a fishing pole. Lincoln has lost his place as America’s ugliest President.

Posted by: Ron | May 10, 2009, 12:31 pm 12:31 pm

ANY EVENT that includes Helen Thomas on the guest list is an event worth avoiding !

Posted by: Ron | May 10, 2009, 12:33 pm 12:33 pm

I think it would behoove people of BOTH sides to stop for a second before posting for a “hypocrisy check.”
Repubs, seriously? You’re going to criticize Dems for relying on hate? Where have you been the past 3 Presidential campaigns? The Repub base RELIES on fear-mongering.
Dems, we roundhoused Rush for disparaging comments like the ones Wanda said. (that being said, Wanda’s an actress; Rush is, well, Rush)
All that being said, people, please remember … this is the WH Correspondent’s Dinner … context people, context. It’s meant to be funny, meant to be this sort of ribbing of each other.
Let’s all go to the medicine cabinet, grab some chill pills, & wash ‘em down with a cool glass of “really? you’re gonna get upset about this?”.

What is with the 30 second clips of President Obama and then a commercial, tried to watch but gave up after 3 commercials.

Posted by: Jane Bentham | May 10, 2009, 1:43 pm 1:43 pm

You gotta Love Obama. He’s even funny when he wants to be. He’s had a terrific 100 days and I suspect with have a steadily improving 2009-2010. I think it’s great that he’s now going after the credit card companies. You would never see a republican trying to help the average joe this way. Keep up the Great work Obama/Biden…

O come let us adore him. O come let us adore him. O come let us adore him, O-Bam-A. (hint-total sarcasm and ongoing amazement at what appears to be a case of permanent myopia)

Neither idolators nor demonizers shall give him a break. I personally wouldn’t mind having a quiet beer and discussion with the big OB. What?? Disrupt national security? Sure, I think the George’WB is OK, however clueless, Cheney please retreat to your own maggot-ridden dirt under a huge rock. GWB’s welcome in my backyard barbecue anytime. Obama too, you nut.

You can see the entire speech – without commercials – at Huffington Post.

Posted by: LLisaLL | May 10, 2009, 7:16 pm 7:16 pm

The written quotes are funny, but the footage is disappointing. The lines were delivered in a forced way, some of it appeared as if he had seen the jokes for the first time as he was reading them. Very much like the jokes delivered badly by Academy Awards presenters.

President Obama and Sykes were great! Looks like the neocons can dish it out but can’t take it. Hysterical!

Oh my the President was a hoot!Wanda was Wanda she killed the room as usual.Even stone face George Will cracked a Boris Karloff smirk.

Posted by: Kevin | May 11, 2009, 2:16 am 2:16 am

Obama highlighted very important issues that concern all and sundry. His report card shows what he’s achieved; what’s being achieved and what’ll be achieved. Very accountable, Mr President!

Posted by: Austin Chuks | May 11, 2009, 3:39 am 3:39 am

Wow how funny is our President, making a joke about his daughters being punished for taking Air Force One on a joy ride around New York City, NOT VERY FUNNY and cannot believe you GMA found it funny to repeat.

Posted by: Jayne Economos | May 11, 2009, 7:21 am 7:21 am

Thanks to this lovely segment you’ve lost a faithfull GMA viewer. I can’t stand our new movie star prez. I was VERY offended by the FOX news comment.

If you think Liberals don’t engage in “Hate Speech”, try reading some of the things said at the Correspondents Dinner !

Posted by: Ron | May 11, 2009, 11:40 am 11:40 am

I love President Obama. He’s undoing the Bush-Cheney policies. He cares about America and the well being of all Americans. He’s intelligent and has a great sense of humor. He’s a welcomed breath of fresh air compared to the Dark Ages of the past eight years. Keep up the good work, Mr. President!

Posted by: leftyintexas | May 11, 2009, 1:07 pm 1:07 pm

For the people that think Obama is funny, think again, he is making fun of the Airforce One flying over Manhatthan by his daughters!! It is a disgrace that he can get away with such distasteful jokes.

Posted by: leadhead | May 11, 2009, 7:47 pm 7:47 pm

lefties are haters? um, Limbaugh, Palin, Bachmann, Hannity, Beck. wow, lefties are haters and righties are what? oh, that’s right, they love Jesus Christ and vow to act as He did. I think you’re all failing greatly. I remember a Scripture you all might want to remember — “Depart. I never knew you.”

“For the people that think Obama is funny, think again, he is making fun of the Airforce One flying over Manhatthan by his daughters!!”
Yes. It’s funny. It’s okay to laugh at things that are funny. You can unclench once in a while. It won’t kill you.

Barack, you have to lighten up! Here’s some jokes. Just read the teleprompter like you have always do and try to be yourself. Cough cough! Excuse me, something is in my throat.
