Capitol Hill’s Baby Boom Continues

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Happy news was delivered via press release earlier today: Rep. Linda Sánchez, D-Calif., gave birth to a baby boy in Washington this morning. Joaquin Sánchez Sullivan — 7 pounds, 14.6 ounces, and 20.6 inches long — makes her mother the eighth woman in US history to give birth while serving in Congress. As we covered on “Good Morning America” last month, four of those births have occurred just since 2007.  “I couldn’t be happier,” Rep. Sánchez said in a statement. As a footnote to this, Sánchez was in line to become the first member of Congress to be an unwed mom. She and her long-term boyfriend, Jim Sullivan, decided to have a baby before getting married because, as they told us, they figured that while a big wedding could wait, having a bigger family might not be able to. (Sanchez was 39 years old when she became pregnant.) But as it turns out, that barrier hasn’t been broken yet. Sánchez and Sullivan very quietly tied the knot April 13 — though they didn’t go public about that until more than two weeks later.

I can understand if you don’t believe in marriage and never get married at all and have children. But, I don’t understand people who plan a baby and then have the big wedding after.

I do live in the real world. I stand by point. I can understand never marrying even with children, I am no prude. If Ms. Sanchez and her boyfriend don’t ever want to get married fine. Big wedding after the baby stupid.
