Do You Want Your OTV?

On April 27, President Obama welcomed the University of Connecticut Lady Huskies, who had just won the NCAA women’s basketball championship.

After the event, President Obama went to the White House basketball court to shoot hoop with the Lady Huskies. The White House press corps was not allowed to attend.

Reads the print pool report from that day: "After shaking hands with the team’s parents and members of Congress who showed up, the president walked the team over to his basketball court and shot hoops. The pool was held back from the stroll down the drive and around the corner, and couldn’t see the court. Poolers could hear periodic cheering coming from the other side of the bushes."

Read the TV pool report: "Your Pool was not allowed to go over and shoot POTUS with the team shooting hoops.  We protested loudly."

Now we know why: Obama White House officials decided to do their own media report on the visit, complete with cuts, interviews, and chyrons identifying who’s speaking.

Also, just like a network, they have their own little logo!

Cute!

It’s perfectly fine, of course, for the White House to put out its own version of events — but is it right to do so by preventing actual reporters from covering something? (Even something like a pickup basketball game).

Do Obama White House officials think their media coverage isn’t flattering enough?

Is the goal to ultimately replace the pesky photographers who film what they want to and not what they’re told to (not to mention the annoying reporters who ask uncomfortable questions about, say, detainee policy and bank bailouts)?

Do you want your OTV? (I’ll bet there are a few takers out there.)

Wow, i guess we dont need an MSM anymore, why bother?
Jake, you’re the only MSM reporter even feigning any critical review of the Presidency, so why have an MSM?
What’s the difference between this video produced by OTV and MSM nightly news?
Answer: NOTHING.
All teh MSM does is give Obama cover

As long as he’s holding a public event, it seems the pool should be included.

Well, Jake, you have seen the future. I guess the media is expendable. Let us know what it is like under Obama’s bus, okay?

Isn’t this the same as putting out a Video News Release like GWB got slammed for? The “Revenge of the TelePrompter”

Nooooo! Terrible idea. I don’t care that it’s basketball. My tax dollars should not go to expensive fly overs or fake network logo design. Seeing that logo for what it represents – a state-sponsored press – is chilling. White House: do your job and let the press do it’s job.
I was hoping Obama banned the press because he didn’t want his B-ball skills to look bad compared with the Lady Huskies.

“As long as he’s holding a public event, it seems the pool should be included.”
Agreed.
If the WH wants to do their own video that is fine but to exclude the press is a bad idea.

Start with something as innocuous as a college sports team visit and then slowly, methodically begin to control every aspect of the White House news.
The MSM won’t even make a big fuss about it because they will compete with each other and submit their resumes to the White House in the hopes of landing the coveted OTV jobs.

“Isn’t this the same as putting out a Video News Release like GWB got slammed for?”
Not quite.
The problem with the video news releases produced by the government over the last few years was not that the government produced them but that they were broadcast on local news channels with no acknowledgment of that tie.

IT’s not a good idea for the Government to Manufacture the News. The Media outlets with their different voices are always present to enlighten and inform us of what is going on in our country or around the world. Is up to us to discern, if they are doing a good job or not.. The Journalist shouldn’t be News Beggars or be marginalized. Neither be the source of jokes by the Goverment Press spoke person. Is umbecoming of Power.

Looks like the MSM is getting the same treatment as so many of O’s supporters have gotten—used until you’re no longer of use. BHO and entourage are from Chicago–get used to it under the bus like so many others that were used and then abused.
If the MSM did their job in vetting BHO during the primaries, they wouldn’t be experiencing this—karma is a b*tch.

Jake, you have every right to be offended by this turn of events. It may seem innocuous enough, just a little photo-op feel-good kind of event that would not be markedly different if filmed by pool participants rather than by the white house. But it is a slippery slope we see here, and you will note that they didn’t just push out some video, they put together a professional-looking piece, as Mr. Tapper noted, with tags and editing just like a news piece. Makes me queasy.
Oh, and Bill, I hope you were trying to be funny when you wrote, “Yes, I prefer, getting it from the source and not through media with their own larger than life egos.” One larger-than-life ego per White House news is enough, huh? Surely you would not suggest that folks like Mr. Tapper have egos any larger than the inflated ego of The Chosen One.

One more thing, Jake. What about the fact that these “real reporters” you’re talking about haven’t done their jobs for over ten years (maybe more). Where were you when you were being kept in the dark by the Bush & Cheney gang? Where were you while the economy was going down fast and the stock market was at 14000? Where were you when Bush and friends were ignoring 9/11, and then committing all sorts of vile, illegal acts? Why haven’t we gotten to the truth about Halliburton? Where have you been while Cheney has been all over the news, spouting his garbage without a single serious question from the so-called “real reporters”, demanding serious answers to the serious questions of how this country ended up in such jeopardy? Why haven’t you demanded proof to his claiims of an unsafe nation under this new president? Where was your outrage when the Bush gang were taking this country, the constitution and the reputation of this country and grinding them up into nothing recognizable? You have the audacity to cry about not being allowed to cover a basketball game? Why don’t you start doing your job – the job you should have been doing for the past several years? Start reporting the news, not your version of it! You are a whining, sniveling, bitter little man. Get over the basketball thing. Get over your jealousy of this president, and your dedicated vendetta which seems intent on bringing him down. Start acting like a “real reporter”. When good things are happening, report good news. When bad things are happening, investigate. Simple.

Many of the dunces here will be scratching their heads trying to understand the basic principles involved in the following item:
Pacific Investment Management Co., Barclays Capital and Fridson Investment Advisors have joined Schultze Asset Management LLC in saying lenders may be unwilling to back unionized companies with underfunded pension and medical obligations, such as airlines and auto-industry suppliers, because Chrysler’s creditors failed to block Obama’s move. The reluctance may put additional pressure on borrowers seeking capital in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
“Lenders will have to figure out how to price this risk,” Schultze, 39, said in a telephone interview from his office in Purchase, New York. “The obvious one is: Don’t lend to a company with big legacy liabilities or demand a much higher rate of interest because you may be leapfrogged in a bankruptcy.”
Hee hee heeeee…

Obama Eyes ‘Preventive Detention’ System
During a 90 minute meeting with human rights advocates today, President Barack Obama said that he was considering coming up with some sort of “preventive detention” system which would provide him a legal basis to detain suspects as a threat without having to charge them with any crimes.

At least other presidencies have invited the private media in. He shut out the private sector to put his “brand” in front of the people. It’s a permanent campaign for him. This is marketing run amuck just like his “Office of the President Elect.” (That particular stunt reminded me of Junior High where the teacher has to make up a title so the little weakling can fit in.) It is unbecoming to have the President of the United States behaving like a controlling husband that has to put his “brand” on everything the family does so his fragile self-image can stay intact. And THAT is what THIS little stunt felt like.
Now that I’ve ranted, nice to see these gals at the White House.

It’s the same reason Obama won’t throw out a pitch at a MLB game. He’s not the athlete he has been made out to be in the press. He can’t be filmed being beaten on the court by a bunch of girls, or anyone for that matter. If he were to throw a pitch out at a MLB game, he’d be compared to Bush who throws strikes. Obama can’t throw strikes much less get it to the plate from the mound.

Obama is the second coming(of Kim Il Sung)and it is going to take some time for the cheelreaders in the media(who all voted for him)to start reporting on his actions in an unbiased manner.

This is just the beginning, Don’t forget they’re talking about newspaper bailouts, and soon it’ll be television bailouts too.
Read your history people, this is how democracies are taken over, not with wars, inch by inch, freedom by freedom. Vote them all out, starting with your local reps, and work your way to Washington. Go to the tea parties on July 4th, and talk to your fellow Americans. We are ALL Americans, it’s the politicians that insist on splitting us up, it makes it easier to control the masses if you build walls between them.

We have no media anymore. They’ve all been co-opted my the liberal establishment and have been cheerleaders for the left for years. Now they’re upset that they couldn’t cover this little story? Oh that is soooooo rich, LOL…

Posted by: George S. | May 22, 2009, 8:28 am 8:28 am

An earlier comment suggested that the mainstream press and Obama press is not far different. I agree, with the notable exception of a couple independent voices, Jake Tapper among them. But I think it is an unhealthy precedent in an open society where the free press is intended as a check on polical power, to shut out that press in lieu of the administration’s own media spin on an issue. Today pick-up basketball, tomorrow, what, enhanced interrogation policy?

Posted by: Kevin Phillips | May 22, 2009, 8:28 am 8:28 am

Little by little, the curtain is being pulled back on Oz to reveal what many of us feared all along. Granted, a pick-up basketball game isn’t the most newsworthy event in history, but it’s the principle of the matter. This is a dangerous precedent and given Obama’s stand-offish nature with the media thus far, and is clearly a glimpse of things to come. The free pass needs to end (I think the honeymoon time has long since expired) & the media need to realize that this man doesn’t care about them at all (aside from giving him favorable press and softball questions). We are being propagandized DAILY and it’s time for it to end. Kudos to you, Jake Tapper, as you seem to be the ONLY member of the current mainstream press corps willing to actually ask BHO a tough question or put a real magnifying glass up to some of his actions! The rest of the press corps is too busy idolizing him and covering his tracks. Thanks Jake! I beg you: keep it up!

His whole life is one big lie.

At first, I at least thought Obama being just one with inadequate-experience as president but at least likable person, and seemingly trustworthy..Now… he starts to show his real skin… (O yes, I am not allowed to use any metaphor which refers to skin… that’s right… I can use it against white people only!) Ok… I’ll say i now finally see the dangerous side of Obama. My goodness!

OMG, the press wasn’t allowed to film a pickup basketball game! Perhaps the President was trying to keep a modicum of privacy in the residential area of the White House, and not allow cameras into a private area? You’re also not allowed into the Oval Office, right? Or into the room when he’s meeting with foreign officials, or members of Congress? Would you also like to see what happens in his bedroom? Frankly this outrage is a little ridiculous.

Posted by: Coleman | May 22, 2009, 8:34 am 8:34 am

Ok- so initially reading this article, I was concerned like many others – but after watching the video, there is no footage of the pickup basketball game – most of the footage shown was available to all of the media.
Yes – in these tough economic times spending money on something like this seems wasteful…
Yes – this could be the beginning of a slippery slope towards a Nationalized Media
But – the article makes it sound like the White House reported on an event that the Mainstream Media wasn’t allowed to cover – that is not the case. If that ever truly DOES happen, then a line has been crossed – but this may just be “the sky is falling” panic without the sky actually falling…
just my 2 cents…

Posted by: tyler | May 22, 2009, 8:35 am 8:35 am

Established his own media? Isn’t that what Hugo Chavez did?
I confess, no one believes the main stream media as they have given away their creds for the bottom line, but it has come back to haunt them.
The founders gave the media special first amendment right so they could aid the citizens on how to think about modern problems and issues. Unfortunately, media is more interested in telling people what to think. Time to eliminate those special rights.

Maybe Obama was freaked out by Chris Matthews leg tingling, or some other media type that slavishly laps up whatever his ‘press’ secretary drolls on about.
The One is driving us at insane speed towards a sovereign bankruptcy, printing money, driving inflation upward, spending like a boatful of drunken sailors (with apologies to drunken sailors, whom are more thoughtful than our president), while rescuing companies that need to go through chapter 11, handing his constituents large chunks of companies in violation of the law surrounding order of who gets paid first in such cases, pissing on and pissing off our allies, demanding ridiculous things from our friends, apologizing for our success and determination to do the right thing …
If there was ever a more clear cut definition of why impeachment exists in the constitution, as a method to allow the congress of the US to remove a president who is a danger to the US, I am not aware of one. Nixon deserved his impeachment. Clinton, debatable, we didn’t need protecting from his picadillos.
But Obama? Yes. 5 months in and the guy has already set us back about 30 years in foreign policy, 80 years in financial state.
Unfortunately, this congress, which is supposed to balance Obama’s power, and provide a check and balance to him, is not.
In 2010 folks, even if you are a hard left winger, and can’t stand the thought of a republican in office, understand that the current situation is untenable, and at least one of the Senate or House needs to be acting in opposition to Obama. Otherwise, we have lost our checks, our balances. And our debts and deficits are going to continue to grow, unchecked, unbalanced. Our foreign policy will continue to slide backward.
For no other reason, than to preserve this great country, we need to restore balance to congress. Please. Please. Vote for the opposition. Because what we have now is a dictatorship in all but name. And if you don’t vote for the opposition soon, you may in fact lose the option to vote.
Seriously. We are accelerating down the slippery slope. Only by firmly retrenching and getting the ideals and ideas of the founding fathers back into play do we stand a fighting chance of having another 240 years of being a country worthy of being looked up to.
Obama needs to be impeached. This won’t happen. Obama needs to be challenged. This will only happen with an opposition firmly in control of at least one branch of congress. Better would be both branches. But oppose him, we must.

What about the YEARS of media blackout, denied interviews, and near total secrecy of the Bush administration? Do you really think this is propaganda? Where was this outrage when Bush went and hid at his Crawford ranch and didn’t let the press in?
What about the volumes of important documents that were unnecessarily classified to restrict them from the public? Cheney is STILL playing the cover-up game with the media.

Now we have obama taking over banks and car companies through leverage, supplying his own media (you know this was a test run and it will grow), and passing a massive climate control bill that will, in the end, control energy companies and affect MANY, if not most, other private companies.
The far left socialist realize they can’t win here so they are doing it through regulation and taxes and stimulus bills.

Uh oh. When the government starts to act as its own media outlet, you should be very concerned. Very Chavez-like, and Castro would be proud of Obama’s movement towards complete control over the media message. This was only a basketball game, but obviously the Administration was testing the waters.
Under Obama, the rich and successful have been demonized (class warfare), the banks have been nationalized, the car companies have been nationalized, he wants health care nationalized and control over your energy use. HE WANTS TO CONTROL YOU.

General Electric Corporation, which owns and operates NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, and has a huge pro-government stake in Cap and Trade policy (among many others)has taken Tarp money and has clearly slanted their reporting of Obama to mythical status. Obama placed Jeff Immelt of GE on his “Economic Advisory Board” despite his miserable record as GE CEO (GE stock down 70%).
In my opinion all news outlets should detach themeselves from corporations and that includes Fox (Newscorps), ABC (Disney), CBS (Viacom, Redstone), NBC (GE) , CNN (Time Warner/CBS).
Trading slanted news coverage for government business and contracts is an updated version of the crude Credit Mobiliere Scandal of the 1870s. Plain old dirty corruption but nobody is standing up and saying to both Immelt and Obamanoids “you guys are stark naked!”

This is funny, in that sick way…..the press got exactly who it wanted in the White House. Now they are upset? I am more prepared to believe this is a ruse so they can pretend that they are not his lapdogs. Notice what a non-event this is, too. They take O to task about, essentially, nothing, thus maintaining the appearance of non-partisanship, so they can give him a pass on matters of substance. I would say “Unbelievable”, but it really isn’t. The problem is that it is all too believable in what is left of the USA.

What’s the difference? ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, NYT, WP have become the state media anyway. Whether it’s the White House that pushes its propaganda or one of its lackey media organizations, it’s all from the same script anyway.
There used to be a time when the media served the public and had a skeptical eye toward the government. Now the media seeks to disparage those who do not support Our Dear Leader.

When the President does something it is largely symbolic and so you have to “read the message”. What’s the message here? Well, it’s to ABC and the other networks: “Drop the hell dead, chumps”. That’s all. Now get with the program and do as you were told. But remember – you voted for it.

During the campaign, the networks were in love with Obama. Unparalleled coverage and fawning over his every word as if it were directly delivered from the “Mount.” Now, as the tinge of this lasciviousness turns pale, so does the access to “His Person.” Control of what people see and hear is the mainstay of Dictators and Tyrants. Oh, Joy! Guess the media is now experiencing what they applied to us.

Yes I watched the video, it’s not about the content of the video, or the quality of the video, or the point of no white people speaking, it’s about The White House shutting out the free press, and starting their own press coverage, and news stories that they feel is what they want us to hear. It’s the Max Headroom audacity of it all. This is the shot across the bow. The White House now has it’s own propaganda branch, we will see more and more of this as time goes on. VOTE THEM ALL OUT STARTING LOCALLY, AND WORK YOUR WAY TO WASHINGTON!

Posted by: SRCAMACHONJ | May 22, 2009, 9:34 am 9:34 am

My my…which is this? Change we can believe in? or a more transparent government? The media has only itself to blame. If they don’t start asking questions soon and acting like real reporters and journalists, then they’ll not only be out of a job, but they will have robbed this country of it’s rights to a free press and rights to know! But hey, doesn’t sound like the media cared much about any of that when they swept this Obamanation into office! They covered up Obama’s lies and made up their own about Bush. Well, I guess they can just accept the fact that they were accomplices in shredding our Constitution and stripping citizens of their rights and privileges. Congratulations to the media hacks of this country! This is just as much your own doing as it is the liberal’s push to put a Muslim socialist and foreign national into the White House!

Posted by: AmericanBelle | May 22, 2009, 9:34 am 9:34 am

This is yet another seemingly insignificant, yet very troubling example of what and who Obama really is.
Liberals have become totalitarian. They always were really, but now the truth is really rearing its very ugly head. This is merely a small step towards eliminating the free press. I can assure Fox News and others like Fox are in their cross hairs.

It’s not about whether the basketball court was shown or not, Joe. It’s about whether Obama should have his own “press corp”, beholden to Him and Him alone. Of course, the mainstream media pretty much grabs their ankles while Obama feeds them what he wants to anyway, but why take a chance that one of them might grow a pair and complain when He does something that they don’t like? Obama is trying to control the media, and that has even ABC scared.

Posted by: Brandon | May 22, 2009, 9:42 am 9:42 am

I forget, was the professional White House production team part of the federal cuts to save money during this economically slow period or were they hired on after the cuts were made?
We have a press corps who can and would love to do this. Why is the government using our tax dollars to do it?
Seriously, all other weirdness aside over only interviewing the black members of the team or if this is a little too propaganda-like for some people’s taste…does anyone know how much this little self-promo piece COST?
Is this part of financially responsible government? What was it Obama himself said about the $17 billion in cuts? “These savings, large and small, add up…” Well guess what, so do these EXPENDITURES. If is isn’t $328k for a photo of a plane we already have 1000 photos of, it is how much for this video?

Posted by: Wesley B. | May 22, 2009, 9:45 am 9:45 am

Joe and Jake–
We don’t need to watch the moronic video because it’s irrelevant.
The story is about restricting access to the President and who should be in the business of writing the news–the White House or journalists.
Frankly, I don’t care if Obama’s teleprompter never holds another new conference or allows Obama to talk to reporters. The MSM isn’t going to ask a hard question until it’s way too late anyway.

Hey guys he will continue to behave in this arrogant manner as long as your editors demand you write only sweet nothings about the man. He did this because he KNOWS there will be no price paid by dissing you guys. The you tube video of you jumping up when he entered the press room while you sat on your asses when Bush entered the same room has already seriously damaged your reputations and undermined your credibility and your profession. You will continue to pay the price for your adolation. The US Connstitution gives you protections denied to other private business entities but with those rights come responsiblities which you abandoned in the last election cycle with your biased and fawning coverage and now lower ratings and a slaps in the face by the administration are your just reward.

Folks, we need to wake up. This was merely a test to see if anyone is paying attention. Whenever the free press — albeit a corporately owned free press — is prevented from scrutinizing or observing even the most minute and seemingly inconsequential aspects of the Presidency, we have lost yet another stake in our liberty as a nation. Where is Freedom of the Press? Apparently it was given part of the day off yesterday. The fact that a logo has been flown, reporter(s) and crew hired… this was not a spontaneous gesture. And it won’t be the last time the Press is shut out if people don’t speak out of the dangers of this. Yes, today a silly game of pick-up so “what’s the harm”… tomorrow…?

Posted by: John | May 22, 2009, 9:51 am 9:51 am

Oh, just wait it will undoubtedly get better! The transient wave of the housing and auto market crash has yet to make it all the way through our economy. Get ready for the commercial real estate crash, and unemployment rates in the 20%. Only Government employees will have jobs and how long will that last with no tax base supplementing their pay and benefits? Couple this with double digit inflation, the racial stake now driven through white Americas heart and you have the recipe for some CHANGE! America has forgotten how to apply common sense to Government and when we express the will of the people it is over run by the court system and some liberal ACLU backing judge. When did we quit looking at the substance and accomplishments of our elected officials and start looking at whether they were an IDOL? Obama’s lame stance on National Security will undoubtedly lead to more American deaths!

Journalism is cooked! It started going downhill during the Vietnam war when they started a liberal anti-war agenda, then these very demonstrators became the journalism professors in universities to propound the leftwing causes. It came to a perfect storm during the Bush adminstration when they (liberal journalists) had embedded themselves by layers in the major NY/Hollywood media sources…and joined with Obama and the democrats to assure a democrat congress and presidency. It is unlikely soon that journalism will return to the type of investigative and fair reporting that it was once known. It use to be a noble profession but has religated itself to one of contempt and not trustworthy.

This new development was a long time coming but is the logical next step. In their quest for total news manipulation the Obama White House is now actually producing their own news coverage. They are starting with something as mundane as a women’s basketball team visit to see how it goes over with the media. If this is a success then they will try it again with other more important coverage.
It will be interesting to see how their old pals in the media react to this development. Will they continue to shill for Obama now that he is in effect beginning to cut them off at the knees or will they finally wake up and do their jobs? Better late than never.

We need to be more accepting, Obama is a great man and we need to hear the truth that he wants us to hear it, not what that cracker Trapper wants to tell. We need the MIS to tell us the straight story on Chrysler, GM, AIG and all the other big donors, I mean millionaires, I mean greedy corporate executives, I mean poor regular folk, people like us. We need the MIS to tell what we should know. If you look at the clip again there was no advertisements banners or commercial interuptions, hence no evil corporate greed was used to get the real message out.

Don’t feel too bad jake, ACORN has already replaced actual voters so the next logical step was to replace the media (after all 3% of you apparently weren’t ‘on board’ during the campaign and at least one of your showed a picture of Him with a cig hanging from his mouth).
Welcome to the New America! We get to be witnesses as it is ‘Perfected’ in the eyes of our new Messiah. When he read the part in the Bill of Rights ‘to form a more perfect union’, he thought the Founders were talking directly to Him. He is going to replace everything in America which isn’t Perfect (to Him) and apparently that includes you annoying reporters.
Hey, gotta sacrifice something, right?

One of the first actions in a country’s hostile take-over is to lay seige to that country’s media outlets in order to disseminate the propaganda of the hostiles. Maybe this is a test-run for the O-Team for the “Big Brother News Network”? …and all this in just over 100 days! Way to go America!

The White House already has a 24-hour propaganda network -it’s called MSNBC. Only the truly braindead will be watching this network while thinking they’re getting something valuable.
Comments like that from noted international scholar “A Bunch of C” are indicative of the result of constant huffing at the propaganda pipe of this Administration – catty, defensive, frothing with fake outrage at unseen and imagined enemies and completely divorced from reality. So much for thinking independently of the government and of the party line.
Meanwhile, the US has lost its AAA credit rating on Obama’s watch. Under his unquestionably brilliant, historic, flawless leadership, the US is now being flushed down the financial toilet with no hope of extracting itself.
Way to go, Barry. Bang-up job.

You folks in the media created the situation with your fawning support of Mr. Obama during the campaign. Besides, the Constitution only protects your right to gather and report the news. It doesn’t require the President to give you 24/7/365 access, otherwise the press pool would probably assign Maureen Dowd to sleep at the foot of the Presidential bed in case he talks in his sleep.

Posted by: The Spartan | May 22, 2009, 10:37 am 10:37 am

Donna, I know what socialism is, and everything you listed is indeed socialist in nature. Each was created by a liberal democrat, and each is a bankrupt, bloated bureaucracy. It’s a failed policy, Donna. Free enterprise with limited government is what made this country great; overweening government and heavily regulated industry has ruined this once proud nation.

The function of propaganda is, for example, not to weigh and ponder the rights of different people, but exclusively to emphasize the one right which it has set out to argue for. Its task is not to make an objective study of the truth … and then set it before the masses with academic fairness; its task is to serve our own right, always and unflinchingly.

There is even a slight hint of disapproval that can be sensed in this article. Or is it shock that the person they have created with incessant, fawning coverage could possibly even turn on them? Eventually, even our press will get the joke about this administration.

Well, how about the fact that there IS NO COVERAGE of the basketball game in the clip you’ve posted!
Stop inventing controversies to feed a narative you’ve already written and do some real reporting.

Leave the man alone. He has so much to do. He deserves some time out of the limelight, even when doing a semi-public event. He has done so much for so many in so few days. Give the man some space. One more thing about not giving into intimidation: this goes for white and black both. White people don’t let them call you a racist if you dare to criticize. My african-american brothers don’t let them call you an Uncle Tom. Stand up and be strong, black and white, do what’s right, and realize America is a great country and that equality is a mindset, nobody can tell me I’m not an equal because that’s their problem not mine. I am too strong for their point of view. Don’t be intimidated or afraid to criticize. Ask hard questions. Demand answers. People want change, well what kind of change? We already live in a country with fantastic opportunity. Don’t kill our economy and take those opportunities away. A poor man never gave anyone a job. And that’s nothin but the stone cold truth. Government needs to get the hell out of the way and let the people prosper, create, and achieve.

I have always thought that when the American people have to stomach a plate of this crap for 4 years, they would figure it out and realize that they are having their goodwill taken advantage of by Jeremiah Wrights protege.
It must really take a scared group to take this kinda crap and still fawn all over this guy in the press conferences. It has a creepy feel to it. Jake, I know you are pretty good at taking him to task, but do the rest of them sit around and worship him????

Jake,
All of the whining from the reporters is most likely due to their finally realizing that they can be easily be replaced. The next step will be conferences with Gibbs where White House staffers will ask incisive questions previously supplied by the White House press office, and glibly responded to by the Glib Gibb. Wait, isn’t that what is happening now? I think the White House just wants to cut out the middle men.

Maybe the press will go back to reporting the news rather than manufacturing it.
By the way, the previous administrations created these problems starting all the way back to 1954 when the CIA installed the Shah of Iran.
The Japanese that water boarded American prisoners
during WW II were put to death. The US signed the Geneva accord in 1951 that forbids torture. The US constitution says the US MUST abide by the treaties it signs. Anything else is unconstitutional.
The US govt. has more than 17 clandestine organizations that answer ONLY to the President,
the CIA being at the top of the list. they are the President’s private armies. This is unconstitutional.
This all started a long time ago and we are paying for it now,
One country’s terrorist is another country’s freedom fighter or patriot. We used to take down governments (often for corporations – IT&T and Chili come to mind…). Now we invade countries and, again, watch our children die.
Arrest Bush. Arrest Cheney.
Being a Republican OR a Democrat is now a personality disorder.

The lack of memory when it’s convenient is shocking. Jake Tapper thinks this is “cute!” and “perfectly fine, of course, for the White House to put out its own version of events”
Does anyone remember the pretended outrage when it was discovered that the State Department was producing news clips for stations to use? Then it was all very dastardly, not Cute!
Or how shocked the mainstream media was when a reporter that was accused of being a “partisan hack” was allowed in the White House press room? Tell me again how that hack is any different than the current liberal hacks who write for prominent (nearly out of business now) papers?
This is just another reason the mainstream press are held in such low esteem and why their words are not trusted by most Americans.

Posted by: DL | May 22, 2009, 11:42 am 11:42 am

It’s all about the ‘Obama and Michelle’ brand now, it has nothing to do with what is best for the US. People are starting to question things like ‘ummm…if the economy is starting to come around, why do we need to spend all that money’. He needs to make sure his image is as squeaky clean as it can be so he can deflect any possible questions of what is right. After all, he is the President, as he has reminded his detractors so many times, and will get his way.

Posted by: JohnF | May 22, 2009, 11:42 am 11:42 am

Remember the book 1984 when the government had their own media? Newspeak is alive and well in the White House.
Joseph Goebbels would be jealous. What we have is a Hollywood produced show about Obama – talks a lot but doesn’t say anything. The economy in ruins and he flies all over the country to give speeches with no substance – but man – do the backgrounds look great. The key then is to watch the legislation introduced – opposite of what he says.
All hail the supreme, exalted leader…..

I wonder also if he would of not let them into the White House if the were 10 mins late like the 5 and 6 year olds were for their tour of the White House???? I just don’t get it… Since when is the President’s Office private???? Like Obama’s kids, with President Bush the press were all over his daughters just waiting for them to screw up… and I don’t think Bush would be getting off so easily if he was telling the press what they could do… There is such a double standard!

Your-’Just the facts’ reporting on stories like this, highlighting the obsessive desire of our favorite ‘Community Organizer’ and his crypto-Stalnist procivility to ‘uber control’ the news; eventhough the media love him. This reader thanks you for it…

Do not judge us on our actions but on our words, correction, do not judge us on our words from the media, trust us on our words that our PR department distributes. Not sure how many companies and municipalities have PR deprtments that do this. I have traveled the world in a business capacity and other than communist countries and Venezula they don’t generate their own video coverage of events. Even better the in this case the tax payers get to pay for it. Does that sound prudent to you Rod. Tax payer funded propoaganda departments for the WH? Not that they do not already exist but this is taking it to a whole new level.

Are people going to start waking up now? Probably not….but I agree with most of the posters here. This is a bad, bad road we’ve been taken on, and the main stream media is to blame for a lot of this. History is indeed repeating itself, and the reason so many can’t see it is that my generation hasn’t LEARNED that history! The public school education we’ve gotten didn’t cover this, so, the left which quietly and slowly infiltrated the minds of our students are now reaping the benefits from labors. Grab the minds of the children and you win. They’re winning, and I’m sad.
WAKE UP you fools and see this administration for what it truly is: he’s a black Hilter. God help the new minority: white men and their kin.

Sure, OTV is fine. The media has not exactly been independent, impartial or objective. The media has kissed up to The One – but why should He take risks given the media’s fickle loyalties in the past? Meanwhile, the media hasn’t exactly been loyal to the principles of impartial and independent journalism, so why should we – the audience – get upset if you’re being disintermediated?
If you don’t use it, you lose it.

Excuse me? You just keep on drinkin’ that Obama-flavored koolaid. I didn’t vote for The One, but I sure was willing to give him a chance; what he’s doing now is past ridiculous, way into scary. He’s the PRESIDENT. He works for US. Our reporters have the right to report on his activities, including a little b-ball with the ladies’ team. And their own logo and press release video? Did any of you actually watch the video? When you do, you can understand WHY they did it. The President is in the video for something like 20 seconds. The rest of the video is about THE TEAM and what role models they serve for inner city youth and the like. CLEARLY this was less about showing events than it was in sending a message. If y’all were there, there’d be shouts of “MR PRESIDENT WHAT ABOUT WATERBOARDING?” Oh, poor babies, you mistook your PRIVILEGE of covering every breathing moment the President has for your birthright. Obama’s team put together a VERY effective video that in the end may change the lives of more than a few inner city girls. But no, you’re going to get all ##### because you didn’t have your way.
SHAME on you ABC. Shame on you for giving the right wing echo machine and the right wingers something to chew on. I was never crazy over Bush or Cheney, but I would love to see a debate between Cheney and Obama. Cheney was describing how water boarding may have saved American lives. Meanwhile, yesterday Obama was explaining how water boarding was not worth doing to save American lives. He said it was important how Europeans and the Arab world knows that we are too civilized to “torture” terrorists to save our own people. Yeah, the Muslims must know that we are above waterboarding. Does anyone else find it a little scary that we’ve got lawyers conducting our business/economic policies?), birth status, legitimacy of promises/anecdotes/recollections (cough-Joe Biden)….. Point being, I hope what these people do on the domestic front doesn’t cause too much future damage, like say runaway inflation or losing our credit staus abroad. Is this a first step into state-controlled media? I know it’s just a pick-up game, but that’s just it – it’s a pick-up game of basketball, innocuous, innocent – easy to dip the toe into the water. What happens as the Pool is excluded from increasingly “sensitive” events and conferences and the White House gets to put its own media spin on matters of growing importance?
I think Obama is articulate, intelligent, and clearly WANTS to do what he thinks is right…but something tells me that we don’t quite know what liberties (free press, freedom from government intervention, government involvement in the private sector, talk of salary caps in un-bailed out businesses, etc.) he’s willing to axe to make that happen.
And before you start: no, it wasn’t right for Bush to curtail liberties either. Just because Bush did it doesn’t mean that no one should complain. People who always say “well, what about Bush?!” only expose their thin grasp of the matter.

Today I read that the libs want to indoctrinate kids with LGBT education. I never thought that it would go this far but they have the money that prostitutes our govt. And with the hate crime bill on the verge of becoming law; it will send all pastors running for cover and the beginning of the dissolution of traditional faiths opening the door for some utopian world religion.
They are indoctrinating our kids-destroying the middle class-about to check mate the economy with a zero value dollar and high inflation. And soon no news due to newspaper closures or pay for news plans. Who will pay for lib b.s. news anyway!
The end game is when they allow illegals to become citizens making our elections watered down by those who need socialist hand outs.
Libs have been snake bitten, it is about those left to stand up and be Americans and save what ever chance we have left to fight our enemies that want this country and our constitution in history books only.

i went to china in 1996 and the communist government had a station like this where they would filter out what they wanted people to see and not see. if we keep this up otv will be up there with north korea, iran, china, and other media controlling nations.
but then again i’m sure this is just a small part of the bigger socialist agenda he has planned. he’s already made moves to controll the banks/financial system, auto industry, government controlled health care, and the media would be a logical step.
for me, having gone through the cold war i’ve never supported socialism for the USA but it seems to be quite “trendy” with this administration.

Posted by: brian | May 22, 2009, 12:53 pm 12:53 pm

This is really starting to get scary folks. first King Obama decides to nationalize the financial industry. that not being enough he says” Ohh we cant allow the automobile industry to fail and allow other nations to be sole suppliers.” And so his plan? TAKE Chrysler and GIVE it to the Italians, and keeping some US Govt stake. force GM into a similar deal. next i hear there is talk of nationalizing, ohh I’m sorry bailing out the Newspapers. So once Obama has all the banks under his control, the news media, and heavy manufacturing, what do you think comes next?

Can you imagine the furor if Pres. Bush had hustled the press corps over behind the shrubs while a sanitized version of events was produced for public consumption? This bunch is so arrogant that they believe they can do anything without fear of criticism. Fact is, they have reason for their confidence. This article is actually surprising for it’s mild criticism of OTV.

This guy is a piece of work that is the MOST secretive president we have ever had. I predict that he will go down in history as one of the worst presidents ever.

The trick here is the method of introduction. They introduce their own Government Media Complex Outlet covering a light-hearted event. Anticipating public query, then they justify it as harmless and only playful. Then the new kid on the block slowly becomes the bully and pushes the other players off the street. What you are witnessing is a socialist take over where the Government is positioning itself to control information.

Frog boiling school of creeping Fascism.
You don’t surround buildings with tanks, you don’t have the para-military police shutdown the opposition newspapers, you don’t do mass arrests of your political opponents.
You just methodically day by day accumulate a little more power, eliminate one more road bloc or safe guard to dictatorial rule.
With one party rule, and a state controlled media, you slowly establish the ‘Dictatorship of the Proletariat’ one step at a time.
If even token opposition arises(i.e. ‘tea parties”) you have your Pravda and Investia clones demean and defame, and slander the protesters.
If that’s not sufficient you employ Jesse Jackson style rent-a-mobs.
Publicly protest illegal immigration, corrupt labor unions or the homosexual agenda in any major city and you will be subject to physical attack.
There are at least a dozen leftist community organizations currently receiving millions of dollars in Federal financing that employ their own goon squads to assault and intimidate anyone who opposes their agenda.

The man has always been a radical Marxist, why is this surprising? The only thing that is surprising about it is the fact that Obama appears to actually be receiving criticism from someone besides Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. But Obama looks good in a suit, smiles at the right times and makes good speeches, with minimal substance…so all will be forgiven, and his poll numbers will remain very high because America wants to like this president.

I think Obama is the biggest mistake in American history, but I also think we can let this one slide. It was basketball. The White House press corps would complain if they weren’t allowed to be in the room when Obama gets his next colonoscopy. (But don’t be surprised if you see Obama’s colon on the cover of Time Magazine on a news stand near you.

Does that mean that the President is hiring directors for his OTV? Gosh, how much money to get these “events”
perfect for Obama. How much money does he use for these renditions that his directors are perfecting? The most vain President ever. How much money does this fool spend events like this.
Is the the public paying for this? Or does he use his campaign money for perfect renditions? It better be the latter.

I said, when I first realized that Obama would become president, that he reminds me of Hitler and scares the bee-jeebeez out of me… Everything he is doing is soooo remininescent (sp?) of pre-WWII Germany/Hitler. Taking over the banks, telling people how he will make their world rosy, putting the country in high debt with projects (the autobaun was built then), putting totally unqualified people in office (one of his high ranking officials was a CHICKEN farmer), cutting out rights and democracy (yes, Germany WAS a democracy when Hitler was elected, and then he abolished the government). I have already realized that saying or writing anything about him isn’t good because I think it will come back to haunt someone in the near future. HE SCARES ME, as the “hitler” wanna-be he seems to be. Now taking over the media, slowly but surely in slow measured strokes, is just another facet of his work…

I think the outrage at this just goes to show that the media is more concerned with covering stupid little public events than they are real news stories. This should be no more than a blurb on page 7 of the sports section, not headline news as the media so often purports it to be.

i saw an adult film star at local gentleman’s establishment @ 15 years ago. she had a wrangler with her who took a $10 photo of you with the headliner on your lap, tongue in your ear, licking your face, playfully tugging on your junk, etc. (pick one.) the polaroid film was pre-printed with the star’s signature on the bottom to maximize efficiency. that’s pretty much what the white house is doing.

Compare and contrast his speech with Cheney’s – the adult vs the man-child. One realistic, one drunk on power.
Obama is thin-skinned. I hope and pray the media wakes up and starts asking the hard questions before it’s too late. It would only take one really hard press conference to see this man blow his stack. We need to see the real Obama, not the carefully constructed facade we’re seeing now. Seems the Obama administration is testing the waters.
Most politicians wish to control the message. It is a bad wish
This test of a ‘non political’ event is a useful place to start. For those who say this is not important news worth convering, any citizen interaction with the President is important news to be documented. Any guest might be the rare protestor, or have a mental problem and attempt an act against the President
The press is there because they are the eyes of the public, Obama’s bosses
The visit was done when Obama was on the clock, working for his bosses
Obama may be controlling the message but he is also controlling what will be written in history books.
Thus grow Caesar
For Obama this is not a difficult leap because he chooses the church of hating America so he has no emotional need to preserve the institutions of his enemy
The press has to understand Obama’s goal: if you are not for me, you are against me. You guys have to stop listening to Limbaugh, remember?

Compliments to the POTUS for one more of a long list of controls that help him shape what we want to see. Regular focus groups, teleprompters, no-photography sessions, the list goes on.
And yet it is so funny how the media essentially bent over backward with so much trust in him, and now they’re getting so little in return. Wake up media…report what you see…not just what others want you to see…After all you did it so well with the last administration.

Remember, we are stuck with him for the next three and a half years. It’s either him or Biden or Pelosi. What a chain of command choice! We are screwed.
Ironically, everything that is now happening was foretold by his opponents.
He now has own press corp. When he was running for office, he had said this country needs a civilian police force with military powers. Was there such a force in Hitler’s Germany during the war? Gestapo? Brown shirts? Confiscating the civilians privately owned guns would help keep a dictatorship in power. Is this what the people of this country look for. They want to give up their freedom so that the government can control and own everything. Unfortunately if the government takes care of people from cradle to grave, some people are willing to give up what little freedom they now have. People don’t want to be responsible for their own welfare.

It is bold for this so-called journalist question the motives of our President. Is this an American journalist?
Obama was duly elected by the people. This is like questioning the will of the people! Do you realize we live in a democracy? The people matter. Look it up.
If the White House excludes the press corps it may be for reasons ranging from operational efficiency of government to national security for all we know. If journalists don’t like the White House beat, they are free to report on matters elsewhere.
Perhaps if fewer members of the press corps liked to hear themselves tirelessly recite long-winded questions in front of the President, this kind of separation wouldn’t be necessary. The President has the power to decide whom he speaks to, what he speaks about, when he speaks publicly, where he will allow people to see him speaking, how that speaking will be covered. Do you remember that from grade school, ABC? Who, what, when, where, why, how?
Time for some remedial education, apparently.

Let’s not kid ourselves, we all know where his legions are. His followers have been disillusioned and are lamenting. Their dreams have evaporated along with that of MLK.

Taxpayer money is going to this?
There is something wrong with this new President.
This daily display of attempting to debase the prior Administration, and other political opposition, is a sign of a deep seated partisan insecurity. Very much like ‘Nixonian’ or ‘Clintonian’ weakness that lead to disaster.
The campaign is over…
Yet, even today, Mr. Obama and his Administration decided to politicize an address at the U.S. Naval Academy Graduation Celebration on Friday.
President Obama’s own Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and his Vice President, Joe Biden, voted to use force in Iraq. There certainly must have been cause, right?
This is getting really ugly, as every where we turn, Mr. Obama seems desperate to bash the prior offering. But, the hypocrisy is growing, as Mr. Obama and his Administration has adopted nearly all of their policies in the GWOT.
It is regretful, but Mr. Obama is not being honest with anyone it seems. It is a constant flow of Partisan dribble, revealed as nonsense, while the Bush Policies are embraced.
President Obama suggests the USA lost it’s way, by fighting for the liberation over 25 Million brutally oppressed human beings in Iraq? From a Monster who funded PLO Suicide Bombers?
That is nonsense.
There is something deeply misguided about what is going on with this new President.
Long ago, the Clintons were so insecure, they overtly obsessed – (still do), about their image and the opposition. It created horrid policy, like the one that lied about Genocide in Rwanda.
Nixon was the same … focusing on meaningless political opposition, instead of the job at hand. He ended up being a joke of a criminal.
Mr. Obama’s release of a select amount of information from secret CIA Memos, regarding enhanced interrogation techniques that saved human lives, was entirely ‘Nixonian’ in context. It was a mindless political stunt, which seems based on pure insecurity.
Today’s vapid politicizing of the Ceremonies at the U.S. Naval Academy, was just icing on a very concerning cake.
The Obama Administration’s preempting of the former Vice President’s speech the other day, smells of paranoia. The wrapping of the President in imagery, hiding behind Flags and the Constitution, was simply sophomoric.
Where did we get such vapid Leadership?
Where is the unifying effort?
Mr. Obama is looking like an insecure, dishonest, disaster.
He has lied about earmarks, lobbyists, presidential signing statements, bows to Kings, the expression of Caterpillar CEO’s, rendition, etc.
Nearly everyday, this Administration seems eager to condescend, demean, even criminalize, the previous efforts before him. It is ugly.

Sheesh! Preach Preach Preach! Was that a basketball team or Americorp commercial? I don’t think the new WH propaganda dept is going to get much of the market share if this is what they are turning out. At least outside of the government schools that will probably have a daily WH video to watch on CCTV…right after the pledge of allegiance.

How fitting: this, on the same day we learn that Venezuela police have raided the country’s only opposition broadcaster. BHO is taking lessons from his buddy, Hugo. First, decide what the official story is; then eliminate the competition. Complete control.

This is just the start. Just a testing of the waters. Soon (next year or two) all photos and reports will originate from the whitehouse and be distributed to the press.
Gone will be the pressers the we all know. He and He alone will dictate what will and will not be published or broadcast to the little people.

The bitter cynicism is really sad. Folks should really put this in perspective. It’s a photo op. It’s a nice thing to do. This isn’t Watergate. This isn’t bodies returning at Army bases. We are not being denied access to essential information that our government is hiding. It’s kids at the
White House. Come on!
Here’s the news-government is reflective of the populous. Bummer if the comments to this story are that as well.

The press made themselves irrelevant by not covering the elections fairly and now they are going to complain they do not have access to something as silly as this. Give me a break. Do some real reporting (objective). Ask some tough questions of these leaders whom you help elect as king.

Come on Hugh, you really think they are censoring this for National Security after opening up the interrogation memos? Obama is too full of himself. This is no different than hauling teleprompters everywhere and staging his press conferences so that he knows the questions in advance. The man can’t “perform” without controlling everything. Bad sign or things to come.

Let’s make sure we understand this correct: the sycophant media are complaining ONLY when their messiah prevents them from showing their version of the propaganda and shows his own version, without their help. And we are supposed to be outraged? Give me a break! I have been outraged with the media for many years, especially with their love affair of the ONE. Of course, they will continue to send forth their own version of events, and the message will be the same as all “main stream media” as they are pawns of the ONE.

Freedomintheus, I think you have misunderstood what I was stating. I am not for the way Obama is running things. I used the Gestapo or SS as a comparison as to the way things seem to be going with this administration. I think it sucks!! This country is in bad shape and is getting worse in more ways then one. It seems like anyone worthwhile having as a President does not have a chance. The Democrats are like puppets. Their leader pulls the strings and they jump. The Republicans party has let down their followers by becoming like the liberal Democrats. It is really a frustrating situation. The liberal mass media has the general populace dumbed down and brainwashed.

Understand something, fellow Americans. The reason the Democratic party is still attacking Conservative is to destroy all opposition before the mid-term election and the next presidential election, because they know that they must have complete control to continue the socialization of America. They cannot allow another viable threat to exist. That us why the huge donation to Acorn, for instance. They have to move quickly with these socialist program before the American voter wakes up and comes to his senses. These people have a plan, and we had better get organized now, or lose everything our ancesters have bled and died for.

Do you care to hazard a guess when the Whitehouse Press Corps will be excluded from important meetings?
It probably won’t happen till after ya’ll are accustomed to being excluded from innocuous events, when you have to get the report from the White House news room.
Anyway, welcome to the real world of the Obamanation.

This reminds me of how the old USSR would only allow state propaganda media outlets (Pravda) to only show the leaders in a “positive” light. This is also similar to how the communist North Koreans only portray “Dear Leader” Kim Jong “Ill” in a positive light. Obama the imposter seems to have ripped a page out of their playbook. Control the message by having 100% control over the media outlet is nothing short of fascism.

I have a pool in my back yard, and the government makes that pool better by regulating it, and making it safer. It has protections on the drain, and certain safety stripes, energy efficiency requirements, and so forth. Just like seat belts or CAFE standards in cars.
The press also has a “pool.” That’s why they call it the “press pool”. The government can make that pool better too, just the like the pool in your back yard. They can make the pool stronger, safer, and more efficient.
I’m surprised this blogger went to journalism school. We waste fuel flying all these reporters around following the White House and their staff. Not only will this free up the time of White House staffers who are busy running the country, but it will safe on fuel. If you haven’t noticed, there’s a global warming crisis! It’s an event for a women’s basketball team, for goodness sake. It’s completely farcical to be relating it to Pravda. Really? The White House is controlling all women’s basketball media! Communism!
This IS a change – the White House is OPENLY SHOWING that it did this media report.
The Bush administration COVERTLY made fake media reports to spin events purely in their favor, and Fox News received talking points memos from White House officials.
If you condemn this administration for controlling a media report for a basketball team’s victory party, you must recognize what the Bush administration did was wholly wrong.

To be somewhat contrarian, I would actually welcome media coverage of itself by the White House, because at least it would be undeniably clear that the content is propaganda. Many any of the network and cable news channels portray themselves as “impartial” and “neutral” but, let’s face it, we all know that there is a liberal media bias. I probably don’t need to remind you of numerous studies that have shown that Obama et al got considerably more positive press than the GOP. So, rather than PRETEND that the press are impartial, I’d prefer that the White House act as its own propaganda organ.

There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set.

How many opinions do you believe are swayed by what’s written here? Contact the people in your “REAL” community, and find out what you can do locally, to affect what’s going on nationally. That’s what happened last election, “ACORN” love or hate um, you can’t deny their results. Obama is operating right out of the play book of the commies from back in the days of the old Soviet Union. The sad thing is the press who shares most of the credit for putting this guy in by not properly vetting him to begin with has to much invested in him to speak up. From trying to shut down talk radio to making the press irrelevant this guy is a dictator in the making. Look for a contrived “crisis” to justify seizing peoples guns, shutting down the internet and talk radio. This administration will take control by inducing fear and panic. Our enemies are sitting back letting this guy run this country into the ground and the press will not speak up other than to bash Bush and blame him for everything now and the future. It is time for people to march en mass to Washington and their state capitols and demand these people resign.

“You do realize that the whole war was cleaned up by the Bush admin and the press was tightly controlled not for soldier safety as they might have argued but for safety of the admins image control.”
Complete crap. Every unit in Iraq had embedded reporters who were allowed to film and photograph nearly everything except wounded or KIA.
If there was any concerted effort to ‘censor’ reporting, I’m not aware of it. I’m sure the media would have made it headlines if it were the case.
Some of their footage, for example a Marine shooting a wounded insurgent in a mosque who was feigning death, raised huge outcries by antiwar activists who forgot how the footage got out in the first place; the US allowed it to be released.
Now if you want to talk about ‘cleanup’ and ‘image control’…all you have to do is talk to CNN’s Baghdad bureau who knowingly refused to report on the atrocities Saddam perpetrated on his own people.
CNN was allowed to remain in Baghdad while other media were kicked out for HONEST reporting.

I remember during the Iraq invasion, liberals complained that the White House produced fluff news pieces to be shown in Iraq. They whined and said it was propaganda.
So using government resources to convince a military foe to stop fighting and just may save soldiers’ lives is a bad thing, according to liberals…but using government resources and blocking the free press to perpetuate the myth that President Uh-uh-uh-bama can play basketball is quite okay.

Dear Media Fools,
Obama absolutely USED you to get elected and now he selectively shuts YOU out whenever he feels like it. You got USED yet you still follow him around like star-struck puppy dogs. When are YOU going to take off the kid gloves and do some real reporting about Mr. Obama? Are you afraid of protests by the elitist snob liberals of this nation? I’m serious…are YOU really THAT afraid? A few protests would actually boost your ratings. Then you could continue to push THEIR buttons for even more protests and even bigger ratings. But YOU don’t seem to get it. Even as YOUR industry faces imminent collapse you let Google, Yahoo, and Team Obama walk all over YOU. You can make the call but if I were a media owner I’d be letting the ax fall on the political perverts in charge of this country instead allowing myself and my industry to take the fall. You can make the call…it’s your industry.

I could never understand the reasoning of why somebody should vote for Obama. He’s inexperienced and aside from a few things I agree on, I never saw this guy as a person who could solve the nation’s problems. I know he has a ‘celebrity like appeal’ but I don’t worship the cult of celebrity, many celebrities don’t seem happy despite their sucess, So I had to be fair when thinging about who to vote for. I don’t think he can solve the nation’s problems. I hate it when I’m right about this stuff.

IdahoGal, remember the day after Inauguration Day when he went into the press room and the reporters asked him questions. His reply was, “I didn’t come down here to put up with this” and acted like a spoiled child. He will browbeat the media when they do put the screws to him. It’s only a matter of time before we see it happen. It should be entertaining.

Was it 52% of the electorate voted for the great one? I never realized that we had that many Kool-Aid drinkers in America. I just can’t get over the fact that with a straight face, he has the nerve to say that we should be more concerned about what the Muslims and the Euopeans think about us when we waterboard the terrorists. In other words, so what if a few hundred or thousands of Americans get killed by these terrorist plans. We should not “torture” them. Next he will be apologizing to those terrorists families for waterboarding. Give me a break.

None of this really matters, the DNC began to unravel this week…and the “lame-stream” propaganda squad too: NYT has about 12 to 18 months of solvency, TIME less, etc, etc, etc. Oz-Bama’s speech on security made so many feel insecure that the media actually commented on “problems” with his “argument”. WOW….that was a first. Pelosi is a complete joke, Biden messed up (again) in Turkey calling Obama’s move to close GITMO “a can or worms”. Blue Dog Dems are restless. The Obama Admin is the Carter Administration with a little more polish, but not quite enough. Polls are beginning to show stress, by July 4th the numbers will be tanking because of lack of confidence. So let them play their little game “The World According To Garp-Obama”. It will be all over and in free fall by Fall, and maybe some sensible politicians will begin to put practical policies back in play! Hey, hava a good Memorial Day Weekend.

mojo3 – It’s called Kool-Aid, sounds like you drank some. I really have some serious concerns with this. Where is the money coming from for Obama to have his own TV station. Gov’t has added 78,000 jobs while other industries are still laying off like crazy. We all know how inefficient the government is… and now they have there hand on more money than ever… and this is how they are spending it.
Second point… Obama’s hints at tax-hikes have only made this recession worse. Businesses have laid off more than they had to so they can save and fix balance sheets and re-org ahead of tax-hikes in years to come.
Obama has already ruined this nation.

President Obama is expressing the will of the people as he nationalizes Wall St., the banks, the auto industry and the healthcare system. When they voted for him they voted for enhanced government control of the greedy capitalist businesses. It is only right and proper that he also nationalize the newspapers, radio and television stations. Doing so will make sure that the truth that Obama speaks with every word from his mouth will make it to the people without the interference and distortion of the racist, white oligarchs who currently control the nation’s news media. We, the people, need and want President Obama to control the news we hear so that our minds will not be polluted by the hateful message of the racist, white, media oligarchs. Power to Obama *means* power to the people! Obama for President forever!!!

I wonder if all of the United Auto Workers who voted for Mr. Big realized what they were voting for? He is now their boss. At least at Chrysler and GM. Ford Motor Co. was smart enough to tell them to stuff it.So now we are going to have mini-cars sold to us. They may or may not be manufactured here or in China. The administration is looking out for the American worker. Even though GM has already threatened to send lots of American jobs to China. After all, it is important that we look out for the Chinese. They are kind enough to send us their poison dog food for our pets. Lead filled toys for our children and even toxic sheetrock for our buildings to be built with. When IBM recently laid off about three hundred workers in America and sent those jobs over to either India or Pakistan and the great one was questioned about how he would stop that, he said that those weren’t important jobs. We needed better jobs here. Tell those three hundred American workers that those jobs were not important. He tells us that Nuclear power plants were not to be built over here anymore, yet he is giving the technology to the United Arab Republic for them to use. Huh! Am I missing something here?

On the one hand I’m amused by the network pet doggies of Obama’s regime showing such jealousy of the Obama “news” organ. On the other this portends serious faltering of the role of the press, something they forfeited at any rate long ago. This Obama person possesses an incredible, boundless ego. I pray the nation survives his self-indulgent, Chicago Mafia style and God saves us from his ilk. He is, actually, quite evil, but his master, the Beast, only employs him so far as the American people allow. I am not going to read all (now 625) comments; the first 5 I read were mind numbing enough. There are so many problems with anyone having a problem with this. A few of them are…
There’s the ABC White House Correspondent who thinks he’s representing just because he’s in the press pool that is allowed to be there at all: He’s a professional and of course unbiased unlike those White House interns or whoever they are that shot and produced the piece. (I have to assume bias is what is being objected to here when the administration gets to tell about the event as they wanted to using their own media.)
Mr. Tapper writes rhetorically about the hoops eclipse: “…but is it right to do so by preventing actual reporters from covering something? (Even something like a pickup basketball game).” This seriously answers itself unless you’ve been drinking Rush Limbaugh’s cool aide. For those of you with a blue mustache the correct answer in this case is A: “Yes. It is right.” This was a woman’s basketball team not Bernie Madoff right?
Then there’s the whining about not being there to be in the Presidents face when he went around the corner to shoot hoops with his guests. It sounds like the press was already there (couldn’t they have taken pictures of they were not supposed to be looking at before the game?) but they just got told to give it a rest for a game of hoops. They were relegated to only hearing some people enjoy for a few brief moments a once in a lifetime moment with the President. Yup, democracy be damned. What has happened to this country when the White House paparazzi can’t get in the presidents face when he is shooting hoops.
So is there a smack of “The Bill of Rights is being trampled on” or is it just about the absurd notion the “real press” could have done a better job of presenting the little get-together?

This does not look like an isolated case. The great speech in the National Archive building was off limits to the press also. Only the OTV (Obama TV) was allowed to record, edit, and stage this production. One writer above was right, this smacks of a National Government TV station, run by the White House. Those who voted for this man, certainly deserve everything he gives them, or doesn’t give them.

Awwwwwww, the poor liberal media got “dissed” by their messiah. What a shame. They have no qualms about their anointed one taking over banks and auto companies but how dare he cover his own photo ops and interviews! What blasphemy! I have two thoughts for those of you in the media who have swallowed the blue pill… you got exactly what you wanted by putting this guy on a pedestal, so you have no reason to complain; and does any one of you have the mettle to question why wasn’t any of the white basketball players interviewed. But then again none of you has what it takes to be a non-partisan unbiased reporter.

Speaking of cute little logos… did you ever notice… the White House logo depicts a white flag flying from the White House? I’m not saying this is an Obama thing… the logo was approved long before Obama was probably born… but these things don’t happen by accident. I mean lots of people look at a logo before it’s approved… right? So why then does the White House logo show a flag of surrender flying from the White House? BTW… don’t say it’s a stylistic thing and there’s not enough detail to show a flag with stripes… that’s not true… the WH logo shows great detail… even down to the railing along the roof of the WH… so what up?

Well there you have it the media feels left out. Cry foul media you deserve it this socialist president will use and abuse you until you wake up and smell the coffee. Hopefully the media will chalk it up to a lesson learned and will start reporting all real “news” which is what they should have been doing all along. It was odd how only the black players were interviewed. Just one question: Why only black players? Had this been a white president the question would have been raised by all black organizations on how racist this “white” president was. In the view of the world there should not be black, white, but by the Obama whitehouse acting the way it is it is reigniting the race wars and forcing people to choose sides. That is wrong.

What we are seeing is the true Obama: a self-absorbed metrosexual fop who hides behind his teleprompters and messages from his Blackberry!
After seeing how Helen Thomas made Robert Gibbs look like a dunce regarding the low level of Obama’s “intestinal fortitude,” it’s clear that “The Mess – iah” needs an additional level of protection from an increasingly incredulous public. [My hunch is that 'Tea Parties' are going to be increasingly well-attended.]
The following quotes from Machiavelli [The Prince] apply to how Obama is performing:
The prince must consider, as has been in part said before, how to avoid those things which will make him hated or contemptible.
It makes him contemptible to be considered fickle, frivolous, effeminate, mean-spirited, irresolute, from all of which a prince should guard himself as from a rock; and he should endeavour to show in his actions greatness, courage, gravity, and fortitude; and in his private dealings with his subjects let him show that his judgments are irrevocable, and maintain himself in such reputation that no one can hope either to deceive him or to get round him.

It seems that most people still don’t get it with Obama, they are so in love with his persona that they overlook what is happening to their country. Even the press is beginning to understand the absolute control Obama wants over the media, Well they asked for it now they have it and good luck to them. When they do wake up it will be too late to do any reporting from the Gulags. Words from the White house…”don’t browse Drudge and don’t listen to Limbaugh”. That sounds just a little controlling to me, what say you.

Obama or White House media??? So how exactly is that any different then the current lap dog media coalition (ABC/CBS/NBC-MSNBC-CNN)?

Posted by: richmond | May 23, 2009, 8:57 am 8:57 am

This is HORRIBLE. It is a Saturday Night Live sketch about a narcissistic dictator taking over America creating his own propaganda machine because the adoring, fawning press wasn’t adoring and fawning enough. It would be very amusing if it weren’t actually happening.
Obama is creating a propaganda machine to go along with the rest of his Marxist program.
REJECT Obama’s propaganda machine. Call the White House. Call your representatives. Let them know this is NOT ACCEPTABLE in America.

He’s taking back the media. A lesson learned from the successful media strategies of former President Bush.

The media had it’s chance to ask tough question before the election, it’s too late now, Obama has his own reporters and station and he can call on who he wants, answer what questions he wants, and have Gibbs spin it like he wants. Too late, yall are history. We have a new dictator thanks to yall.

Apparently only the black players get interviewed.

Posted by: Joe | May 23, 2009, 11:57 am 11:57 am

Why did they only interview the white male coach? Three female assitants and one who is black were not interviewed. If you have time to complain you can make an issue out of anything. Ask yourselves, what are you doing right now to make this country stronger? Complaining and making up nonsense conspiracies isn’t the answer.

On 5/23/09 at 9:51:24 a.m., Barry said “President Obama is expressing the will of the people as he nationalizes Wall St., the banks, the auto industry and the healthcare system.” and so on. Obama for President forever!!!”
In addition to making one of the most idiotic statements I’ve ever seen, he ignores facts. Does he want to live in Zimbabwe where Robert Mugabe keeps a tight rein on the country, controlling businesses (what few exist), the distribution of food (many are starving), health care (for him, his family, and his trusted aides), and the news media (wait a minute, what news media??), and where life expectancy has declined by 10 years or more.
Here are the facts: I just Googled and as the voting age population numbers varied on several sites, I averaged the VAP from data from 2-3 sites:
- 216.35 million voting-age legal US citizens.
- 131,032,799 actually voted.
- 69,297,997 voted for Obama (52.886%) and
- 61,734,802 voted for the other guys
- 32.03% of eligible voters selected B. Obama to be the leader.
- 67.97% chose the other guys (and one idiot female) or didn’t have enough sense/gumption/whatever to vote at all.

did anyone actually watch the video? Congrats to the UConn Huskies, 39-0, National Champions!! So what that the media wasn’t invited to the impromptu hoop game …. sheesh. The champs got some private time shoot hoops with the prez. It was about the team, not the media …………….

Obama is his name, censorship is his game.

Posted by: Leslie | May 23, 2009, 2:23 pm 2:23 pm

The Bush White House managed the news in its own way! The entire Press Corps was not invited to every single event without exception. In fact there was a general complaint of managed press conferences when they were held at all.

Mr. T,
Your colleagues traded their objectivity for ideology with regards to President Obama the second he finished speaking at the Democratic Convention in 2004. If a Republican President tried to pull this nonsense they would be waving copies of 1984 and screaming bloody murder in the briefing room. Face it, for at least the next four years the press has decided to abdicate it’s fourth estate watchdog powers. You are quickly going to find yourself a lone wolf in this area. Did any other outlets even pick up on this story?

Posted by: aljack | May 24, 2009, 4:54 pm 4:54 pm

I find it funny that CatGut claims that the “right wing (nuts) are complaining about Obama leaving the media out. Seems to me it is the MAINSTREAM MEDIA that is complaining. Us “right wing nuts” expected no less from Obama.

This is the only president I can recall with his own logo (almost Napoleanic, the little bees, etc.). And a continuing political campaign. What happened to the saying “All I know is what I see on the news or read in the paper”? Cause there is more to the story, and more ways to find it out.

Obama has divided the nation since the election with significant distortions from the norm that Presidents respectfully follow.
Attacks on religion, lack of respect of the military/VA benefits, lowering policemans fund for cops who die in the line of duty, refusing to meet with the Pope while visiting Rome, National Prayer Day, media manipulation and deception over TARP funding, refusing to acknowledge that the CBO report proved TARP spending was not needed but e chose to steal billions from taxpayers for special interests and earmark scams.
The list goes on and on in addition to media manipulation and the encouragement of hatred towards republicans. Threatening those who choose free speech is not Presidential!!!
Barack Hussein Obama is not the President you voted for!!!!
