Guns and Credit Cards – Bills of Rights Converge
ABC’s Z. Byron Wolf reports: What does the credit card bill of rights have to do with the actual bill of rights? Guns, apparently.
Senators have just passed 67-29 an amendment to the so-called "Credit Cardholder Bill of Rights" that would give states the ability to regulate concealed weapons in state parks and in national parks.
The credit card bill is intended to curb abusive and deceptive practices by the credit industry.
Current regulations in national parks require that gun owners have their guns unloaded and stored while they are enjoying nature’s beauty in National parks.
Park Rangers have expressed concern that they’ll have more trouble pursuing poachers. Coburn sees both a states rights and second amendment issue.
Here’s what Coburn said on the Senate floor about his amendment: "This isn’t about a political vote. I know it seems that but that’s further from the truth than anything that I know. this is about the US. constitution. we have two agencies within the federal government who, through bureaucratic means, not a vote of the congress, have limited severely the second amendment rights of individuals in this country, both on national park and fish and wildlife service land."

Santorum: Money Will Not Defeat Obama, Ideas Will
Rick Santorum's Full Speech at CPAC 2012
Coburn squeezed this in on the eleventh hour.
This is a separate issue and does not belong
in this bill. There is no rationale in placing this
in without debate or justification. There are safety
reasons on why this is done and this was a
typical sneaky tactic used. Leave this line item
out. There’s plenty of time to discuss it later.

And this reflects poorly upon Obama, how? I do not get the connection. This is so typical of the anti-Obama media…

Are you aware that Native Americans also have unlimited access to and fishing rights on these lands-This could lead to an Indian uprising! Foregoing that interesting thought, it could also result in a visitor lowering as I know that people from States other than the Wild West will be reluctant to take their kids into harms way-Keep your guns on your pick-up trucks except during hunting season. I worry about going up North with the Michigan Militia running around!

Jeez Matt… where do you see any attack on Obama here?
Holy cow, go back to clinging to your guns and religion, you sure sound really bitter.

While I am all in favor of protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves with guns in national parks, this is a wrong way to do it. I’m tired of multi-issue bills. With the extreme lengths of these bills (that the politicians don’t read anyway) we don’t know what the effects are until much later. With the massive stimulus bill (which most didn’t read) any politician could have inserted any amendment. Ban the Republican Party? Declare the NRA a terrorist organization? Undermine parts of the Constitution? Anything can happen when we continue with massive multi-issue bills that our leaders don’t study before passing.

I think the key words are:
In a separate 279-147 vote, the House also approved an unrelated Senate amendment that permits concealed weapons in national parks and wildlife refuges where allowed by states.
Democrats are in control

Seems someone from Detroit..of all places. Is afraid of the Michigan Militia. Hilarious….Detroit is the murder capital of the U.S. But…I supposse as long as it’s blacks killing people..then, that’s ok. Shhhh….someone might cry, “racist”…can’t state the truth or the obvious. If you don’t like guns..don’t buy one…if you think are National Parks are so safe? You’d be surprised how many Park Rangers have been murdered by Mexican cartel members running drugs thru the parks.Oh….there’s that racist remark again….I meant, the poor undocumented human beings only wanting to better themselves.Have a nice day…smile.

I’m an advocate for lifting restrictions on loaded concealed firearms, and would like to see such a law passed allowing them in National Parks. However, this sneaky crap of sticking it on a totally unrelated bill, I don’t know, you should be thrown out of congress for this kind of crap.

If our legislature had any integrity it would outlaw riders on bills. If proposed legislation is worthy, it should stand on its own right, and not be folded into another bill as a rider, often in the dead of night.
