is the media opening up a new campaign to associate Obama with Islam. He is doing what is right, and some special interest groups in this country can’t stand the fact that they voted for him.

I believe him to be a Muslim at heart, or at least a Muslim sympathizer. Being a member of Rev. Wright’s Trinity church does not in any way way mean he is a Christian. Members of that congregation were not required to foreswear any other religion to “join”.

Well, one thing during the election and another after, it happens.
I am not going to hate on him for his religion, whatever it is.
However, I would hope he didn’t internalize some of the secular stuff Pastor Wright said about America, Jewish people, etc. or else we may see some real problems in policy. It is possible that he went there to make political ties and now that he has moved on he will abandon them. That would be realpolitik, but it would also be a good thing. He has made the choice to stay in Iraq, and to go center on some things. So the secular matters seem to stand in different places issue by issue. It is hard to pin Obama down on some things, but he is really remaking the economic structure of the nation, perhaps that is his greatest focus right now.
In terms of international relations, he’s ticked off the British with diplomatic faux pas, the Germans with economic issues and the GM/Opel restructuring, and the French, as well as being hard on Israel. Remember when he said he’d build better relations with our allies? I hope that he can, despite early stumbles.
I also hope they were stumbles, and not intentional insults to them. Because if our allies lose trust in the US’ friendship we will be in the 1970s again and that would not be good at all.
That has nothing to do with his religious choices, per se, his effects will be judged for their effect on the nation and on the world, in secular terms. His religion will not matter unless he ascribes some motivations to it, which he hasn’t made public yet, and indeed may keep private, as is any person’s right in America.
Past that, who knows? We still have yet to see, it hasn’t been much farther than 100 days so far.

Shame on our media. They are the ones that allowed Obama to be elected President. Everything from here on is Obama’s, the liberal kooks, the Dem’s, and the media’s fault. Also, Obama has used his middle name multiple times himself, including at his inauguration, I believe. So, maybe Tapper thinks BHO was intentionally offending himself at those times? Or maybe context is important in these situations.

Anyone here who is an actual Christian knows they aren’t supposed to judge other people. If Obama says he is a Christian, then Christians should be glad to have the top political leader in the country endorsing their cause-that he is giving validity to it publicly. He does not have to claim a religion and could have said he was an atheist etc. I think that the Christian movement is forgetting that not everyone in this country is a Christian, and that in a lot of cases it is a considered a four letter word. In order to dispel the tarnished image of Christianity, Christians are going to have to demonstrate respect for others first, because nobody is going to return disrespect with respect. It is irrelevant whether he has been around people who are muslim during his life, and that he is not hateful towards them, any more than it is irrelevant that Christians have been around the divorced, homosexuals, abortionists, liars, and all of the other “sinners” they disagree with. It should go without saying that just because you encounter people in your lifetime whose beliefs are in contrast with your own, it does not make you one of them. Anyone here who is an actual Christian knows they aren’t supposed to judge other people. If Obama says he is a Christian, then Christians should be glad to have the top political leader in the country endorsing their cause-that he is giving validity to it publicly. He does not have to claim a religion and could have said he was an atheist etc. I think that the Christian movement is forgetting that not everyone in this country is a Christian, and that in a lot of cases it is a considered a four letter word. In order to dispel the tarnished image of Christianity, Christians are going to have to demonstrate respect for others first, because nobody is going to return disrespect with respect. It is irrelevant whether he has been around people who are muslim during his life, and that he is not hateful towards them, any more than it is irrelevant that Christians have been around the divorced, homosexuals, abortionists, liars, and all of the other “sinners” they disagree with. It should go without saying that just because you encounter people in your lifetime whose beliefs are in contrast with your own, it does not make you one of them. We are all separate people wiht intact identities, and to have the underlying belief that we enmesh with everyone and everything around ourselves begs the question of whether the people making these accusations belong in therapy to deal with issues of Codependency.

I too akane have the feeling I live in a country full of kindergarteners. The problem with Obama isn’t that he is politicizing his religion, it’s that he is promoting himself and not the principles of freedom this country was founded on. It’s not hard to discover his motives which are primarily a desire for acceptance. Those who we call great leaders were great because of their courage to stand by their principles, their power to lead based on their abilities to articulate and persuade others of those principles, and because of their fearless dedication to God. We don’t need another polititian.

They have to earn money thru hard work, good grades, and being involved in their school and in our family. If they want something, they figure out what they need to do to earn it. No one has ever helped us, we helped our selves. We decided where we wanted to be, planned out how to get there, and have worked our asses off. We try to instill the same in our children. Do you want to make us weak??? Do you think a weak United States of America will save you from running all over the world apologizing for us?

I hate to believe it, but you are probably so right about what you wrote in your post. I think now is the time, if you are a Christian, to start memorizing your verses, enjoying your families, and loving your neighbors more than you ever have. Obama’s group is trying to make charitable donations not be tax deductable. Preaching that homosexuality is a sin will soon be punished as a hate crime. The fault lies at the door of the church. We have shunned whom we should have loved. We have fought over doctrine, but not lived it. Most rational thinking Americans are very happy that we have a serious, intellectually capable president in these fairly serious times. Obama may be a nominal Christian, and may have had exposure to Islam growing up, but obviously does not let religion trump logic and reason in the way he views the world.
A minority of thinking Americans are unhappy with him, perhaps due to irreconcilable ideological differences, and some (really a small minority now) of course still harbor racial ideas that prevent them from accepting a nonwhite president.
And all the rest is just extremist blather from the fringes.

Please remember that the Democratic Congress has been in charge for well over 2 years now. In that time the stock market has lost about 50% of its net worth and we have seen the worst financial drop since the Great Depression.
It has not helped that President Bush was a “compassionate conservative” and increased social spending by so much. That contributed to the greatest deficits that the US have ever seen. These deficits, supported and added onto by Democrats (who wanted more) and Republicans (who are not fiscal conservatives), may be a big part of the struggles the US is seeing.
Of course, President Obama and the Democrats in Congress more than doubled the largest deficits ever seen and may be convincing corporations and wealthy to look for other places that are more accomodating (high taxes and cost of business = bad for business).

Islam is a collectivist society. That is it supports the good of the whole over individualism. This cultural bent explains a good deal of Obama’s thinking.
Note that Friedrich Hayek taught us that all collectivist states end up using coercion on its citizens to achieve compliance. Milton Friedman taught us that collectivism is necessarily inefficient.
I don’t want to lose my freedom. I don’t want Obama and his Islamic thinking to ruin our society.

Unfortunately, the “win/win” battle between parties is out of control. At the expense of our American Democracy, we sell out daily for personal gain – both parties do this. We now have a media that plays this game openly. Watching Hannity and then watching Olberman or Maddow is not entertaining, it’s a sad commentary on what is going on in 2009.
My main problem with Obama was his lack of experience but now I see a man that has become an enigma. He speaks to people in very conservative terms yet his actions can suggest nothing of the sort. He promised transparency and honesty and a moral administration – which is nothing new during election year politics – but the difference with Barack Obama is that people believed him, truly believed him.
I’m happy to support my President when he does something smart but again, his actions have been surprising in their lack of foresight. Perhaps this speaks to his lack of experience. Either way, it doesn’t strike me that anyone is able to reel him in.

I’m getting older and I hope wiser. It has come to my attention recently that people in general don’t get along. It saddens me but it’s true.My husband and I moved to a neighborhood, wanted to invite the neighbors to a party and found out how this one doesn’t get along with that one etc. Relatives don’t get along with certain relatives etc. North, south bias, black, white, and then you throw in religion and things really get interesting!Being human seems to mean being less than perfect by a long shot. The fact that we care so deeply about our President’s religion makes us as bad as any radical crusader or terrorist out there. He’s a master at saying one thing in sound clips and then doing the exact opposite in practice. Case in point? Yesterday’s announcement that the Government would stay out of making day to day decisions for GM, even going so far as to say they would not weigh in on factories. Same day, there’s a story where Detroit’s mayor says he had numerous calls with White House officials including Obama and that the President was “supportive of GM staying in Detroit”. Get it? Congress can’t establish a State sponsored religion! The courts have reasoned that any recognition of any religion by any governmental body is tantamount to sponsoring that religion, therefore, the words “Separation of Church and State” were coined to describe the ramifications of this portion of the first amendment.
It means, Bill, that any of us is free to worship as we see fit, or to not worship at all, and we don’t have to live in fear that we will be forced to follow a specific religion or be persecuted because we disagree with a given religion. Like it or not, it IS in the US Constitution and I believe it is just and fair.
Why do you care what Mr. Obama’s religion is? Why do you care what Mr. Obama’s Father’s religion is or was? If you make your decisions on this basis alone you’re giving away the logical abilities that God gave you (assuming you believe that) in favor of religious biggotism.

As is typical, people are losing focus on what is at issue. During the campaign, his muslim roots were downplayed as insignificant, a blip on the edge of the radar that had no impact on him.

Obama’s bailout, although difficult to stomach for everyone, was an attempt to help out all of the country, Main St. and not just Wall Street. Also, this country is great because of its Christian roots? Are you serious? Do you even read any history? The founding fathers were about as anti-religous as possible for the time they lived in. The constitution is basically a rip off of enlightenment, secular ideals. Not biblical ones. The country is great because it was one of the first to NOT define itself via a single religion.

We need to learn from our history, not try to cover it up. Something to watch is how similar ancient Rome was compared to America today. Our rise was the same, and our fall, I fear, will be equal, if not greater in proportion. The morals and standards and concepts that this country was built on are being destroyed (just as was done in Rome). Technology cannot change human nature. Human nature will not change. If we keep running in this path, we will follow in Rome’s footsteps and yet another great country will arise in our ashes, learning from our mistakes to later forget them and fall yet again.

When Mitt Romney ran for president there were all kinds of suggestions that he was a member of some weird cult, when in fact his religion is the same as Harry Reid’s. However, Reid’s religion is never an issue for anyone. I suspect that if a poll were taken many more people would know that Romney is a member of the LDS Church than Reid, despite the fact that Reid is in a position of great power and Romney is a mere citizen.

I agree with Eli comments. We pride ourselves on being a religion neutral society_ separation of state and church and so forth. Romney’s politics had nothing to do with his religion, and certainly if not the Republican flag bearer in the last general election, would have been a better more believable running mate for Sen McCain than Sarah Palin. The GOP is ‘doing itself in’ with all the religious right bull manure. I voted for Obama because he was the lesser evil. There are some good men in the GOP, with great ideas that are not being heard; Romney, Charlie Chris, Colin Powell and many others. Somebody has got to get this message to the ‘talking heads’ so we can get back ASAP to a two party system.

What is clear is that while Obama may have “Islamic” roots, and that his chosen religion is “Christianity,” he is basically irreligeous. WHat little bit one finds about his religeous beliefs is definately not Islamic, but not truly Christian.

A person is not “born Christian” just because he is born to Christian parents. Similarly, a person is not “born Muslim” just because he may be born to Muslim parents. The terms “Christian” and “Muslim” refer to belief systems that a person may or may not choose when they are old enough and/or indoctrinated enough to do so. There is no such thing as a Christian baby or a Muslim baby. Religious affiliation is not an inherited characteristic like blue eyes or dark skin.

A legitimate fear at this time is that, because of partisan politics and the pure hatred from the Left for anything christian or conservative, Obama will be given a pass for any and everything he does whether it’s good for this country or not. And by the time it truly hits the fan it’ll be far too late. I know plenty of Republicans that are saying that we blew it with Bush-I have yet to meet a Democrat that says we blew it with Clinton or , Obama. this mindset is very worrisome in it’s blindness and need to be right.

I’m unable to see hypocrisy here. Obama acknowledged his contact with those of the Muslim faith many times in his public life. Is it really duplicity that he failed before every campaign appearance to say the words, “By the way, my father was born a Muslim and I lived in Indonesia for a couple years as a child.?” Is it some kind of pandering to mention his heritage and experience in a statement while visiting the Muslim world? During the campaign, the Republican line tried very hard to re-ignite the fears that previously re-elected George W. Bush. In that context, the name “Hussein” was a trigger, and Democrats wisely played it down. Now, however, the President is free to be who he truly is — a man who actually is the American melting pot many of us older folk heard so much about growing up. He has an appreciation for the Muslim culture, having spent some time in it, as well as the Christian culture he accepts himself and is espoused by his family. It is an asset that he has an understanding of other faiths, not a liability. This is a new age, people. It’s very disappointing that a major network (ABC) doesn’t “get it.”

Given the choice between Obama and George Bush, I’ll take Bush 100% of the time. The Bush Administration NEVER said that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11. They did point out, however, that there were reports that Iraqi officials met with al Qaeda officials. Why is it that neither Jake Tapper or Charlie Gibson ever commented upon the subordinate position that the American flag was wrongly placed in on the stage behind the podium, during the President’s speech in Egypt???. According to US law it should have been in the senior position to the right of the President.
Why did I have to point this out? Why is there no one smart enough in ABC to spot this and make a point of commenting on this? It is bad enough that the POTUS is falling all over himself to seemingly apoligize for everything the USA has ever done to succeed where other nations have failed. If we can’t even hear the truth – how can we be informed? If we are not informed we cannot be trusted to decide fairly when we vote. If we vote despite our lack of information – we risk electing an unfit person. If we repeat this time after time-coruption will rule supreme.
It’s just so simple and yet vital. There are two sides to each story – mimimum. Before one can even get their side out the other side is jumping on them – BOTH SIDES DO THIS. I think Obama believes in only himself. He does not think of himself as POTUS but King of America. He is and egomaniac and a narcissist who is doing things his own way. I hope we learn from this and stop electing people like him who only crave power, if we survive his “presidency”.

Someday Mr. Obama’s real birth certificate on file in Hawaii will be released. Maybe next year, maybe not for 25 years. Since there are apparently no hospital records of his birth, it will probably simply state “born at home”, with the address of his grandmother’s apartment. So the real circumstances of his birth will still not be known. Kenya was under British administration at the time of his birth. I wonder if they have any records?

Joe, The United States of American was founded on Judeo Christian values. The principles of the founding father were based on the values of the Bible and Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that anyone who despises his people will feel the wrath of God Almighty. George W. is a Christain that wore his faith on his sleeves, and tried to rule with the principles establised by God. It would do well for American and for BO to become a Christain in real and not just what he thought would advance his Political Agenda. I cannot belive how many Christians voted for him knowing his personal beliefs were not in alinement with God’s.
However, I know that the downfall of American is already written about in the book of Revelations. THe one world order and one monetary system is all on the way. These events must occur before th AntiChrist arrives to rescue the world in which the world will have 42 months of peace and then the Wrath of God will fall on the world for another 42 months. I personally believe that BO is the front runner for these events to occur.

Why doesn’t Obama fess up that he is a Muslim, since he has spent so much of his presidency in the Arabic countries. He’s pathetically desperate for their approval–if he confesses–he’ll have their approval.
I do not believe he is a natural born US citizen and I don’t believe he is a Christian.
I have ordered a new birth certificate for myself–it is original and has an original seal. Looks exactly like Obama’s, but it’s not my original cert. at birth. My original cert. was quite crude looking and hand written and has an original seal. This is just another one of his many ruses.
I can barely stand to look or listen to him.

If all of the people who take the position that Obama is a “secret Muslim,” then it sounds like it doesn’t matter what evidence you find out to the contrary, then all of you in that camp do not know the definition of discernment. Furthermore, if you really think that George W. was such a righteous Christian, you need to look at his background before becoming POTUS and how decisions were actually made in his time in the White House. Don’t presume to know what God thinks. You can demonize Islam all day long, but keep in mind that much blood was spilt in the name of Christianity. Just as significant, it is erroneous to believe that God only watches over the US. I am disgusted with the intellectual manipulation done with the Bible to support some idea of the US being the best country in the world. In certain measurements, we are better in some areas.

I agree with all those who say that this country has had dealings with the Muslim word since her very beginning. Thomas Jefferson had a copy of the Koran to “understand the enemy”, who were the Barbary pirates that were stealing our merchant vessels and selling their crews into slavery or killing them. In the Qu’ran we learn that Jesus’ (peace be upon him) first miracle was speaking as an infant, defending his mother against false accusations. I say, only as a means of comparison to establish reference, Mary is mentioned only 18 times in the Bible and Jesus did not perform a miracle until he was almost 30 years old where he created wine from water at a party. Please, I encourage you to learn more about Islam.
