Hannity: Obama Continues ‘Apology Tour’ in Cairo

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Conservative talk-show host Sean Hannity today called President Obama’s speech in Cairo part of “an apology tour” that conveys a sense that America has been “arrogant.” “This is an extension of what has become an apology tour, that America is an arrogant country,” Hannity told ABC’s Diane Sawyer on “Good Morning America.” Hannity chided Obama for not citing instances where the U.S. has come to the aid of Muslims. He also questioned the president’s decision to emphasize the American Muslim community, and to repeatedly cite the Koran. “Going into this, this is a president who said we do not consider ourselves a Christian country,” Hannity said. “He repeatedly quoted the Koran in the speech today, but he did miss some of the more controversial quotes in the Koran about infidels, about taking Christians and Jews and friends. That was an interesting omission.” He continued, “There are a lot of questions about what his real motivations are here, but it seemed like a political speech to me.”

Having Sean Hannity comment on national politics is akin to having Oprah comment on the dangers of childhood vaccines.
Is that the best you can do, GMA?

Hannity … ?
Why, Limbaugh was BUSY ???
Are you guys SERIOUS ?

Are you guys for real? Why would you post this? Sean Hannity is nothing but a propagandist who cares about one thing…his ratings. Seriously, ABC News is supposed to be a legitimate news organization.
I cannot understand how you could ever justify this. Really sad.

This morning when I tuned into GMA I was disappointed once again that you were interviewin another bitter pro-Republican supporter, spewing all the anti Obama rhetoric. I thought GMA and ABC were above this, I guess not. My only question is when will you have the rest of the gang on ( Limbaugh, Rove, Cheney and Steel).

When someone makes a mistake, an apology is expected, if no apology takes place, it stirs emotions of anger, some fanatics act on their anger1. Directly and indirectly, more than a million iraqis died from Bush’s lies to the world, I think the least that can be done is to apologize. ALthough I don’t think Obama’s tour is an apology, yet it’s a wonderful gesture that America still stands for democracy and freedom, and has not become another Iran. Thank you Obama, truly!!!!

about not Quoting the war verses in the Koran, Obama also did not quote any of the verses in the Talmud and the testament that encourage killing the women, children and cattle.
People need to start to understand that these religions are thousands years old and if you look meticulously into them, they ALL encourage violence, no exception. it is our responsibility to choose to follow the peacfull teachings, which are consistent with our humanity before anything else

And we care what this jerk says because? Obama needs to apologize for the arrogance and lack of integrity the US showed during the last 8 years. It was a PR disaster both with our allies and with the Muslim world. Obama is trying to open dialog as opposed to creating hostility towards the US. I am extremely proud of our president. He is doing a great job, the republican know it, and their arrogance won’t let them admit it. They will continue on their path of divisivness, hatred, and racism as long as the rest of the republican party sits back and allows them to disgrace the party.

I agree 100% with Sean. This is a Muslim President that does NOT have the best interest of the average American in mind. He has killed off auto dealerships and laid off 100′s of thousands of workers. Then goes over there and tells Israel what it can and can’t do. This guy is a wack job.

Ode to Sean Hannity

Vic Scab–since when is it not OK on ABC and in America to listen to another point of view ? You libs are the ones who spew hate on a daily basis against former Presidents and popular talk show hosts. Obama WAS apologizing for this great country–where else would he have the freedom to do that? certainly not in most muslim countries.

Posted by: sifto77 | June 4, 2009, 8:30 am 8:30 am

I agree 100% with Sean. Obama is a Muslim President. Tells Israel what to do while telling Muslims US shouldn’t tell any country what to do. 100′s of thousand out of work because of his closed car dealership that were TOLD to close. This guy is a wack job and very dangerous to the average Amercian. Time to wake up America.

Posted by: Jim | June 4, 2009, 8:31 am 8:31 am

Hello! Sean! Bush’s administration was arrogant! I’m not sure that Bush ever held out his hand to Muslims like Obama is doing. Bush was detaining people in Gitmo for years and years with no chance of a trial. Both Bush and Cheney were and still are close-minded and self-righteous and arrogant. Bush took us into 2 wars that had no exit plan. Hannity and Limbaugh won’t listen or compromise – they don’t know how to.

I hope this means ABC is becoming more fair and balanced than in the past–you can see by the comments that liberals are not used to being challenged on this network–keep up the good work, ABC–Hannity always has liberals and Dems on his programs.

Posted by: sifto77 | June 4, 2009, 8:35 am 8:35 am

I felt sorry for Dianne Sawyer having to interview Sean Hannity, of all people, about Obama’s important speech. If I want to know what Hannity thinks I would tune in Fox, not GMA. If GMA’s producers want a conservative point of view, why not interview someone like Condi Rice? But Sean Hannity!?! That really demeans GMA.

Posted by: Maria | June 4, 2009, 8:38 am 8:38 am

I have to say I am SHOCKED that ABC has an opposing point of view on. My daughter said you were becoming more balanced and not just bowing down to the hateful liberals that I see posting above. Funny Obama wants dialogue and different points of views to be accepted too bad the liberals and mainstream media and he doesn’t with GOP in this country.

Posted by: Jim | June 4, 2009, 8:39 am 8:39 am

I see the Lib dogs are here savaging Sean and HIS 1st Amendment rights. I want to thank ABC for allowing an opposing point of view on GMA. Amazing Obama is calling for tolerence of others views and the LIBS are on here literally SCREAMING about Sean Hannity. Obviously you will get a bigger audience with more than just the LIBS view. My daughter said you were trying to get all sides on so I started watching. It is refreshing. Thanks

Posted by: Jim | June 4, 2009, 8:42 am 8:42 am

And he should. The last 8 years of American bullying and arrogance did not endear us to anyone around the world except the radical right in this country. The same church going people who believe torture is OK. Our lack of integrity will take years to repair, not just a speach by a President trying to fix years of distrust and animosity towards American the world over. Add to that the lies and the deceit of the Bush administration and you have a PR nightmare that somehow has to be addressed. I applaud President Obama for his effort to bring back dignity to the USA and the American people. I know I am much more proud and hopeful than I have been in a long, long time.

Posted by: chuck | June 4, 2009, 8:46 am 8:46 am

Jim–you and me both–I will come to ABC more often if ABC stays fair and balanced like Fox.If they shift back they will lose those viewers. We do not need a one party dictatorship.

Posted by: sifto77 | June 4, 2009, 8:51 am 8:51 am

Bob–you can’t be saying that Obama is not arrogant!! He oozes arrogance. The proof that he is pandering to muslims–AP has an article that stated he consulted almost daily with the Saudi King about his speech–no wonder he comes across as naive–he does not know his History.

Posted by: sifto77 | June 4, 2009, 8:54 am 8:54 am

Wouldn’t it be refreshing if Chuck and Maria could simply make their point of views known without have to trash peole that disagree with them? The 1st Amendment was fought for, lives were sacrificed. Iraq’s people thank us, Kosovo thanks us (YES THE MUSLIMS IN THOSE COUNTRIES) you look at the liberation BECAUSE of the US in EUROPE and JAPAN – WW I, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, Kuwaitt, Kosovo all gave people FREEDOM it did NOT take it away. Time to wake up and STOP APOLOGIZING for all the good we have done over the years. Women are not raped, children are not in prison in Iraq because of that TERRIBLE Bush/Cheny team.

A simple “THANK YOU ABC” for making the effort to having opposing views on your program. If more networks would do that and then let the people make up their OWN minds rather than being told what to think – I really believe network ratings would INCREASE rather than their current trending down. So thank you. I don’t have to agree with a position when I listen to it but it is a freedom I fought for that it be heard in the United States.

Posted by: Jim | June 4, 2009, 9:05 am 9:05 am

watching–we conservatives like to hear opposing points of view so we can make up our own minds–unlike the unbending left–who do not believe in free speech.I just wish the MSM would show more of BOTH sides instead of “fawning” all the time over a clever speaker.

There was a time when an apologist was one who defended a concept or idea. The Apology to the Augsburg Confession was written as a defense for what was stated in the Augsburg Confession of 1530.
The President is on a tour to build up the integrity of the United States in the world. In essence that is to defend our position in the world. This arrogance gave birth to the phrase “ugly American” several years ago. I think the President is working to remove that negative image and doing it well.

Posted by: richard | June 4, 2009, 9:24 am 9:24 am

george–do you really think that one man–B Obama–is going to change the minds of centuries of muslims because of one prepared pandering speech? I loved GWB and RR but would never elevate them and compare them to Jesus.By the same token, GWB did not have the power to create all that hate–it was there before him–you are crediting mere mortals with superhuman power. “ugly American” was around the globe 30 years ago way before either Bush’s day.I lived in Canada during Carter’s reign and was called “ugly American”, then–in a joking manner, I believe.

Posted by: sifto77 | June 4, 2009, 9:26 am 9:26 am

Origin of the term “THE UGLY AMERICAN”" Not from Bush/Cheney
The Ugly AmericanThe term originated as the title of a 1958 book by authors William Lederer and Eugene Burdick. Ironically, the character referred to as the “ugly American” is one of few Americans who does not exhibit the traits now known by that term. [33] In 1963 the book was made into a movie directed by George Englund and starring Marlon Brando.

Comments of this sort make me wonder what life at home must be for this guy. He must be just as big a bully at home as he is on tv. If he makes a mistake and hurts a family member, does he deny that he did it or pretend that nothing happened under the assumption that everyone will just get over it.
I don’t think international relations are much different than home life in this regard. If you make a mistake, admit it, apologize for it if necessary and then get on with it. That’s all The President is doing. And he certainly didn’t lay all the blame at America’s feet.

I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world; one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect; and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition,” President Obama said. “Instead, they overlap, and share common principles – principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.”
respect…truth…justice…progress…tolerence…dignity…no wonder Hannity is in a tizzy.

I dont mind what Hannity said but he has his own platform to promote. I hate that GMA holds him up as some sort of Middle East expert or Foreign Policy expert. If they wanted a true conservative point of view why not get someone who has actually studied Middle Eastern and/or Muslim policies. Call Condi or some other high ranking conservative official. The Conservative Republicans are becoming a bunch of caricatures full or tv host and radio host that only want to make a dollar. Sorry. I don’t want to see any of these non expert pundits giving policy advice – whether it’s Hannity or Olberman or Rush or Chris Matthews

Hannity is nothing more than an entertainer akin to Limbaugh and Coulter. It is indeed gratifying that most Americans are awakening to the realization that their gibberish is just that–gibberish. They care nothing about the welfare of our country or about you and me (whether liberal or conservative) Its all about ratings and lining their pockets with money.

Hannity is a lightweight FOX shill for the GOP. 8 years of Bush/Cheney got us into the Iraq morass with less security because we have stirred up more enemies and minimized our allies. And Bin Laden and Al Qaeda are still out there.
It is remarkable that folks like Hannity still don’t get it – what they advocated was a total failure and completely repudiated by the American people.

We have been listening to others points of view folks for the last 5 months since Obama took office. The only thing I have heard out of the mouths of the right wing radicals is anger, racist comments, divisivness, and absolutely no constuctive solutions. None. Where are they? Do they have any or is their MO just to bash everything this President does. It is also apparent that the people sticking up for these “other views” are those that hold as much animosity toward this new president as the ones spewing their rhetoric. I am extremely happy that this president is making progress toward repairing the economy, supporting social issues that were ignored for the past 8 years, and is really trying hard to repair the image of America around the world. All we heard for 8 long years was about the war in Iraq, and pretty much nothing else. This was purposeful distraction from the Bush / Cheney administration. What part of the whole scenario don’t you folks get. Osama Bin Laden is a free man. That says all it has to regarding the Bush / Cheney years of failure.

Obama is asking for Freedom of Religion and respecting that. I agree! How about freedom of owning your own dealership that you have invested your money in America? Speaking of freedom and respect I sent this to: Dear Congress and Mr. President:
Because you obviously DON’T KNOW let me edge-a-ma-cate you
Car dealers are required to BUY their product (cars) from the manufacturers. That means they are NO DRAG on the manufacturer and thanks to them the manufacturer can put THAT money in the bank.
So the Democrats in Congress and President want the Dealers that paid the cash, that hired employees, that pay taxes, that add to the tax bases in their communities, that pay mortgages, that give to their charities and churches from their salaries to lose their jobs.
Now why don’t you Hannity/Rush haters explain why that is the right thing to do for the rest of us that ‘just don’t get it”.

What is truly sad about those that support Hannity above is that you don’t even realize that Sean Hannity is so much smarter than the words that come out of his mouth. He is selling a brand, just like Limbaugh, Coulter etc. They play people like you for fools and appeal to your base racist, hateful instincts and laugh all the way to the bank.
As far as first amendment, no one said he shouldn’t have a right to shout his vitriol, but ABC is not obligated to give him the platform. He should be in the park standing on a soapbox with the rest of the crazies.

Fox news has such a slanted outlook on the future they cannot see the forest for the trees. I am not surprised by a news station that puts the emphasis on short skirts, plunging clevage and “bimbo” to miss the point of Obama’s speach in Cairo. It is a given that they would push the negatives. It is a fact that pushing war is a financial gold mine to the wealthy oil magnets and founding fathers. A peaceful world is the last thing they would want to happen to the world. It is a fact that religions all over the world would like to continue the dominance of men over the equality of women. Empowered woman cannot be manipulated or controled. It is a fact that men manipulated the “words of God” to ensure their pulpit reign. When the world hears God’s true message, pulpits will loose power. Fox news can cling to short skirts, plunging clevage and “bimbos”, times are changing for the better with each word spoken for peace.

Posted by: cjvwise1 | June 4, 2009, 10:18 am 10:18 am

I have listened to the speech and was thrilled at the applause the President received. He is showing that respect is earned not bullied. The audience cheers and applause makes me hopeful that the respect this president has already, will just continue to invade the Muslim world so that we can start active dialog again. What part of this is so hard for people to understand? It is common sense that a President from America who speaks of unity and our similarities as opposed to our differences are what we should focus on. The people who are disatisfied with the leaders of their Muslim countries, and their repressive plight, may see that the West is not their enemy, and will stand up to the oppressive regimes and leaders that rule their countries. This is how it starts folks. People don’t want to be oppressed and want to look to a better life such as is possible in the Western culture. What Bush and Cheney did was allowed these radical leaders to justify their hatred of America, and to rally their countrymen to despise the American philosophy at the time.

Why does this blatantly baised Fox News hack get airtime from legitimate media outlets like GMA?
He goes completely unchallenged as he reels off a string of half truths and distortions designed to do nothing else but hurt the President and Democrats and further the Republican cause.
He did everything but say that the President was some sort of “undercover Muslim trying to destroy America from the inside”.
Why does GMA let him get away with saying that America is a “Christian country”? I’m a Christian and know that is a completely unamerican idea that is offensive to millions of Americans of other religions. What every happened to the separation of church and state?
This is not the first time he was allowed to rattle off unchallenged lies and propaganda on GMA. Either make him defend his nonsense or don’t have him on at all.
Nothing wrong with having a conservative point of view. But this man spews lies and venom under the cover of being “fair and balanced”.

They make Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter, Ingram, etc look MODERATE by comparison. Fox has Geraldo, Cobms, Greta, Juan Williams, Shep Smith and a BUNCH of other liberals on their Network and you LIBS go WILD and CRAZY over ONE conservative on a MAINSTREAM NETWWORK. This guy is nothing more that a cheap suit – a strawman, no..boy. He has nothing to contribute to America. He, his colleagues and RM have given the world an image of this country that is so embarrassing. ABC, why provide trash with air time?

I’m astounded that this bigoted, intolerant man is on GMA during this important speech. It’s amazing that the so-called liberal media is always pandering to the Fox News crowd with their lowsy 2 million on average viewers. Sure that’s okay in the cable world but doesn’t come close to any real news program.
It just shows that the corporate media is determined to foment hatred toward our new president when all during the Bush years you were silent, and quaking in your high heels and pancake makeup. Where was all the dissent and “balanced opinions” when GWB was doubling the national debt, lying about WMD and destroying the country? The MSM like GMA and ABC news are such cowards.

ABC news is posting Hannity? What are you thinking? You do know that the Fox demographic centers around 62 years old?

Posted by: Joyce Greenberg | June 4, 2009, 11:05 am 11:05 am

Sifto77 and Jim are just a little out of touch. First FOX is by no means ‘fair and balanced’. Second; it’s sad but past American foreign policies are worth appologizing for, and moving away from. Vietnam did not give anyone freedom, it cost millions of people their lives. And it’s also our first amendment right to talk about other peoples opinions just like Hannity is doing.

Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck, Coulter, etc. need to try to become part of the solution instead of fanning flames of hate and fear. They are nothing more than American Taliban and this is one Republican who finds their actions juvenile and embarrassing!

Posted by: Republican Mom | June 4, 2009, 11:13 am 11:13 am

I just love how the very liberal lefties on here immediately begin name calling anyone who is in disagreement with Obama’s policies. It’s amazing the amount of folks who begin speaking before they’re informed. Never a problem for entertainment value… to be sure.

sifto77 | Jun 4, 2009 8:51:17 AM—the only reason you are posting at ABC News is that you can do so freely, even disrespecting the organization that allows you to freely blog on its site. good luck with that at FOX (fair and balanced). you will be disconnect if you dissent. Hannity, Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Coulter, Savage, et al don’t tolerate differing views. you wrote yesterday that this is a nice place to exchange views and that the truth was in the middle. i agree with you. i just don’t understand trashing ABC. if it’s that bad why does it provide space to debate issues when the American Taliban Networks have zero tolerance for dissent?

Hannity is a conservative not a republican and he puts his beliefs ahead of any corrupt party-democrat or republican. Sean is a man who stands up for average Americans-not illegals or terrorists. I think Sean Hannity is great!

Posted by: rockychance | June 4, 2009, 11:47 am 11:47 am

First of all, why did ABC – Good morning America – invite Sean Hannity for an interview? Are there alterior motives on the part of ABC – ratings perhaps? I’m certainly happy that Sean accepted the invitation.
What I did notice – Diane Sawyer tried to interrupt him when he was on a truth-roll. Why does the mainstream media continue to try to cover for Obama – and hide truth? Why is this media supporting a man who embarrasses the USA? Aren’t they American? Don’t they care? Open your eyes media – you are helping Obama destroy our beautiful-free – giving and generous country.
Hannity is right! Obama is on a quest for more than the eyes and ears can tell. The USA is not a Muslim nation – but we are a Chistian Nation – a nation also who doesn’t look down upon other religions, if you so want to practice. This is what the United States of America is – what our Constitution stands for – why our Constitution was adopted. A free nation – a capitol nation for our businesses for florish – to give people jobs – for the economy to grow.
Obama hates the rich in the USA – although he is one of them. The rich is who gives you your jobs!
Did a poor person ever give you a paycheck?

Sean Hannity, and many of his fellows at Fox News remind me so much of that screaming, hysterical wife running up and down the stairs in the beginning of John Waters film, “Desperate Living.”
These people, with their mouths constantly open to an impossible degree are stuck in one gear – perpetual outrage. Their endless histrionics give me a headache.

Posted by: Matthew Bright | June 4, 2009, 11:59 am 11:59 am

I don’t think the Founding Fathers ever intended for America to be considered infallible. We have done great things for the people of the world, and some not so great things as well. I love America, and as far as I am concerned, this is the greatest country on the face of the Earth. However, we are not perfect. I do not think it is reasonable that prior acts of goodness erase the recent mistakes we have made, any more than prior acts considered ‘intolerable’ by extremists justify their use of terrorism against us. It is a matter of perspective…
So, before anyone can question my motives, I will again say that I love the United States. However, I am also able to see the perspectives of others and understand how they could feel. So, allow me to ask, why are conservatives so hung up on the notion that America has nothing to apologize for?

GM has been declining for at least a decade or more – REPEATED BAD management/executive decisions time and time again (killing the EV1 and buying/making the Hummer line, building SUVs/trucks over fuel efficient cars) AND signing contracts giving lifetime health insurance to their employees and high hourly salaries to their factory workers whether they worked or NOT is what killed them.

I love most of the stories you do on GMA… However I grow soooo weary of GMA and just about every other news program puffing up Obama as if he were the first president EVER. Who really cares about his basketball parties and how many days he’s been in office! Now you have FINALLY gotten an opinion that’s worth it’s salt! Hannity is absolutely right. Obama is acting more like a radical muslim than a United States President! That’s not racist… there are radical whites, hispanics, etc. But we expect more from a president.

Posted by: Debi | June 4, 2009, 12:49 pm 12:49 pm

I know it has been almost a decade since we have seen a leader who used diplomacy, but that is what Obama was doing today. Yes, he quoted the Koran. But he did so in order to form a connection with the people who he was speaking to. That is how you do diplomacy. You don’t do it by quoting something from your own culture. That would not do anything, but push the other side away. What Hannity failed to mention is that Obama’s speach included a well formed point that included a quote from Christianity, Islam, and Judaism about peace and how peace is the way to live life.
Violence is what the extremist are using to recuit thier followers. This is what has kept the terrorists alive and well. The terrorists are speaking out more now to try to undermine Obama because they know that by not sabre rattling like Bush, they have lost a recruiting point.

Posted by: Mack | June 4, 2009, 1:00 pm 1:00 pm

It is refreshing that GMA boldly allowed another viewpoint to be heard, very rarely heard on mainstream media. Why would you not want to hear a different take on things. Since the liberal media dominates the TV airwaves, most Americans hear only one point of view and don’t even realize a lot of what they hear is completely false. Sure our country has made some mistakes, but we are still the greatest country in the world and Obama need not continue on this apology tour. He needs to emphasize all the great things we have done for the whole world.

Posted by: ccat09 | June 4, 2009, 1:04 pm 1:04 pm

I am incredibly disappointed that you stooped to giving a gutless stooge like Sean Hannity air time. Had the the backbone to have ever worn his country’s uniform, he might hold efforts at peace making by Obama in higher regard. He mentioned that Obama quoted the Koran, but failed to comment on Obama’s quotes from the Bible and the Talmud. Hannity does nothing other than verbalize a supposed insight into the world of politics that is based on distortions and outright lies, but then what can you expect from one tutored by Limbaugh. He should really go back to bartending where most of his litany of lies and ludicrous comments will fall harmlessly on the ears of those who will most likely not remember them the next morning.

Hannity made some really good points that the Muslim world has not thanked the U.S. for it’s help several times. If anyone is ARROGANT, it’s Obama. The left always cried foul that Bush had overstepped his power as president, yet allow this president to take over the banks and auto companies! Bush WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO LET MUSLIMS KNOW that they were not U.S.’s enemy after 9/11. Geesh! Where have the press been? What the left can’t stand is that the U.S. is a heck of a lot more safer than they were before 9/11. Bush never lied, but Obama sure makes lying look so slick!

Absolutely, I can go with Hannity. If the Muslim countries which attacked us on 9/11 would apologize for killing of American innocents citizens of 2,850, the President of USA can seriously consider doing for it. However nobody in the Muslim world never think about it even.
Is the President of USA worthwhile to spend a lot of efforts, time, money (US$840,000,000.00)and amend the laws which US President Barack Hussein Obama has has asked Congress to allow continued aid to Palestinians, even if officials linked to the militant group Hamas become part of the government….., The Los Angeles Times reported Monday(Apr. 13, 2009). The move has nevertheless alarmed congressional supporters of Israel.

Thanks ABC for allowing Mr. Hannity’s opposing views. Unfortunately I do not agree with him not because I am a liberal or even a conservative. Mr. Obama is presenting an alternative point of view, fresh start, a new approach. Gosh, the support Isreal above anything else approach has not been successful for the last 50 years folks! Thousands have died and nothing has been accomplished! If anything, we are going backward. The current Isreali leadership has now backed off support of the 2-state solution policy. Let the President try it his way.

Posted by: goldenboy | June 4, 2009, 1:45 pm 1:45 pm

Maybe we should care what Hannity says because it strikes a chord of increased divisiveness for this country, something we all will have to deal with at some point. Yes, the US has been arrogant (WMD in Iraq – a lie, Gulf of Tonkin in Vietnam – a lie) and we should be accountable, just like what we say to the other countries of the world when they lie and cheat. None of this “do as I say and not as I do” as this will only do more harm to the US. Obama is not a muslim, and to the religious fanatics of this country, the US is a secular republic – we are NOT a christian nation, we are not a jewish nation, we are not a muslim nation. Trying to justify wars in the name of religion is the bloodiest and most costly war of all. We have done lots of good for the world, there is no doubt. But we are responsible for our own actions and we must take responsibility, if this means saying ‘I’m sorry for my error’ then so be it. The US is not perfect and never will be, but to deny our responsibility is wrong. You want your kids to frow up and be responsibile people, so why shouldn’t the country take the same attitude. Last emphasis, we are a secular country, not a religious. You want a religious country, go to Iran or Israel or wherever the h*e*l*l you go to.

Having Hannity on ABC critiquing the speech is like MSNBC having Liz Cheney on this morning. What could those 2 possibly contribute to the foreign affairs or the national security of this country! They are just plain silly, which reduces ABC and MSNBC to nincompoops! I mean, REALLY!

Posted by: hang | June 4, 2009, 1:50 pm 1:50 pm

I have to agree with Hannity on one point — it is odd that Obama talks about America’s distrust of Muslims, when in fact, it’s not Muslims in general that most Americans distrust — it’s the jihadists and extremists that we distrust.
The US has a rich history of coming to the aide of Muslims around the world in time of need — following earthquakes in Iran, the Indian ocean tsunami, fighting AIDS in Africa, liberating Kuwait from Saddam Hussein, etc.– all before Obama took office. So it is odd that Obama would paint us a nation that distrusts or somehow doesn’t like Muslims.
Not mention that Saudi Arabia has long been a US ally along with Jordan, Kuwait, and several other Muslim nations.
I think Obama’s speech would have been stronger if he had touched on those times when we Americans have offered a loving hand of friendship to Muslim nations — it’s odd that he didn’t.

Posted by: C'est moi | June 4, 2009, 1:54 pm 1:54 pm

I don’t understand these people who only want to hear one point of view – that which only praises Obama – without considering that maybe, just maybe, an opposing point of view might have some valid points too.
It’s a shallow mind that wants to hear only the views of those they agree with.
By the way, Israel wasn’t too happy with Obama’s speech either.

Jim / sifto77 – you want a comment without being trashed – hows this? Tell me what’s wrong with our President extending a hand in a peaceful manner to the Middle East to talk about moving forward, never to forget where we came from, but always knowing what’s possible if we simply come to the table with an open mind? Is peace wrong? Is trying to understand another culture wrong? Is America the only country that exists in this world? Let me ask you, was it right for Reagan to talk peacefully with Russia? See, every time I read negative comments about Obama’s efforts, they’re clouded with “I’m a Right Wing Conservative, and my side of the table is always right, anyone not on my side is wrong” remarks. You should try being an Independant in this country. You’d learn a lot about both sides and what they really care about. I’ll give you that Obama is a registered and sitting Dem in the White House. But frankly, how anyone would want to associate themselves with the kind of hatred you and all hard core Right Wingers spew is beyond me. The only difference between you and a Terrorist is the weapon. You’re both extremists, unwilling to sit and listen. You and people like you ARE the problem. Hey, god bless ya. You’re in America and have the right to your opinion as well as the right to state it. Seems to me, if you really want things to work in this country, you’d stop for a minute and listen to the content and forget who the messenger is. After all, a good idea is a good idea regardless of its origin right?

It gives me hope that ABC/GMA realizes that their viewers deserve journalistic integrity to receive fair and balanced coverage of important issues. We all know that the mainstream media has created the slant towards Obama. Americans deserve to hear both sides and make up their own minds. Many Americans are tired of the media bias and thus the reason for the landslide ratings of FOX vs CNN, MSNBC, etc.

13, 2009). The move has nevertheless alarmed congressional supporters of Israel

I see a lot of comments here about opposing points of view. Open your eyes folks, you really think the American media is going to have opposing points of view? Don’t be so ignorant! ABC is biased, FOX is biased, CNN is biased, they’re all biased! FOX does not present fair and balanced pojnt of view, neither do ABC, CNN or any other news in this country. Nice thing about the internet, you can read English news from all over the world. Open your eyes and see what the world has to say – don’t be so arrogant and pay attention to only American news.

First of all Shawn Hannity is a Bill O’reiIly wanna be. What is really insane here is GMA asking Shawn Hannity to comment on this speech. Why not someone who actually has an IQ and has experience in the Middle East is beyond me. I am very disappointed in the direction ABC is going. Did Robert Murdock buy ABC?

I was extremely shocked and pleasantly surprised to see Sean Hannity on GMA. It gives me hope that GMA realizes that viewers deserve journalistic integrity with fair and balanced media coverage of important issues. We all know that the mainstream media bias is slanted towards Obama and I think that Americans are tired of it. Thus the landslide ratings of FOX vs CNN, MSNBC,etc. Good Job GMA!

Posted by: Republican Mom
Folks, we are now at a point in our society where some really believe that it is “juvenile and embarrassing” for people to voice their opinions! These people want to snuff out those who might oppose the status quo — they’ll spread lies like “they’re fanning the flames of hate and racism” and try and have you believe that opposing solutions aren’t part of the dialogue. Be careful folks. This is how censorship starts. We start by trying to discredit the opposition. Once they’re discredited, silencing them is easy, and when the opposition is silent, we’re in real trouble.

Hannity is right on. Obama is a Muslim, has always been and we ARE NOT – WE ARE A CHRISTIAN NATION – By being willing to kill unborn babies,(and one could go on and on) He (Obama) has no idea what it means to be a Christian – Thank God in 3 more years we can get him out of there. He is arrogant – Fox News just reports the news – they do not make it like ABC, NBC and all the rest.

I’m not a fan of Hannity, who seems like a wingnut most of the time, but he is right about this. Most of the leaders of these societies require an enemy to maintain their corrupt power and a friendly USA would be the last thing they want to see. It’s bad enough for them that America has pushed democracy into the heart of the Middle East in Iraq. These societies are generally stuck in a hopeless time warp and their leaders need it to stay that way. America has nothing to apologize for, frankly, and should continue aggressively pushing for civil rights and democratization through the long haul, for the betterment of those societies and global peace in general.

The 80-some years that the democrats have had control of our government – the White House and/or Congress – even with republican presidents, the democrats still influenced foreign policy as well as national policy. Then look at Clinton and Carter and we’re still letting the democrats apologize and appease and where has it gotten us? I totally agree with Sean and I’d really like to see what republicans would do if they had a true majority with the Congress and the White House without democrat interference. It’s got to be better than what we’ve had from the democrats since FDR. Now that is change we can believe in. Yes we can!!

Posted by: Al | June 4, 2009, 3:27 pm 3:27 pm

I don’t understand why anyone would have the likes of Hannity on their show. Are you wanting a drop in ratings?
I have come to understand that no matter what our President says or does there is going to be bigots . Next to Limbaugh, Hannity is a bigot of all bigots. President Obama got very high ratings on his speech in Cairo. Why people think that Americans are so righteous in everything is beyond me. People from all walks of life have their own beliefs as many of us in the United States have many beliefs. What we need to do is as the President said, Everyone should treat others as they want to be treated. That always speak the truth even though it may be uncomfortable. And to make a point to listen and try to understand each others country, and learn by it. The young adults are the ones who is actually changing our way of thinking. Our world will someday hold NO hatred as it has for so many yrs.
One more thing, read the history of Isreal and Palistine.

One of the most important speeches to be given in American history and Good Morning America (while the President was still speaking) had Mr. Hannity denegrating the very words and intention of a President on an international stage talking about some of the most delicate issues of the day. I am appalled – beyond the pale of journalistic and American citizenship responsibility. Had this been done during the “Tear Down This Wall” speech I would have felt the same. Mr. Hannity and others try as they may to rewrite history as just and honest so they can be just and honest now and in the future speaks volumes. I lost a lot of respect for Ms. Sawyer this morning – she and I were both on the front lines on 9-11 and I believe a fair statement is the ignorance that fueled that pain and agony is something our President wants to address and bring world attention to. Mr. Hannity remarks were untimely, unwaranted and untrue. In this grand Democracy it is his right – but in this grand Democracy it is also my right to say I am ashamed our education system turned our such a loser.

To all you whack jobs who keep blaming Obama for GM’s bankruptcy… get a friggin clue. Do you think that GM makes and assembles everything to their cars? No! The plants that make the glass, electronics, catalytic converters, etc have been going under for the past 5 years! My father, a UAW president of 25+ years was forced into retirement three years ago. Guess what? Obama was not in office at that time. Bush was. He actively supported tax breaks that rewarded companies more for shipping jobs overseas than for creating them here in the United States, and he strongly opposed efforts to reform these tax rules. These tax breaks
cost the U.S. Treasury $7 billion each year and made it significantly cheaper for American companies to operate overseas than in this country.
The tax code subsidizes job destruction and puts domestic producers and workers at a profound disadvantage. The Bush administration refused to support efforts to eliminate these tax giveaways, and, in its 2004 and 2005 budgets, proposed creating even more tax incentives for U.S. companies to ship work overseas rather than keep good jobs
in America.

I find it very interesting that the majority of the people trashing Hannity are attacking Hannity and have absolutely no ability to discuss the issue that he is trying to bring to the table. Hannity is spot on when he wonders why it’s so important to illuminate the great things that Islam has brought to humanity…100′s of years ago, but ignores what the United States has done for Islam in the past few decades. I said I find it interesting, not surprising, though. Heaven help us if a member of the “State run media” (yes I quoted Rush) steps out of line and brings on a balancing viewpoint to discuss what the other 49% of the population things is important. How’s your liberal tolerance and inclusion working out for you now?

Posted by: Troy | June 4, 2009, 5:13 pm 5:13 pm

And to Jim, what makes you the “decider” of what is torture and what is not torture? You can’t honestly believe that Muslim countries are looking down at us because we practice waterboarding when Clinton, Bush and 0bama are all practicing rendition to those same countries for even harsher interrogation techniques? They aren’t looking down at us for waterboarding, they’re laughing at us because this country has grown so weak and politically correct that we even have to have the debate about whether waterboarding is torture. Seriously, waterboarding is part of the curriculum in most of the Special Forces training in our own military. Why do they do it? Because if they get captured they can expect AT LEAST that to happen to them at the hands of their (likely) Muslim captors. Liberal’s ability to pretend you’re angry over something when you use the issue as nothing more than a political tool is laughable.

Ms. Sawyer..you said you were going to interview a conservative, then put on this raving loon, giving mouth to a laundry list of distortions, out-of-context “quotes” and outright lies about what Obama has said! All he wants to do is gin up the imbalanced fringe on the not-so-right, who are too lazy to take the time to bone up on day-to- day facts, let alone the real history of this country! Much easier to put a funnel in their ears and pour in a daily dose of some self-serving icon of intellectual flatulence! He only wants to seed more hate and watch it grow, in the well-fertilized if empty minds of some, like a few posting here! “Closed dealerships”..what ignorant fools.
You could have challenged everything he said, but you only sat there and giggled like some obtuse teenager! How pathetic..too bad you couldn’t have interviewed one of the more grown-up representatives of the GOP..few and far between as they may be! This clown can say anything he wants, but why should anyone take GMA more seriously than the National Inquirer, when you give air time to someone who has so appropriately earned the nickname Ins-Hannity? Maybe you’ve just deteriorated that badly though, as you then found plenty of time to spend on that idiot family from some imbecilic reality show! Disgusting! Be ashamed!

Ins-Hannity is free to babble on about whatever he wants, but it’s too bad that, when you’re looking for a serious counterpart to something..another POV, you get the incoherent ravings of someone who’d be out of business if he couldn’t instigate hate! Obama didn’t say we were “a Muslim country”. All you have to do is listen to the actual speech or read..not just the excerpts fed out by the like of this fraud. Not a Christian country..well, we’re not, but that’s not what he said either! We are not a theocracy of any kind and if you need to live in one so badly, then go round up some folks and sail off to some island where you can start one up!God save us from fools who are so easily led around by their noses!

Why did Diane continue on and on interviewing Hannity? Indeed, why was he interviewed at all? When did he become an expert on the Middle East, Islam, the President’s speaking style, etc. This was a waste of news time. Next time find someone who knows something about the topic(s) rather than a crank seeking to promote himself as much as any of the undocumented positions he’s taken.

I got this way what Obama told to his Cairo audience was he is only good man at White House so far and the rest of American peoples, politicians and former Presidents are arrogant and they have made mistake on dealing with Muslim in the past. So I come to here for apologize for those mistake in past. He may be honest and moral guy but I do not think he wise enough to being as US President. Some of Muslim may be seen him as bridge between Muslim world and US but most of Muslim will not accept him unless he change US support for Israel and other war on terror issue. We need to wait and see another 3 years for result of Obama’s presidency. Don’t forget if you give free one and then other side will ask you one more please.

President Obama is doing a great job of representing America as we are and not as Bush did for the last eight years. Obama is a good man and has worked hard from day one to right the wrongs of the Bush administration. Everything he has done has been to improve the lives of all of us. Bush was a conceited nitwit who did everything to betray America and put us in harms way. Thank goodness we have an intelligent president now who has the best interests of all Americans.

All they do is complain, and they don’t propose any solutions…. esecially with the economy that Bush left this country with, seems like “complaining with no solutions” is the Republican “solution” nowadays. How sad.

I’m a conservative Christian struggling to understand why the president doesn’t get support for being a peacemaker. Jesus Himself said ‘blessed are the peacemakers’ and if the president gets blessed so do the rest of us.
On the other hand, if we want to find fault, in another passage Jesus says ‘First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brother’s eye’. Sounds like it’s time for some Bible-believing commentators to talk a little less and read a little more.
