Judge Sotomayor: ‘I Feel Fine’ After Fall

ABC News’ Dennis Powell and Z. Byron Wolf report:  Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor arrived on Capitol Hill this afternoon with a new accessory:  A pair of crutches.

Sotomayor, who fractured her ankle during a fall at New York’s LaGuardia Airport this morning, is scheduled to meet with six U.S. Senators this afternoon as part of her confirmation process

She was spotted with a calf-high cast on her right leg — and a black high-heeled shoe on her left foot — as she hobbled to her first appointment in a Senate office building.

“I feel fine,” she told reporters before a meeting with Iowa Republican Charles Grassley.

After her fall, Sotomayor decided to continue on her flight to Washington, but when she arrived at the Old Executive Office near the White House, it was determined that she needed to see a doctor.

She was driven to a medical clinic at George Washington University, and was taken into the building in a wheelchair.

“After an x-ray at Medical Faculty Associates, it was determined that Judge Sotomayor has a small fracture in her right ankle,” White House spokesman Ben LaBolt said in a statement.

“She has been treated and released, and is looking forward to keeping her full schedule of meetings on Capitol Hill this afternoon.”

In addition to Sen. Grassley, Sotomayor is also slated to meet with Sens. Max Baucus, Kay Hagan, Mary Landrieu, Jeanne Shaheen and David Vitter.

She started making the rounds on Capitol Hill last week, when she met with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which will hold her confirmation hearings, members of both parties’ leadership teams and the delegation from her home state of New York.

If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Sotomayor will be the first Hispanic and third woman to serve on the nation’s highest court.

man, she is going all out for this nomination.. she may not ahve the credentials, knowledge of the law and Constitution, intellectual ability nor objectivity, but she sure has a happy affirmative action story of someone who got by without the needed background, AND now she has a booboo on her foot.. THAT should garnish some sympathy for her eh? see her go into her confirmation hearing with some crutches. what you think?

actually brown nose, she appears to be walking better than a white male who hadn’t experienced the experiences she has.

palinrox | Jun 8, 2009 3:37:43 PM—she will be of crutches by them. i guess Rush must have said she wasn’t qualified and so you repeat it. why don’t you do some of your own research. it’s not hard to do. she has been a federal judge and a federal appeals judge for over a decade, a distinguished legal scholar, a law professor. but you want the white guy with no experience, ROFLMFAO!

And not only is she walking with a cast on her leg, but the other foot is encased in high heels. I´d like to see any male do that. As they said about
Ginger Rogers: she did everything Fred did, but in high heels and backwards!

A minority and a disability: she’s a shoe-in now.

I hope Tina Fay does a hilarious skit about her falling like Chevy Chase used to do about Pres. Ford on SNL.

If a man fell and broke his ankle, he’d be crying of pain, asking for prosac, cancelled the rest of his appointments for the day and been rushed to the hospital. She just gets up, says “whatever” and gets on her flight.

People keep bringing up experience, experience, experience and how much Judge Sotomayor has. Some of these same folks – I will bet – several months ago, claimed experience did not matter. But, then, the choice was for president. Oh, well!

Good lord, somebody go out and buy this woman a pair of flats! High heels and crutches don’t go together. Ask me how I know! :)

I think this liberal need to learn how to walk before learning how to think, have a nice fall, see you next trip.

I think Palinroxs and these others are crazy. What do you want on the Supreme Court –Rush Limbaugh? Wasn’t lazy George Bush enough of a disaster to set us back 20 years.
Go to Alaska and join Sarah looking at Russia from her back yard.

First she trips over her words, now she trips over everything. This is just a slight of hand to get sympathy and to direct attention away from the real issues such as her fitness to sit on any court.
Has she explained why she thinks she’s a better judge than a white man or why she thinks it’s okay to “set policy” from the bench? I’m more interested in that than how she fell or how bad she really needs those crutches.

Paul Wall –”she will be of crutches by them. i guess Rush must have said she wasn’t qualified and so you repeat it. why don’t you do some of your own research. it’s not hard to do. she has been a federal judge and a federal appeals judge for over a decade, a distinguished legal scholar, a law professor. but you want the white guy with no experience, ROFLMFAO!”"– I did do some research.. apparently you did not.. so, I’ll let you in on what I found. She has had 60% of her lower court opinions elevated for appeal (thats about double the normal rate) She has had 4 of her decisons overturned by the supreme court in the last ten years.. Not too good for someone who is now nominated to be ON the supreme court. She has been chastized by higher court judges for “poor writing skills” in her decisons on numerous occasions. She openly discussed the role of judges while lecturing a college audience and eluded to a judge’s ability to “set policy”. her comments regarding teh ability of a Latina woman over a White male are seen by many as racist and preudicial.. two traits that one certainly would not want in a supreme court nominee..
Face it.. if this were a republican nomination, they would never even make it to the confirmation hearings.. but we are all supposed to simply sit back and revell in her “amazing life story” and pretend that her lack of experience and poor track record does not matter..
